Hope all is well Here in Australia in my state we are starting to ease covid-19 restrictions opening some shops this week and cinemas and gyms and restaurants next month but still with social distancing and limits on numbers. I've been well and everyone I know and love is well. Anyway just want to summarise my journey for those who are new. I started my weight loss journey 8.5 months ago at 322lbs and I had roux en y bypass 6.5 months ago. From day one I chose to go cold turkey and cut out all the bad food sugar fat carbs and lived off protein shakes religiously for months. By surgery day I was 257lbs and I've now technically been in maintena…

I would like to take a moment to share how I am feeling today. First, thank you to my Higher Power for being there every day on my weight-loss journey. I began the process at 285 in November. I had surgery December, 2019, and weighed 264 morning of surgery. Today 4 months and a week later, I am 215. I have more to go to reach my goal, and perhaps to some observers I might have lost the weight quite slowly because it has taken me 4 months, but I am very grateful for my own journey. I am feeling healthier day-by-day! Congratulations on your own successes, and be gentle with and kind to yourself. Thank you, and be well.

Okay so, I had the Loop Duodenal Switch surgery in January 2020. I'm telling you this because it's a fact that DS and Loop DS tend to go to the bathroom... a lot. I was under the impression that constipation just wouldn't be possible. But, I was wrong! I called my surgeons office and explained what was going on and she was confused and told me that I was the first patient they'd ever had with the Loop DS that had constipation issues. No joke. Her only explanation is I need to cut out the bananas that THEY told me to add in my diet for potassium and cut out the mulivitamins with iron for three days because APPARENTLY my iron is working a little too well. -_-" THEN I need t…

Found something I really like to drink in place of water. Nestle Splash has zero everything. The flavor is not sweet or strong. Just perfect for me. Has 4 flavors: mandarin orange, berry, lemon and grape. 6-pack at Walmart $1.79 and 3 six packs $5 at Kroger. It is purified water with just a little fruit flavor. Clear like water, no color. This is so much better than adding Mio or Crystal Light because has no sweetener and flavor very light.

Are there many BYPASS success stories? Smooth sailing?? I came to my surgeon-of-choice after 1 year of research (and setting money aside for out of pocket) asking for a SLEEVE. The surgeon agreed this would be the right procedure for me. However, after he performed my EGD, and discovered a Hiatal Hernia, he decided the Bypass was best for me. I left my appt that day saying I just wasn't sure I could move ahead. My extensive research was on the sleeve. I felt ready for that. Of course I've come across a lot of info on the Bypass. But the mal-absorption scares me. At 5' 5" and 215 I'm not morbidly obese. I understand there are risks with both surgerie…

Had VSG 4 years ago. SW 285. Got down to 215 within 4 months and never lost another pound. My weight would go down 3 lbs and up 2, then stall and restart. My surgeon acted like I was crazy when I talked to him about why I couldn’t lose consistently. Started regain 7 months post-op and now I’m back up to 250. My hunger never left, I was hungry day after surgery. I vomit still when I eat dense or dry foods and therefore sometimes avoid Proteins for carbs to avoid discomfort and vomiting. Acid reflux is awful too. I wish I had bypass instead as I’m nauseous and uncomfortable every day either hungry, heartburn or uncomfortable. Thoughts?

I had a mini gastric bypass on Monday 16th March. Had a rough recovery in hospital after the biggest of my port wounds bled Tuesday night. My surgeon cleaned the blood that pooled under the skin and replaced my staples. I'm horribly bruised and swollen. I'm still struggling to lie down, get comfy or sleep and ny clips are itchy as hell. My question is, how normal is it to want to cry your eyes out after? It's not a pain thing. I am sore and uncomfortable but the crying comes on suddenly and is uncontrollable sometimes. It's been every day since i got home Thursday. I get that I've been through a traumatic experience but anyone else find themselves crying like a baby …

For the past ten days, I have been experiencing constant dull nausea in my lower abdomen. It worsens when I eat (so I'm only getting about 400 calories a day) and sometimes I have to lay in bed because sitting and eating can increase the nausea. I messaged my bariatric surgeon last week and only heard back from his nurse on Monday. She was rather dismissive, saying that I might have the stomach flu and I should write again in a few days if I'm not feeling better. I also messaged my PCP who does not have a bariatric background, and she hypothesized that it might be heartburn (I don't think so -- I have no pain in my chest or upper abdomen) but said if the nausea contin…

I’m a little over a year and a half post op and I’m struggling with controlling my hunger/eating. I’m noticing that I can now consume larger portions of food and I’ve been snacking much more than usual. I’m stressing about gaining more weight. Sw was 282 my lowest was 155 which was about 1 year post op and I now weigh 170. Any advice on how to retrain my body to not consume such large portions? Should I go back on a liquid diet? I’ve also had no energy to do anything. I’m getting worried here, please help!

