So although I've started this journey about 9 months ago with all the weigh ins and what not, two days ago I finally went and had my pre blood work and chest x-ray done. It's amazing how those two things made this seem so much more real. I have my EKG in two weeks and my surgery consult on September 11th. I'm beyond excited to be on this life changing journey Sent from my Pixel using BariatricPal mobile app

Hey all. My name is Geri, and this is my story. In 2010 after years of yo yo diets, ups and downs, I decided to do something. My husband was against Gastric By-pass and frankly I was to because I had a GF that had had it and was having all sort of issues. But being new to the bariatric world I didn't know why she was having issues I just thought it was Gastric By-pass in general. (Turns out she was doing all sorts of stuff to sabotage herself) So back then the latest and greatest thing was the Lap-Band. I asked my hubby if he would go to the seminar with me. He replied why would you want to go to a Lap Dance seminar Sweetie? LOL So we went, with Burgerking drinks fro…

I got the call last week for my first consultation with my surgeon which is next Tuesday! I AM PUMPED! So.... I decided to start my own YouTube Channel called Mickel VSG. I uploaded my first video today talking about my background and my goals, and I am already starting on my second one which will be called VSG 101 History & Evolution which is born from all of the research that I have been doing for the past month and a half on the VSG. I hope to have it done tomorrow or the next day to help people know a little bit more about the history of the VSG and the latest information that I have gleaned from Doctors, books, videos, and other sources. Hope that you can co…

I'm 46yrs old, my surgery was 7/17/17 weight was 203. I'm home in recovery. Right after surgery I was exhausted.. I slept for 24 hours!! But the next day I was up and moving. Crazy as it sounds I was never so happy to be in pain. I finally did something just for me!! On day 5 I finally reached my goal of protein and water intake!! Yes!! Happy dance!! Happy Dance!! My biggest problem I guess is not getting enough sleep! Since the day of surgery I have been waking at 2am[emoji58] I also do not like that I have to give myself shots twice a day, I keep telling myself there is a light at the end of the tunnel.. I would love any advice on gas, swallowing air or drinking too …

I was sleeved December 27, 2016. Since May, I have been experiencing many firsts. I did a quick search and noticed that there was not a thread about this. I have been overweight since I was 9. With this being said, I have not been able to do things other people/kids have. In fear that I would break things or I did not want the embarrassment of falling or not fitting. I stopped riding Rollercoasters when I was 14. Now that I am 130 pounds lighter I am working my my first list. In May, I ran my first 5k in 39 min. In July, I road the farris wheel for the first time since I was 13. Now as I'm writing this, I am in a hammock for the first time in my life. This may seem sm…

So I'm 4 weeks today post sleeve surgery. I also got to celebrate this with having a tooth extraction. However, I am currently after losing 30.5 pounds in 6 weeks ( I'm including my pre op two weeks). I was feeling dubious about whether the process would work and today I just became a believer I feel like finally it's real and I might actually achieve my health goals and I feel like my mind is blown! Had my VSG revision (from LapBand) scheduled for tomorrow (8/15/17) in Mexico. Got down to do the pre-op testing. All was going well, vitals were all good, I lost the prescribed weight, but then... Apparently either I missed the question or it wasn't recorded properly in the pre-screen that I have had Hepatitis B in the past. Mind you, my HepB was 30 years ago and was acute (meaning no ongoing symptoms). Also, I had LapBand 8 years ago and there were absolutely no liver issues then and I have numerous liver panels through the years with no ongoing liver function issues. However, out of an abundance of caution - they want to run a fresh liver function blood test and t…

I had a major complication. I know it's very rare, but I had the unfortunate experience of bleeding of my spleen. I was sleeved on July 19th at OCC. Here's the facts: I woke up after the surgery and felt fine. Pain was relatively insignificant. However, the evening of surgery, I experienced more pain and thought it was just gas and decided to walk the floor most of the night in hopes to relieve what I thought was gas pain. My fellow "sleepers" were discharged the next morning, but I clearly was not ambulatory. A Dr. finally came to see what was going on, only to give me some unknown injection. I felt better within an hour and was taken back to the hotel. Fast forward. App…

