HI, I don't know what I was thinking. I felt good? Anyway, a couple of days ago I walked over a mile 3 days in a row and walked as fast and hard as I could. That was a huge mistake. I wasn't thinking about my stomach bouncing around and not only did my Dr, do my gastric bypass he did 5hrs worth of work on my messed up intestines. I didn't do anything the past 2 days I was hurting so bad, not to mention yesterday I ran a fever all day that didn't get above 100.4. I was going to call my Dr today, but the fever is gone, so that is a good sign. However, not only am I so sore, I have lost my apatite, not my taste. Also, I hadn't had any problem with heartburn, but tod…

Hello, New to the forum ad this is my first post. Sorry its so long but I need some help from ppl who have already had the Gastric Sleeve. As of today I am 3 & a 1/2 weeks post op. I had my first follow up with the Dr. 2 weeks ago and will have the second follow up next week. I am past the clear liquid & full liquid phases and stated to move to more solid food. Here's my problem my Dr says I am progressing normally but I'm not sure. I would get heartburn occasionally prior to surgery but a few tums would take care of it. I am taking the vitamins and gerd medicine as directed with no issues. Since the first day of surgery I could feel …

I'm 12 days post op & I think I may have pulled a muscle in my left side near my incision. I over did it yesterday cleaning house & have noticed tenderness when I cough or turn a certain way. Now everytime I twist or bend or use that muscle I have pain. I feel like its a pulled muscle. Anyone else had a similar issue? What can be done for it?

Hello! I'm almost 3 weeks post-op. My surgeon's diet plan went from 2 weeks full liquids right to soft foods (and introducing any new foods at my comfort level). Things have been going well in this stage. I'm weighing my portions, taking my 30 minutes to eat, chewing to applesauce consistency, waiting between bites, no fluids before/during/after meals. However, I often find that after I finish my meal (I do not finish my full portion) I'm left with the feeling of my food sitting in my throat. Just like it's pooled there waiting for it's turn to go into my pouch. It generally passes within 20 minutes or so, but I am wondering if this means I am eating too much . I a…

Hello! I was wondering about drains after surgery. It seems like some have them and some don’t, but they don’t sound like a lot of fun. Any suggestions, tips, etc...? Anyone didn’t have one and had complications because of it? Honestly, the IV and the drain is making me more nervous than the rest of it.

I am 2 weeks post op and my doctor recommended to wear a girdle to help with the incision. Does anyone have any recommendations? If you wear or tried a girdle, how did it help you? I am planning on wearing one even after the incision have healed. So I wanted to know the benefits for the long run.

Hi! I think I’m approaching maintenance. 11 months out from modified DS surgery. Not sure how I feel about that. My BMI is 28 down from 51. I’m wearing a size 6 which I can barely get my head around. I feel great but DONE losing weight? Happy with my weight? This is a new concept for me and I’m petrified I’m going to blow it. Any advise from seasoned maintenance people? I’m so scared I’m going to put it back on and so hard on myself for every food choice I make or non movement on the scale. TIA!

On December 21st I had gastric bypass and my gallbladder removed during the same surgery. My gastric bypass was no issues at all. I had multiple complications with my gallbladder removal and was in the hospital for 14 nights. I was wondering if anyone else had done this and if so how was there outcome?

I'm about 7 days post op and I'm finding it troubling to drink them. First few days was fine but now I can only stomach 2 to 4 oz a day. It's like after I drink it this taste floods my mouth and makes my stomach turn. I don't physically want to vomit but the taste makes me ill. It's as if drinking them now on an empty stomach makes me not want them at all. I have an appointment next Friday, any tips or suggestions? I feel like a failure just starting out

Hello, I also posted this on the sleeve page, FYI. I have been a lurker here for awhile and appreciate everyone's insight. I had VSG surgery on 1-19-21, so 9 days ago. Things have been going really well for the most part. I'm getting over 100 ounces of hydration daily and 60-75 g of protein. Yesterday afternoon I started not feeling great. Run down, tired, a little light headed. Today I've fell bad pretty much all day, and I noticed that my left shoulder has started to hurt. I did not have any of that pain right after surgery, which I know is common. I have low grade fever and my stomach feels sick. I have taken Zofran and it hasn't helped much. I'm curious…

