  3. I am 3 weeks post op and I lost about 30 pounds in the last week. I haven't lost any weight and I have a hard time eating food, especially getting protein in. Did anybody else have issues? I am Really discouraged? My rheumatoid arthritis is flaring up so bad walking is killing me and I am starting to regret my choices.

Hey again, I was just wondering what are some great exercises after surgery also, what are some great glute exercises I suffer from a square bum aka H shape butt so I was just wondering what are some great booty exercises to make my bum rounder and fuller and, what are some other great exercises after surgery?

  5. I had surgery this Monday 11/29. The gas pain has slowly dissolved, but this stinging pain in my said sometimes get unbearable. Mostly it's not there but sometimes it just hits me. Is this normal or is this a consequence of me eating too much? I'm so scared of eating too much and stretching my tummy, but this pain doesn't seem to always come in the same timespan as when I eat. I drank 300 ml soup today, it took about 15 minutes. It didn't hurt, I didn't feel naseous or anything. But now, 1,5 hour later this pain comes. It comes a few times a day, randomly. How do you guys know when you've eaten too much? Is there any clear indicater for that?

Feeling like I never had surgery? My surgery was 11-09-2021. I am 3 weeks 5 days post op today. I'm currently on pureed foods. The first week was difficult. Ever since I started on pureed foods, I feel like I never had surgery. I've been measuring everything out, and sticking to the guidelines for the most part. People will say they can barely eat...that they're not hungry. Well I can eat 4oz of cottage cheese and 3oz of anything else with no problems not all at one time. I don't drink with or after my meals. I honestly feel hunger...in my belly. I've also experienced the head hunger (esp the week after surgery). It's a little frustrating because I don't want to screw thi…

  7. So I have just had the surgery yesterday and I was prescribed to take Lansoprozole and docusate (Colace). Both of them are in capsule form. Is it alright to take the entire capsule right from day 2? Instruction doesn't mention anything specific on how to take it. I have taken them and they haven't bothered or hurt me. So wondering if it's safe to take them as it is in the capsule form? Please let me know if I am doing it wrong. Thank you.

  8. Started by lydiaire,

Had surgery 6 days ago, mostly pain free except for the near constant deep and awful hunger pain feelings. Mentally, not at all hungry, and drinking or a little bit of pureed things hasn't helped so I don't think it's really hunger. I've seen suggestions it could be stomach acid thing but I'm doing prilosec and tums but it doesn't seem to touch it. Did anyone else experience this? How did it last or what the cause in the end?

  9. Started by LaNelle,

As of 11/30 I’ll be 4 weeks post op. I’m still currently on the soft food/puréed phase. So this question definitely wouldn’t pertain to right now. But I’m just curious if anyone has attempted vegan/plant based foods as an alternative to regular food. I’ve done lots and lots of research over the last several months on vegan/plant based eating. But I’d like to know if any other Bariatric patients have considered this.

  10. Has anyone ordered their unflavored protein powder from Walmart? I found one I think would be good but just thought I'd see what everyone said on here first..

  11. Started by Hlminichillo,

Any recommendations for unflavored protein powder to add to broths, purées, etc? Thanks!

I’ve noticed my taste of certain things I used to like now taste bitter of quite different. Anyone else experience the same thing since surgery?

  13. Started by TonyaRB,

Let chat about weight loss issues Post Op, that you didn't have before surgery.

  14. Started by TeeNeg12,

So, I’m a few weeks post op and I’m just curious as to how long it took some of you to have your first alcoholic drink post op. I’ve seen most recommend after 6 mos to a year

  15. Started by skinnyqueen22,

Hi! I am 6 days post-op from the gastric bypass. I lost 14lbs so far which is super exciting since I can’t remember the last time I had lost this much weight. I am now drinking protein shakes and water but i am honestly struggling with that. I can’t seem to drink enough water or protein a day. It’s just that I get so incredibly full and I can’t seem to stomach anything more. I’m not pushing myself and i’m listening to my body but I don’t want to become dehydrated. Does anybody have any suggestions with how to drink more water and protein? Anything and everything helps!

  16. Started by DaisyAndSunshine,

So I do understand post the surgery, we are asked to eat 6 meals a day - Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and 3 snacks. I would think this is definitely important may be in the first year Post Op, but do you have to follow 6 meals lifestyle throughout the life? Or does it get little lenient as years go by?

  17. So, after the first month and after the first plateau, how much did your weight loss slow down? at what rate were you losing? like around month 2-3 i'm starting to worry that i'm losing too fast

  18. Started by Charotera303,

Hi all! I had my surgery done on 11/8 and on my day 21 post op. I started the soft food state on Monday, 11/22. Per the program I’m following, I can add finely chopped or ground meat starting tomorrow 11/29 as part of stage 4. I have always liked well seasoned dishes. So, when I started Stage 3 I was seasoning my food with salt and pepper without knowing I can’t taste the saltiness of the salt. In my head, yeah season that creamy scrambled egg and that puréed egg or chicken salad. I also noticed that everything that has sugar taste sweeter. My question is, is there a day that my tastebuds will comeback to normalcy Or this is my new normal?

