The Gals' Room

A space for women. Weight loss surgery, health, body changes, or whatever else is on your mind.

  1. Started by carpeediem,

Hello All! This might be a taboo topic, but this has always felt like a safe space to ask questions. I had VSG surgery three months ago, and I'm down 50 pounds which is very exciting. My question is, has anyone else experienced vaginal dryness after surgery?! It's dry as the Sahara desert down there, regardless of solo play or with my partner, which was the complete opposite pre-op! I don't know if I'm dehydrated, or maybe my hormones are just off right now. Any thoughts? Thank you ?

  2. Started by IWant ToDelete MyProfile,

Hi ladies! So here’s my situation, I had RNY surgery July 6th and everything has gone as expected and what was explained to me. Smooth sailing until yesterday and today. I’ve been expecting aunt flow and she’s coming slowly but surely. I woke up yesterday feeling great. I had a protein shake and went for a short walk. Shortly after returning I started to feel so sick. Like what dumping syndrome feels like. All the symptoms to a “T”. I couldn’t understand why and thought that maybe I drank my shake too fast? There was literally no explanation. I laid down and laid low for the rest of the day. My stomach was angry so I just had popsicles, broth, water and 2 bites of pla…

  3. Hello everyone. I had my VSG surgery on November 15, 2021 and I feel like I am at a stall and I'm looking for a gym buddy in my area San Antonio, TX. I feel awkward going to the gym on my own. I have no idea where to start and would appreciate having someone who knows what I am going through. I'd love to push you on with your weight loss goals and hopefully be able to push myself also in this weight loss journey. I see the before and after pictures of many of you and you all look so GREAT! I am ready to work on myself.

  4. Started by teshadb,

So I'm freaking out a little, I am about 3 weeks post op and I have had a yellow thick vaginal discharge. Has anyone else had this? It doesn't itch or burn but I did have antibiotics in the hospital? Should I treat like a yeast infection???

  5. Started by redhead_che,

I had a period the week before my surgery on 5/6 that was mostly normal, lasted a day longer than usual. I had to go off birth control before surgery and then now post op can’t resume until 7/6. It’s time for a period per my app (what would I ever do without that thing ?) and it’s a few days late. Is that fairly common? I’m a revision and after my sleeve I remember having a period very quick. But that was a few years ago.

  6. Started by pintsizedmallrat,

Is this normal? I got a period (a pretty heavy one) about a week after my surgery in September and since then, nothing. I'm 39, I'm not on any kind of hormonal birth control (and not sexually active so I'm NOT pregnant). I've never been formally diagnosed with PCOS but it's been suspected. My mother went through menopause really young (early 40s). I don't have any children. For the first few months following my surgery, between some new food sensitivities and just general adjustment, I had problems getting enough food in my system (I was running on maybe 200 calories a day because it was all I could comfortably ingest). I wonder if that has something to …

  7. Started by SleeveToBypass2023,

So I just realized that I'm set to get my monthly enemy literally on my surgery day (May 3rd). I get it between the 2nd - 4th every month. Has that been the case for any of you? And how did you handle it in the hospital and when you got home? I feel like my stomach and the gas and incisions will make it really difficult and painful to deal with tampons (that's what I use) and even if I use pads, I feel like that would still be an issue since I have PCOS and my flow is typically REALLY heavy for 3 or 4 days and then goes away (I mean Niagara Falls kinda heavy, which is why I don't use pads). Any advice or suggestions? My husband can help me with most things, but definitely…

  8. Started by SummerTimeGirl,

So all my life I have had period issues. When I was a teen and into my early 20's I was on birth control pills to give me more normal and regular periods. Was also told that it would help my PCOS, Endometriosis and Adenomyosis . My GYN really wanted me to get a hysterectomy saying that was really the only thing that would cure that stuff but I wasn't ready. I was also young and not sure if I wanted another kid or not. So I didn't get it and stuck to the pills. And the BC pills worked for a while. Until about 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with high BP. Then the doc took me off of them. I was back to square one with the monster migraines, heavy, clotty periods, the…

13 weeks sleeve post op. A little hair loss just began but that's ok. I am just not hungry. The thought of eating a meal makes me sick to my stomach (literally.) I'm losing 1-2 pounds a week. Sleeping well. Feel fine. But living on greek yogurt and protein shakes and applesauce with added collagen. Oh- some fruit and nuts too. Is this ok or am I developing some eating disorder? Anyone else in the same boat?

