Hello Everyone! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! I am a week out from surgery and I started pureed food this week. I'm not sure if it's just my anxiety, but I'm kind of nervous that I gained a pound yesterday. I ate half of a deviled egg, mashed potatoes, and some egg salad yesterday, but it was my first time eating mashed potatoes so maybe I should stay away from carbs? I also felt hungrier than normal. Is it possible to stretch your stomach a week in? My program is kind of behind due to COVID, so my apologies for the many questions. Thank you so much!

3 days out of surgery and today is my mushy meal day. I’m suppose try to eat 3 meals a day with 3 Protein Shakes in between meals. I don’t know where on earth will it all fit, but I’m trying. Sometimes I drink protein water instead of shakes, because it’s easier. The problem is the moment I Try to eat past 2oz of food I get heartburn... like if food is trapped .  Will that go away? It’s that normal?  I have to use gasx or take a sip of water to ease it?  A part of me is reconsidering asking for my stomach back.

Im 3 days post op and it seems like everytime I go to sleep, I have dreams of different food. For example I just took a short nap, and I had a dream that I was eating Cheez-it Crunch Chips and Buffalo Chicken Dip. Is anyone else like this or do I just like and miss food that much?

Hi Just wondering if anyone did their measurements early on in the weight loss process? I'm officially 2 months 3 days post surgery & have lost 56lb, which for me is about 47% of my excess weight. I'm over the moon. So glad I read this forum & decided to make the best decision of my life! Apart from my chest though my measurements don't seem to be be reducing much. I don't see how that's possible, I'm at least 3 sizes smaller in clothes. Should I ignore it? Am I just doing them badly? Pretty sure I'm measuring the same spot (only measuring once a month). Its a small complaint, I'm not feeling negative just a bit confused.

What strange way do you notice your bod shrinking? Another one for me is my seatbelt doesn’t strangle me any more lol. Down 53lbs in just under 3 months. Let’s gooooooo people!!!

Hello I was wondering if anyone had dealt with a hernia after their surgery? I had my gastric bypass on 7/15 and i had an additional surgery 9 weeks later - my gallbladder had to come out. My surgeon opened two of my incisions twice - my belly button incision and my right incision. I have a very physical job, and i went back to work after my gallbladder surgery 2 weeks later. I am constantly lifting almost 25 lbs, and pushing/pulling over 200 lbs a lot. My right side near my belly button has been tender off and on. I have recently noticed that my right side swells up a little (its not hard, its still really soft but i do have a lot of loose skin, as I have lost …

I have seen similar questions but no one posts the results. I am having a severe allergic reaction. Antihistamines didn't work and neither did steroids. Its been 2 wks now. DRs recommend going to ER due to their resources (meds via IV) but it will cost me at least $500. Did anyone get over this? What meds? Advice?

Before surgery I was working in a warehouse working 12hr shift with all the extra weight with no problems. Now that I've had surgery and lost 55lbs I can not do it. Last night was my first night back on a job. My feet and back were paining but that's expected because I'm getting back into standing for long periods of time. Around the 8th hour I started to get weak dizzy and my ears started ringing. I tried drinking water and body armour lite to see if it would help but it didnt so I got sent home to avoid passing out or hurting myself or someone else. I'm not even sure if I should go back. Im so hurt, mad and frustrated that I had the surgery to have a better quality of l…

I’m 24 days since RNY. Everything was going smoothly. I was tolerating purées with no issues and following my required diet. Late last week I was overwhelmed by the smell of food cooking and vomited. I was sipping my morning protein shake at the time. Since then I’m having ongoing nausea. I’m struggling to get my protein shakes in and basically surviving on sf popsicles and water. I’ve only vomited that once. Is nausea at this stage common? Or do I need to contact my surgeon?

I am 11 months post VSG today! Down below are my stats. HW: 255 SW: 243 (day of sugary 237) CW: 126 GW: 110-120 I scheduled my plastics appointment for next month! I told them I wanted to remove loose skin from my tummy area and wanted to do something with my breasts.... it’s definitely affecting me... they deflated and are sagging so much :-( anyways tell me your story! What time of plastics did you get? How much did you pay out of pocket? Pain? Recovery? Was it worth it? How long did you have to wait Ladies- if you got breast implants how big did you go?

