When were you allowed to have apples or peaches? I'm 6 weeks post OP. They allow me to have fresh fruits and veggies at 6 weeks but I wanna make sure I won't get sick! How were your experiences? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I’m truly disappointed in my lack of lost. Been stalled for 11 days now. I’m getting in at least 50-60 ozs of water and 60 grams of Protein. It appears I’ve lost some inches but not much. Was really looking forward to a little reward after what I’ve been through. Feeling like the most unluckiest girl ever.

Hey all! So I’m POD #7 & I’m starting to get hungry. Not the pains or anything, but I just feel the need to “crunch & munch” on something! I’ve tried ice cubes, but eh. Any suggestions?

Is anyone feeling like they made the worst decision ever by getting this surgery. I hate it right now honestly ? 1 week post op I don't want to eat or drink anything. I literally have to force myself which I usually just end up not eating or drinking at all. I hate the feeling of a queezy stomach and that's all food or drink gives me as well as terrible gas pain. I'm starting to feel weak because I haven't been able to eat or drink but idk. I wish I never had it. I would kill to be able to just eat salad and baked chicken and healthier foods instead of having this surgery. I don't know why I didn't just eat healthy before then I wouldn't have to go threw any of this ??♀️…

Yeah, I'm asking about that awful little four letter word, Or rather initialism. So, I have never had any history of reflux. I can count on two fingers the number of times I've experienced heartburn in my life. This was part of the reason I decided on VSG for my revision. When I had my endoscopy prior to surgery, my doctor said there were some minor signs of inflammation that he attributed to a very minor hernia brought on by my band having slipped. The tissue sample analysis likewise supported that the inflammation and damage was very minor. My doctor didn't find it to be anything of concern and thus we went forward with VSG and fixing the minor hernia as part…

Upon the doctors recommendation, I have been taking two 306mg ferrous gluconate pills twice a day and it's making me feel sick. I was told to take it three times a day but I can not handle being this nauseated in the middle of the day and while I am in public. It's the worst when I take it on an empty stomach but taking it with some food doesn't help either. Is anyone else experiencing this?? Is there anything that helps get rid of the nausea??

Woot woot! So proud of myself for getting through the surgery! This was actually my first. Here are some things that I have noticed, so tell me if you’ve experienced the. As tell! 1) My stomach growls! Like a lot. It kind of sounds like hunger growling, but I’m not hungry. Maybe it’s just my body saying “thank you for finally doing something about this weight”. But either way, those digestive sounds are active and that’s a very good sign!! 2a) The pain is... different. I’ve always been a “stomach sleeper”, but currently doing so is almost unbearable. So I’ve been forced to sleep on my back. That, combined with the ferocious gas that I still have is like a personal…

I know it’s frowned upon because of the gas issue, is there any other reasons you know of that it isn’t okay to chew sugar free gum? I was avid gum chewer as a kid and it helped with anxiety and stress and kept me from grunting my teeth and am wondering... what is everyone’s experience with it?

I had some mild diarrhea and GI distress in my pre-op diet including whey protein, but street surgery the whey protein and whey protein isolate absolutely killed me; super painful diarrhea. I started using plant based and I feel much better. My questions are, one, can anyone recommend a whey alternative that isn’t gross? Two, is there anyone who can tolerate Genepro but not other whey protein? I’ve heard so many people rave about the Genepro in terms of taste, digestion and how readily it dissolves but I don’t want to buy it if it’s just going to make me sick!

Hey everyone! I start the mushy food stage next Tuesday and also the no water before, during and after food (30-30-30 rule). This seems like a lot to remember since I’m so used to having liquids right now. Anyone have challenges with this? Figured I would ask before I got started. Thanks!

Hello! This may be a dumb question but my nutritionist is not too familiar with the korean cuisine so she straight up said it all depends on the ingredients and left me with the doubt. So I am a very big fan of korean food, in fact, pre-op all my diet was korean based and I lost a whooping 22 pounds. However, it is a little spicy (depending on how it's made) and I have heard mixed conversations about spicy food post op. I am nearing a month after my surgery, currently entering puree stage, next week will be salads and fish along with purees, and then after that it's the complete solids stage. There are three foods that I mainly love from korean cuisine: Tteokbo…

hello, I am 34 years old. this july will mark 8 years since i got the gastric sleeve surgery. i still always watch my carbs and try to maintain under 30 carbs. my lowest weight i got to was 180. currently at 210 lbs right now. i was at 255 lbs when i had the surgery. i have noticed my weight start to creep up, my clothes start to fit tighter. i did let go of the protein for a while last year and just maintained lower carbs. i admit i fell off. for a couple months now i have increased my protein intake and still maintaining a lower carb count. i have not had a carbonated beverage since i had the surgery. i do not take any medicine except for blood pressure medicine which i…

So I've been consistently moving the scale everyday. I'm on day 20 and went from 249 surgery date to 228.2. Thing is, I've been that weight for the last four days. How long does it last? I'm sooo close to weighing less than my husband, I need 5 more pounds!

