Hi everyone, I'm 17 days out and for the last couple of days, I've been feeling strange. I've been completely drained of energy (nearly passed out while driving last Thusday - I did mention it the dr., who oddly didn't seem too concerned) and have been feeling increasingly "full". My sleeve feels like an overinflated beach ball. I'm not in pain, but it's definitely very uncomfortable. I try to force myself to eat & drink, but it just makes me more uncomfortable and borderline nauseous. I haven't mentioned the fullness part to the dr. because it really started Friday afternoon/evening, after they were closed for the holiday weekend. It's also very uncomfortable if…

Hi guys, so I’m 2 weeks post op and yesterday mid day all of a sudden I couldn’t taste or smell anything, I already had covid test before surgery and was negative, and I’ve been home pretty much ever since, I’m hoping I didn’t get covid from the hospital somehow ?, anyone else have any similar problems? Going to go get tested again just in case. Wish me luck!

I had a sleeve done on 8/31, so I’m 6 days post op! I’m doing well, and every day since I’ve been home I’ve met my protein goals while getting around 40-60 oz of fluids. Today has been a nightmare though. Protein of any form isn’t sitting well, my whole belly is full of pressure, and it’s uncomfortable to get any fluid down. Is this normal at any point? Any tips on what to do?

  9. I went for my 6 month bloodwork the other day and my 18 year old twin daughters also needed bloodwork so we all went together. I went first and when the tech called me In she was super chatty about the doctors in my practice and one surgeon that had left etc etc then she asked if I had had the surgery already. Which ok I have a BMI of 30 down from a 50 but ok I politely say yes I have. She then asks if it was easy to get approval and wasn’t it great I got approval yadayada I went out into the lobby and told my daughters I’ll wait in the car. So after my first daughter is done she gets in the car and says to me alarmed “you are having surgery??!!” I said no and she sai…

Hi there, Did most of you with the sleeve stay one or 2 nights? I think with covid they want people out faster.

  11. I have just been given the go ahead to start soft foods. What are some things you have eaten during this stage. Also what are you doing to get ur protein in daily. The protein shakes leave me with a sour taste. Should I just try the powder instead and mix it with other stuff?

Hi all, New poster, but long time lurker here. I have a gastric sleeve scheduled for next week on 8/27. A week into the 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet, woo! I'm struggling right now thinking about water post op. This week, I found out that my job is not going to be easy to be sipping water all day. I say just found out because I only started on 8/3. My surgical team tells me that I need to be drinking "0.5oz of water every 3-4min" a day to get to 64oz. With my job, we aren't able to do that. It is a health inspecting position, and we aren't really allowed to have drinks with us especially in food establishments due to code. In addition, constantly drinking water whi…

So I had surgery 5/18/2020 and my highest weight was 248, 238 before surgery and 191 as of tonight. I feel like I’m not doing as good as I thought I would. I feel like I was loosing a lot but the further out I get the less I’m loosing and I get discouraged and loose motivation. Please I need some advice/encouragement from others. my biggest issue is breakfast. I’m tired of protein shakes, I don’t like hard boiled eggs and I cannot find a protein bar that I like. I’ve tried the new built bar “coconut chocolate” and a few quest bars. The problem is I like crunchy and everything I have tried is soft. I’m feeling super discouraged and I was to get out of this rut…

So I got an ESG 8/19. My weight 30 minutes before the procedure was 315. Today, I clocked in at 289. For the first time in my life, I think I'm concerned with my weight LOSS haha. Is it supposed to be this rapid? I'm currently on stage like 2b (full liquid with some puree if I can handle it). I'm a little concerned I'm not eating enough during the day which is why I'm losing so fast but I don't want to push eating on the chance I either pop a suture or throw up - which I really hate. Any suggestions?

I’m 4 weeks post op and today was the first time I really felt bad for myself about not being able to have something I wanted. I had a party for one of my best friends yesterday because it was his last day at our job, and I made some of his favorites. BBQ ribs, banana pudding. During the party itself I was okay really, I just enjoyed my friends and didn’t focus too much on food. Today stunk though. I had almost a full rack of ribs leftover in the fridge, and decided I would have just 2 ribs for dinner. But it obviously didn’t sit that well and I abandoned my plan feeling sorry for myself, thinking “why can’t I just eat like a normal person? Why does it have to be one …

I honestly had no idea about this 3 week stall until I started reading peoples posts. Can I be among the many to say it is for the birds. I am on week 5 and my scale hasn't moved in a while. I had to put my scale in closet time out until we could be friends again. I'm just going to keep sticking to my diet and try and get in more exercise for a while. Alright I'm done just needed to get that off my chest.

