Will the heartburn ever go away

3 days out of surgery and today is my mushy meal day. I’m suppose try to eat 3 meals a day with 3 Protein Shakes in between meals. I don’t know where on earth will it all fit, but I’m trying. Sometimes I drink protein water instead of shakes, because it’s easier. The problem is the moment I Try to eat past 2oz of food I get heartburn... like if food is trapped .

Will that go away? It’s that normal?

I have to use gasx or take a sip of water to ease it?
A part of me is reconsidering asking for my stomach back.

  • So Idk who gave you the advice to eat mushy foods 3 days out from surgery.but you are only supposed to have clear liquids. No pureed food or anything. You can have jello and sugar free popsicles. Drin

  • Also you should be taking a daily antacid,GasX really helps too.

  • Holy Moses, I am three weeks post op and I JUST started soft foods!!! I was lucky to get two full protein shakes in a day during my full liquid days!!! I was on clear liquids for the first week after

Don't feel bad at all. I never ever have reached the "ideal eating plan" my doctor prescribes and especially not 3 days post op. I snapped at my dietician who said I needed to eat faster and more. I told her I'm going to eat until my stomach is full and follow my 30-30-30. I tried it her way once and I got extremely sick because my stomach isn't there yet. Everyone heals at their own pace. And it's the hardest and most frustrating thing to essentially learn how to eat again. Do the best you can with the protein and keep hydrated. Maybe keep mushy foods on the back burner until you're further out. My doctor has his patients on full liquid/puree day 3-20 but I just had protein shakes and chicken broth. I think I was able to handle a very runny puree around 2 weeks post op. Hang in there.
