Hey everyone! My name is Amy and I'm 13 days post op, had RNY gastric bypass surgery 4/26/17. (with added bonus- hiatal hernia repair) I'm a single mother of four children currently living in Virginia, originally from So Cal. I am 1 year vegan for the animals and am having an interesting time figuring out pre op and post op nutrition options for myself. Just looking to make friends (I swear I'm not judgy lol) I don't know anyone else personally who has had any procedure like mine.

I'm 41 had my sleeve 6/22/17. My starting weight was 319 one week later I'm down to 290. I had severe nausea and couldn't stand the smell of food. After about day 4 I realized the nausea had a lot to do with I wasn't getting enough calories. Now that I'm getting more protein I don't feel as sick. The main problem I'm having now is heartburn and gas. And I'm not walking like I should. Trying to adjust to this new diet and feeling weak. My fear is the upcoming holiday 4th of july. We always have a huge family bbq at my house and I just don't know how I'll cope. Anyone have any tips on how to be part of the party when you can't eat or drink the same as your guest? Sent from …

So I am new to the site, and soon to be new to the loser's bench! I started my journey this time last year and had my first appointment with my surgeon on 08/12/2016! It has been a long and bumpy road to get here. First, the guy that did my psych evaluation. He was nice and actually in the 5 sessions it took to complete a thorough examination, I think I learned more about him than he learned about me. He had me read over the right about and there was a lot of information was incorrect and had to be corrected. I finally got through those in September 2016. I for my insurance approval in November and was scheduled for 02/27/17! I also did my sleep study ?. T…

  15. I went in to surgery on June 19,2017 thinking I was getting bypass surgery. My dr was unable to preform the bypass because my intestines were to brittle for her to do the bypass so my dr went ahead and did the sleeved. I had signed papers before hand stating that if she couldn't do the RNY that she could go ahead and do the sleeve. I'm completely happy with my sleeve and down 14 pounds in a week.

Hello! I'm a 39 y/o professional (I work part time), mom of boys ages 15 and 11, and army wife of 18 years. I was sleeved Friday and today is Tuesday, my first day on full liquids which is nice after just drinking broth and water. I'm grateful to say I've had no pain post surgery. This is my second bariatric surgery. I was banded in 2009 at 305 lbs. I got down to only 260 and stayed there until last fall when I finally went to the doctor that I had been avoiding due to my shame because I had been aspirating saliva almost nightly for a year and the acid reflux had gotten bad. They took out fluid and then I gained 10 + lbs quickly. I had the band removed in April and just…

So, today it feels real. I had my nutritionist meeting yesterday and, after a few weeks of everything feeling rather abstract I now feel like the ride has started. My surgery is on the 12th of July and I start my strict pre-op diet on the 28th of June, those are nice small tangible steps. I've started to make some changes already and happily I've lost 4kg in the last couple of weeks, with a little luck and a pre-op diet I should be below 50BMI before the op. Whilst that will save me some money the real plus will be the sense of direction and achievement it's given me. I feel like I'm in a good place, not quite zen like but still relaxed and positive. I've had a coupl…

Hi, I just passed my one year surgiversary and I wanted to offer up my thoughts on what this passed year has brought. My day of surgery weight was 285. My current weight is 138.5. I have read a lot of the forums and was surprised to see how many folks had regrets. I can honestly say I have none even though I had to have another surgery to fix an internal hernia and remove lesions. I feel blessed that I was given this tool, yes, it is only a tool. It is not a magical procedure that miraculously makes you thin and fixes all the problems in your life. Your struggle with obesity still continues long after surgery. The hard work really begins once you resume eating ever…

I had a sudden change in life when I decided, in one day, to go to Dr. Thomas and begin my journey for a Gastric Sleeve. I was excited and nervous and had no idea what I was getting into at the time. We discussed my options and decided on the Gastric Bypass to achieve my goals. I spoke to my wife and we watched hours of videos on surgeries and blogs, WebMD, etc. to learn about these procedures. None of the side effects were worse than not being able to play with my boys (10 and 12), mow the yard, be intimate with my wife, and just feel "normal" when going out. On Feb 7th, 2017, I had my gastric sleeve. I was at 412 lbs., and was scared I would never wake up. I did…

It is coming off very slowly, dropped 5lbs within the last 3 weeks. Trying to eat veggies fruit and protein and upping my water intake. I have a caffeine problem, i like coffee too much. Started using organic 2% milk. Any suggestions or tips welcome. My downfall for regain was sweets and bread!!! I have eliminated bread again and pretty much down to no sweets again.

  36. 33 since surgery, the rest was before that. This pic was before I started keto and my pre-op. I've been a little bit stalled, but I'm not sweating it too hard. I'm taking my surfboard out this weekend which is a big time calorie burner for me. So I don't think I'll be stalled for long. ETA: I was never able to fit in those pub chairs before (on the right). Whenever we would go to that court bar, I had to stand the whole time and just act like I didn't feel like sitting to save myself from being embarrassed. It feels really good to not have hips the size of a Chevy tailgate anymore.

I haven't been posting here lately, been a rough couple of weeks (unrelated to WLS). Lost my job unexpectedly which sucked, but I started my own business and my wife was able to find work so things are looking up. And most importantly, as of this morning, for the first time in probably 25 years or more, there was a number 1 in the first spot on the scale! Down exactly 115 lbs in just about 6 months, amazing. Had my doctor's visit today and they said that the goal is to lose 70% of excess weight in 1 year, I'm at 80% down in 6 months, so they're very happy (and so am I!) Just felt like sharing!

Hi everyone, just joined today and figured I would share a bit of my journey. I have always been overweight even as a kid I was always the typical "fat kid" and that never went away through my teens and most of my twenties. For the most part I was reasonably healthy given how heavy I was and my weight yo-yoed through the years as I tried several different diets, Atkins, calorie counting, Atkins again, low fat, low cal. You name it I probably tried it without any lasting success. Right around 3 years ago my weight really started catching up with me. This is my story and Journey after having my bypass years ago-9 to be specific. It all started out with a huge hiatal hernia to be repaired. My surgeon recommend me to seek lap band surgery, as being overweight might not hold the hernia repair , and he told me it would be a real diservice to me if he did not advice me to do so. So, off I went to a weight loss seminar, and spoke with Dr. Gregory Schroder as to wether or not I would be a candidate. He felt not, as having the Nisson Fundoplasty could potenuate problems down the road. I so appreciated his honesty, and he mentioned a surgeon who performs gastric bypasses to see if I was a candidate. Immediately I was, despite …