I had surgery in 2008. I weighed 276 and got down to 206. Never smaller. I am 5-8 and female. In 2009 I had to have an aplasia done. In 2012, 2018, and 2020, I have had Lyme's disease. Since the Aplasia, I started gaining some weight back. Once I had the lymes, I gained it all back and then some. After 30 years, I finally was put on Thyroid pills--a doctor finally did a full panel and was shocked it had never been done. I now weigh 283 lbs. I am exhausted all the time. I have no energy. I drink water, and (1) DECAF coffee a day--I haven't had caffeine in 15 years. Because of the lap band, I have a hard time eating veggies and meat. I have found that poultry--wh…

I start the next phase of my diet tomorrow and realized that I only have TWO days of pureed before moving onto "very soft" foods - is that common? I was also surprised to see that "very soft" includes fish, meat, veggies - pretty much everything - as long as it's ground-up. The following phase is "soft" which will start 9/16 includes all normal foods, and they just have to be cut small and chewed well - no more grinding up. However, a general diet doesn't start until 10/1. I went thru the bariatric program at a different hospital before changing surgeons at the last minute, and their program required liquid for 2 weeks, pureed for 2 weeks, very soft for 2 weeks, soft for…

So I'm almost 5 weeks post Loop DS. For the first couple weeks I had no hunger or full sensation and it was great. Then, bam, my hunger came back. Before surgery I always got hangry and it was painful to me to feel hungry. I think that's a big reason I overate. I get hunger pangs now and it's very similar to before, although it is much easier to satisfy, so I'm thankful for that. The biggest thing I hoped to get out of this surgery was not to feel hungry. I'm pretty disappointed that I do. I am following the plan, and I'm fine, but I worry it will get worse and harder to control. Has anyone else experienced this so early on? And if you're further out, is it still fairly …

I’m 6 months post op mini bypass. I’ve noticed in the last month or so that I feel restriction still in the mornings and can eat very little (ex. 1/2 cup yogurt and some berries). But in the evenings, I can easily eat 2-3 times as much as in the morning before I feel the restriction. Is this common? Is it because I haven’t eaten at night so my stomach is less “stretched” in the morning? It just seems very odd. I find that if I’m not portioning out my meal properly in the evening, it can be easy to over eat, or at least eat more than I plan to eat.

My favorite Chinese restaurant is closing forever and I want to get something before they do since they won't re-open somewhere else. I'm 3 months out and was going to wait awhile to have Chinese food, but can't. What do people suggest I order? Just get what I like and eat a small amount or is there a low cal dish? Is an egg roll totally a no-no?

I wanted to start this thread for all the June Sleevers to share updates on their progress. When did you have your surgery? How many days are you post-op? How has your recovery been? Have anything you're struggling with? What does your post-op diet look like? I'll go first! I had my surgery on 6/8. Surgery went really well, had an outpatient surgery so I was home same day. Recovery was really good, pain the first few days, now I'm pretty much back to my regular grind. I am struggling with my post-op diet a bit, but more so because I'm wishing I could have some real creamy soups. I pretty much have 21 days of a sugar free clear liquid diet with the exceptions …

If you are 6 months or more post op, do you feel like you are saving money from spending less eating out & at grocery store? I know protein shakes, high protein foods & veggies can be expensive, but I think it would still be less than what I previously spent. Basically hoping in the long run I will have a little extra money. Then I can but it towards new clothes & adventures.

Today is my first time posting here, though I've been reading the forums for several months. I had the SADI-S surgery on August 12, and I was allowed to return home yesterday. I'm feeling very positive and motivated re: following my program and I look forward to healing and getting stronger. I haven't experienced gas pains yet, but I have felt soreness. My biggest challenges right now are getting my clear liquids in, getting used to the routine of swallowing pills down with little water, using the bulb/drain, and taking heparin shots. I look forward to comparing notes and learning with others -- any others with SADI-S as their first WLS?

