Hello everyone, my name is Carolf5 and I am here to say that I have made the mistake that I originally said that I would not do. I originally had my Gastric Bypass surgery on 12/17/2012 and I lost 287 pounds-fast. The following year I was still losing and then the next year my face looked like a skeleton and I needed to add a bit to it. So, I was told to add some carbs back into diet-ended up being a big mistake. I ended up gaining a lot back to the carbs-mostly crackers. I tried to stop and found it too hard to do so so, now I am going to do the pouch reset and hope that helps me get rid of the carb problem. I will have to get rid of all carbs completely. De…

I’m at the point now where I’m looking at skin removal. I started at 285 I’m down to 160 and have a lot of extra skin on my stomach. It’s been a confidence low point for me, especially being a single woman. I feel like people don’t know what they are getting into with me and definitely don’t feel comfortable with the extra skin. Anyone else have skin surgery? What can I expect? What’s the cost like?

Its hard to believe that this kind of surgery has been around this long already. Yes I had this done 45 years ago in Traverse City at Munson Hospital. Back then it was an open surgery they staple the stomach and create a small pouch then it is bypassed to the jejunum. While they were doing this surgery back then all the organs were removed and cleaned out. You stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks or so, much different then how it is done now adays. I have maintained the weight loss over the years, however, there was a few years when I had put on up to 40 pounds and just started slowly getting it back off once I realized what I was doing.

Hello, My name is Arturo and I am 2 years post-op Gastric Bypass. I have lost a total of 185 pounds which for once in my life I could say I am not over weight. Unfortunately, when I had my surgery I was readmitted to the hospital a week later with abdominal pain which turned out to be a Portal Vein Thrombosis due to the surgery. This started my hell of Portal Hypertension and an enlarged spleen that has caused constant abdominal pain ever since. Luckily I was able to find a hepatic surgeon who could help my issue by restoring blood supply to my liver which has been reduced since the surgery 2 years ago. I am happy that my blood supply has been restored but it s…

Good Morning Everyone! I ran across this blog yesterday, took the majority of the day to read posts and excitedly joined this morning! Here's my story: I started developing health issues in 2010 at the age of 42 (207 pounds). It started with developing blood clots from taking the weight lose drug HCG - clots reached my lungs and I was 1 step away from death : ( I started the Slim Fast program in 2012 and lost 25 pounds. From there I joined a fitness group (my profile name comes from my group) and dropped a total of 75 pounds - lowest weight 132 pounds. 1998: Went to Sweden for a Gastric Band (Disaster... but I did not know until....) Woke up with a 10 inch scar on my stomach. What? Why? Never got a real answer 1999: Band was to be maintained in Washington State. The Drs said there was something wrong. I felt a lot of discomfort and could not eat anything. 2000: Band removed (I think) and RNY performed. Medical notes mention the band was wrapped up and twisted in scar tissue. I only read that years later. 2000 to 2010: I did not follow any instructions, rarely took my vitamins, never monitored vitamins. I was an idiot. Ended up with Osteoporosis and needed iron transfusions. Actually had…

Everyone has a moment where they realize they need to do something. Maybe it’s not fitting in an airplane seat, or having to go up a size in clothes.... I’m sure there has been a thread like this before but I don’t want to go back and search it! Mine isn’t a moment but a series of moments. I saw a picture of myself and thought, is that what I really look like? The final straw was a trip to DC- I about DIED. All. The. Walking! And if you will recall the Southeast had a heat wave in May- yep we were there when it began. The worst was when we visited Mt Vernon on the way back. I was swollen, hot, cranky, and MISERABLE. I called and made the appointment for the c…

