I am currently 11 months out from VSG. I am starting to notice now that my hunger is coming back that I am craving sweet things. I never was a big sweet eater pre op. Most times the craving can be satisfied by a piece of fruit or some sugar free chocolate but I’m just curious if anyone else noticed an increase in sweet cravings post op.

Hello all. I hope you are all doing well. I am 4 weeks post op and on softs now. However, everything that I eat gets me super nauseous. I don’t know what it is. I’m staying in the guidelines of what I can and can’t eat, but I am miserable. I haven’t really lost any weight, but I do see the inches disappearing. Has this happened to anyone? What advice can you give because I am getting very depressed?

Hello All, I am new and so happy to have discovered this group. I am almost 3 weeks post op now. I have lost about 12 pounds in these first weeks. I have energy now, but some days I do not. I am really struggling to get all the protein shakes in, the stomach medicine, the liquids and not drinking liquids while I am eating is rough. I am happy with my decision and the results so far. I have a fear it will just STOP. Thanks for the group and I look forward to being more active. - JT

Hi surgery pals! I know we've talked about being cold all the time, and I had a data point some of you may recognize (or the veterans might remember): I was cold all the time from basically Day 1 after surgery until I reached plateaus, the first one of which in Month 9. After a sharp dip and rebound in December when I had COVID, I'm currently fluctuating steadily around 88.7-89.3 / 195-197 lbs). Pretty much from one day to the next, I stopped being cold all the time. Now, however, the cold has come back! As has my red cheeks and the feeling of being warm inside (yeah I know, it's a bit of a paradox). Just tested negative for COVID, btw. On top of that…

Hey all, Had RNYGB on 2/1, was cleared for full liquids yesterday. Tried a bunch of different things and by afternoon struggled with diarrhea and vomiting, and couldn't keep down clear liquids. Went into the ER, they said mild dehydration, gave me IV fluids and antinausea meds and sent me home. Today (about 5 hours ago) I tried a single creamy premier protein shake- big mistake, won't do it again- and I've had terrible sour stomach ever since. Started belching a little as well. Tums hasn't helped. Any advice for getting through this? Just wait it out? I feel like it should've passed by now, but man, is my pouch ANGRY AT ME.

Hi all :) I’m new here! I just underwent gastric sleeve surgery exactly a week ago today! While still in quite a bit of pain, I will be returning to work next week. I sit in an office practically all day, and was wondering if any of you may have sought out accommodations with your place of employment, and what those accommodations may have been? More so, I’m curious about more physical accommodations you may have sought out as I have some fear around comfortability in an office setting in this condition. Thanks so much!!

Hi y'all, I had VSG 1/31/22 and everything went well I guess. Starting on Wednesday/thursday every time I take a sip of water or broth I start to get these "rolling cramps". No lie they almost feel like contractions. At first I thought it was the whey protein I was adding to my broth, but even after cutting that out, it is still happening. I had some sips of water just now and it happened immediately after. Is something wrong? Do I need to go back to the doctor? My plan is to go outside and walk a lot today, but the pain makes me leery of doing that.

Hi Everyone! Im 11 weeks post-op tomorrow and have recently started regular workouts at home. Ive done personal training and dance in the past and am now mixing in strength, cardio and stretching into my routine. Hoping to get back to the flexibility i had a couple years ago! Id make sure to warm up first and stretch both before and after my workouts. But since the surgery i find im more sore for longer when i do my strength workouts! I also have found that i cant do as many reps! Is that normal? I did my last strength training on Thursday and its now Sunday and still sore! I used to be able to do 15 reps/ 3-4 sets but now can barely…

TL;DR What skin care products and procedures should I use in the months after surgery to avoid having huge amounts of excess skin that may compel me to get plastic surgery? I'm a large man who had Gastric Bypass Surgery 20 days ago. Everything is going better than I hoped, both in terms of weight loss and tolerating food. That said, I use a mental picture of myself in a couple of years to motivate me, and that mental picture is incompatible with the images of people with massive excess skin that I have seen. I'd feel compelled to seek out plastic surgery in that case (and given my weight history and the amount I am losing, it would appear that I have a hi…

I had my surgery 11/24/21. I had A LOT of nausea after the surgery which ended up extending my stay in the hospital. I have been struggling to meet my water goals and following the post op diets. I am not cheating on the post op meal plans but it is hard for me to get the food in. I have been losing weight but I just had this feeling of pointlessness and find myself wondering if I made the right decision or if this was a big mistake. I want to succeed but everything feels so overwhelming. I am not sure if this is normal - hoping this feeling will subside as more time passes? Has anyone else gone through something similar?