The last couple days I am experiencing crazy back pain in my upper back. If I lay flat it seems to be ok, but up and seated UGH! I have read some that maybe its just my bones and such shifting around? I am down 30 lbs since my surgery on September 3rd. I lost an additional 15lbs during my Options class with Kaiser. Just wondering if this will go away soon.

  36. Is the ban on having a drink with your meal a lifetime commitment or at some point is it okay to start having drinks with your food again? If so when?

  37. I am one week out from my sleeve surgery. I have absolutely no sense of hunger or fullness. Is this normal??? I am trying to judge when to eat by time and food volume. So I am using 150ml as my maximum sleeve volume. Just trying to eat something every 2 hours and not go over 150ml. I feel like I am all alone; like I got herded through a surgery factory. Now my surgeon has my $$ and wants nothing to do with post surgery patients. Any thoughts?

Hello, I had RNY on 2/5/2020. Ever since then maybe about 6 times since, I experience a sharp burning pain that causes me to double over. It is located under my belly button and to the right. It only happens with cold liquids but its random. Its happened with a protein shake, gatorade, water etc.

I am curious about how many grams of carbs people are being told to eat in the post-op diet. I was told to aim for 60-80 grams of protein and 60-80 grams of carbs per day. I'm doing ok with the protein (usually at least 50 grams per day), since that's what was stressed as the most important thing and I bought a lot of high-protein, low-carb foods/drinks, but I have a hard time getting more than about 40 grams of carbs in a day. The nutritionist told me that the point is to stay out of ketosis because it makes you feel crappy, but I feel fine. She did say that 40 grams of carbs per day is probably enough to stay out of ketosis, so I try to get about 40 grams of carbs p…

  43. Started by Pandemonium,

Soooo...anyone out there have experience with the Celebrate 4-in-1 powder? My surgeon insists pretty heavily on it, especially immediately post-op because 2 servings (shakes) provides all of the vitamins & minerals that one needs after bariatric surgery, so you don't have to deal with taking a bariatric vitamin to get all of that good stuff. In theory, that's great. In practice...the stuff tastes SO bad. There are two flavors: Vanilla Cake Batter and Chocolate. I tried both flavors in the first 4 weeks post op. The first day I had to drink them, I immediately ran to Amazon and ordered two bottle of Sugar Free Flavored Syrups (raspberry and cherry) becau…

Hi guys! Just wondering if I am doing the liquid stage right? I'm struggling to get the water in as I am only taking small sips. Trying my best to get this better though, but I'm so worried about stretching my pouch. It sometimes hurts when the water hits the pouch too. Secondly, I have been using 250ml bottles of low sugar high protein shakes, but I end up sipping on them all day rather than drinking them at a set meal time. Is this right? Thanks [emoji4]

Hi all. I had the gastric bypass on Tuesday and I'm still sore. I definitely haven't been able to meet my liquid intake requirements but I am on pureed foods but am afraid of what I should try. Tomorrow I'm going to try a protein shake. I've had dry mouth and been sucking on a lemon has seem to help out. I know I need to get up and move more often but its been hurting to stand straight. Day by day right?

  47. Started by peachadee,

I recently had the gastric sleeve done. I noticed one day after when looking at my incisions and such that the right side of my abdomen is concaved or collapsed inward? i was wondering if anyone else had this. My doctor and nurse said not to worry but looking at other post ops mine is just... weird. I don’t know if it has to do with the fact I had a hernia removed as well during surgery or that I also have a VP shunt that drains into my stomach. I added a picture and it’s not gross just... weird as I said. I’m not hurting past the gas pains and of course from the surgery itself.

I'm 3 months post-op, just short of 50 pounds down. I've always loved exercise, but I've really ramped it up as I've lost weight and felt better. Currently I'm spinning 4x a week, lifting 2x a week, and hitting 10k steps a day without much effort (I stay at home with two young boys and a puppy, so I'm always moving.) My dietician has me at 1000 calories a day, but I'm HUNGRY. It's legit hunger too, not head hunger. The exercise is better than antidepressant I've ever taken, plus I'm feeling super strong and energized, so I really don't want to cut back. But I'm also eating more calories than I "should" be at this point, so I sort of feel like I'm at a loss. I'm …
