So I'm actually enjoying working out!!! Who knew?? lol I work out twice a day. I do 20 minutes on the treadmill on speed 3.5 (running is 4.0 and I'm not there yet lol ) then I do 15 minutes on the bike at speed 12 (most resistance is 15, but again, not there yet) and 10 minutes doing sit-ups and stomach crunches. Those are the hardest, so I only do 5 minutes of each, but it's a decent start, anyway. I just finished my work out and even though I'm tired, I feel GOOD. Really accomplished and actually have energy. And even though the scale is moving slowly, I see a real difference. My size 26 clothes are too big now and I almost fit into size 24!!!! I haven't been in a size …

Hey Y’all! My Gastric bypass was on may 2nd 2022. I’m down 38 pounds but I’ve stalled! Sitting at around 276-278 (it fluctuates) I’ve been eating salads, nothing fancy but I measure everything out which ends up being around 240 calories with my dressing. And I’ve been obsessed with the no sugar added out shine popsicles. I’m wondering if my calories are too high? I usually am around 800-1000 and I walk and go to the gym so I’m thinking this is my maintenance calories and I’m not enough in a deficit? I’ve decided to switch it up and this week go back to basics of just 2 oz of protein and my serving of veggies. And I’ve cut back popsicles to 1 a day. I actually bou…

I’m not sure if it’s normal but some of my incisions are hurting like crazy that I can’t even sit on the toilet. Is this normal? I’m having pain medications like Tylenol and the prescription pain medicine only if needed. Is this normal? I got back from the hospital today so I’m only 2nd post op. When does these incision pains go away? Thank you all.

Hi, my gastric bypass surgery was March 14, 2022, and I’m still having issues keeping things down, meds, food, clear liquids, even my own spit. Anyone else going through this? Any pointers? I started at 232 lbs and I’m already down to 160 lbs.

? So the local show is on (fair for those in the US) and I started out good, I had a dagwood dog ate 3/4 threw the rest away, had a small cup of soft serve ice cream with choc- sherbet topping didn't finish it. Now this is where I fell down bought 2 yes 2 pizzas to take to work with me (nightshift) only ate half of one over the course of a 12 hour shift BUT ate a whole packet (big) of twisties , a litre of coke, a cupcake, a slice of ice-cream cake (left over from someone's birthday) 2 sausages (left over from BBQ) and 100g caramel coated popcorn and not once did I feel full ?. jumped on the scales today, 69 gone hello 70 ?Now I am trying to not beat myself up over …

So before I got my surgery, Jan 18,2011 one of the nurses warned me about friend reactions. I was just wondering if other people had similar situations. My best friend who is just a little overweight...but who has always been way skinner then me 100lbs 150 lbs lighter then me...would bring up my surgery with other people. Some people we know but mostly new people, random strangers. For example we were out at a resturant...I didn't eat all my food and the waitress asked if my food was okay. She seemed like she kind of went out of her way to tell her that i had weight loss surgery. .. And there are other examples,I have some of her other friends and at some point my surgery …

Hi, I need some encouragement please. I am into my 2nd stall since WLS. First one came less than two weeks from my surgery date and lasted a week, now I am in this second one but this one is much longer (going on three weeks). To make matters worse I am a slow loser. This is starting to get discouraging and darn annoying. I'm left wondering if I made a big mistake getting WLS and am I going to stay at this weight. Was this it? I'm trying to stay positive about but the bad is starting to outweigh the good. Please tell me it gets better.