Hi, I am 10 weeks post-op for gastric bypass; performed on November 9, 2020. I have lost a total of 47 lbs. I have a few concerns. For the past two weeks I haven't been able to eat anything without being in excruciating pain. They also removed a Hiatal hernia during my surgery. I never knew I had a hernia, it didn't bother me, and now I'm really hurting. I usually end up making myself vomit when I eat something just to alleviate the pain. My concerns are, am I losing weight because of the surgery, or because I'm unable to eat, or drink. I threw up just after drinking a protein shake and was in pain for hours. I'm ok as long as I don't eat anything, but I don't want to be…

I have already talked to my doctor and have taken his advice but i'm still having trouble and i'm looking for help from those who have had surgery. My surgery was on December 22, 2020. I'm in a puree stage, but i'm having several issues. I'm having trouble with a few things. Anytime i have anything thicker than soup i feel sick or like i'm choking and this can last for hours afterwards. i have tried thinning my purees out and slowing my eating down even more but still get that feeling and need help on how to stop that feeling. I'm also struggling to get my water and protein goals met for the day and need some tips on how to increase them. Any help would …

Hi Everyone, I'm 3 days post-op and it's been really rough so far. I've been throwing up constantly. And can't seem to keep anything down. I hate to say it but I'm having regrets about getting this surgery done. It also seems like my family doesn't support me all I've been hearing from them is how stupid my choice of going through with it was. Did anyone else feel this way after?

Hi everyone, I really need some advice from people with similar situations. I had my surgery on Nov. 17. At first I was doing well, and I went home. Then I could barely keep anything down, not even water. I went back to ER for dehydration and then was again sent home. I still was feeling extreme nausea. Then a few days later I went right back. The doctors kept telling me I was not tolerating the VSG surgery and that I should consider a Bypass. I do not want a bypass and that got me depressed. They told me not everyone can tolerate a VSG. Which makes no sense because there are complications with the Bypass as well. Anyways then ended up doing a endoscopy and found a s…

I am just under two weeks post gastric sleeve. I am 20 pounds down from January 1, when I started the pre-op diet. However, most of the weight I’ve lost was pre-op. I’ve lost maybe 7-8 pounds in the two weeks since the surgery. Is this normal? I need to stop weighing myself every day. I’m following the diet, but I just had an idea that I should have been losing more by now. I have heard mixed things. Probably shouldn’t be comparing. Any thoughts/input would be helpful. Trying to stay as motivated as possible. Thanks!!

I made the decision to not share that I was having surgery with anyone outside of my immediate family. I've lost a ton of weight and people are asking "WOW! How much have you lost?" I sort of want to swerve/avoid the question, but I'm not sure how to... Do I lie and minimize how much weight I've lost? Do I avoid answering all together? What do you do?

Anyone get pregnant after surgery? I can’t decide if I should wait until after I’m done having kids to get my surgery or not. If I don’t wait my pregnancies will be easier and I’ll be able to keep up with my kids better. But I’m likely to gain weight back when I do get pregnant. If I wait until after my pregnancies to get surgery I won’t have to worry about gaining all the weight back when I’m pregnant. Any stories or advice?

Hi, there Im 5 months post surgery, Im down 90 pounds or so. and this weekend my husband lovingly told me he thinks I'm trying to make him fat. I am obsessed with watching others enjoy food. I just want to smell the food. and watch them eat it. I take my kids to mcdonalds to smell the french fries. Any one else obsess about watching others are eating, or do loads of cooking for your can see the joy in peoples faces when they eat. I know this a is a destructive habit. Any wisdom, thanks

Good morning all, My last post (about a month ago) was about hair loss, a major stall, and some female issues. A month later, and nothing has changed, except maybe getting worse. The female issues are *hopefully* being addressed at an appointment next week, though I'm not sure what will happen. I'm still stuck at 181 and have been for almost two months. At one point, I got down to 178 for a few days, but I suddenly shot back up to 184 and have been bouncing between 180-183 forever now. It's SO depressing! My hair is falling out at a rapid pace. I know this is a common side effect, but I wasn't prepared for it to be this bad. I literally now have small, nearly bald pa…

I had my surgery on the 19th and after my surgery, my surgeon pointed out that I was beginning to have some scarring on my liver. Which, my liver enzymes weren't crazy elevated. I felt embarrassed and worried because I want to improve my health greatly and I worry that this might put me back.. anyone else with this issue? I'm only 26, so this terrifies me.

