I have a date since last week (Nov 30th) and everyday I question whether I should back out. I spent most of my adult life thinnish (130) but always on a diet and went up and down 10-15 lbs and felt that I understood the struggle. I felt different than my thin friends who would always leave food on their plate. And I found ways to get my sugar in so I have a bad relationship with food and def a stress eater. Once I had my kids at 38, I spent the next 9 years going between 170 and 247 (current weight.) I managed to loose 70 lbs 3 years ago with Weight Watchers and thought I had it all figured out. Even threw out my fat clothes. Then I spent the following year gaining i…

Had my band almost 9 years, had it out in MX this past June. What a nightmare, was ripped off by the medical advocate that took me down to have it taken out. (She was the same one that took me down to MX 9 years ago when I had it put in) The band was eroded and the hospital wanted an extra 1500.00, the advocate took my husband to San Diego to get the money and she kept it. Never saw her again ...and the Dr/ Hosp is demanding the money I owe them. They tell me she does not work for them anymore, even though she did when I had it put in. They told me they were going to kidnap me. It was terrifying. Getting the band was the BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. The advocate to…

Surgery date: 1/27/2011 I did great with my routine for a good while. If I didn't remember to get my food my wife or kids would. Then life sped up as the weight came off, I started focusing on the exercise and eating right. I never noticed that I never had hunger pangs or stomach "growling". No, I do not have an eating disorder. I have my phone set to go off to eat (but I can't exactly carry meals with me to appointments which I have a lot of, mine or kids), which I do eat. I often forget when home if I'm busy cleaning, I'm the house husband lol. well ff to now. I've passed my goal by... 30-35lbs or so. 200 was goal and I'm 166ish. I haven't felt a bit of h…

In one month I will be 1 year post-op. I can't believe it's been that long! I was 470 at the end of October 2016 and today I was 287. If anyone reading this is on the fence about getting the sleeve, jump off the fence. This surgery is life changing. I haven't felt this good physically in years. What else can I say? It works.

Ok, for those who do not know me, a little background. Was banded Jan 2011....met my goal weight within 12 months. Have been 100% successful and as happy as can be ever since, the band did everything I had expected to. I will also add I never had a single problem. If you call getting stuck, regurgitating a problem, well good luck with that.......I call that a learning curve. Stop doing what caused those issues. Toughest Part?? Letting the band make the rules, and me changing, adapting to get along with what the bands demands. That meant giving up a lot of things I used to enjoy. Today...went back to my surgeon (and office staff) who I have not seen in a fe…

So, I want to start a thread where everyone can just vent about their surgery. Even if you haven't had it yet. I'm sure we've all had our fair share of ups and downs throughout this whole journey. Sometimes, it's nice to talk about your frustrations without judgement. And what better place to talk about what you're going through, than with people who also have had similar situations. So let's start! [emoji4]

Hi My name is Rissa. I'm 24 years old and a new mom to a 6 month old. I've struggled with obesity my whole life, tried every diet pill, workout, meal plan and nothing worked.. From doctors telling me I was prone to so many health issues and a patient who "might" have pcos. I got blessed with my miracle baby. I gained 80 lbs with my pregnancy, weighing in at 345 my highest weight. Dr diagnosed me with preeclampsia 2 days before I was induced. After giving birth I lost 41 pounds( minus 7lbs which my son weighed) and I've been stuck. So 2 months ago, I was FINALLY prescribed phentermine! I went from 304 to 290 in 2 months. Now, my journey begins! October 25 I have my pre-op…

Hello! I've looked through the site in the past, decided to post today.. I'm one month post-op from my RNY surgery. Abit about me.. I'm 31. Live in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada). I first applied to the weight loss program back in September/October of 2014 and was 'rejected'. Part of the process in Winnipeg is that you fall within certain criteria. Now, I fell within all the criteria but my doctor is an idiot and put my height 3 inches lower than I actually am (I'm 6'1, not 5'10 like he thinks), weighing just under 370 lbs. The criteria to get into the program is: 18-55 years old Non-smoker BMI 40-55 (35-39 if you have contributing conditions) Shown previous…

