Hey all! So just to give you a bit of background, I was sleeved in 2016 and about just under a year ago I started getting horrible heartburn that at one point made me vomit, saw my surgeon and a small hiatus hernia was found. 3 weeks ago on July 12th, I had the surgery to repair this hernia and I’m starting to regret this decision. Recovery has been rough, I have diarrhoea every day which comes on urgently and food is actually coming out the way it went in so it’s not digesting properly. I feel nauseous but can’t throw up or even belch, and about a week ago my heart burn has returned. I’m trying to google to find out if this is a normal part of recovery for hiatus hernia …

I got the sleeve in October 2017. I was down 135lbs and it felt great. Last April I started to gain a little back. I wasn’t surprised since I wasn’t being as strict as I had been. Unfortunately, it has snowballed and I have gained 35lbs back. I feel like I never had the surgery and my sweet tooth is out of control. Could I have stretched my stomach out back to the size it was? How can I shrink it? Help! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

14 month post.i stick to my 7 oz portions and get 90g protein per day and 1350 kcal on 4-5 meals and do not get saturated. I find it extremely difficult not to eat more because I desperately don't want to stretch the pouch. And even if, it hurts but not lead to more feeling saturation through the Day. What can I do? I drink enough..

Forgive me for so many posts, but I am concerned. Day 6 after surgery and I feel like I'm starving. I am so hungry. My stomach is growling. I've been having protein drinks, broth with protein, and pureed soups. I get full very quickly, but I am on three "meals" a day and am so hungry in between meals. Will this improve when I'm on purees? Solids? I also feel very weak and tire very easily. I did have both the sleeve and hiatal hernia.

So I am 3 days post op and anxious about my diet. Instruction was 1 oz fluid every 15 minutes. I am anxious that I may do too much or maybe too little. Sometimes 1oz does nothing then the next oz seems to make me fill too full. Am I overdoing?

Has anyone else had issues breaking out in hives in the first few months following surgery? The first time it happened was about 3 weeks after surgery. It's very random, but probably 10 times or so in the last four months. I've never had any sort of allergies before (skin, seasonal or food). Nothing has changed in my skin care or laundry. I'm creature of habit so all the same soaps, etc. My primary care doc says its likely a new food allergy or something I'm eating, but I cant find any sort of a pattern. Thoughts anyone?

I'm 3 almost 4 months out from my surgery and my stomach hurts all the time. It's achey and makes my back ache too. Has anyone else had this? How did you deal with it? I'm going to call my surgeon on Monday but I'm hoping for some help before then because this is miserable. TIA! ?

So, me and my partner are surviving off food stamps, as we have to right now, and we are out for the month. That doesn't allow me much in the way of what to eat. The foods I can eat I have to ration. Im 3 weeks po and in the dreaded 3 week stall. I ate ramen noodles and meat last night, because I had to get something in. Don't come at me for choices, how unhealthy, etc etc, because I know. They sat ok, no pain, kinda feels like they may still be sitting this morning? Not sure. Guess I am just looking for reassurance that I will be ok.

I had my gastric sleeve surgery on December 27, 2021. I have always had gas problems years before surgery and I’m lactose intolerant which I’ve always taken supplements like gas prevention and a pill that helps digest lactose before every meal. Now post surgery I’m having so much gas pain when I eat or drink anything. It makes me stop eating or drinking. It’s like a terrible gas cramp when any type of food or fluid hits my stomach. I feel like I have another problem besides gas pain I think I’m dehydrated. I have not been able to advance to full liquid diet. I’m still on clear liquid mostly Gatorade. I did take Gasx helped for a little while but came back. I feel…

I’m 4 weeks post op and am struggling with getting food wet enough to swallow without feeling stuck. If I start with something that is moist, like tuna with mayo, by the time I have chewed it, all the mayo seems to be gone and I’m left with very dry chewed up tuna that is hard to swallow. Lately I have been eating food in a bit of cream soup, like a soft boiled egg in a tbsp of cream soup or broth. Then when I’m ready to swallow, I add a wee bit of the soup to hep it go down. Not sure if this is cheating or not. If I chew less it doesn’t get as dry but it’s too chunky for me. Do I need to go back to chewing school? ?