My gastric sleeve surgery journey has been far from easy. Since having surgery on December 14th , I contracted COVID-19 which made me very sick for a week. At two weeks post op I began to experience chronic nausea and vomiting endlessly day and night. It was so severe to I could not drink anything regardless of its contents or temperature. Simply being awake would evoke a violent episode of vomiting which turned into stomach acid as I was unable to consume liquids. This episode lasted for 2 weeks before I had to go to the hospital as I was deteriorating . I was admitted into the hospital for 7 days and was also diagnosed with acute pancreatitis along with my Covid-19 posi…

Okay...I’m sure there are other amateur bakers/chefs and professionals out there too, who have had WLS. I am one month post op and have began to bake again. I’m just a home baker that makes sweet treats for friends, family...nothing too fancy. I have been making cookies for an upcoming fundraiser and for a friend. I’ve recently changed my sugar cookie recipe, so it required tasting. Same with my icing, it’s how I know it’s at the right place. So with that said, it’s been little dips to taste, and I did pinch off one piece of a baked to taste how the texture came out. All that to say....I didn’t count any of it in my daily, just acknowledging that I did tast…

Hey everyone, I am almost at my one month and to date, I have lost 20lbs since surgery. I wanted to see what everyone else lost their first month as 20lbs doesn't seem to be a lot. I am getting my protein in, water in, vitamins done, and walking (not been cleared for lifting heavy weights yet). I know it depends on your starting weight but, I don't know, I thought I would be at 25+ now. At any rate, I am so happy to be where I am and the progress and inches lost that I see.

After reading threads on stalls, I'm questioning my nutrionists advice at my 6.5 month post surgery appointment on 1/12/21. Background info = surgery July 9, SW 205, CW 163 5'5" on a good day. I've been in a maintenance phase (not deliberately) for 2 months. According to my surgeon's PA and nutritionist, I wasn't getting enough protein at 60-65g per day. I've since corrected that. But after a body composition test (reads lean body fat, resting BMR, water weight, muscle mass) the nutritionist he told me 1300 calories a day to continue losing. 25 to 30% protein (81g-98), 40% carbs (130g) and 30% fat (43g). He said no less than 1200 a day. Thid seems like a lot compared to w…

Hello, I'm 4DPO. I'm feeling pretty good. Today I almost felt normal. I have noticed that it's getting easier to drink. I still have some pain after swallowing, but no where near as much as I did on day 1 & 2. I know it wasn't supposed to hurt forever, but have I stretched my pouch already? On liquids? I'm hitting my minimum protein/water goals with little struggle. Is it always going to be this way? I'm stressed out when I start on solids it's going to ruin it and be all for nothing. [emoji32]

I'm entering my 3rd week postop and am just starting to incorporate soft foods. I'm just worried that I've felt very little restriction since my surgery. I've also been constantly battling the same old cravings. I've been more or less successful in getting in the total protein with constant shakes, but I still feel hunger. Today for dinner, I was able to eat an entire bowl of campbell's chicken soup and then 8 popsicles and was still hungry about an hour later. This was after eating half a cup of mashed potatoes only a few hours earlier. I haven't paid as much attention to weighing out my food so I will try to be better about that, but is this normal?? I want to make heal…

Hi all, I just had my first blood test results back after my gastric sleeve which was done on the 19th October 2020. The bloods were taken on 24th Dec 2020. Everything looking great, except the iron levels which are very high. I'm not taking any iron specific supplements but it is part of my multivitamin. Does anyone have any experience of this, should I be worried? I don't feel unwell, have tolerated red meat really well...maybe too well? There is lots of info out there on iron deficiency but not alot the other way round. I'll be seeing my DR on Monday. Thanks in advance.