I am feeling PHENOMENAL! I am working out 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day. I have been motivating friends and family to exercise, and even training some people. I am down 106 lbs since I started this journey in March of 2021. The process was rough but I am still pulling through. I had to up my calorie intake because my metabolism has increased so much. I was taken off of the diabetes medication all together. Went from taking 4 pills a day, to NONE!!! Sleep apnea has subsided, blood pressure meds were reduce DRAMATICALLY! This was the best decision I made concerning my health, in my life. I don't mind sharing my picture on this post and breaking anonymity. I just want…

Had my 1st post-op visit today...my scale says I've lost 13 lbs...Dr scale says I've lost 7...6 lb difference!!! WTF!!! Dr says I should only be weighing myself once a week and that I'm doing fine. But I thought for sure the weight would come off a little faster. Sticking with soft foods until next appointment on July 20th. Hopefully I'll see a better loss then. My husband goes in on Monday for his surgery so at least we will both be on the same diet.

I have a question for those that have had gastric sleeve surgery. . . I work from home - on a laptop - realistically, how many days do I need to ask off? I feel like I can easily sit at my desk or work from my bed if needed, why do I need to waste PTO days when all I'm doing is sitting anyway. Am I crazy? Am I just naive? Were you able to move around and sit at a desk a few days after surgery? Thank you in advance for your response.

Hi yalllll, So I’m rlly just wondering if I’m fucking this surgery up ? I am able to eat a yogurt (6oz) in like 20 mins and I don’t feel gross after. My brother who also had the surgery two/three years ago is telling me I’m eating way too fast, but I don’t like understand how or what he means? He won’t rlly help me understand either ? I just don’t want this all to be in vain, I’m a worry wort as you can probably see but I have lost 12ish lbs and I wanna keep the momentum, and make sure I’m not doing anything dumb to jeopardize my success. Any input would be helpful! Xx

Hey everyone! I hope this finds you all doing well no matter what phase you are in of your new lifestyle! I am a newbie so thought what better place to reach out with my questions! This one has to do with the 30 minute rule with eating and drinking. Prior to surgery, I never drank during the time I was eating. I've been like that my whole life. I didn't drink until after I ate. However, now that we are supposed to wait 30 minutes before, and 30 minutes after, I'm struggling. I do it but dang I get so thirsty after eating and I definitely don't want to chug because I do not want that pain that I have experienced when taking too big of a sip absent mindedly. …

Just seen this on Amazon and thought it could be of use for people who are earlier out and having a difficult time tolerating lettuce. It looks kinda like a double pizza cutter with a big bowl but it is designed to chop salad down to much smaller pieces that would be easier on our tummies. Well it won’t let me copy the link but just search salad chopper. It’s called salad chopper blade and bowl. Actually there is another lettuce chopper that comes up too that’s only ten bucks that may be sufficient too and even salad scissors. Has anyone tried any of these? Or do you have any suggestions for favorite kitchen gadgets that make prepping healthier food easier??

Question - I get sharp pains in the top of my stomach when I drink anything. It's intermittent. They don't even last a second but I was hoping they would get better a week out, but it's the same. I'm thinking it's the hernia repair I had at the same time, or could it be common to the sleeve?

Hi everyone, I have found this website helpful so I thought I would ask. I am almost 8 weeks post op and I usually just alternate between tuna or grilled chicken daily. I have tried ground beef and I would say my stomach handles it better than chicken. Chicken is pretty harsh sometimes. I eat alot of Poke too but I feel like I haven't really experimented with alot of food yet. Not even salad. I am going on vacation in a few weeks when I am almost 3 months post op and was wondering when it was ok to try sushi with rice or thin meat like Carne Asada or Barbacoa or Korean bbq? or corn and flour tortillas ? Also, alot of people say they can't tolerate a…

So today is my weekly weigh in day, and I weigh 349!!! It's the first time in 2 years I have been below 350 (1st time was when I did keto, but as soon as I hit 320 it literally came back up and I never lost a single pound after I went back to my original weight). I'm figuring out the food portions, timing, measurements and I think I have it down!!! You guys have all been so amazing with all the meltdowns, crazy questions, doubting myself, etc I've done on here (I know, I was a bit loco lol ). But I seem to be losing at a nice steady pace (5-7 pounds per week) and I have to say, I'm really liking it. I feel like this is much more sustainable and maintainable than when I wa…

Hi everyone! I am 8 days post op gastric bypass. I think I’m doing pretty well. However, I had a few friends tell me that drinking fluids would be difficult. They said I’d probably only be able to take small sips for the rest of my life. But, I can get fluids down really easily. I don’t gulp or chug, but I can take pretty large sips and I have no discomfort or pain… does this mean something is wrong with my pouch?