Hello, I'm Tracy age 45 mom of 7, ages 30 to 1½. I'm originally from southern California and now reside in Alabama. I had the Roux en Y procedure 12/26/2001 almost 18 years ago in Whittier California at age 28, my weight skyrocketed to 407lbs at 5'2"..! Luckily with no other conditions i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure etc so I was a great candidate. My lowest weight was 148. I maintained for many years until 2006 after my 5th child and a nasty divorce and with that came my depression & over eating. In 2007, I moved to Alabama and weighed 189, got remarried in 08' and had 2 more children. After having my 6th child in 2011 my weight got up to 203 & there it stayed…

in October of 2012 I went to my primary care doctor and discuss the possibility of weight loss surgery with him. He agreed that it was a good option for me. So he referred me to a weight loss surgeon in North Carolina, it all seemed very fast tracked by November 12th I was having my gastric bypass surgery. I started my own weight loss journey before surgery in January of 2010. My starting weight was 305 I got myself down to 210 and then gained 40 back that was when I decided on surgery to help me .. Fast forward to now..... My weight on November 12 2012 (surgery day) was 250 lb today I'm at 150 lbs. I got as low as 135 but have gained some of it back. ( Which I will take …

Hello Everyone, I am from Miami Florida and flew to Medellin Colombia to get my gastric sleeve surgery. Dr. Carlos Alberto Lopera is well known and recommend by 5 coworkers who also flew to Medellin to get the surgery. After seeing how well everything went for all of my 5 coworkers I decided to contact him and make my initial consultation. I did my surgery on March 19 and have lost 35 pounds since then. It has been the best decision ever. For anyone who is interested in more information I'll be more than happy to try to answer your questions. the Dr normally has a standard price of 15,000,000 pesos (Colombian money) which is about $5,000.00 US dollars. I am new here, I haven’t been on a public forum in a long time (and for a reason) but I thought it might be helpful to write out my bariatric surgery journey as best I can. I don’t know anyone who has had the surgery with chronic illness, disability, multiple medical conditions, etc. let alone anyone with M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) which is a kind of immunodeficiency. I’ve lived with this from childhood and also battled with my weight longer than I care to remember. This is long and hard to talk about without going into intense detail. I wasn’t not diagnosed with M.E. Until I was in my early twenties. It was a long road to get there and led to many questions a…

I am 58 years old and have had a lap band for 11 years. The fact that I am in this forum shows that I was not successful and have now gone through a year of analysis to see if I qualify for bypass surgery. My surgery day is June 10th and I have one week of slim fast under my belt. Needless to say I am HUNGRY. Unlike some other places I have not been allowed any meals and can have 4 shakes a day along broth and sugar free jello. I have decided to post a pic I took today and even though I would never have approved it for publication I want to be honest.

Day 10 of my 14 day pre-op diet. Seems like extreme measures to get healthier but like most others it seems to be the best chance at sustained success. 5'9 and my max weight was 296 a few years ago. I was originally referred for surgery at 278 and crawled up to 296. Slowly leveled back down and was 274 before pre-op diet. Today I'm 260. My diet is the Slimtime shakes and protein bars. 3 shakes and 2 bars per day. 1070 calories I believe. My dream weight is 190 although breaking 200 and maintaining will be life altering. I have two young sons that I had late in life (I'm 45) and need to ensure I'm around as long as possible. Not just around but living a great quality …

I have always been active so this is a slap to the face. I am so excited my first appt with the weight loss doc is Wednesday. I know it's a process but I'm soooooo ready. Hello All ! I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and for the most part I’m doing fine. Does it get better ? Sure I look better on the outside but on the inside I feel terrible. Please tell me it gets better ! P.S. I’ve lost 25 lbs in three weeks ! I’ve lost 50 in total since 1 month pre-op ! Feel free to follow me on IG and i’ll do the same for support ☺️

Hello Everyone, I've been reading a lot on here, but this is my first time writing. I actually don't see a lot of complications on here which is Wonderful! I had Gastric Sleeve Surgery on April 8th and it's been a nightmare ever since then. It started with a horrible pain on my left side.. I thought maybe it was sore from the large incision, but it continued to get worse. I was actually already back at work at this point.. I'm stubborn. I went to have a CT scan and they direct admitted me to the hospital. Originally they thought it was a leak along with a hematoma and infection. A drain was put in and it was really super painful. After a fe…