This was only my second time having a mammogram so I’m not sure it could’ve just been the difference in the person doing it but it didn’t hurt this time and it did last time a lot. I’m wondering if it was because I’ve lost so much weight and I’ve lost quite a bit in my breast as well. Has anyone else experienced a difference in their mammogram experience??

Hi Sleeve done 11/29/21. Doing pretty well in my opinion. They don't really prepare you for the mind blown moment. At least that's what I call it. Today, this morning actually it dawned on me... my relationship with food would never be the same. This is a good thing for me. But when it hits you you don't expect that punch. I enjoy reading the comments here. Yall get it. Nannette

I had the sleeve surgery done 9/23. My period started the day after surgery and have not stopped. I am on depo birth control shots so I had no period before. Is it normal to be bleeding this long due to surgery?

I am not having fun coming of caffeine before surgery. Probably after the headaches go away I will be fine. Then the artificial sweeteners will be next. I have 2 months so I am sure I can do this. I am not required to do a liquid diet b4 hand. I might do it anyway just to prepare my liver to shrink down. I hope I have not gained since last visit. How did you do in breaking your caffeine addiction?

So...just out of curiosity, has anyone ever been broken up with due to their WLS? I was seeing a guy for a couple of months and he broke it off because he "couldn't deal with all my dietary restrictions." WTF? He claimed it wasn't fun hanging out with someone whose options for dining out were limited and who couldn't drink. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

  19. Started by AshleyMidwife,

I feel like for most, being post op and thinner makes libido soar, but for me I feel like it's waning. I used to be ready to go all the time! Now I feel like I don't have the same drive as before. I am not as self conscience so I don't think it's that. I have lost 40 lbs since dec 2 and am happy about that. Has anyone else experienced this? Does sex drive come back? I thought for sure I'd have even higher libido than before. I will say that being tired due to long work hours and such minimal calories doesn't help things. Help!

Has anyone noticed that since they take vitamins on a daily basis, their nails and hair on legs, arms, etc grow faster? My nails have even been harder and don't break so easily. I would like the leg hair to please fall out. I have to shave every day. I used to go a couple days in between.

One problem I never expected to have after weight loss is that my armpits are now too deep and narrow for standard razors. I have to buy the more expensive bikini razors. Is this just me or is this normal?

  22. Started by Mikki leo,

Hi everyone! My name is Mikki and I am a year into my journey. I had gastric bypass surgery last year in September. Over this year I lost 90 pounds and ideally would like to lose another 90 but over time the weight loss greatly tapers off and I've become lazy and complacent. It's time to get back on track and shed these last pounds but I know I can't go it alone, so I come seeing kindred spirits and support. It's a pleasure to meet all of you very courageous ladies. I look forward to being a part of this group!!

I'm 57 years old and I do love me and having issues with nothing in the past free. What about sexual preferences and not same-sex issues. Bodies his own body, height, weight and maturity? I only love big, tall, strong and equally proportions and not ashamed one day I will wear 3" heels and he should be taller than me and brave enough to love all of me right now. What's the point of waiting for sex in the future with some dream man that will finally notice me as if I'd lower myself and give only the barest amount of relief to anyone not there when I needed male companionship over all else not some flying circus acrobat.

  24. While scrolling through past postings I noticed there is" Guys who started over 400lbs" in the Guys Room. Well I believe if there is" gravy for the ?rooster" there certainly should be "gravy for the? hen " especially those of us with meatier? drumsticks. Are there challenges we face that aren't faced by our 200 lb sisters? Do we tend to lose weight faster or slower than smaller? flock members? Weigh in my sisters, weigh in!

