Hi, my name is Don. I'm 46, and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I'm married to a wonderful woman who I met online in a chat room about 20 years ago. Yup, you heard right -- not an online dating site, not eHarmony or Match.com or anything like that, just a "boy band" chat room of all things. We were the chaperones so to speak, keeping an eye on the younger more impressionable kids. That's our story, and we're sticking to it. I lived in Northeast Georgia, where I had grown up, and she lived here in Cincinnati, where she grew up. I moved up here and we were married in December of 2001. I inherited four kids from her first marriage, three girls, and one boy. They are…

I am 3 1/2 months post op, Gastric Bypass Heaviest: 575 pounds Day of surgery 489 Current: 444 pounds My surgeon asked me to try and lose 50 pounds before surgery. I beat that by a good amount. Weight loss seems slower since surgery. I developed blood clots after surgery and went back to the hospital. Now on coumadin and that limits my salad eating as I have to watch my intake of vitamin K. I am having some trouble staying under the 900 calories per day as required by my nutritionist. Working on finding new foods. Would welcome any suggestions on foods that are high in proteins, low in carbs, and low in calories. Sent from my SM-G950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

1/29/13 - Update/Edit: As several have inquired about the timeline and were confused when i said her surgery was in May but she's been on a feeding tube for two years. The surgery was May of 2010. I was specifying the month only as a point of reference for the point at which the issue became critical (July 2010) and how long she was in the hospital that first time (into October 2010). She was also hospitalized for a few months in January 2011 when the stomache leak/infection spread through the diaphragm and into her lungs, and again the following spring and summer of 2011 for the same issues. Sorry for the confusion. Also - I agree that the bulk of the issues ce…

The medical records that my parents saved show that I was only 4 years old the first time I went through a medical diet. Since then I tried all the diets you can imagine. I have been followed by nutritionists, doctors, therapists. I followed the south beach diet, Duncan diet, intermittent starving, the whole 30, I can't even remember them. But when I was going back eating as my all other friends were... I gained weight. Again and again. I have been up and down from 170 to 280 pounds so many times in my life. And that's very dangerous. But I never felt "full" or "satisfied" in my entire life. I'll go through a gastric bypass on September the 5th. I am on my pre-op diet. It…

My name Is Sarah, I'm 36, and I officially hit my one week post RNY today. I've been obese almost my entire life, and with compounding health problems, I was ready for this. Actually, I was ready for the surgery last summer, but between my work switching insurance companies and the insurance company deciding they wanted me to jump through more hoops, I got another year to prepare. I only had to stay in the hospital overnight; they let me go earlier than expected because I was getting down fluids and pain was at a manageable level. I just started on pureed foods today after one week of clear liquids only. After having had several family members have the surgery…

  12. HIII everyone my name's Adriana I'm 26yo and I'm finally ready to share my journey. I started the process feb 2017 and I will have my surgery August 14th ( yikes, 8 days away). I chose to have the rny gastric bypass. I've been overweight FOREVER, I've never been skinny or under 200 which was my lowest weight at around 16-18 yo and that's because I started suffering from hyperthyroidism, as soon as that went under control my weight kept going up to about 240 last year it went up to 265 and felt horrible, so uncomfortable, out of breath and just unhealthy. I've changed my eating habits and started eating healthier. I've started swimming and aqua Zumba classes and I love it.…

  16. It's been an interesting week, full of new things learned, ups and downs, and lots of introspection. The following made my life so much easier this week, and I'm so grateful for them: 1. This site. I did a lot of research on this site prior to surgery date, so my home was prepared for post-op. The grocery lists on this site were so helpful. Having a community of folks who supported me was amazing. I received messages from people that I just met, who wished me well. It is such a good feeling to have this kind of support! And I really appreciate the authenticity of folks who share. There hasn't been an emotion I've felt that someone else hasn't described, an issue with…

  19. Hello Everyone- Recently I've been reading through many posts and have been inspired to share my story. I started the VSG process about three years ago, however, got cold feet. I thought to myself, there's no way I can go through this, and that I could lose the weight myself. I was wrong! As a full time mom, with a full time career (and two hour commute each day), there was very little time for me to focus on myself. Three years and three co-morbidities later, I realized VSG was my best option to effectively lose the weight and keep it off! I started my journey in September of 2016 with a 6 month required nutrition based diet program by my insurance. I must say, I di…

Hello my fellow sleevers and future sleevers! I had my VSG on 06/01/2017 and today is 08/08/2017. I must say this was one of the greatest decisions that I have ever made. Besides adjusting to the pre-op diet for 17 days prior to surgery, and fighting that "gas monster" for 1 week post-op I must say that this has been an easy transition that I should have done years ago, but at least I am in my early forties so I have alot of time to enjoy life and my new me. Thus far I have lost 30+ pounds in total and that puts me only @ 26lbs until I meet my goal weight (which I may change depending on how I look and feel at 185)! 22. I wish I had done this years ago. It was a perfect fit for me. I have never been a snacker only a binge eater, my brother had gastric sleeve two weeks before I did and he lost about 30 lbs right away but has struggled ever since because he is a snacker eating often and also drinking calories. If you are a snacker and can't deal with that than gastric sleeve is not for you. I am happy with not having a great deal of loose skin, but I do have some in my lower belly and groin area. Gonna have that skin removed. Skin over my back and arms and legs is just a little loose but not sagging like my lower belly, but I think I am one of the lucky ones with that.,

I have always been heavy. Even when I was a child. Every picture I have ever seen I was fat. I think it really struck me when my primary (in Missouri) marked my chart as "morbidly obese" in 2008 or 2009. I never realized just how heavy I was until then. At my largest I was 254 pounds. In 2010 I managed to drop 35 to 40 pounds but then fell off the wagon and put most of it back on. I have since fluctuated from 249 to 236 and every where in-between. I decided to pursue WLS. My primary at that time (in Georgia) referred me to a specialist that could do the lap band. I researched and went to my appointments and the classes they required. When we started doing my me…

To be able to have it, one would have to go to a obesity rehab clinic that had a 1 year waiting list, after that time it would be a minimum of 1.5 year treatment until I could have the surgery. And no guerantees, they have all the control and can drag it out for as long as they like or refuse all together. Anyway after 1 year of waiting to get in, I finally got the letter. I was so happy holding the letter, finally it was here. Then I opened to see when I could come in for a pre-interview and me heart…

I did Atkins when it was just getting popular and dropped about 50+lbs, but then gained 25-35 back. I was really debating getting lapband about 5+ years ago, but decided to give myself 6 months in the gym 4+ times a week and re-evaluate. Well, I did good and really got in the gym and at my lowest I hit 189 with 11.9% bodyfat.