Hello all. I am three months in since my gastric sleeve surgery the end of July 2017 here in British Columbia. Started at 300 pounds before I began the pre-op program a year ago. Lost 60 before surgery and am down to 207 pounds as of today. Looking at some posts by others I think I am VERY lucky in how things have gone. The only two problems I have ongoing are heartburn and constipation that I need to really work at to keep things "moving along". As a reward to myself I treated myself to a week long cruise that I returned from two days ago. Now many folk may say that was asking for trouble with all the "free food" on a cruise but I actually found myself very discipl…

Hey there everybody! Tomorrow will mark 2 weeks post-op for me. I’ve already lost 26 pounds so far. My concern however is that my weight has been fluctuating since I’ve been home. I’ll loose a pound or 2 one day and the next day I’ll gain 5 pounds. Not sure how or why I’m gaining. Not sure if this normal. Did anyone have the same issue?

Has anyone had a Gastric Bypass after having had a lapband erosion at the esophageal junction? Have been told I had lots of scar tissue so I’m wondering which would be safer post erosion. I’ve heard the Bypass is better post lapband but with the scar tissue, it all scares me.

Did month 1 pre-op visits in March '17. Stalled due to non supportive husband and I lost my job. Straightened his attitude, got a new job, and now I'm back in the saddle. Up until my pregnancy at age 26, my weight was at 100 to 110. I'd been a noodle my entire life. Weightlifting brought me up to 110 lbs and dropped me from a size 4 to a size 0. Pregnancy- not the beautiful experience everyone dreams of. Gained 80 lbs, 6 weeks bed rest before delivery. Terrible acne, 36 hour labor (pelvis too narrow). Horrible. My amazing son is 17 and I still look like I'm pregnant with twins, one of them is apparently gestating in my chin. I am at an all time high of 230, recent…

I have the lapband. My band is no good so I’m going to get the sleeve. My doctors office calls my insurance and my insurance tells them all the requirements to have the revision to the sleeve. I go through 6 months of insurance requirements and now we submitted it to insurance and they are saying it’s not covered through my insurance plan. My doctors office has the codes and requirements they said I needed and now in my plan it says it’s not covered! I’m furious! Why did they give the codes and requirements and also cover the 6 months of requirements if it’s not covered! We are appealing it. Then if that doesn’t work I’m going to talk to a lawyer about what to do if they …

Hi, all. I wanted to find a place where i can document everything so this is it. I had my sleeve done on 10/3/17. What amazes me is that what I have experienced seems to follow most people to a T. The past week-and-a-half was very frustrating as I hit a nine day stall, experienced that slime everyone has spoken of, had a bout of depression where I couldn't stop crying for days, and was so tired I couldn't function once I got home from work. Oh, and the monthly friend I haven't seen in two years came back to visit. I've been having a really hard time getting all of my protein and liquids. I mean I'm lucky if I get one water bottle in an entire day. I am finally able …

I did it! I lost 135 lbs in 10months and climbed to Everest Base Camp this week. It took 10 days hiking up and 5 days down. This was my first hiking experience ever. I been dreaming to do this for the past 5 years and finally it is checked off my bucket list! I feel so good every day. Even on my bad days I feel better then when I weight 294lbs. That is success to me!

My Story, Post 1 First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Ilene. Many places I go with the monachre "DRS_Are_Best" and other places I use the name "Goodbye Fatso". I started a video blog about six weeks ago (the link is below....feel free to link and subscribe) detailing my journey as the mood strikes me. I am sure to keep everything honest and truthful. I just joined Bariatric Pal yesterday, so I'm still trying to find my way around and discover the best forums. But here is my story to date. I will keep posting on this thread as things develop. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWykljcE5G14S1syNzG9tWg?view_as=subscriber …

Let's start with some stats about me: Female, age = 27, height = 5'3", was sleeved 3 years ago when I was 24. Highest weight ever = 210 and weighted 198 on surgery day, reached 147 pounds eight months post-surgery and for the past year have been gradually gaining weight, currently at 172. Now why the title of the post? I wasn't that heavy to begin with: If you're not that overweight (below 250 pounds or so, for someone with my stats, for example), I highly do not recommend getting sleeved or having any other gastric surgery for that matter. It seriously is not worth it because you can probably lose the weight gradually without the aid of such a drastic permanent surge…