*Caution, Kind of a long read* Hi everyone, I had a my surgery in December 2019 and even before surgery my boyfriend of almost 5 years was very against me having surgery. His question is always "what am I going to gain from you having this surgery?" and he doesn't seem to care at all that losing weight is what is best for me. At my highest weight I was about 10 pounds shy of reaching 300 pounds and he always was very against me getting over 300 pounds and he constantly told me that if I worked out and ate right I could easily lose the weight I wanted to lose on my own (though it is very hard to lose almost 100 pounds on your own with support, i couldn't imagine…

As some of you know, I've been through a recent-ish divorce. After my plastic surgery in Jan my husband got weird, angry, super insecure and borderline abusive. I've started dating again and have met a really nice guy. I have disclosed to him about my WLS but not PS yet. Although my loose skin on my belly and arms is gone and my breasts are perky again, my thighs still show the evidence of my significant weight loss. Plus I've got all my PS scars. I've been seeing this guy for about a month. He is super sweet, funny, smart, and supportive. I'm having him over for dinner tonight at my place for the first time, and I imagine things are likely to progress to wher…

They said we made too much money to get free insurance and we could not afford it. I finally moved back home with my mother & a sister that I do not get along with. Filed for divorce. Finalized Dec of 2019. Had surgery Sept of 2020. I have a TON of resentment toward my ex. He still sees and talks with my kids way more than I get to. I’m 7 months out from my sleeve surgery. My lower tummy is really loose & has started flapping against my body any time I walk fast, jump, dance (like in my kitchen to my favorite music, not anything strenuous), etc. I’m getting really embarrassed at the slapping sound that’s happening now. I was looking into shape wear like Spanx but I didn’t know if that would help my situation. Can I get some advice? Thanks ladies! ?

I’m not talking frequency. I mean has the signal you need to pee changed & has how you pee changed. I need some insight ladies. Since my surgery, I’ve noticed the signal to pee has jumped that gentle nudge stage to the I better go pee & sometime straight to the I need to per NOW stage. I’ve also noticed that my bladder doesn’t fully empty & that there’s sometimes more after a couple of seconds & I think I’m finished - & I’m not talking drips. Is this a post surgery thing, like would they have inserted a catheter during surgery & it’s messed things up? Is it, god forbid, an age thing. Or is it just me? I’ve never had children so that’s n…

Hello, Anyone else's menstrual cycle totally messed up after surgery? I've always been very regular, I have one child (he's 2, I'm 34 for reference). I had my period a few days before surgery, then about 4 weeks later I got another as expected although it was very heavy. About 2 weeks after that I began bleeding again, it was like a light period for a few days and then I've just been bleeding lightly on an and off since then. I mostly see it when I pee and wipe, but sometimes there is breakthrough bleeding as well (it's mostly darker in color). Now I'm due for what should be a regular period but I can't even tell if it's coming because I'm still having irregular…

  33. I’m 6 days post op and because we are supposed to refrain from sex for awhile, instead of waiting to do it traditionally with my husband…we just played around and I masturbated. Usually within a few minutes I can reach an orgasm, but IT DID NOT HAPPEN. We even tried two days in a row…NOTHING. I’m hoping it’s just because I’m still sore and my body is adjusting to coming off the pain meds and not eating as much etc. I’m still aroused, but cannot orgasm. Has anyone experienced this? I hope the feeling of not being hungry isn’t connected to not being able to orgasm.

In the last 3 months I lost 33lbs. I weigh now 187. Im greatful for the weightloss but its torture. Anyone have experience with this? Can I still get back to myhappy place without touching the band?

My husband and I separated a couple months ago and are just waiting on court availability to finalize our divorce. I’ve just started dipping my toe in the dating world. It’s fun on some levels. However, I can’t help but feel a little (probably misplaced) resentment. Suddenly I’m a bit of a hot commodity. While on dating websites before my marriage, when I was 140 lbs heavier, I had few show interest. Now I’m overwhelmed with messages. It kind of messes with my brain to go from someone seen as undesirable to someone desirable. I’m still the same person, just in different packaging I guess. It’s frustrating to realize how much my value as a person was minimized due to my w…

This may sound a bit too personal, but I was wondering if anyone post-op would be willing to share their experiences with birth control? I'm nervous because in the past when I was taking the pill for acne, I gained A LOT of weight. Looking back, I'm pretty convinced it set the spark for my past obesity. I'm dead serious. So...yeah. I definitely don't trust that. But I know there's a lot of other options these days. I've never had to consider birth control for actual birth control until recently, so I thought I'd ask for other's thoughts on the subject. I know this can be a sensitive topic, so I really appreciate anyone who is willing to share their experiences.…

I have always had “bad” periods with at least one day of severe cramps, but since I have had surgery it is now accompanied by waves of nausea. Not unlike pregnancy nausea (nope, not pregnant).