4 days post-op I have had some pain from day 1 post-op, in the left side of my belly (where I have more scars). I can't understand if it's just flatulence or internal, but it does make me stop moving from time to time. Anyone who has felt the same? Blessings to all[emoji120][emoji93]

So I recently had gastric bypass and I’m recovering well. I haven’t been nauseous at all, one of the lucky ones. I haven’t felt hungry, but also haven’t felt full (still on liquids). But, I still have the drive to eat. I don’t think it’s necessarily emotional eating, because I’m feeling pretty stable and good right now. I just like food, and enjoy eating. It’s almost like I lost a hobby. I haven’t given in or anything, and it’s really not that bad. I’m trying to focus on my other interests, and I’m guessing that this will level out over time. But I’m curious, anyone else deal with something like this? Any tips?

I'm scheduled for VSG next week and I'm trying to figure out how to prepare for what to wear after surgery. When I first saw a weight loss doctor on 2/5 of this year, I was 247. As of today, I'm 225, but all my clothes still fit - albeit a little loose. With quick, major weight loss expected, plus the change of seasons coming up, I don't know how to prepare wardrobe-wise. Any tips? I haven't worn anything smaller than an XXL (sometimes XL if it runs big) in years, so I have no clue what to buy!

Hello all. Simple question but I can't seem to find it with keywords: As the weight loss continues and let's say, more into the maintenance phase-do you always have to extend your meal to 30-45 mins? I can see myself still taking smaller bites and chewing thoroughly, but not so much that I'm staring at my food for half an hour. (I actually find this length of time to cause me to obsess over food more so than if I was just mindfully chewing.)

The thought of more protein shakes make me nauseous. At this point I cant stand anything with a sweet taste. My stomach really cramps at night. I have had problems w constipation but now take miralax. I had gone to the er for fluids last week also. I'm really trying not to regret this surgery but I'm sick of feeling like this!!! I'm 6 months post sleeve and haven't lost in 3 weeks. Diet good, carbs are low, less than 50 net per day..usually around 30. I've been fluctuating the same 3 lbs for almost a month. Some say honeymoon ends at 6 months, others say 1 year. I still have 50-60lbs to go to hit goal...and even then, I'll still be considered overweight according to BMI. I am SCARED!

Has anyone been scheduled for August? Some of my appointments were Telemed, during the Covid-19 shut down, so I was starting to doubt that my surgery was going to happen. Things are moving forward. I have not gotten an official date, but last week had a Sleep Apea test. The August surgery was noted in my referral, and since then in another appointment. It seems like a long way off, but time has a way of going quickly, especially when you have things to do.

Day 5 Post Op and all is well. Getting pretty bored with the full liquid diet and wondering what the thoughts were on spicing things up a bit. Seems like Cream of Chicken would convert easily to Cream of Chicken TACO. Just wondering has anyones surgeon mentioned how spice might not be good for the staple line? Best Kevin

Trying to do stage 3 is just as painful. I'm only able to take in one bottle of water a day. I try to do more but it's just so painful. I'm doing about 1 to maybe 2 ounces an hour. I feel like I can't do anymore then the 2 ounces. I have absolutely no energy to even brush my hair. I force myself to walk around my house and to take a night time walk. Every time I stand from a sitting position I feel extremely dizzy and I am going to pass out. I'm sure this may seem all normal and I just need more time, and I know this is new to my body, but i just don't feel right. I don't think my stomach can hold the 4 ounces that I need. I sleep most of the morning to just get thru the…

12 days post op. Was going mental on the liquid diet plan my dr put me on. Noticed my wife’s post op plan from a different doctor had some significant differences.... so I googled a bunch of post op diet plans and hit the personal jackpot with the Mayo Clinic... puréed egg salad allowed... two small spoonfuls filled me up (first time I’ve felt full) and for the first time in since preop felt normal again.. stayed full feeling for well over an hour. it’s not like I picked one from Dr. Nick, so I don’t feel too cheaty. This was yesterday and today I’m back to liquids only but it really did a good job resetting myself mentally. No idea why I’m sharing this.....