I'm in my 4th week post-op, I'm already walking about 5 km per day, I'm eating all real foods and getting my 70 + g of protein in a day, without protein supplements. The foods I'm eating are eggs, beans, tuna, milk, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, chicken, beef, frozen spinach (heated), frozen berries (heated), mashed potatoes (white and sweet), squash of all kinds, peeled apples (can't wait to have an apple with the peel!), I seem to be able to eat just about anything. Before surgery, I got in really good shape. I did 60 minutes of cardio per day (walking around 7 - 10 km per day, stationary bike 16 km per day, and 30 minutes of strength training 6 days a week (alternating…

I had a gastric sleeve done in October 2016 in Tijuana Mexico at Mexico Bariatric Centre. My doctor was Dr Valenzuela. I travelled with my daughter from Calgary. After the operation my leak test was done and recorded on my discharge summary as negative. We left Mexico to go back home flying from San Diego to Seattle. When we were in the air and about 1 hour from Seattle I experience extreme pain that I can only explain as having a heart attack. I was met on the ground by an ambulance and taken to hospital where the doctor found a 6mm hole in my stomach. I was then rushed into emergency for a 4 hour operation and spent 10 days in hospital at a cost of $122,000. After re…

I’ve been researching VSG for close to a year. I’ve devoured everything I could find about it and felt really informed when I went to my appointment this morning. I’m 34, 5’7” and 265 lbs. No health problems yet but I know they’re coming! Doctor said I’d be a great candidate and after answering my questions sent me over to financial/scheduling. My insurance doesn’t cover bariatrics so I already knew the price and what we’d be paying. Scheduled nutrition, psych, and a pre-op class (all on site) and surgery is Nov. 20th! After all my research it’s like things have gone into hyperdrive. I didn’t expect it all to happen so fast and it’s a little scary. Tell me other people wo…

So I'm almost a year out (11/21/2016) and I'm about 105 pounds down. My weight loss has slowed now, probably to about 2-3 pounds a month since June (as expected), but it's still happening and I've now started to be more active -- Tennis, swimming... I feel terrific and as you can see, there's a radical change. I'd like to lose another 20-30 pounds, but I'm going to do that with more exercise. The first picture is a before and after of my face. Then there's some full body shots, or close to full body. Just to give you an idea of how radical this change was, prior to surgery, I was the following: 358 pounds and a 50/52 inch waist size. Today 249 …

I have been told by multiple people (friends, family and coworkers) that I am getting slim and shouldn't lose much more weight (like maybe 20 more lbs max). I'm at 197 right now and want to hit 130 (and this is my max, I ideally want to get smaller). I'm not even 5 feet tall but a number of people have said that I shouldn't want to lose my "thickness". I don't get it. I can't wrap my head around this obsession with "thickness". At 130 I'd still be considered overweight. I don't even like the way I look right now so it boggles my mind to have people say that I look good this way. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had my Sleeve this morning at approximately 9:00am. My surgeon was Dr. Stegemann who is fantastic! Actually the other surgeon in their practice Dr. Gopal assisted so I was in very capable hands. I had to have an arterial line placed for monitoring BP, HR, O2 because I have an AICD (defibrillator & pacemaker) for a rare congenital heart defect called ARVD. And still everything went great. He told my son after surgery all surgeries should go that smoothly ?. I had some sharp, burning pain in recovery when I first woke up that was quickly relieved with Dilaudid. Then when they moved me to a room they switched me to morphine which I had a total of 3 times, the last ti…

Hi everyone, I'm Kathryn and I'm new around here so please forgive me if I'm not too familiar with how things go around here....so let me start at the beginning, I guess... I've always been fat...even as a child. I weighed 8lbs when I was born and apparently that was unprecedented in the Philippines. And as I grew...oh did I grow...and it just did not stop. It took me a very long time to accept myself the way I am. At one point I was able to lose about 29lbs after my divorce by watching what I ate...not even exercising. But then a great big stress happened. My youngest brother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2013. He recently passed away in July 20…