Hi All Really need some help and advice. So I'm 9 weeks post op and introducing lots of lovely health solid foods again ! However, I have continually got what I can only describe as a b Nauseous hunger feeling around my stomach and all I want to do is snack. Its a bit like acid reflux but there is no burning. I've tried reducing portion and bite sizes and chewing more but its just constant. Anyone else experienced this and will it ever go away ??? Thank u x x x

Hello. I’m 5 months post op of gastric bypass. The past month or so I have pretty much stopped eating. I didn’t realize it at first (became less mindful of eating). I was busy and so stressed with school and work and I have yet to get back a feeling of hunger since surgery. So not feeling hungry, being super busy and stressed made me completely forget. Last week it hit me that I was not taking care of myself and I had to get back into it. I made two ounces of grilled chicken to try and I couldn’t do it. I didn’t want to. I had half of it and then felt guilty for eating. I keep trying to remind myself that I have to eat, but it feels like my mind is telling me not to. I’ve…

Hi all, I had my gastric sleeve done on 12/17! It’s been wild but tame for me. I am having pain, not terrible but I think it is gas, haven’t had to use much of the pain killers because it is totally bearable. Trying to get all my protein in is a bit difficult, but everyday is a bit easier. So far since starting the liquid diet, I am down 25lbs woot woot! I’m excited to be on this new path, any suggestions on how I can ensure I get enough water and protein during this time? I can barely eat a cup of jello without feeling full for the whole day.

  15. I am so ready for chewing again. Christmas Eve is the day! I’m thinking boiled chicken and black beans to start. How did your first soft foods experiences work out for you?

  16. Started by Katiebal_Lecter,

This is about pooping, so if you’re grossed out by stuff like that please just scroll past this. I’m 5 days post op (lap band to gastric bypass) and finally had a bowel movement, my concern is that it was completely bloody. Not just like little drops here or there, but it seemed the turd was formed out of pure blood. I know a lot has gone on with my internal plumbing because of the surgery, but I am concerned. Has anyone had personal experience with this or know of any resources that might alleviate my concerns? I’ve already put a note in to my surgeon, but I want to see what “the people” have experienced. Thanks in advance for any information.

  17. I'm currently on a medication that I take with a subcutaneous injection which I self administer. It's a biologic for autoimmune conditions (not sure if anyone is familiar with Humira). I know some diabetes medications are similarly taken. Basically you stick a needle into that fatty tissue under your skin. I usually take it around my midsection (hips, lower stomach). However, lately I am struggling because I've got more loose skin and the fat isn't packed in tightly anymore. It's been super painful lately. Tonight I really messed up my injection though. I've basically injected it under my skin, I can see a little bubble under the skin. Not sure how it will absorb or what …

  18. Are 100 calories a day too little? I'm eating 3 times a day but it's always less than a bite, that's my limit. However in each videos or forum post I see, people tend to eat at least half a cup or more, about 600-800 cal a day 2 months post op. I drink a glass of milk/juice a day in addition to the meals.

  19. Started by LAJ23,

I'm 4 months out and still cannot eat "comfortably". Every time I take a sip of a liquid or a bite of food (always well-chewed, very small bites) I have discomfort. Not all-out pain, but discomfort, like an ache. I now dread eating as it is no longer enjoyable or even satisfying, and I don't mean that I miss fried, heavy food, or junk food (I'm eating very clean), but just eating anything is a chore. Will this ever go away, or is this just how it is forever? I'm also burping A LOT. Every time I swallow something - doesn't matter if it's liquid or solid food - I'm burping and belching like crazy, and it's uncontrollable. Does this ever go away?

Also, how do you deal with having people in your house eating all the amazing delicious food meanwhile you’re sitting eating puréed food ?

I did get told I would be in some pain after my surgery, manageable pain. Not pain that would send me into a panic attack with whining and tossing every two hours. The kicker is I am very good with pain but this is the worse pain I’ve ever had in my entire life. I haven’t been able to walk or drink as much as they want because of the pain. I am hoping I will get to stay another night but i’m afraid to ask. Help please

  24. I am not diabetic and did not have high blood sugar before Bypass. Oddly, my A1C has risen consistently at each post op lab visit. It's now 5.6 which I'm told is "close" to pre-diabetic. I am, without a doubt, eating less sugar and carb than I did pre Bypass and as I mentioned did not have issues (that I'm aware of) before. Anyone else note their A1C raise when studying their bloodwork?

I have very bad anxiety to begin with so I feel like the world will end but everyone says I will be okay. Opinions? Recommendations? Please help

5 weeks out. Was going good but have seemed to hit a slow stop. Is this normal? Haven't lost any weight in the last week. Scared I am doing something wrong.