Has anyone else taken this for depression and noticed weight gain. I added it about a month ago and have gained a couple pounds. It’s supposed to be weight neutral according to my dr?? In all fairness I have been eating more but it’s almost as if the medication is making me more hungry.

Hello everyone. So glad I found this forum and I hope it's active because I don't really have anyone other than my surgeon, his nurse, and my nutritionist to ask questions of and they don't have time to be my BFF. Hahaha! My surgery was Friday, June 10th so I'm am on day 10. I feel much better than I did this time last week but dangggg I'm starrrrrving and I am so very over jello, Popsicles, broth, protein shakes, etc. Surely there has got to be something else with a bit more body that I could start to try to get my mini tummy ready for week three, which I'll only have two days to adapt to before returning to work, that will also keep me from feeling like I'm starvin…

I've been reading that after the surgery, the patient will be weak and fatigued due to lack of nutrition as well as recuperation. I don't know if I can handle even more weeks of sub-human living after all the delays, pre-op stuff, and quarantines. Given that I have to quarantine for 2 weeks both before and after surgery, do 2 weeks of protein shakes and clear liquids only, and cold, crummy weather which prevents even outdoor activities, I'm already depressed after 6 months of delays getting surgery. I can't see friends or family, go to the gym, swim, garden, walk, or even be outside much due to weather. Ugh. Plus, Christmas and Thanksgiving are ruined for the sec…

I knew it was coming and yet it still bothers me. Now that my weight hasn't gone down (and I actually gained a pound) in the last 2 days, I'm going to not weigh myself for at least a week. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing, keep exercising, keep watching what I eat, and try not to think about it too much. It's not easy, because of course it bothers me that my progress is stopping, but I can't let it get my anxiety going. So....fun times....

Feels pretty good, had a minor set back on soft veggies cuz I forgot the "seed" rule and thought I wad gonna die...so I've back tracked for a few days and feeling better. Weight loss has been slow (SW 250, CW 238, GW 150). Hoping it speeds up some, but I guess steady weight off is permanent weight off. Just thought it would be faster. First post-op visit is next Wednesday so I see what happens then.

So I am upgrading my degree and have lectures and readings daily. Unfortunately my surgery got cancelled twice (Covid) and now it is finally happening on Sept 7th while my school work is on (Program started in August). I am aware it takes 1 to 2 weeks at the least to ease into your normal schedule. But my question is, day of the surgery or the next day or the very first week, did you have the stamina to sit and read something? Will I be able to sit down and listen to my lectures online, take notes or study with painkillers the very first week?! I have read how sleeping does cuz issues but how about just sitting in a chair and studying?! Will it be doable? I…

4 days out of surgery and all I can think about it sugar…. I think I’m having some regrets but I know this will all be worth it in the end…. just thinking of my birthday in November and how I would have stuffed myself with red velvet cake (my fave) not anymore lol Anyone else have any regrets after surgery? I also am going to work in a few days because I don’t have any time off so I’m nervous about that. I love this forum though such a great way to get my thoughts out there and have some people to relate to!!! (Attached pic is pre surgery xx)

I'm so frustrated. I lost 30 pounds the first 2 weeks after surgery. Then I hit a stall for 2 weeks. Lost 5 pounds when the stall broke, and then literally lost nothing else. Stayed at that weight for a week, and now I'm gaining weight!!!!! I don't understand it. I bought a food scale and I weigh everything. I check the labels on everything to make sure protein is high and carbs and fats are low. I work out once, sometimes twice, a day. I never have restriction, so I make sure to set alarms for when I can eat so I don't graze or eat too much (I eat 3 meals and 1 snack per day). I'm always hungry, but I do my best to ignore it and stick to the diet and eating schedule. I d…

Has anyone else had an upset stomach from the Bariatric Advantage vitamins? I’ve tried taking it before breakfast, during breakfast and after breakfast and still get an upset tummy for an hour. Do you still lose weight after being 1 year post op? I've been incorporating strength training in my routine these last 2 months but haven't noticed any weight loss and I'm nearing 1 year. I'm a few pounds away from my goal so I'm really hoping I can reach it soon.

