Hey all, My family and I do vlogs on YouTube and documenting the journey of my wife and me in our journey's with weight loss surgery. My wife was sleeved on 9-18 and I'll be having gastric bypass on 10-17 this coming Tuesday. I set a goal for myself when I started back in Jan that I wanted to lose 100lbs before my surgery. I had my final weight in and recorded what the scale said in a recent vlog. Did I hit the goal?

I'm so happy to say I'm over it. All these years of you weighing me down. My life revolved around you. Seemed like it was always about you. Where to go, what to choose, how much I wanted. You always made me feel guilty and out of control. I was obsessed with you. You kept me from being comfortable in my own skin. You kept me from being the active mom my kids deserved. The hot wife my husband deserves. You kept me on the couch unable to enjoy life. Me you and the tv. I would lie to my friends and family and say " I don't like outside I'm an inside person". When in reality I wanted to be outdoors enjoying life. But instead my dependence on you kept me immobile. But since my…

Hello all, I am going to be sleeved on Tuesday (19th September 2017) and I found myself on this website this evening creating a profile... I suppose I am on here for some support and guidance, but also because I thought it might help center my own thoughts about my journey to 'have to' type it out. Mini therapy, I guess. I also couldn't find - maybe I was being lazy - too many people sharing their journey with my sort of stats, so many I will be helpful to some younger, female patients on the 'light' side of the scale in terms of what to expect etc. We are all in this together! VITAL STATS Age: 26 Height: 159cm or 5'1" Weight: About 86.5…

I’m one week from my surgery and all the sudden I’m freaking out! I don’t have a ton of foods that I love but ice cream is pretty awesome... will I ever be able to eat it again? What if the doctor is drunk? What if he nicks a artery? What is I die or have horrible complications? Or what if it doesn’t work? What if I gain it all back? Also... how come I’m all the sudden wanting to eat everything in sight?? Is this psychological?? I’m excited but so nervous. Can anyone relate?!

My story is pretty typical. I have been overweight most of my life except for the few times I went on crash diets, lost a lot of weight, only to regain it back and more. My peak weight (or maybe it was the nadir) was when I hit 292 last January. I'm a 5'11" 48 yo male who should weigh 190. I was pretty depressed and didn't want to socialize or even leave the house except for work. I also had hypertension and was prediabetic. I still can't believe I didn't have full blown diabetes. I made the decision to have a VSG in March, and the surgery was this past Tuesday, August 22, 2017. I'm not hungry but the protein shakes are a bit of a drag. I even put one in a marti…

I am Megan in the UK, in the final stages of being approved for gastric sleeve surgery. I hope to have surgery before Christmas. I am getting quite anxious, not about the surgery itself, but whether I can handle only being able to have small meals. I have always been a binge eater, and when I have lost weight it has usually been by filling up on large quantities of vegetables. If I restrict quantities I tend to binge. I've lost 7 pounds in the assessment stage but it has gone up and down. Sugar gives me a boost and I use it almost like a drug. I haven't talked to the doctors about this very much because I'm afraid of being turned away. I'm relying on the surgery…

Seven years ago I was morbidly obese. I had a very active little boy and wanted nothing more than to be active with him, and have more children. In Jan, 2010 I decided to have gastric bypass. I followed every single rule given to be by both my surgeon and nutritionist. Within 6 months I had lost 100 lbs but was suffering with chronic stomach pain, naseua, and vomiting. My surgeon took one look at me and said,"whenever my patients come in with your symptoms looking as good as you do, they're pregnant." I assured her that I was not pregnant, for it wouldn't have been safe for me to become pregnant so soon after my bypass. She took a pregnancy test and I never h…

its now been 4.5 years since I was sleeved. my high weight was 323 lbs. my goal weight was low 180's. I did reach goal weight but over the years I realized that my desired goal weight was too low for me. now for the last 2 years ive steadily maintained a weight in the mid 190's and that appears to be where im supposed to be and im happy with that weight. today 10/1/17 I weight 195 lbs. I exercise 3-4 times a week and my choice of exercise is running. I will also be running the 2018 boston marathon and im so excited about being able to run this historic race! im running it for the jimmy v foundation for cancer research and ive committed to raising $6000 which is no easy ta…

Had my pre-op appointment today! I really like my surgeon so that helps! October 17th I'm getting sleeved!!! Woohoo!!! I'm so excited and believe this is the best course for me and my future. I've always been bigger but not fat until very shortly after I got married, I was diagnosed with Endometriosis and PCOS. They took a grapefruit sized cyst off my left ovary and found the Enzo ha ravaged my insides... it was even growing up my spine [emoji30]. The Doctors put me on a awful medicine called lupron. It forced into a medically induced menopause (at 22 years old), hair was falling out, made me violent, hot flashes, no sex drive. Also they put me on heavy steroids!!! It wa…

