Hi everyone. I had an appointment with my primary doctor today, and she agreed that bariatric surgery is something I should pursue, especially since insurance will cover almost all of it. She said that she wants me to talk to the doctor about the duodenal switch surgery, as she feels it would benefit me the most. The surgeon's office at my hospital said I have to either go to their seminar or watch their video and do their quizzes online before I can make an appointment. I finished those today and now they are supposed to call within 48 hours to schedule the appointment. I'm excited by nervous at the same time. Vicky

Back in 2012, I got gastric sleeve surgery. Over the course of a year, I lost about 100 pounds. Then I plateaued. Then I slowly started gaining weight back. Recently, my weight has gone back up to what it was on the day of my surgery. ?

My boyfriend of 7 years (who I live with) is not excited about the idea of me thinking of bariatric surgery. I had my first consultation appointment and my bf and I have been talking about what I learned, etc. Now as an upfront, I just turned 40 and have been struggling with my weight since my mid 20s. I am currently at my highest weight of 275 lb (5' 6.5") with a bmi of 43. I have just been prescribed blood pressure meds (my bp has consistently been 177/90 for 6 months!) AND cholesteral meds. I have yoyo dieted for years. YES, I could exercise more (or at all) but I do eat pretty healthy. My bf is a great support in my life and I love him very much. He does NOT want me t…

Weight management has always been an issue my entire life, I have gained and lost over 100 pounds THREE times in the last 15 years, hoping the FORTH time post-surgery will be the last. Whatever diet program, book, shot or pill that has come along in the last 15 years, most likely I have already tried it and unfortunately failed. If your “considering” non-surgical alternatives to weight loss surgery feel free to ask me, most likely I have used it at least once and have accurate records of what was used and what were the results and pros / cons of each. The “pill of the month” currently is Contrave Blue which I have been on since December 2019. I have been avoidin…

I also posted this in my bio... I just needed to vent and blog a bit. Here's my not quite elevator speech. I've always been the big guy. Chris Farley like, but not as funny. Fat and kinda slapstick, and willing to use my body to get a joke. I make the fat jokes on me before others can. That being said, I always said I was "fat and happy". There was a time when I wasn't fat and happy. I was fat. And I didn't like it, But I didn't do anything about it either because I was lazy. Eventually I just accepted myself, and that was good on paper at least. The lab results over years though were telling a different story. High blood pressure. High cholest…

Hello! My name is Judi. I had my surgery December 9, 2019. I am five weeks out and have lost 23 pounds since my surgery. I have lost a total of 68 pounds since starting this process around this time last year. Back in 2017, I decided to quit smoking after a 35 year relationship with cigarettes. As a result, I gained 70 pounds and developed additional health problems. I knew I had to do something. So I got serious about wanting the surgery and doing what I had to in order to get healthy. So here I am, 68 pounds lighter and still continuing on my journey to a healthier life.

Hi All, I am new to this site, so still trying to figure this out. I am 6 days post op, And I basically feel like rubbish. The post op feeling I’ve had was nothing like I would have expected, but then again the surgery I had and planned for was not exactly what I got. My surgeon and I decided the mini gastric bypass was the best route for me as I have chronic Acid reflux. When I was on the operating table the started to make the key hole incisions, after the 2nd one they found a very bad infection on my belly button and infected tissue build up, which lead to open surgery instead of keyhole. They removed a large portion of my stomach too, as they sai…

My name is Yvonne , I'm 29 years old and I'm from Texas. I have one child that is 5 years old going to be 6 soon and shes my only one so far. I been wanting bariatric surgery since I was 16 because weight has always been in control of my life. I previously lost 86lbs on my own but regained it after I got out of the Army. I had the RNY gastric bypass 10/16/19 and I've lost 51lbs since. I feel great other than a occasional cramp every now and then. I dropped in shirt sizes from 3X to 1X and a pant size from a 22 to a 14. I feel much healthier and I wished I had done it sooner! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I have been overweight all of my life. I had suffered with not only the weight but I also have extreme bowing of the legs. It's been a difficult road for me and it still is, however, the road isn't that bad of a climb any longer. I had my surgery on April 3rd, 2019 at a starting weight of somewhere around 350. I now weigh somewhere around 220. I guess since I have been overweight my entire life I'm not a number counter. People ask me all the time about where I am now or what number I came from and I have to be honest I couldn't tell them if I wanted to. I use to weigh at my highest 465+. I made it all the way down to 364 where it wouldn't go anywhere until I was put on th…