I can't get over how well things have gone for me. It shows that if you really commit and dedicate yourself to a new way of life you can achieve anything. i spent half my life overweight and obese and never could see the end of the tunnel until I found out about health insurance will cover most of my surgery here in Australia. My highest weight got up to 322 in 2018 and I felt sick looking in the mirror, was so unhealthy and unfit. i researched everything for months before I found the right surgeon for me and it was so refreshing to find a surgeon who actually cares and I didn't have too many actual prerequisites for surgery really. my BMI was 43 …

Hi y'all, I've been stalled in the 270s for a few weeks now and I don't know what to do other than ride it out (which I'm doing, but not well). I'm about 16 months out from surgery and I'm averaging about 800-1000 calories per day and getting in 90-100+grams of protein in with 3 meals and 3 snacks. I've upped my water intake to at least 80 oz/day and I've also started exercising again after an injury and laziness sidelined me for a while. My fat and carbs are usually around 40 g/day but on a higher calorie day, it can get into the 60s for. Am I getting in too many calories and too much protein for where I'm at? Too many carbs/fat? I think I put myself in mainte…

Hi, I need help! I had the sleeve in March of 2015. About a year ago I started gaining weight back. I've gained about 25 lbs back. I recently got a personal trainer and have been working out consistently for 2 months. The problem is the scale hasn't moved. My trainer focuses on strength training. So 4 of the 5 days we workout we are lifting and 1 day is cardio for about 30 minutes. He wants me to eat more because of this but physically I can't ( you guys can relate). He wants me to eat more than 1200 calories a day but I'm only getting in about 600. Maybe 700 or 800 on a good day. I just need advice. I don't know if I should cut back on the strength training or …

For those of you that didn’t reach your goal weight during the honeymoon phase (18-24 months after surgery), were any of you able to kickstart your weight loss later and drop the pounds? I lost lots of weight initially (100lbs.), but mostly maintained (or went up and down the same 5-10 lbs.) for the past year. I definitely haven’t been as strict with my diet and exercise during that time. I’m still about 25 pounds from my goal weight and don't want to give up on the dream. . Has anyone successfully met their goal later in the process? What made the difference for you to get it going again?

I'm curious what others are doing about clothes if you live in an area that's under extended Shelter In Place. Everything I have is too big, with much of it being absolutely unwearable (yay!). I don't want to buy too much since I'm still losing, but I do video conferences everyday so I need some things that work for work. I've tried ordering a few things online but I can't seem to get sizing right even when I measure. Anyone have any tips that have worked for you?

I’m sure it has to do with the foods I eat but I was fine a few weeks ago I’m about 6-7 month out and everything that I ate gives me an annoying pain like acid reflux and inability to eat so I have been trying the protein shakes and a super bland diet. Even sometimes with that I don’t want to eat because I feel uncomfortable and that pain. What do you guys use for remedies at home or the kind of diet do you guys use to get by this phase if it is a phase.

I am 3 months out from RNY surgery and have lost about 45lbs , the weight has been slow moving this past month and I work out 7 days a week, I do a full mix of cardio , weight lifting and yoga/Pilates / barre and follow a Keto or Lazy Keto diet. Depression , anxiety, sleeplessness , restlessness and anger have been a constant no matter how much I keep my endorphins up. Is this normal? Is it normal to look in the mirror or photos and still be angry and upset with what you see? Are the mood swings 3 months out still normal? I’m disgusted and saddened by what is looking back at me and I am critiquing myself harder than before when I was 200lbs , 154lbs just doesn’t feel …

I had a gastric sleeve on February 26 and recovery was dreadful. I'm pretty stoic when it comes to pain but I suffered miserably from the surgery. My weight loss has been painfully slow. For several days I've been terribly constipated so night before last I took Milk of Magnesia. Well it took effect last evening and I spent about 45 minutes in the bathroom until I felt that I was finished "going". I woke up this morning thinking "oh well, my weight will finally be down a pound or two but I cannot trust it because of the diarrhea." WRONG! I was up a pound. I'm ready to bang my head against a wall. It seems to me that the surgery did me absolutely no good. He…

Hi!!!!! So I am 10 days shy of 2 years post op... Lately with this pandemic and quarantine I have gained approx. 8 lbs from March 13th to the present day. I know that I am eating more out of boredom and being home alongside the fact that I am a snacker always have been before and after the surgery.. My biggest concern though is cheese. Lately I have been on a cheese kick.. any type of bagged shredded cheese that I can eat a small handful of at a time. Peccorino Romano grated cheese I can eat by the small handful.. It's so weird to me.. Like I liked cheese before however never ate it like this. There are days that I can literally eat just handfuls of cheese throughout…