  28. I'm 15 days post op and my doctor has advised me to lose 40 lbs my first 3 months, then another 40 the following three months. Here's the catch....I still feel awful. I am recovering very slowly. Walking 20 minutes per day so I am not stagnant but the incision pain keeps me up at night (hard lump and pulling, doc said is normal) and I am not resting well because of it. I do not want to be on pain meds but the soreness makes me sluggish. Anyone else slow to heal? There are so many people whom have jumped straight into their weight loss routine and I am not ready to start mine. Tired of the recovery phase......

My food intake in a sitting with a chicken breast and salad is about 6 ounces and rice yes I said rice but never everyday about once or twice a week at max I intake about 2 ounces if not 3 and the meat is about 3 ounces at max. Other days I’ll take in about 7 ounces and I’m scared I’m stretching my stomach with these ounces. I do walk my 11-15k steps in the day but I catch myself snacking on a piece of toast or pickles as my meal with nothing else for hours on end. Every time I hit a couple day stretch, or even up to a week where I don't see any lbs lost I think "this is it... my "tool" is done, I'm not losing any more weight and this is the weight I'm going to be forever" obviously every time so far that has happened the weight loss has continued, but it did make me wonder, how long do you feel that the "tool" of surgery was effective for you? They generalize a year, but I'm wondering if that's the norm for everyone? My impatient ways are probably heightened at the moment because I'm close to ONEderland, and I jut can't wait!!

  33. I am now a month out and need to start adding resistance and weight training to my exercise program. I have been digging online all day trying to decide what adjustable dumbbells to buy. The routine that the fitness advisor has me on has some exercises with as low as an 8 pound dumbbell, but others she has me up at a 25 pound dumbbell, and I don't want to go buy a whole set, so I figure the adjustable is my best option. Anyone have any advice to give? Also, any exercises or equipment that you just love? Thanks for sharing all!!

I had my bypass Nov. 5th and am just transitioning to soft foods. Yesterday for lunch I had a small amount of Thai shrimp and rice noodles, and it went down fine. Then I had an applesauce snack, no problem. For dinner I decided I would try some ground beef with a few noodles. I didn’t eat a large amount and I chewed well, but I’ve been sick ever since and throwing up every hour to hour and a half. I’m not throwing up food, just saliva. And if I try to drink anything, it comes up after 5-10 minutes. I don’t really feel nauseated, it’s just an awful feeling of fullness which gets worse and worse until I throw up. Hello all. I tried bariatric advantage and they made me sick. I tried two forms of the multivitamin and two calcium’s and could not do them. So I asked around and some recommendations were for PatchAid patches. I got a 12 month pack. I had my post op visit (1 mo post). And Kaiser ripped to shreds the patches. As well told me to get over it that BA made me sick and just take them. I know they are affiliated with each other. But do patches really not work? I was only on the patch for a day before I got blood work done. I am very deficient in vitamin d And potassium. Everything else was okay. Any ideas ?

I make sure I am getting up and walking around for at least 5 mins every 1-2 hours. The nausea has gotten so bad I am gagging and heaving in the evening. Right now I am just drinking water and slowly trying to add in protein shakes so I hit my minimum protein goal. I just wanted to know if anyone else has gone through this, or shoukd I be concerned? It has been 4 weeks since I started my liquid diet and then surgery and POST-OP diet that follows. I have lost 49 pounds. My question is this....over the last 5 days the number on the scale hasn't budged. Is this a normal reaction of my body hanging on to every last ounce that it can??

Hello, I'm 5 days post op (vsg) now and am still struggling to get enough protein and fluids. I'm up to 25-30 grams of protein but need 60-90. I'm also hitting approximately 32oz of water but can't seem to increase from there. I'm sipping everything but after only 1 or 2 sips I feel a tightness in my chest and throat like I'm going to regurgitate whatever I've swallowed. Is this normal for everyone? Any suggestions? I've switched to flavorless protein powder in water as I can tolerate water better than any protein shakes and I've added low carb, high protein yogurt but the struggle is still there.

Aside from the incisions from my rny and feeling pretty tired, there was very little evidence I had the surgery done at all. I am currently on week 2 of full fluids with a third week to complete before I can start soft solids. My concern lies in the amount I can eat post op. While I haven’t actually experienced any hunger pains, I can eat 1 cup of puréed vegetable soup easily. Additionally, while I don’t eat beyond that amount I have yet to experience that “full feeling” people talk about. Am I not getting that full feeling because I am still…