I never really had a weight issues till I was pregnant with my son at the age of 18 I had gone from 110lbs to 220 lbs in that time. He was trying to come at 5 months a long and I started to get steriod shots a lot and my wieght went up. I struggled for years to try and get the wieght off. I did everything the doctor asked of me and after 10 years I went with this option. I wont lie either, I went with this surgry because they said the weight came off faster. I really wish I didnt go with this option. I had it done Sept 2008 by Dec 2008 I was in the er I had lost over 70% of the blood in my body. I had a tear in my intestine and was bleeding out, so I started throwi…

I am 9 days out from gastic bypass. I went back to work Monday and I feel good except for the pain in my incision closest to my belly button.. It only hurts when I have gas trapped and when I get up from a low chair and bed wrong it feels like a sharp pain for a second.. Has anyone experienced this? I went to the Dr Tuesday and she said she had to cut something because it looked like the start of a hernia and that is what I am experiencing, Has anyone experienced this? It's like the pain when you get a stich in your side from running but only when I twist a certain way... I am not hungry but my senses have really heightened.. I smell food when its around.. I really am…

Hi all I am new to the support group and I am looking to create connection with those going through a similar set of circumstances. Let me set the stage 9 years ago a younger version of myself picked up the phone and called 1800lapband, if I could talk to that girl today....oh well. Any who I did that surgery and very frankly felt like I was being treated much like cattle it was a very bad experience. The lap band didn't really "take" I lost a grand total of 20 pounds and I genuinely kept it off for about 8 years then around August of 2015 I started getting really sick like I couldn't eat the same foods any more everything gave me the thick gross throw up that I lovi…

I've been enjoying eating bad food even though I'm eating very little so today I've made the decision to STOP THE MADDNESS AND TAKE CONTROL!!!!! I'm beginning the regain maintenance program through the Bariatric 101 plan on FB(they provide a link), drinking more water and exercising at least 3x out the week(NO MORE BEING LAZY & GREEDY) wish me luck!!

I'm almost afraid to say it, but at the same time I feel like I need to go outside and shout it from the roof tops! I feel amazing! I am an entirely new person. These first two months from surgery have been the most trying time in my entire life. Most days I couldn't get out of bed, and I wanted nothing more than to lay there and die. I struggled for the first month with muscle pain so severe I couldn't move. After that I struggled debilitating nausea. It got so bad that I hadn't eaten in over a month. On the rare occasion I would try the food would come right back up. Early last week it got so bad that I could no longer keep down water. At this point I had been in the ho…

Its 4 months since my surgery and I seem to find it difficult eating. I still barely down 32oz of fluid a day. The most meal I will have is 2 meals the size of my palm a day. My appetite has changed drastically. I literally hate almost every food. I used to love eggs now its like I cant bother as I get the choking feeling even when i eat really slow, dont even bother about chicken breast. My breakfast will be some sort of sort cereal or porridge, lunch will be soup with fish protein and dinner will normally be nothing as I still feel full from lunch. Is this suppose to be normal? Is anyone else experiencing this? I am down 57lbs so far and have 100 more to go but now my w…

9 months ago when I took the picture on the left I was miserable, depressed and down right disgusted with myself. Yesterday July 23rd, 9 weeks post op I decided to take some new pictures. The one on the right is one of those pictures. I am so thankful I had such an amazing surgeon and team members. They made sure my surgery was done properly in order to make sure my success is achievable. Dr Maytorena, Long Term WLS, and my coordinator gave me so much more than I could ever have imagined. In 9 short weeks, yes you read that right, I am down over 50 pounds almost 70 pounds counting my preop! I feel better than I have in years! I have more self esteem, better sleep, I'm mor…

I've been scared out of my mind about getting the surgery. I've never been under before, I'm a big guy. Food has been my life. I've been lurking here for a while, resisting signing up. During my two weeks of liquid diet, I've been telling friends and family "I don't need it". "Look at me, this liquid diet has been simple, I can do two protein shakes a day and a light dinner or vice versa with breakfast. I've tried talking myself out of it as recently as yesterday... I might not need it, I might be able to do it without the surgery, but lurking here, reading all your hardships and successes, I know that I can take the surgery, and the lifestyle change I'm curre…

I had my surgery on 8/14/17. I am a type 2 diabetic and was told that 97% of patients finish surgery and no longer need medications. In the hospital for the two days after surgery, my blood sugar was normal. Once I got home, it skyrocketed back to 250-300. Before surgery I was on 2,000 mg of metformin and 10 mg of glyburide daily. Has anyone lose experienced this? I am getting fed up because I had the surgery specifically to help with my diabetes. My doctor said he has no idea why my body is being so resistant ... and now I really just want to cry. I've put myself back on metformin which keeps my levels in the lower 200 and I am going to see my primary doctor this week to…

Hi Everyone, I've been reading these boards for a while but first time posting. I decided to post today since I officially scheduled sleeve surgery! My journey has been interesting thus far but not nearly as long/hard as some posts I've read. I originally started thinking about wls over 2 years ago. I had always been thin growing up and it wasn't until I had my first child that I began to gain weight. Actually after I had my first child I lost all the baby weight and fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans 2 weeks later (size 5). But it did not last long as I found my appetite had increased and the weight would not come off like it used to. That was over 16 years ago.…