I'm in Venice at the moment, yay! Something weird happened yesterday and I'm hoping it was just dehydration. Basically, when we were waiting for the boat from the airport to the city, I started feeling really faint and like I was somehow removed from reality. I thought I was going to pass out. Then, I gagged a number of times and felt much better. I had drank a decent amount of water on the first flight, but there was a tight connection on the way and I couldn't bring water through security and didn't have time to buy a bottle for the second flight. They only gave me one small 8 oz cup of water on board because it was pretty short. Anyway, I guess my question is…

I'm 2.5 months out from VSG. Per my NUT's guidance, I'm eating 1000-1400 cal a day, and balanced between protein, carbs, and fat. (About 120P/120C/55F per day.) I find that by 7:30 or 8:00 p.m., I am just done for the day. No energy to do anything. No laundry folding, no cleaning, no nothing, I just need to sit down and rest, and I'm usually in bed by 10:00 p.m. (also unusual). I had my bloods done by my PCP, at my request. Everything is fine, except my iron-binding capacity is just south of the low end of the reference range (but my iron itself is fine). No issues with B12, calcium, or D. I'm very active, but not any more active than I was four weeks…

My surgery experience has sucked so bad. No IV pain meds. Exhausted, and now home day 4. Surgery was Monday. I tried calling my doc about my vitamins and he pretty much blew me off. I had such a negative experience that I will not be returning to him If I have any issues, ill go to the other hospital that does these surgeries. My DOCS A pos. I'm also having trouble why are we drinking broth. Is it because it helps towards out water intake on top of our shakes. Bc it holds no protein. Anyone tell me if these vitamins are correct

I had my surgery on Monday! Making me 4 days post op? But what an experience to go through! Ive never had surgery so ive been worrying how id go with it! Had dreams about how i thought it would be, feared that it wouldnt work and id wake up half way through! Arrived at the hospital at 2pm(my admission time) then waiting around until about 330pm. A nurse took me through, got gowned up, obs taken, met with the anaesthetist(who was such a kind guy!), had an ECG(cardiac history) and then had my preop meds. The anaesthetist was kind and gave me something to help relax, was so nervous at this point! Waited around a little more and then by 440pm i was bei…

  27. Hey all. I'm almost 2 months post-op and find myself easily able to eat 6oz of food in one sitting (I'm comfortably full at the end of my meals - not "stuffed" or in pain - but nose a little runny). I'm freaking out because I've read that 6-8oz is usually not possible until 1+ years post-op, and that at this stage I should only be able to eat 2-4oz. I do track everything I eat (I average 750 calories a day) and I primarily eat whole foods (fish, beans, chicken, lentils, eggs, fruit and veggies). No dairy as I'm lactose intolerant and no breads, rice or pasta because they're too filling and provide little value in terms of nutrients when compared to the other things I…

I had my RYN on Nov 1st, recovered well, and just washed my hair and noticed bunch of hair came out, and i was in disbelief, brushed my hair and a string of hair came out! I cannot believe that i am in hair loss? At 18 days? I am supposed to be on the puree stage, but i like only light and fit greek yogurts by Dannon and chicken broth with carrots. But i do struggle to get in the 80g of protein and water because of the chest pain when drinking/eating as jt passes down. I have to go very slow. Is this "normal" to have hair loss before 3 weeks?

On October 4 I had gastric bypass, the first few weeks on purée and liquid stage was fine. once I reach soft food, it seem as if I could eat more than I should have. I have message my team and nutrition regarding this and they have told me that as long as I’m losing then I shouldn’t worry. there has been a few times that I would blank out and binge eat, in the course of doing that I noticed that I don’t have any restriction or discomfort when eating. This already have happened three or four times. Obviously I’m aware that I am a food attic and one of the reasons of me getting the surgery was to restrict the amount of food that I could eat and while choosing health…

Hello All! I wanted to let you all know that I was hospitalized Friday 11/12 until late afternoon Saturday 11/13. I ended up in the ER early morning on Friday 11/12 with severe pain. All kinds of tests and a CT scan were done. The test results confirmed I’m diagnosed with Rectus Sheath Hematoma. (Rectus sheath hematomas result from bleeding inside the vascular rectus muscle layer of the abdominal wall.) My doctors say I will be in this pain anywhere from 2 to possibly 4 weeks. Tylenol and Tramadol are the medications to manage pain. I have to wear a binder and use a heating pad to help soothe the pain. Bed rest is all I can do right now. I can’t even stand for know mor…

  33. Started by EsojLabina,

I’m like what the hell just happen - on the day of my surgery The weight was 330 and now 289 which is not bad - I am 6’2 and my healthy weight is about 200 putting me at 130 pounds of excess weight and I’ve lost 41 pounds post op which is about 31% from that excess weight. But for the past week now matter what I do I think I hit a plateau ????? stuck a 289. Is frustrating at the least but I know is a long love journey. I keep my food diary and basically I am doing keto. Better get back to the drawing board and speak to my nutrition team. Anyone else has experience this post op in the initial stages????