Hi all, I am 6 weeks post op and I am having a really hard time with breakfast. Per my surgeons guidelines, he recommends avoiding bacon, sausage (even chicken), ham etc. but my issue is that I hate eggs! So I am tired of having protein shakes and yogurt for breakfast. I also don’t want to eat chicken or seafood every morning. I’ve had some bacon and I’m wondering if I am “cheating” and messing myself up. I hit a stall at 3 weeks, had my menstrual, and went up! It finally broke last week and I lost what I gained but it just doesn’t feel like I’ve made any progress in weeks! I’ve lost 22 pounds since surgery on 2/24 and with my 2 months coming up I feel like I shoul…

Hey everyone!! i am almost one month out since surgery. The first couple weeks was great, but now, I am having troubles. I am spitting up what I learned to be “foamies” all day/everyday. It’s hard for me to get anything in because I’m so exhausted and sleep so much. My doctors office suggested I drink pedialyte for hydration but it’s not helping too much.

1. The longer I go without seeing people, the greater my opportunity to surprise them with my new skinny self! 2. It doesn't matter that my bras don't fit, b/c I don't have to wear one! 3. By wearing jammies every day, I have no idea what size clothing I wear, so it will be a fun surprise when I finally decide to get dressed again! 4. Working from home, I don't have to worry about temptations from coworkers bringing in donuts, cookies, etc. 5. Also no restaurant temptations, since I eat every meal at home. 6. I can use all the $$ I'm saving on not getting hair and nails done to get extra glamorous when I break out of here someday. 7. A…

I'm almost 4 months post op and I am officially in the hair loss phase I was hoping I'd be one of the few lucky ones but after watching the amount of hair loss gradually increase over the last couple of weeks, I am accepting it. I have very fine hair, but lots of it so I'm hoping it won't become visible. I'm also taking the opportunity of working from home to not dye it or other things that generally increase loss. Keeping my fingers crossed. For those of you who also had loss, how long did the increase loss last?

I never got any information from my surgeon and I thought I'd ask the veterans on here what exactly is the medical reason behind the *NO* carbonated drinks like a soda? I was really craving something today so I had a small no sugar coke just to see how I felt; I was very busy today realised at the last moment I got the wrong drink but I took it very slow small sips and haven't noticed any side effects? I drink coffee during the day but also lots of water everyday. I've hit a stall the past few days I'm not sure if it's the coffee or the fact I'm very close to the end. I'm currently 212; my ultimate end goal is between 180-190lbs... Maybe the last…

I had surgery 240 days ago, just shy of 8 months. Today, I hit the goal weight my surgeon set for me 175lbs, my personal goal weight is 160lbs. Never did I think I'd get to this point. I was always thinner growing up, through an abusive marriage and babies I gained a LOT of weight. My highest weight was over 300lbs at one point. I started this journey at 275lbs, my weight at my pre-op appointment was 265lbs. I finally feel like the outside matches the inside, even though I was morbidly obese my brain never registered that so I always felt thinner in my head (opposite of what is common). I can run a 5k on the treadmill in just over 34 mins, before it was over an hour! Went…

I’m 3 years out and gained 22. Feels really shitty. Beating myself up because it’s my fault. At the start things were easy. I ate a teaspoon or three bites of whatever I wanted and could tolerate. I nibbled chips, half a cookie took 3 days to eat but I did. All this from month 3 after surgery. At year 1, I discovered I could eat pizza and bread again and that changed the whole situation. Now I look in the mirror and I’m back to self loathing. I know I “can” do a reset, go back to protein shakes and salads etc. But I can’t seem to get through the mental blocks. I feel afraid that it won’t work. Don’t know what I’m asking here. I just wanted to share in a space with…

Hey everyone! I haven't been on here in forever and just wanted to say hello and ask how everyone was doing. How's everyone handling their journeys with everything going on? For me, the journey's been a challenge. I lost my job because of COVID and have had to take an assortment of temp jobs as result. This has made being able to afford supplements and protein powder difficult. But I'm still losing, and that's all that matters to me. I can't believe I'm almost down a hundred pounds since starting my journey (I started the pre-op diet last July)! Another challenge I've noticed is that there's SO MANY foods I can no longer tolerate. A part from the protein sh…