So I had the sleeve surgery October of 2014, day of surgery I was 343.6 pounds. I'm 6'1. At the bottom weight I was 166 (way to small). I'm gaining weight to the point that where I'm back up at the 250 area. I dont want to be a failure, I dont want to be the unsuccessful stories you hear about, but I just can find the proper mindset to get back on track. I'm only 30-40 pounds over the goal weight which I know is achievable with a little work. But I just get get back there mentally. If there is anyone out there that can relate, that has any ideas that could help me that would be grand. I'm so scared right now it's the WORSE time of year, days from Thanksgiving and Christma…

I've lost 35 lbs since surgery and almost 85 lbs overall. I can walk faster and fit in an airplane seat better, but I don't feel "good." I don't have more energy and I'm hungry all the time and I'm uncomfortable every time I eat. I'm always afraid I'm going to throw up because I'm nauseous a lot. I always had plenty of energy, but now I'm weak and dizzy all the time. I can't even lift a suitcase into the overhead. I'm sort of wishing I hadn't had this surgery. Maybe because I had such high expectations?

So I am almost at my phase 3 (starts Dec 28th) that includes eating soft to regular food. I tried a soft food meal today, just a trial lol. Anyhow, question is how long do you wait between each bite? I went back to my instructions that mentions chewing 25 yikes before swallowing but doesn't mention the wait on between except that put your utensils down while chewing. So how long should I wait between each bite?

So I am a huge fan of spicy food given my Indian origin. Ofc, I don't eat way too spicy but a decent amount of spice is definitely a must. Hence I was wondering were you ever asked to restrict your spice post-Op? Or we can carry on eating spice level as we did pre-Op?

My aunt keeps sending me photos of how big I was a year and two years ago saying look what came up on my memories I had to show you. I know she means it to say congratulations on your success but part of me doesn’t feel that way. Part of me is like what we’re you saying then if you think I was so huge and gross before. And a small part thinks what if I am one of the people that gains it all back and I am that big again what will you say then. Am I just being too sensitive and not just accepting the compliment or what. Idk if I am explaining how I feel exactly right but I wonder if anyone else has felt similar??

Good Morning & Happy Holidays Surgery Buds! I'm 4 days Post-Op (Surgery was Mon 12/20/21) and have been experiencing painful hunger pains since yesterday evening. I've been careful to ensure LOTS of fluids (mostly water & protein shakes) every 10-15 minutes as directed by my care team. I've been sure to get 64 + ounces of fluid daily. Still the pangs persist. Has anyone else experienced this or know how I might get them to subside? Thanks & Good Luck everyone!

Has anyone here tested positive for Covid after surgery and suddenly stopped losing weight? I’m 5.5 months out and started having symptoms a little over a week ago, tested positive yesterday. I haven’t dropped any weight since and am actually gaining. I’m not on any medications since I am vaccinated and my symptoms aren’t severe. I’ve been consistently dropping weight up until the last week and a half. Not sure if it’s possibly inflammation from Covid that’s causing this?

I had the gastric bypass on Oct 12. Ive lost 10lbs since then & havent lost anymore. I feel like I might be doing something wrong? I’ve read so much about people not meeting protein goals due to feeling full/restriction, which I dont feel. I’m currently able to eat 3-4oz meals & I feel like maybe its too much? Like I shouldnt be able to eat so much, so soon after surgery. I’m eating slowly, taking time between each bite & I wait the 30 mns after my meal to drink water. However, I don’t feel any restriction and I don’t feel full(I dont feel hungry either, but I eat to reach my protein goals). Should I be able to eat this much so soon out of surgery? Am I eati…

Hi all! Im 4 weeks post op. I had surgical glue on my wounds which has now all come off. But ive noticed that it gets so itchy around the incision sites and theres a couple red bumps around them too. It was all fine when the glue was still on, had no issues with that so i dont think it could be an allergic reaction. Its just started up since the glue has come off. Has anyone experienced something like this? Im a nurse with some wound training, the wounds are healing quite well, no signs of infection or anything but my god this itchiness around them! Just havent heard of itchy bumps around the wounds before? If it keeps up much longe…