  34. Started by EsojLabina,

I was also diagnosed with diabetes type 2 no meds just dieting (which was not my thing ?) and exercise. My surgeon told me your glucose levels will start to get better. I’ve read that in most cases or about in 85% diabetes would be cured aka go into remission . I have seen my numbers come done from an average of 150-160 fasting pre-op to pre-diabetes number 100-120 which is not bad at all. And again I know all bodies are different. I would love to read from fellow members that have gone thru same experience, and theu marvelous tool of weight loss surgery and lifestyle changes their diabetes has been cured, gain better control or gone into remission.

So, my job requires VERY frequent travel, 3-6 days a week, most weeks, airplanes, hotels, restaurants, etc. I didn't travel for the first 5 weeks after surgery and I lost very well. Now I've been back on the road for two weeks and my weight has not moved this last week at all, in fact I went up 0.2 lbs. The week before I lost 1.4 lbs. Those two weeks I ate at a number of restaurants and even though I wasn't eating much, what I ate wasn't very healthy (high fat, still pretty low carb, moderate protein). I am worried that my job (which I absolutely love) will make it impossible for me to lose weight because I'm eating a lot at restaurants. I am on the road again now a…

First night being home and I couldn’t sleep in my bed. I slept on my recliner in the living room. My question is for the people who went through the sleeping on the recliner stage. How long did it take you to get back in your bed comfortably? I just want to get in my bed!! ? STATS: I had the RNY and Hernia repair. My surgery date was Nov. 15. Highest starting weight is 360 I’m now 313. 5’8 tall.

I'm pre-op, and I know we should always drink water, but I hate water. I found some flavored water that I actually like. After surgery, does water slip on through and not get absorbed? Will I croak if I don't drink 64 ounces every day??

  38. Started by LaNelle,

Tomorrow I start my soft food/purée stage. My doctor gave the option of puréed foods or chewing food to a puréed state. What are some options that have worked for you all ? I’m asking because I am just a little uncertain. I know everyone’s body is different in what it can take. But just want a little insight.

So what do You expect post op as far as Medications.. Do they give you Pain Meds, For how long, Do they really help? Are you able to use full strength Medications? Does the surgery Effect your ability to absorb medications?

Hello, I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on 10/27/21, only 3 weeks ago. I also had hiatal hernia repair, and gallbladder removal all at once. I am feeling good, no vomiting. Still on liquid stage, proceeding to soft solids soon. However, I am feeling GERD again! and worried the revision will not successfully resolve this frustrating issue. The nurse said to give it time. Did anyone have GERD weeks after their revision surgery? If so, did it resolve with time? Please I need some feedback! Thanks!

  41. Most of what I've read here in the forums it runs around 60-80g / day.... My surgeon recommended 120g / day. But it is hard for me to drink 4 protein shakes / day. What was your recommended protein goal? Thanks!

  42. Started by SoulGardener,

I was sleeved in March and have lost 60. But now I have someone staying with me, my ex. He has become homeless in the last 6 months. He bought a bunch of junkfood even though I told him no (two kinds of cookies, cheese-covered popcorn, ice cream, high cal fruit bars, chocolate cake) then he ended up in the hospital. I broke down two days out of a week and my old eating disorder kicked in, causing me to gain 5 pounds! Now he is calling saying don’t eat my food! I told him already he could not bring that into my house. He will get out in two days. I will be taking him elsewhere because even though he is contributing financially he is wrecking my weight loss. Btw, h…

  43. I’m 2 and a half weeks post op from my vsg and everything’s been going well. I didn’t have any pain or other complications but today is my 2nd day of purée. I only managed to get some eggs down but didn’t have any issues. A few hours later I started noticing tenderness around the right side of my stomach and now it’s actually starting to hurt even if I barely touch it. I also notice it’s starting to look swollen just on that side. I don’t want to panic but has anyone else had this or should I go to the ER if it continues?

  44. So, I am just over 9 months post-op. I hit my official goal in August but my personal, unofficial goal was 135 which I hit last week. However, I think I can still go lower - yes, I am wearing size 6 pants and jeans and small tops but I especially have weight around my belly. I can see it shrinking from the edges but I still have another at least 5 lbs I could lose I think. Plus, I have a TON of loose skin. I’m already starting to save for plastics but that’s not the point. In the past week I have had 3 people all tell me to stop losing weight (this was unsolicited, BTW) and that I don’t want to get too thin. Now, I respond that I am working with a doctor and nutrit…

So worried and anxious that it’s not normal. Am I stretching my sleeve? ??? is this normal. I make sure to keep my dinner portions to 170grams. Please help guys.. I’d love to hear.. Hi Its been a year since my WLS and I am roughly a stone / 14lbs away from my goal. I have been a slow loser, there are times I have slipped up which lasted for weeks, due to changes in my life. However when I am consistent about my eating, weight loss widely varies. All I do is make sure I eat around 700 calories a day. The content of the food is mostly carbs / processed food, but it keeps me happy. I dont monitor my water intake but I do drink alot of tea / coffee. I also dont take vitamins or supplements as I hate swallowing pills, but I suspect that has an effect on my energy levels. Dinner is my main meal , so doing physical activity before that is dif…