Hey Everyone. My name is Katie. I have only posted here one time before pre op and that was regarding insurance. Anyway, I was finally approved after 6 months of nutrition evaluations. I had my surgery on June 20th, 2017 and I'm down 39 pounds so far. My starting weight at the hospital was 295 and this morning I weighed 256. So far I've had no complications and I can pretty much eat anything. I say that loosely because there are times I've tried some questionable things when I've been on the road. No dumping. I eat very little of anything and am finding myself having to drink more protein shakes to get my protein in. I've found myself not really caring for food and then h…

I'm still trying to learn and remember to eat slowly and still learning what I can handle and can't handle. Food is a whole new thing now and my mom was against me having the wls in the first place and now that I can't hardly eat much when I do eat, I'm starting to feel like lying to her would be easier. Telling her I ate more than I really did. I shouldn't have to do this because I'm 56 and I'm tired of babying her about the whole situation but it's almost a necessity. Has anyone else been through this? Sent from my N9519 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello-- My name is Christina. I am a 34 year old mother, wife, daughter, friend, and coworker who lives in Michigan. For the past 28 or so years, I have struggled with my weight. I have been embarrassed by it, limited by it, and protected by it. Now, enough is enough. About 2 months ago I started down the journey of VSG. I am almost half way done with my "prep" work, and if all goes as planned I will be having surgery by year end, I feel awkward and embarrassed about this whole process. Hopefully I am not alone!

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I posted. I was scheduled to do the sleeve in February, but unfortunately, my brother in law passed the day before my surgery day. Since then, I was able get into a size 16. But, after stress on the job, family loss, PCOS going crazy, I have gained my weight back. I was 218 on Feb. 8th, now, I'm 237. So, I'm starting over. And thinking about doing the band. Gladly, I have 6 months grace period, but now, I want to extend it for another month so I can lose the weight and get on surgery schedule. I want the band so I can have shorter recovery. [emoji16] Sent from my DL1008M using the BariatricPal App

Hey there! I'm new to this forum. I have been a member at another board, but their anti-carb philosophy made me angry and eventually the black sheep. Anyway, I had the sleeve done in February and since then I've lost nearly 75 lbs. I lost 100 pounds before surgery which I'm glad I was able to do. I'm about 45 pounds away from my goal now. I'm 31 years old, live in Minnesota with my cats and dog. I'm an avid reader and writer which is good since I work in a library. My job requires that I move a lot during the day, so not only has that helped with my loss, my loss has made my job easier. Since surgery, I've been able to take up running again, I've been on an airp…

So I am a year and two months post op. Thinking back, a year ago I was wondering if I made the right decision. I couldn't keep anything down, I was so exhausted, and it seemed like my surgery was more of a curse than a blessing. I couldn't eat without feeling overwhelmingly full. However, I weigh 135 lbs now and the saying is so true, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. although I still vomit after eating, it doesn't happen as often. I have to be on prescription heart burn medication for my gerd and they completely control it if I stay on top of it and other than those two issues my body has adjusted to my new "tummy" fairly well. Of course there is the little things …

Hi everyone, I'm new here! I'm also newly sleeved (8/10/2017) and reading a lot about everyone's experiences and questions/answers has helped me so much already! My story is a long one but I'll make it short and sweet! As a child, I had a lot of trouble losing weight. Eventually my mother took me to see a pediatric endocrinologist who diagnosed me with PCOS which has been the bane of my existence. This contributed to weight gain for the next several years. I wanted to try all other alternatives before this and found a great endocrinologist to work with a few years later. I was very successful using non-insulin Victoza (liraglutide). It's a once daily injection in your be…

Hello, I had my sleeve done 8/2/17. Today is my second week. I don't know what I should or should not be feeling. I don't have any pain and have been sticking to the required plan. I meet with my doctor tomorrow to get cleared to go back to work. I have the luxury to take another week but unsure what I should do. I want to go to work but still get extremely tired with exertion. I am a Medical Assistant and always on the go at work. How long did you take off from work?