Hi all! Had my surgery on 22nd November so im almost 4 weeks post op. The last 2 weeks though, ive noticed ill become really nauseous about an hour after dinner. Ive noticed its around when i take my iron supplement and rabeprazole(only have 2 doses of that left) . Im just finding it weird, its only after dinner ill have the nausea. Not sure if its because of the pills? Or something else? I knew nausea would be a side effect i might experience but the same time each day? Im not usually the one to vomit either but have been quite close to it at times! Takes me about 5-10mins of like meditating to make sure i dont vomit and then all of a …

backstory: I was sleeved 9/14, left hospital with midline because i couldn't handle fluids. midline was taken out week 2, then week 3 i ended up in the hospital for a week with severe dehydration, was sent home on a picc line. picc line was taken out around week 8 because i was finally able to handle 40-50oz of gatorade zero/vitamin water (cant handle regular water) and 2 protein shakes, and then eventually i could handle about 1oz of soft/puree food. this was until about a week ago when the nausea came back, currently taking 12mg of zofran a day because of it (not all at once). it's been getting worse since last week and now im basically back on clear liquids and even th…

So i had surgery about 23 days ago, and as of Monday of last week, I was able to start my soft food diet. Everything was going extremely well and nothing hurt my stomach or didn’t agree with me. Up until maybe 3-4 days ago, every single thing I take a bite of or eat, I get extremely disgusted and repulsed by it. It could be foods that I have eaten in the past week that agreed with me and i loved, or even new foods. I take about 1-2 bites and I cannot continue because of how grossed out I get. I still make sure to drink my water, my protein shakes and take my vitamins but it does make it a lot more challenging to hit my daily protein goal. Is this something that would be c…

I am supposed to wait 3 minutes between bites, so that my tummy has a chance to feel full. I have found this really hard to do, especially for my lunch at work. I have been eating slower than I did before but not the 3 minutes in-between bites and my sleeve still gets full rather quickly. Am I hurting my sleeve or weight loss if I don't wait the three minutes?

Wow. Been awhile since I posted. I hit one-derland on my birthday a few weeks ago, which felt awesome. I've been having gall bladder issues for a few months but trying some alternative healing methods before taking drastic action. Ive gone from a size 20 to a size 12. Its amazing being able to wear regular sizes - and white! Picking out clothes I like vs. clothes that fit. Body dysmorphia is real - I can tell I'm losing weight but I still feel like I look the same. Just today, I noticed my skin on my stomach and thighs is getting very thin and loose in certain spots. It was sort of a strange sight but I didn't love it or hate it. Mostly curious …

Hi all - Just got my bloodwork back at my 1 year check up. Most things look great, except I'm *still* having low blood sugar. I had this at my 4 month check up as well, and I do experience it sometimes. Got a home test kit for blood sug, the first one of which warning that it was only accurate for higher-than-normal ... useless. Anyway, any tips or experience with this out there in the vast body of bariatric knowledge? Thanks!

So as expected I lost about 12 pounds in my clear liquid phase which was for a week post-Op. But ever since I started full liquids (Day 6 of full liquids), I haven't lost anything instead put on a pound ? So question is how long do these stalls last? Is it different for different folks? Or there's an average most expect to move beyond the stalls? How long did you stall for?

First, apologies for asking so many questions. I look forward to the day when I am farther into this journey and will be answering more questions than asking. Tomorrow will be two weeks since I had gastric sleeve and hiatal hernia repair surgery. I think I might be expecting too much too soon and I am wondering if the following things will improve: * Reflux. It's gotten worse the past couple of days. * Eating is difficult. It feels like food gets stuck, it's also difficult to gauge when full. * Gas/burping. * Constipation. * Fatigue and hunger. I can say that I am feeling slightly less hungry in between my 1/4 cup meals. I do feel like my bod…

Hello! I am currently day 9, sleeved 12/1. I had some complications, but am feeling 100 times better now. I am on full liquids until PO next tuesday, limited options, getting to the point where I can't stomach some things anymore. I cannot tell the difference between hunger and reflux. It feels like hunger! Its cramping, painful, and makes all sorts of noises( gurgling, sounds like growling.) Im still working on fluids but hit my protein goal( can down 10 oz of protein shake and 5 oz of yogurt, 3/4 cup of soup, all done in accordance to my plan). Its felt like this all week! Today is the first day I haven't felt it, or felt hungry. Im on 20 mg of omeprazole, and was on …