In 2015, I was at my highest weight ever of 420 pounds. I had high BP, High Cholesterol, Acid Reflux, Sleep Apnea, and had just been told I was diabetic with a BS of 7.5. I didn't have insurance so I searched around and finally found Dr Dirk Rodriguez in Dallas, TX who would do my VSG for 10,000 cash. I had my VSG on 6/23/2015. After a few weeks recovery, I began walking then fast paced walking, I introduced intermittent jogging, then jogging with intermittent sprints, inclines, stairs. I started bicycling. I got to where I was jogging/running 5 miles a day and cycling another 5-10 miles a day, every day. I was going to a gym and doing some strength training, hitting the …

Hey there fellow bariatric pals. I am looking for advice or anyone with similar experience. I have GS March 2014 with top weight of 250 at 5'6" BMI 41. I lost about 55 lbs which my lowest weight has never exceeded about 185. (Goal weight about 165) So, at this time, I have gained back some weight and am at 200 lbs. So about 15 lbs back again. My doctor recommended perhaps having the Duodenal Switch/Revision to continue to take more weight off. But, I really only need to lose about 30-35 lbs. I am afraid that I will get under 160 lbs and be too thin. Has anyone had the DS after the sleeve? Still researching and trying to make the best decisio…

Hi everyone! *waves* First day on the forums, so I thought it would be good to introduce myself. I'm a 36 y/o geeky gal living in Wisconsin with my husband and cats. My husband is also having WLS in a few months, so I am lucky to have some built in support, but still would love to build my support network up a bit more! I've been obese for as much of my life as I can remember. I've also dieted for as much of my life as I can remember. I've tried pretty much every diet and other strategy that I cou…

Hello All, I don’t know if anyone needs this today so I’m posting it in case anyone finds it helpful! I had Gastric sleeve on 7/26/18 . I weighed 276lbs. Post surgery the first six weeks I dropped 35lbs really fast. Things slowed down a little after that because I kept expecting the rate to stay the same. I have hit plateaus and taught myself not to be a slave to the scale. I weigh myself once a week and after a plateau I waited 2 weeks. I also work out, but started slowly. I was walking on a treadmill at an incline for the first few weeks. Then I got bored and started to alternate between using an app with all types of workouts and mixing it with the couch …

Hello all, I am finally joining a weight loos group. After my mother and others from my own support group have told me how I’m here to inspire others and help them along their journey. I have had the Sleeve with Duodenal switch for two years now. February of 2017. The highest I ever saw on a scale was 575. And I’m sure it’s been ten pounds or more over that at some point in my life. And being that Heavy at such a young age (26) and starting my own family. I knew I had to change. But I also knew I couldn’t do this alone. Thanks to Dr. Scott and the surgery I am down 350 pounds have gone from a size 64 pants to a 34. 6xlt shirt to a large. In just 2 years. I wish I…

Hi, I had my RNY done back in 15. I did not adhere to my doctor's suggestion of the South Beach Diet. Reasons shmeezuns. I never lost much weight, 35#'s +/-. I still weigh 35#'s from my surgery weight. I am mobility impaired, I'm scheduled to help that soon, so I can get out and swim at the YMCA. Just joined. Imobility and refusal/fear of following the diet have ruined me. I'm not offering excuses, but I ask two things in all seriousness....is it too late for me to try again, and actually lose 100 to 150 pounds? Is my stomach shot for good?

Hello, my name is Jenny. I am 41 and I'm from Chicago. I have just begun the process of having weight loss surgery. I am terrified but more scared of not doing anything. I am hopeful that losing the weight (approximately 100 lbs, ideally) will help me in all aspects of my life. So far, I have attended the mandatory seminar and have decided on the sleeve option. I have verified my insurance company's requirements. I have submitted my application to the program. And I have been seen by a special psychologist and was approved by her. Next, I have an appointment Thursday morning with the RN in charge of the physical exam. I'd love to hear any tips, tricks, words of advi…