Hello all. I am new to this forum. I am 18 days postop and struggling to get my protein shakes. Prior to surgery…nonissue. Now any dairy causes me to go to the bathroom. I assume this is normal due to the rapid dumping from stomach to intestines. Has anyone found any tolerable non dairy protein? How did you get your protein in postop? Also… I was home on FMLA for 2 weeks postop. Felt great so I went back to work Tuesday. Now for the past two nights I’ve had some left sided flank pain. What could it be? This happen to anyone else?

I’ve been feeling unwell for a couple of days now and it keeps getting worse. At first I noticed my portions were getting smaller and smaller, was feeling nauseous after eating more often, then got a headache Wednesday night that hasn’t really gone away since. Felt a little dizzy last night and today I am VERY dizzy. Almost like I’m tipsy, my vision is swimming and I feel like my balance is way off. Weirdest thing.. for lunch today I had a slice of bread with américain (spreadable spiced minced meat.. it’s a Belgian thing ?) which is low fat low sugar and right after eating it I felt SO DIZZY and lightheaded. Not nauseous, but I knew that if i moved in the slightest I’…

Hi all, It's been a while since I have posted. Have been in a poor state of mind. It's been 18 days since my Sleeve surgery and though there was a good period of no pain it has surfaced again. My left side hurts immensely when I move. No movement no pain. I can't drink the protein shakes as I will through it up seconds after I consume. The surgeon's office said to try and dilute it with water so that it is not so thick. Tried that but didn't work. I am drinking 2-3 sips of pedilight every 30 minutes. I was at the ER for 9 hrs this past Friday night as all of this just hit my tipping point. They did a chest X-Ray an MRI and all the regular Labs. Everything came back normal…

My iPhone facial ID stopped recognizing me! I don't know when exactly this happened because I'm always wearing a mask so I always have to use the passcode, but a few times I've tried to use a banking app that uses the same facial ID and it says it doesn't recognize my face, so I tested out the phone itself, and it DOESN'T THINK I'M ME!!! I didn't think I looked that different, but apparently technology does. I will have to figure out how to reset it. Has this happened to anyone else?

My grandma is In hospice so we are pulling shifts making sure someone is with her 24/7. I have gone ONE WEEK without tracking and I have gained TWO POUNDS!! I haven’t had anything crazy bad just a few more servings of the same foods and snacks I have been eating. I know that I should be able to lose it but wow- that was way too easy to gain.

I am post op 2 days, I have to say I’m not sure if I’m hungry or not. That seems to be a good thing. I have been able to get down the fairlife protein shakes, jello, tea and water. But It feels so much better when I drink and walk at the same time. When I sit and drink I have to burp after every sip to drink a little more. Anyone else doing something different???

Howdy, all, I had the gastric sleeve surgery on 1/13/22 so I am 9 days post-op. For the past two days, I have been unbelievably exhausted, fatigued, and achy. I feel like it is getting worse. Today I have been crying almost non-stop. Not because of pain just emotional fatigue I guess. (Kept crying while watching the movie "Air Force One". It is not a sad movie. I am hardly taking in fluids, doing about 8 ounces every hour. Alternating between water and Premier Protein Clear. Still, no food but can sip broth. I was walking but no longer as it is too tiring and I feel like I will fall. I have not called the Doctor as it is the weekend and the on-call will I'm sure would ba…

Hello … just wanting to ask the group …. What are you averaging for daily calories post op? I am about one month out from RNY and I eat about 750 calories a day. Four small “soft food” meals. This is keeping me well satisfied with no tolerance issues, but I am falling a bit short of 65g of protein a day. I read different articles that suggest a range of 500-900 … I vacillate between thinking I am doing good, and then I get scared that 750 per day is too much. I am not overeating but I can eat about 2-3 oz. at a time. Please share your experiences. Thank you!

