I drink water, decaf coffee right now since I can’t have caffeine yet, and crystal light. That is all I’ve been drinking, and that is fine, but are there any drinks that you would tell a person just starting on their post op journey to check out? I was never a soda drinker, but I loved juice-orange and cran mix varieties and obviously those are off the list so I’m just seeing as my journey progresses what else I should take a look at. Thanks for any and all suggestions:)

Hey guys and gals, I have my vsg this past Tuesday. I’ve been in severe pain (8 on a 10) since surgery. If it’s not the gas pains still killing me (walking helps, but it’s still there) than the incisions (7 made) and muscle soreness are doing it. The doctor gave me oxycodone at home, which is helping minimal. Did anyone else vomit blood the night after surgery? I did, but my doctor said it was not unusual. Anyone else feel this amount of pain? If you did, when did it go away? Any other tips? Thank you

Hello everyone, I am 2 weeks post-op for my bypass. I have lost about 30 pounds since my pre-op diet and am feeling really good right now. I am much more comfortable in my own body from just 30 pounds! Only 150 more to go! ?? I had nausea the first day after the operation, but none since. I did have excess gas and some diarrhea (no pain involved) but GasX and Benefiber have helped with that. I have some pain on my lower right side where the main incision was which they said was normal. That pain has gotten a lot better. Going to see my surgeon tomorrow and pick up the vitamins. I will start pureed today with cottage cheese. Has anyone heard "Anything i…

Dear friends, I had GS one year ago, absolutely no complications and no side conditions, this year has been amazing, I look and I feel great. 3 weeks ago I started feeling very bloated, with headaches and general weakness... I did a covid test then my blood test as well as salmonella, e coli and parasites, everything came clean. I take probiotics and digestive enzymes, yet my stomach issues are still persisting. I get stomach ache after I eat, I get bloated, and my tummy started making some weird loud noises. I have to mention that fact that one month ago I did, out of curiosity (never had any issues with any foods), the food intolerances tests and I came out qu…

Not sure if it’s the surgery , time of year with holidays or COVID-19 . I’m angry and just a stewing pot ready to boil over. I am passive aggressive with my husband, and short with the kids. I’m overwhelmed by the anger, I spent hours away from home with the kids last night because I didn’t want to see my husband. The kids had a great time, and I was relaxed. MAybe the break from the daily Routine was what I needed. I haven’t been sleeping well, And I work full time, we are short staffed, the weather has been cold so I’m not out walking as much as I should. he is a stay at home dad and doesn’t socialize with people beside me and a few others. I try guideline him …

Can I smoke post-op? I’ve been an active marijuana user for quite some time now. I mainly use oils in a vape pen for discreetness and rarely will smoke it in a herbal form. I’ve actually replaced 2 of my antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication with marijuana and I had great results. I know smoking tobacco before surgery is a no go. I don’t smoke cigarettes and I stopped smoking my cannabis oil during my pre-op stage. I am one week post-op and I do have minimal pain and I usually use the oil to sleep or get rid of headaches and back pain. I was prescribed Norcos and I do not like the way it makes me feel and it’s very addictive so it would be so much better for me if …

So after a great first week, I'm having a bad morning. Woke up and took my chewable B complex and drank about a half a protein shake over forty minutes or so. I began to feel like the fluid wasn't moving through my sleeve. Had lots of burps and the saliva spit up thing twice. Took about ninety minutes to calm down. Back to sipping water but am scared to go back to the shake. Stricture?

So I don’t know if this is allowed? I just signed up reading stuff on the forums. I had surgery on the 5th (a week ago) and ever since I have been having a dark blood discharge with a really new funk smell (horrible!). I have PCOS and “abnormal bleeding” that I control with the medication megase/ megesterol. It’s no longer controlling the bleeding. does anyone know what this might be? Or what to do about it? Anything???

Please give me yummy mushy food ideas! I am three weeks out and on soft foods only and ALL I want to eat is some kind of carbs and crackers and REAL FOOD!!! What are you guys eating that is making you feel like you’re eating real food? I’ve made chicken meatballs and had turkey burgers and I’m just going crazy. Trying so hard to make this work, but I’m supposed to be on soft foods only for three months and I have no idea how I am going to go three months without a cracker or something.