HI, I was banded 3 days ago, 2/25/11. When I feel like I need to burp, it won't come out. It stays in my stomach area and air moves around and it really hurts. Has anyone experienced this? Does it get better. i can only get a little bit of liquid in at a time, like 1/2 a cup. I've been drinking water, broths, jello, and Muscle Milk protein drinks. I am also starting to get nauseous and dizzy at times, especially when I take the pain medicine. So I stopped taking the medicine after 12:00 noon today and now it is 10:35 p.m. I still salivate and run to the toilet to spit. So far I have not vomited but I feel nauseous. The nausea started to today. Please tell me it…

Well I hope everyone is surviving through this virus situation. i felt like updating everybody I'm pretty much 6 months post op give or take a few days! This has been an incredible journey to say the least. Had the RNY BYPASS surgery and I believe it completely changed my metabolism; I've lost so much weight and it's like I can't gain weight. i actually started my own pre-op diet roughly 8 months ago way before surgery and my highest weight was 322lbs. I was weighed in for surgery day at 257lbs. Over the past few weeks I've pretty much hit maintenance I believe and I'm weighing in between my lowest day of 168 and my normal days of 170/171 ob…

Hey everyone! So as of this morning I reached my first goal to get in the 180’s. I’m super excited but when I did the math it literally took me two weeks to lose 3 lbs. Since surgery I’ve only lost 17bs and I think I may be doing something wrong. To be honest I’ve been drinking red wine in the evenings, like 2 glasses every couple days. I feel guilty but quarantined with my 14 and 10 year old and working from home is getting to me. Would the drinking have that large of an effect? Based on you guys past experience is this average for someone starting with a 38 BMI. Just looking for some encouragement or a swift kick in the butt.

Hi All, I am about 7 weeks post RNY. For the last week and a half I’ve been struggling with extreme nausea and on and off vomiting. I can’t get many fluids down. I was averaging about 40oz before the last week. I was sent into the infusion center to get two liters of fluids and they are encouraging me to go again. I’m obviously no where near my protein intake either. My medical team has given me Zofran, phenergan, and the scopolamine patch. The phenergan puts the nausea at bay, but I still can’t get much down. I also went back to clear liquids the last couple of days. I’m so weak with not being able to get fluids/protein. I’m just wondering if anyone else has …

Ok, I am almost 7 mo out and am down 130lb over all. Weight loss has slowed to a trickle, down only 6lb in the last month, nothing in a week. The past 2 days I have struggled to stay full and Wednesday was a bad day, made some not great choices(still didn't over eat just not good choices for one of my meals and I ate a bite of a cookie) and Thursday morning had to run for the bathroom 2x in 30 min before I ate anything at all for the day. I STRUGGLED to stay full yesterday and I made good choices etc, Here was how I ate yesterday. 5:30am Protein Shake 30g protein 160cal 8:30am 3 slices american cheese and 3 crackers. 10:30am Protein Shake 30g protein 160 cal & 3/…

Stay Safe and Hopefully Well/Healthy Everyone! Hi, I got the Loop Duodenal Switch almost a year ago, done June 2019. Please, if you post, say the surgery without abbreviating it, as I am not familiar with the initials/abbreviations of the surgeries, unless you want to post a list that would be appreciated too. I wanted to know if you ever experienced losing weight too fast. If so, did it ever slow down, or did you gain it back? I have been told that I might have to have revision surgery because I am losing at the same rate as when I first got surgery, which will be a year ago in June. I don't want another surgery, as it was pure hell the days and weeks after surgery,…

Honestly I didn’t think after that first 2-3 weeks with the air in your shoulder that things would get worst but today too it all. I had a bowl of Cheerios the usual 1-2ounces and my almond milk. So I have been eating it with no problem and it balances out the sugar fix or the additional that I need for the day but my god today I managed to pass out three times completely blacked out thank god I wasn’t driving and two out of the three I had a cold sweat. I haven’t had the passing out phase since the second month of surgery but I am exhausted and so scared has this ever happens to anyone?? and yes I am most definitely calling my surgeon

Hello all: I underwent gastric sleeve surgery on February 26, 2020 so I'm just about 4.5 weeks out. I'm following diet rules to the letter and ingesting at least 60 ounces of fluid daily. I have lost 13 pounds in the 4.5 weeks. I read about others who have lost 24 or so in the same time period. I don't know what earthly good going through holy hell with the surgery did. I asked my surgeon if she was successful in removing most of my stomach and she said she was certain that she did. I average about 600 - 700 calories daily. The only positive thing I can think of about the surgery is that I cannot eat TOO much. I did that once and I suffered. Still wondering …

I swapped all the fruit I eat in a day with vegetables. I’m just at a loss. I’ve stayed away from the scale for two weeks and still nothi…