Was encouraging to realize despite my slow weight loss, I am on target. I weighed 211 on day of surgery. I am 8 weeks postop and my weight today is 190.2 pounds. Those weighing 200 pounds on day of sugery weighed 184 on average at 3 months. So I will quite likely to weigh below 184 (6 pounds to go) at 3 months. I need to remember that those much heavier at time of surgery show faster weight loss in the first 3 months. So I am encouraged. Hope some of you find this table helpful.

Hello . I had my lap band removed because I seem to have loss extremely too much weight to to point I looked very sick . No sign of a woman . Just straight up and down. My removal was July 28, 2020. Today the swelling is gone down a little but I have a terrible knot maybe the size of an orange on my left side under my breast that hurts tremendously. I have put ice on it it’s not going down at all. It’s where the port was. It’s looks like I’m about 4 months pregnant in that area only. I really hate I banded myself in the first place . It feels as if it’s still inside even when I only eat yogurt . It’s having a bad time passing through. It has been about 2 or 3 weeks. I can…

I’ll start by saying my nutritional support through my surgeon is somewhat lacking, but I feel ok with my progress and have really dug into research on my own. I’m almost 6 weeks post op, and took a punishing spinning class this morning. It felt great. (Cleared for it by my surgeon!) Apple Watch isn’t totally reliable, but it says I burned around 600 calories. Now I don’t know how to eat the rest of the day. I’ve only eaten when legitimately hungry this afternoon, still focusing on protein and veggies. Can anyone else who does heavy exercise advise me on how and if you adjust calories?

I am still in week one clear fluids following VSG last Thursday. I am easily getting at least 70 oz of fluids and 70 g Protein. But the only carbs I get are 5 calorie Jello. So at the end of the day all my calories are from protein. Each gram of protein is 4 calories. So 4x70=280 calories total for day. I have yet to get 300 calories. Is this typical? I was so used to 800-1200 calories per day. Is that why we lose so much weight first few weeks after surgery?

My bariatric center doesn't give any narcotics to control pain immediate postop. They use combination of acetaminophen and Celebrex. I can't take Celebrex because previous reaction with sky high blood pressure (220/120). So not sure what they will provide for immediate postop pain. Hoping I will have a chance to talk with surgeon before surgery. Don't think acetaminophen will be enough after having 75% of stomach removed.

Despite all best plannings, my BiPAP macine was not available for me in PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit). I discussed my severe obstructive sleep apnea with anesthesiologist, surgeon and preop nurse. We all agreed that I needed to have my BiPAP on immediately after operating room. I even took it out of case and totally assembled it so all they needed to do is put on my mask. Didn't go as planned. When I arrived to PACU from operating room I was having difficulty breathing and immediately said, "I need my BiPAP." I was told it had been sent with all my other belongings to my hospital room. I really struggled to breathe. Coughed frequently to open airway and get a gasp of…

I am prepping some 2 ounce containers for my post-op clear liquids phase. I grew tired of messing with Jello and found that I could dissolve a half scoop of Genepro in a small amount of chicken broth. The total slurry mix fits within the 2 ounce container. That would give me 15 grams of protein per serving, which is WAY more than I doctor up with my Jello attempts. Perhaps a chemist could do better, but I am done. Any reason not to do this? I have 2 containers chilling in the refrigerator now as a test run. I assume it will separate a bit, but I could just shake it. I really like the taste of the broth and don't expect the Genepro to mess with the flavor, but …

I'm just about 6 months post op and am doing fantastic- I'm losing weight steadily (almost 90lbs!!), eating well, and feeling better than I have in ages. However, I live in a very small town, leaving me with very limited options. My partners like to go out to eat with friends normally once a week, but with there only being fast food joints in this town (i.e. unhealthy fried stuff), I have been having to sit at the table while they eat with only a glass of water or just completely forgo going along. It's been really isolating and making me feel super left out. They have started to eat at home more so we can all eat together, but I never realized how social food was …

Hi, just wondered where else can I buy the Vitamin patches? I've ordered through Bariatric pal on my last 2 orders, I usually get the Sleeve Vitamin Patch Pack 3 by PatchAid, but now they have been out of stock and don't know when they will be in. Even though I was set up on a automatic delivery. Crazy to me. So hoping I could find a back up brand. Thanks

I am wondering what the average amount of time that people took off from work for recuperation following sleeve surgery. I am having the surgery on a Thursday, and was hoping to go back to work on the Monday 10 days following. Is that unrealistic?? I work at a job where I’m sitting all day, but it’s very busy and stressful. The title was supposed to say “how long out of work.” I am new to this site and I can’t figure out how to edit the subject line.