Okay I know a lot of you are going to fuss at me, but let me tell you why first. I am one week post bypass. I simply could not get down enough water / protein. I think they call it food avoidance. But anyway, the protein shakes....I couldn't even look at them. Let me mention here that I am 68 years old, probably a bit older than most of you. Broth was good, but as you know very few calories or protein. I tried to eat & drink like I was supposed to, but just couldn't. I did call in for some more nausea meds, (after I had gone through the original prescription) Finally got them today, and I willl try again tomorrow. Here's the thing; I was getting weaker and weaker. You…

So I am wondering do you still have to sip water a year or two post-Op? It really gets tiring having to sip water every mins. I am hoping it isn't a permanent thing and I can drink more as months or years pass by. Do share your experience plz. Also, plain water isn't working for me even if iced. I can only do may be 500mlsof plain water. Rest I flavor it. Any other ideas on how to consume water?

Hi everyone! Starting to lose motivation! Ive been sick on/off since just after Christmas. Its made my new job be put off as they are requiring me to have no symptoms for 48 hours before my start date. Ill go one day perfectly fine, the next feeling like death. Its been like that for almost a month. Ive done so many PCR tests in the last couple weeks and theyve all been negative for covid! Because with the increased covid cases here in Sydney i havent wanted to put my son or I at risk of getting it. My sons unvaccinated and although i am now boosted too, i have asthma and being so soon after surgery i wanted to minimise risk. Even put all the plans i…

Hello, I am 3 months out from surgery (rny). We have the priorities of 1. Getting enough protein in a day 2. Taking all our meds 3. Getting 64oz of liquids 4. Exercise 5. Three meals a day. How the heck do you balance all this?? I feel like if I do good with one thing one day, I am not doing the others. This clearly takes dedication. But give me some tips and tricks that can help a lady out please. What made you all successful? Thanks in advance!

Howdy there, today is my 3rd after the day of my surgery. We had planned on having the Gastric bypass done but upon consulting more with my Dr. they performed the Gastric Sleeve. I followed the medical professionals on this opinion. I don't remember anything but waking up and being in overall and in full pain and crying. (It did hurt but I am the biggest baby when it comes to pain.) Since the surgery, I have been taking in 1 ounce of water and 1 ounce of clear Protein Drink every hour. When I am able to I will also take in 1-2 oz of chicken broth. I am on a med for pain, a med for constipation, and a gut pill that I will take daily for at least a year. Thankfully the hic-…

Hello! I started pre-op Nov 17, surgery Dec 1st. I started at 429 and am now 377. I have been stuck for almost 3 weeks at this weight. No changes in measurements or clothing. Nothing has changed. I am getting beyond frustrated. I try and meet protein and water goals every day, but that doesn't always happen. I have tried upping different things( carbs, fat, protein, etc) with no change. Please tell me this is normal? I have heard of the 3 week stall, but this is ridiculous [emoji24]

I am 8 weeks post op. I've lost 42 lbs. I am now at a stall weight which is fine I guess, I've read serveal post that say this stall is just temperary so I'm trying to remain optimistic. My biggest problem is "food". Nothin goes down right and nothing feels good in my stomach. I'ts very discouraging. And I miss the satified feeling you get when you eat something really good. Everything I try to eat taste okay but not good. Plus I get really full really fast.

Anybody else have trouble eating? I’m 4 mo post-op. I don’t have a problem digesting what I can get down but I literally start gagging when I think about eating. I’m getting my protein and fluids in but the only way I do is still having a shake or 2. Nothing at all sounds or tastes good to me.

But since it started i have massive chocolate cravings!! Theres a sugar free chocolate that someone recommended for me and i tried one little square of it and it agreed with me so well im close to binging on the rest of it? Just let it melt in my mouth. But obviously i dont want that happening! The chocolate cravings have literally only come on as my period started? Any tips or advice to manage these cravings?