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced fear of eating once transitioning back to purées and soft foods. I’m starting to become very anxious about everything that I’m putting in my mouth. I think part of what triggered this was my hitting a bit of a stall, which was pointed out to me on another thread. So far, it seems that my stall lasted only a couple of days- but that might be because I’ve not been eating enough. I’m panicking and obsessing if I go over 300-400 calories a day. Right now, I’m full of anxiety because today I ate PB2, hummus, mashed banana, yogurt, and crushed protein cereal, and all of that totals 425 calories. I don’t want to add more. I’m certain …

Hello n so I am about 5 weeks out from surgery and currently not losing any weight. Been stuck at same weight since my two week follow up appointment. Am I doing something wrong? Is this normal? I started surgery at 240 pounds. I’m now down to 232 but it has been at a complete stand still. Any tips on how to fix this I’m working out about 2 to 3 times a night too. So I’m really disappointed.

Hi all, excited to be here. So -- surgery is in one week -- NOV 23rd -- and I have been wondering what the recovery process is like for those who live solo or in solo "bubbles" (COVID distancing in place). The only person who comes to my apartment is a PSW once every two weeks to help with laundry, vacuuming, etc (things I could not entirely manage on my own because of other pre-existing health issues like fibromyalgia). I asked the hospital social worker if I could get an increase in hours for the few weeks post surgery and she said no. Am interested to hear what the immediate post-surgery experience is like. Will I be okay while living alone? I expect some p…

Hi - I am 6 days post op. I am in phase 2 of eating where i am ok to eat soups, jello, yogurt, etc.. but I'm supposed to be getting 64g of protein per day. My problem is that i can't tolerate any sugar substitutes. I am really struggling with things i can eat (drink) that are high in protein but don't have any fake sugar substitutes. I have tried the GenePro tasteless protein powder as well and couldn't keep that down either. Does anyone have any other suggestions of foods/drinks to try that do not have sugar substitutes but are high in protein? There is only so much plain yogurt, tea, broth etc... i can take in and am no where near the protein goal with those …

I had my gastric sleeve surgery this past Wednesday and ever since, I have had such a hard time urinating. I feel like I have to go, but once I sit down on the toilet, it takes a lot of mental effort to get it going. And I never feel like I'm emptying my bladder. I read online that it could have something to do with anesthesia. If you had this issue, how long did it take to go back to normal?

I moved up from liquids to purées on Friday. On liquids, I lost 11 lbs. But ever since I started purées I’ve gone up 1 lb. and it hasn’t gone back down. On Friday, all I ate all day was a quarter of an avocado and a quarter cup of oatmeal with protein powder mixed in. Yesterday, all I ate was 2 tbsp. hummus, 1 Greek yogurt cup, and 2 tbsp. PB2. Today it’s been pretty much the same: a quarter cup of oatmeal, 2 tbsp. hummus, and 2 tbsp. PB2. How is it that I’ve stopped losing weight on this little food? I just don’t see how it’s possible. I can understand that on the first day maybe my body just decided to hang tightly onto every calorie because it’s been starving, but I ha…

Hello JennyH . I had my surgery 11/4/20 . My covey was pretty smooth I didn’t have much pain afterwards . And no problem with gas . But I am now experiencing pains in my legs. I went to my one week appointment. I’m down 15 pds But my energy level is low . Due to me not being able to get more then 15 ounces of water in and just 11oz of the protein ( 30gms ) . 2 days after I went to the ER because of the pain . My hydration is fine . And I don’t have any blood clot . Has anyone else been experiencing leg pains ?