Hi everyone. I was sleeved on November 30th and am in the pureed phase. Ever since the surgery, I have been hungry. The surgeon and dietitian want me eating 3 "meals" a day. Naturally I get full on very little. The problem is that in between the meals, I am starving. Hangry. Weak. I go back to a classroom full of hormonal preteens excited about winter break next week and I simply will not have the stamina on so little calories. I am drinking about 50 ounces of water a day. I wish that in between breakfast and lunch I could have a tiny bit of cottage cheese and in between lunch a dinner maybe a bite of hummus. Would this really stall weight loss or interfere with my s…

Hi everyone! Ive been on liquids since my surgery date 3 weeks ago. Surgeon said puree would be find after the first 5 days. I did try some smooth cottage cheese and found if i ate too fast i would have some centralised pain like just below my sternum. So a couple days ago i was cleared to start soft foods! Im almost freaking out! Scared to start it! Will it agree with me? What if ill start gaining? As much as im so over liquids, im just so nervous to move to soft foods. Ive lost 11kg since the start of pre op, so in about 5 weeks. Im at 92.6kg now and in the past its always been around this weight ill get stuck and cannot move any lower no matt…

Taking the before picture is hard, but so so important. I don’t see my own progress month to month but when I look back at the beginning, all of a sudden I can see where some of my (almost) 50lbs has disappeared from. Stick with it, we’ve got this! ?? I’m 5’4” and had a VSG on 9/13. My highest weight was 242 and my weight on the day of surgery was 230lbs.

So I just finished clear liquid phase for a week and now for the next 3 weeks I am on "full liquids" Though I have no hunger and most of the time I feel full and not wanting to eat. Do I still go on about eating my meals on regular intervals even if I feel kinda full? I have my dietician appointment in about 2 weeks. But till then I just have to follow the schedule.

I feel something sharp when I lie down in certain positions My skin on that part of my body hurts to the touch I can’t go see a doctor as I’m not insured right now I know it’s because I threw up a lot but what do you think I should do from home to relieve the pain

I am post-op day 3. Ever since coming out of recovery, I have been peeing but only in small amounts. The hospital was ok sending me home knowing that, which gives me a little peace of mind. Now at home, I feel like I go about every hour (based on sensation/urgency) and then it’s just kind of a trickle. Hoping it’s just from swelling/pressure in the abdomen and slowly “waking up” my bladder after anesthesia, but wondering if anyone had the same experience, and if so, how long did it last?

So I created an account yesterday and I tried logging in the food today. Seems pretty straight forward and doable an option to keep an eye on your daily intake. Plus it has a voice recording to record your menu without having to type it out and pretty accurate at that. Question - Is this App sustainable long term? Is it free to use without having to pay? How has your experience been on the App? Does it have any downside? If not, I think I have found the app to use during my journey. I think *My fitness Pal* app is paid after a trial version last time I remember using it.

I'm a few days post op and feeling okay overall. I've started with the liquid phase and currently I'm making banana smoothies with added protein that I drink throughout the day. I drink water in the morning, wait 10 minutes and then I sit down and slowly get one glas of smoothie down in 30 minutes. It's maybe 200ml or 2dl. Is that too much in one sitting this early on? I don't feel nausea or too full, but I do have some pain in my stomach most of the time, but that's pretty normal this soon after surgery? Should I just see how it goes further down or does anyone feel like this is absolutely too much and that I should take longer?

So I have been wondering if anyone else here has been put on only clear liquids post-Op? Diluted juice, broth, jello, flavored water, decaf tea or coffee and plain water. That's all. Today is day 6, so almost there. One more day and I can move ahead to full liquids/pureed diet. Clear liquid phase is told to be done for healing process but there's no protein nothing. Usually after surgery one needs protein because body is in catabolic stage. So not sure why they no source of protein at all in my phase 1. May be all the protein from pre-Op diet may have been done for the reason. Clear liquid diet for a week has definitely been challenging especially post day …