Hi all. My name is JoeJohn. I am 280 40 BMI 5.' 7" 57 yrs. old I have already been diagnosed with Diabetes 2, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep-apnea and am taking medication for all, including insulin. My hope is that I can in the near future overcome some of these conditions. I have been told by doctors that they are weight related. My surgery is on Monday, Dec. 25, 2019. So it is now just over 3 days more of clear liquid diet. I don't feel hungry because of all the protein shakes, I guess. But, of course, I did have a dream that I had lost my sober/clean time by sneaking out of my house and chasing a cheeseburger all over the city. I am hoping those kinds of…

I just heard about this forum from my doctor, so I joined and wanted to introduce myself. I had my RNY nine and a half years ago. I heard about regain, but said, "That won't happen to me." For 6 years, I was logging my food, exercising regularly and weighing myself to stay close to my target weight. On July 3, 2016, I went for a run in the morning and got married that afternoon in a fabulous NYC wedding! Then, it all slipped away.... I was on a high! I ate and drank through Europe on an amazing two week honeymoon. Came back to more parties and celebrations and no exercise. Over the last three and a half years, my new normal changed so much - too much happiness? I recently…

Good morning!! I’m very new here, I ran across the site yesterday and thought I’d go ahead and sign up! I’m 29 years old and a mom of 2. I just got married March 29th this year but we’ve been together for 7 years! I started my journey March 22nd, 2019. I went to my initial consult one week before my wedding day lol. I didn’t know if I really wanted to have surgery at that point but the thought had crossed my mind many times so I began the process. I waited until after our honeymoon and for the wedding excitement to calm a bit before starting monthly PCP visits. At my consult in March I was 292lb but at my visit to my pcp in May I was 312lb...wtf lol. H…

I had my surgery on July 22, 2019 starting weight 353lbs as of today December 11, 2019 I'm down 101lbs. I'm so incredibly amazed by this that sometimes I find it impossible to believe especially when I look at myself in the mirror. This surgery has completely changed my life, and better yet the relationship I have with food. There was a time when I ate just for the sake of eating, if I was bored I ate, if I were happy, sad whatever I ate. And let's not leave out the sugary sodas I was literally a sodaholic I drank 6 or 7 sodas daily. And wondered why I couldn't sleep up in down through out the night using the bathroom. Well all that has changed, I have had no sugar other …

Hi everyone, My name is Corne and I am a 40 year old woman from South Africa. I have been struggling with my weight for about 17 years, ever since I started taking antipsychotic medication for my bipolar. - That stuff is WICKET for your weight. Anyway, it never really bothered me too much, until my health started to suffer. I developed asthma and sleep apnoea. Also, in 2017 I landed up in ICU with heart failure. And my back is literally killing me most of the time. I struggle with daily living, as even walking small distances are very difficult. I get out of breath, and I sweat a lot, which is horrible if you are female. I can't wear make up, which I love,…

I am just starting my journey. I haven't made up my mind if I am going to do the surgery. I'm leaning towards the gastric sleeve. This whole journey scares me but I know I have to do something or my health is going to get worst. I know I have to live a healthier lifestyle. I haven't told most of my family and a few friends. I'm a little worried about what they may say. I know I need support to make it through this journey. I know I can do this My next appointment is next week and I will be seeing the nutrition and exercise person. Sent from my LG-US998 using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi there, I’m new this site and WOW! It’s great! It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!! I had my initial consult with my Dr. at the end of August. I just finished my nutritional courses and I’m waiting for my final consult to set for Dec 5th. Then I’ll have my surgery date! Yesss!! It should be sometime in January! I’m having the sleeve. Although I’m extremely excited about this decision and very ready for this change, I am also quite apprehensive at the same time. I have only lost 10lbs so far. I’m trying not to get discouraged with that at this point but rather focus on the positive changes I’ve made up to this point. I just know I can’t do this on my own. …

Hi everyone, I am scheduled for a sleeve revision to sleeve on December 2, 2019. I am 46 years old and have been significantly overweight since I was 20 years when I was pregnant with my daughter. I called this thread 'Weight loss 2.0' because my previous gastric sleeve was December 3, 2013. Looking back, I believed the surgery was the magic fix to all of my problems. At first I had considerable success and dropped 100-120 lbs. Then, life happened - well bad things in life happened. I survived two violent attacks, the first in 2014 which left me with physical challenges, and then in 2015, after a sexual assault, I attempted suicide twice. It took me two years to get t…