I had my surgery on 11/9. It was supposed to be a bypass but a lower hernia and scar tissue in my abdomen caused it to become a sleeve. Which is fine, but it wasn’t what I expected. I also had another hernia, hiatal, that he repaired. My doctor is hoping with that repair my horrible indigestion will be long gone and the sleeve will be a good fit, but if not he has already said he would revise it If I got the other hernia repaired first. My doctor is great, I’m not upset with him, but somehow having the plan changed makes me feel like I’m behind. I lost 20 pounds over 2 weeks on the pre-op diet, but when I finally weighed myself today, well I’m at the same weight I was …

This was a topic we didn’t talk a lot about at my appointments, but I became curious last night. I’m only 5 days post op, and last night I woke up very cold and chilled, no fever, and had been having really vivid dreams that I could remember well. The only other time I can recall this onslaught of chills and shivering and vivid dreaming was after my pregnancies when your are going through such big hormonal changes and dumping. I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this...I also understand it could have zero to do with the surgery.

Hello everyone. On Wednesday, April 13th, I will be four weeks or one month post-op. I am a little shocked that as of today I have only lost 20 lbs. I hear about people losing thirty or fourty the first month and I can't believe that I'm stuck at 20. This makes me very sad, depressed, and dissapointed. I have 110 to lose (now 90) and hope that this is not a very slow process. A few things may be hindering my weight loss: now that I'm on mushy Protein type foods, I am only just now getting protein into my diet. I drink a lot throughout the day but it probably is not 64oz. I also decided during these four weeks to take myself off of my antidepressant that I've been on f…

I'm feeling hungry and I think it's because I'm a little bored. I have noticed, at the end of the night, the roof of my mouth is raw. I don't know if it's from all of the sugar-free things I've been trying/drinking. I'm on the smooth soup stage, clear liquids, full protein drinks. Could I have a scope of peanut butter? Other than my mouth issue, I feel great.

I’m 3 months out VSG and few weeks ago I was taking antibiotics, which the pharmacist said I didn’t need to take food so I didn’t the whole time, and few days after taking the antibiotics I was getting very nauseous out of no were and I didn’t eat and barely drank water for about 4 days, then tried to take down some simple foods but of course no appetite. They gave me zofran that doesn’t work. I tried antacids, gasx, Pepto-Bismol, and anything for nausea you can think of and still doesn’t work. I eventually had to go to the hospital from dehydration but they did tests and ct scans and found nothing. No one seems to know what’s wrong with me and it’s so uncomfortable becau…

This term has never been brought up at any of my appointments. I can try to define it in my head, but I’d love to hear the actual verbiage to define it. I had my surgery Monday, I was switched from bypass to sleeve because of some scar tissue and a hernia near my c section scars, my doc also fixed a hiatal hernia, so I had a lot going on in there, lol. So maybe it will be brought up at my 1 week appointment, but right now I am still being educated:)

Hi! I’m new here. I had my RNY on 10/21/20 and I’m doing okay for the most part however, there are quite a few vitamins that I have to take that are chewable/sublingual ONLY for the first 3 months. I’ve developed a conditioned response to chewables and sublinguals over the years and I can’t get them down or if I do, they’re coming right back up. I’m concerned about getting the nutrients I need if I continue to throw them up. Any suggestions on how I can overcome this? I don’t want to mess this up. Thank you.

Hi everyone! Can anyone share with me what B-Complex vitamin you chose to use after your surgery? My surgery is scheduled for November 23rd and I am working on getting things together. I did buy SOLARAY chewable B-Complex. It has 7.5 mg of Thiamine, which post surgery requires 12 mg. This means I would have to take 2 of them per day to get the required amount of Thiamine. Is there a vitamin out there that has the required amount of Thiamine (12mg) in one serving? If so, what kind is it and where did you get it? TIA

Came home today from being readmitted to the hospital via the ER and curious if these issues have happened to many on this Forum. I had uncontrollable bloody/watery leaking from my drain which was eventually stopped by meds after ensuring the surgery stapling hadn't been compromised. Then, a short time after being readmitted, I had watery, bloody stools- and I don't mean a little bloody- A Lot! Surgeon on staff with my Surgeon said it was blood pooled in the intestines and would stop in a day or two. The Nurses said they'd not seen so much coming out of a drain before but my hemoglobin count is fine. Anyone with a similar situation and if so, what was the explanation gi…