I started my journey on April 14, 2017. After 20 plus years of numerous diet plans, eating right and exercising I would lose the weight quick only to gain it back-and then some. I started this journey in April at my heaviest weight of 271 @ 5' 7. With this I have high blood-pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, thyroid issues and of course the numerous aches and pains in my joints. During my 3 months of supervised diet I dropped 18 pounds. My 2 week pre-op liquid diet I drooped 6 pounds. As of today 8/12/2017 (day 5) post-op I have lost another 6 pounds. I am very pleased with my progress so far. I had to go through a lot of hoops to get insurance to approve. I am so …

Thanks to everyone, especially the frequent posters and vets who make such a difference - more than you know! I am 11 weeks out from surgery and am so grateful that I am on this journey to reclaim my health for decades to come. A little background - my highest weight was pre-surgery at 335. I lost 16 lbs in the two week pre surgery diet and since surgery have lost 53 pounds. In the first month I lost 29, 2nd month I lost 12.6 and this month I will loose around 10-11 lbs. I was a snug size 24 and am now wearing an 18 in most plus size brands. I flew for a work conference last week and had plenty of room in the seat and inches to spare in the seatbelt …

I did the liquid diet but everything from the broth to water was causing nausea. After dealing with this for about 2 weeks I found myself in the ER being treated for dehydration. Omaha, Nebraska? Hello everyone! I am a fellow Omaha Native. I have my PFT's tomorrow and am waiting to hear from Nebraska Medicaid for approval for the laparoscopic Roux en Y with Dr. Winterstein at Methodist Hospital. I have only met with Dr. Winterstein and his NP one time. I know that there have been a lot of changes made in their office, because Dr. Cronk and Dr. Anthone do not practice there anymore. I am wondering if anybody had to deal with the office staff, insurance coordinator, nurse, etc. at the Methodist Bariatric Surgery office in the last couple months? I have received such poor patient care from them. They are extremely rude to me. The director damn near y…

Hello all I am now sleeved! Had my surgery on 8/9 at 2:00p. This is day 3 and not as bad as I imagined. Pain is treated with oxycodone liquid so not a huge issue. Still sleeping in a recliner, bed too much of a pain with the drain tube. Had my first protein shake and took 8oz in 45 min with no issues! Haven't weighed myself cause all the gas and swelling so will wait until day 5 to do that. Started this journey on 5/5/2017 and weighed in at 481. I decided on changing my life with the birth of our first child. I want to be around for her future. Surgery weight was 442. The best feeling I have had so far (and I know it's gross) is passing gas, never been so happy and relie…

This person is obese This highlights how absurd BMI is. This picture is from last Monday. I was 183 lbs. BMI 30.5 I think it was. Obese class 1. When I look at that picture, I don't look obese, I don't feel obese. I don't consider myself obese. I started with an BMI of 42+, obese class 2. I have another 31 lbs to loose to reach a normal BMI. It might not happen and I'm okay with that. I have lost 74.5 lbs since two weeks before surgery (surgery date 3.20.17)

I had gastric bypass surgery 19 days ago and all was going great until today! I woke up with pulsating sharp pains in my lower left side under my ribs but above my hip bone. It's not a blockage, I'm still able to pass gas, which is a relief! The only things I did different in the last 2 days was start to take the meds that prevent gallstones and I started to take the calcium chewable as well. It could be a side effect of one of those or maybe just constipation. Anyone else experiencing this?

I am over 4 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. My project during my 2nd and 3rd year post-op was to build an underground shelter. This year my wife wanted me to build a playhouse for the grandkids. I wasn't too keen on the idea. But on giving the matter some thought I decided to go ahead under 2 conditions. First - that is was a log cabin playhouse. I never built a log cabin, so it would be a new experience. Second - that the grandkids get involved in the construction. Building something from scratch is very valuable experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. They are rather young (11, 9, and 5) but its the process that matters. I mu…

Two more visits with my dietician and then will submit for insurance approval. Hoping to have GBS before the end of the year. Started a meal replacement drink for breakfast and multivitamins about a week ago as well as other recommendations from my RD. Trying to start changes now and prepare as much as I can for post-op life. Some things I have read on this forum scare me and others are helpful/encouraging. Looking forward to positive interactions on here and learning more to help me succeed on my journey.