Hi everybody. I started the weight loss process... well, probably about 20 years ago when I first joined weight watchers. But I started the surgery process in July. It was a rocky road, staying on diet has never been my strong point. But I lost 40 pounds to prepare for the surgery. I kept telling myself, "Just a few more weeks, just a few more weeks." Until it was time for surgery. I was sleeved one week ago today. When I woke up post-OP in the hospital and I was in pain and confused I cried. I thought, "what the hell have I done to myself?" It took a few days for that feeling of dread to dissipate but doubt keeps welling up. What if I end up hurting myself? What if …

Almost 15 years ago, I was blessed with the gift of new life. A rebirth. I’d be lying if I said it has been all roses because it hasn’t. There will be battles rather you are on the bench or not. Chose wisely how you expend your energies. Use it to fight for your life. It’s been 15 years, I have never regretted having surgery. I wouldn’t change a thing. I have an Instagram account( @200poundsgone) I share other amazing weight loss transformations. Come share your transformation and or help encourage someone, be that light people need to make it out the dark.

I decided to share my story with you all. I'm a sudden cardiac arrest ( also known as sudden cardiac death) survivor. I was at work on October 30th 2015 when I was stricken. I was clinically dead for over 5 minutes. I was revived with the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator). I also suffered from mild cognitive impairment, kidney failure and laryngeal edema (swelling of the larynx) which was so severe an emergency tracheostomy was performed on me. I spent 30 days in the hospital with majority of them in ICU. The total survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest which kills 17 million people every year worldwide is only 1%. The PA said because of my Gerd I am not a canidate for the sleeve. And that I should speak with a surgeon regarding this issue. HI everyone! I started my journey in May of 2016 when I went to my family doctor frustrated with my lymphedema issues in my lower ;egs and chronic back pain. I had been to the lymphedema clinic off and on over the past 6 years and was still doing leg compression machine twice daily. In between treatments, my legs swelled bad and hurt to walk. He basically said nothing more could be done. He asked if I had thought about weight loss surgery. I had never really studying up on it and didn't know much about it. He brought in his critical care case manager nurse to talk further about it. After our talk, I agreed for her to schedule me an appointment with the weight loss clinic …

So 4-1/2 years ago, I had the sleeve. Within 3 months, I dropped 60 of the 100 pounds I wanted to lose. I was off all blood pressure meds (and still am). Within the year following my sleeve, I developed abdominal hernias that my bariatric surgeon repaired. At that point, my weight loss stopped and I never reached "goal". Also at the time, I was working a 12 hour, physically demanding (not with heavy lifting but with a lot of walking), night shift 7p-730a which was one of my first saboteurs to my weight loss success -- I wasn't getting enough sleep. I also didn't exercise at all because of my physically demanding job. I decided to leave my night shift job, which I…

Hello you all! I see a few faces out there that I knew many years ago here. I used to be a host, and even got an award for most followed post! Its been a while. I first joined this forum in 2010. My pic shows me with red hair… its white now! I had a VSG in January of 2011. I entered this plan as a vegetarian, and maintained that status until about a year ago when I upped my game to Vegan eating (Did you know you can drink Coke and eat Oreos and still be vegan?). 7 weeks ago I upped it again and I follow a Whole Food Plant Based diet. It is also vegan eating, but cuts out not only meat and dairy, but any highly refined product including oils, refined sugar, white flour and…

Well, that was a horrendous experience. BUT, all is well now. My gastric sleeve was performed on August 12th 2019. All the pre-op stuff was fine and I was excited and looking forward to a quick exit on day 2. I notice that most of you are in the USA, which I am not so there are a few things we do differently. My blood's were all good and the day before my op I just had to ring the private hospital I was going to, to check on what time my admission was on the Monday. I was first on the list for the day so was taken to theatre at 0830am. I hopped onto the operating table myself, which was a bit weird, but I know some places do it this way. I was just …

My names Don Moe, and I'm a recovering food addict. I've been addicted to sugar and carbs my entire life. Like most, I've dieted and exercised and had a lot of success over the years, but it never lasted and the weight always came back and then some. For me, bariatric surgery saved my life. It was have surgery or get ready to live life as a 500 lb male. It was a last ditch effort to save me. I was on a collision course with death, one bite at a time. Consuming well north of 4500 calories a day I ate whatever I wanted when I wanted. My life, like my weight, was completely out of control. My surgeon told me... Reading everyone’s story on here is so inspiring and insightful on this journey of weight loss surgery that I figured I would share and track mine as well. It will be nice to hopefully look back and read this a year from now anyway after being successful with my gastric sleeve surgery...fingers crossed! All up to that dang insurance approval! I was always chubby as a kid and grew up in a big Italian family where portion sizes weren’t a thing and life revolves around food. For most of high school I was overweight... except junior year when…