I am 3.5 weeks post op RNY. I am still on the pureed food stage. I am finding that I don't have restriction yet, but I do start to get nauseous as I get full. It's a pretty solid stop sign, but I am still learning to perceive it quickly enough. Do other people have this reaction? Does it last, or should I be looking forward to different fun in the next food stage?

I had my surgery on June the 9th and was so excited and feeling really strong. Since surgery I have been knocked sideways and am in such a funk. All food makes me feel sick, I can barely drink fluids and I’m feeling panicked that this will go on forever. I can’t stop burping and wrenching. Is there anyone out there who wants to buddy up and help keep each-other stay positive? Any tips welcome

Pain is subsiding a little more each day. Walking definitely helps. Feeling up to taking a shower today. From surgery on Monday to today I've lost 5 pounds. Promised myself I wouldn't worry about how fast or slow the weight comes off as long as it comes off. So I'll keep strolling along.

Pain is much more tolerable with just Tylenol. Still can't sleep on my sides which is causing some lower back pain but manageable. Doing good with walking (not quite up to the 1/2 hour at a time yet). Not really feeling hunger pains yet, but trying my best to get in protien and liquids. Lost 6 pounds so far.

Hey everybody! I hope some of you can relate and give me some peace of mind! So I’ve been making some spinach/feta/egg white wraps the past couple nights for dinner and timing my bites, 1-5 minutes between nibbles, and after I’ve finished I feel so horribly full. I weigh and measure everything, I know my macros. Anyway, Im thinking I should definitely eat only half. I know for sure that last night and tonight I ate more than I should have. Is this common for everyone when navigating the new regular diet? I’m so scared that I’m going to start stretching my pouch out early on and sabotage myself. It can’t just be me?!

So for context. I had the surgery March 8th. So after my surgery they told me to eat jello, I couldn't it hurt incredibly bad. So I just didn't eat anything. In fact I eat maybe a bite of food a day, still. I get horrible pain when I eat or drink. I've told my surgeon's office and they say "Don't worry you have tons of fat to live off of, it's not a big deal." I can't eat even week one post-op food. I can't drink water, it has to be hot tea or I am met with awful, rough pain. On top of that, everything food related smells and tastes like ROT. Straight rotten food, garbage taste and smell. No one else I know who had the surgery suffered from either one of these things. …

Well my surgery went well, took 3 hours due to severe scar tissue from a gall bladder surgery in 1992. I have to say that gastric sleeve surgery was much less painful than my C-section or my gall bladder surgery. Had me up walking in recovery about an hour after surgery. Then walked 1 more time after I was taken to my room. Walked 2 more times at hospital before I was released to come home. Was given a small hospital pitcher of ice chips last night. Then was given another one this morning. Was given 1oz of plain Greek yogurt for breakfast and 1oz of tomato soup for lunch. So definitely alot different than I thought food the 1st day after surgery would be. So f…

Hi all. My surgery was on May 16th, the 1st week was going okay, no vomiting no pain, just a lot of gas that would only come out as a belch. I was having bowel movements so the Dr said to give it more time. By Monday May 30 I was back in the hospital. I was vomiting, couldn't keep anything other than liquids down. Turns out part of my intestines was pinched shut. A full week here in the hospital, but finally feeling better after a second surgery to correct the blockage. All the posts I see people are doing great after surgery with no problems. Anyone else here have any complications?