So after 3+ months of advising my doctor that I was having issues with the onset of dizziness upon standing up from the couch, things finally came to a head - my head. Sunday night marked the fourth time I blacked out from standing up and walking after being seated on the couch. The first time, I was able to brace myself against some furniture and stayed upright. The second time, I only managed to sort of brace myself and ended up dropping to my knees. The third time I slumped against a wall and slid down hard onto my knees and elbows. Sunday night, I tried to brace myself against a wall when my vision started going dark, but must have leaned forward to…

Hi. I'm 7.5 months post Bypass and all the sudden I'm miserable. When I eat my stomach instantly bubbles and eventually my bowel starts cramping and I'm stuck on the toilet. If I'm constipated, I'm there until I'm cleared out and liquid diarrhea happens. If I'm not constipated it's just the liquid diarrhea. The catch is I've changed nothing! I'm eating the same foods I've always eaten since 8 weeks post. Low carb high protein. But this happens regardless of intake. It doesn't sound like the symptoms of developing an ulcer which I know can happen around this time. At first I thought maybe I just had a bug. But I'm moving onto the 2nd week of it and have no other symptoms. …

I'm a 35 year old male 6'0" tall and starting weight 300. I've struggled all my life trying to lose weight and was eager to get this surgery and start anew. I had my surgery yesterday and am feeling today like I didn't have a good understanding of how intense this recovery was going to be, when I met with the doctor he said how easy someone like me would make it look. I thought it was an in and out easy surgery but I stayed over night and know I'd get dehydrated if it weren't for the IV. Every sip of water I take hurts with intense gas pain. When does this get better? What should I expect from here? Going to talk to the doctor soon. Trying to stay positive and foc…

Hey ya'll! I had VSG on 12/29 and I'm 3 weeks post op. I am having a couple issues maybe some of you have experienced the same thing. First: I feel my weight loss is going very slow. My doctor said last week I'm doing good and am where I should be, but I thought I'd be losing more. (HW: 329, SW: 315, CW: 297) Second: I started soft foods last Tuesday and I have not pooped in over a week! I will say this...my protein and water intake is SHITTY and is no where it should be. Third: My program doesn't allow me to have salsa, avacado, tomato sauce, so it's bee hard to find things to eat. Any advice is appreciated! [emoji173] P.S- I miss wings, popcorn, and coke [emoji31]

Today is 1 month and 1 day since I had my VGS surgery. And I can’t tell you all how happy I am to have had this surgery. It has made all the difference in the world to my life. I have 10x the amount of energy I used to have, almost like I have a bounce in my step again. My SW: 260 My CW: 217 GW: 175-180 It just seems like it’s really working. What I wanted to share with some people that seem to be struggling with the weight loss is that I have made my diet mostly keto. I understand carbs are just as important during the recovery time, but being more keto has helped the weight come off faster. Faster than even when I was not eating much after the surgery. I am real…

More surgery for meeee.. I've been vomiting up stuck food a lot... for a long time (several months but it is far more frequent the past 3 months... nearly daily)... went to the surgeon today and they suspect a late term stricture. He said the regular treatment with dilation through endoscopy may not work since I am over 2 years post-op but they're going to try. Appointment on the 27th for the 1st round. They try it 3 times before they go in and "widen" it manually. If it isn't a stricture, they're also checking for a hernia that may have pushed my pouch into the wrong spot or esophageal dysmotility. That test is in February. Sigh. Siiigggh. It doesn't make sense though be…

SURGERY SUPPORT GROUP NEGATIVITY: How to deal? My surgeon's practice has a FB support group for pre and post op WLS patients, including his practice partner's patients. I joined as soon as I had my first appointment and three months post-op I'm still a member. I met many other members face-to-face during our pre-op classes; we had 6 total modules, including one online right after COVID happened. People did not talk much in person, but the FB group has always been active. At first reading the support group posts every day was nothing but positive. I posted a question or shared sources for vitamins or protein products, as did many others. A few people who wer…

Hi everyone I’m about 4 weeks post-op and I feel Like the healing process has been pretty slow along with a slow weight loss. I did have some complications after surgery. One day after being released from the hospital I had to go back for pneumonia and stayed a week. During my gastric bypass surgery I also had a hernia repair. Almost 4 weeks out and I’m still feeling pretty nauseous and having lots of gas and stomach aches. I also know I’m not getting enough liquids daily it’s still a struggle. Has anyone else gone through this or something similar? my stats: Height: 5’9 Starting Weight: 342.2 - Surgery Weight: 310 - Current Weight: 286.6
