The Gals' Room

A space for women. Weight loss surgery, health, body changes, or whatever else is on your mind.

  1. Started by SM16,

So I decided not to tell any family about my surgery until I had a date (hopefully scheduling for the first week in May as soon as my 90 days are up!) Well tonight my husband let it slip to his side of the fam over the phone. Apparently they think it’s too dangerous and not worth it. Tomorrow I have to mentally prepare myself to defend my decision in person at a family event and I am just not ready for that. He honestly didn’t think he was doing any harm so I’m not blaming it on him by any means. I just am so frazzled and worried. I could just use a little support and any advice on how others handled these types of situations.

Hello fellow ladies! I'm sure this topic has been covered A LOT on this forum, but I thought I'd post anyways. So, I'm 31 years old and have never been physically intimate with anyone before in my life. I've certainly done my sharing of dating, but in the past, it seems men were either only interested in me because I was heavy or they lost interest fast because I was heavy. I couldn't win, so naturally, I never ended up in a relationship and physical intimacy never happened. Anyways, I've been seeing someone, and (dare I say?) it is actually going amazing and is starting to get pretty serious. However, I have my...concerns. Although I'm happy and am sta…

OK ladies, so this might be a weird question, but since the weight loss surgery I've noticed that I've developed some "squish (loose skin)." It's not nearly as bad as I'd thought it was going to be, which is good, but yet, it's bad enough wear it's difficult finding panties that fit...in a way that flatter me? I suppose that's the best way to put it. Is shape wear the only answer to this problem or are there specific brands, styles, materials that can be recommended? I hope my weird question makes sense...

Hi all, I am pre-op but my mobility is really slowing down. I have been noticing for awhile that my flexibility was steadily getting worse. What I have to do to tie my shoes is ridiculous, and getting down (let alone back up) from the floor is a tragic thing to do, let alone have witnesses. I know that most of that is due to my weight and where my weight is. For 9 months know I have been struggling is terrible knee weakness and pain. I got an under the desk cycle thing which is helping with the pain some and I do feel better that I am getting more exercise and movement. I know it is not much - but it is a lot more than I am used to doing. Going for long …

Hi there! I have been snooping on this website and reading tons of posts. I have made the decision and started the paperwork to talk with a surgeon for weightloss surgery. I choose the Gal's Rooms as my first stop to say hello and let you know that many of you - are so inspirational and motivational! Thank you!! I don't speak out often and rarely jump in and say howdy - but all of the threads and replies made me excited to join in. I am not completely sure if I want the Duodenal Switch or the RNY Gastric Bypass. My mom had the RNY back in 2003 and has done so great with it. After I meet with the surgeon, I am sure that we will figure the best surgery for…

I have struggled with my weight since I was five years old. Late in 2016- at 28 years old at my heaviest weight- I had my first appointment with a bariatric surgeon in Akron, Ohio where I live and began the steps towards gastric bypass. I was so scared. But I knew that I would rather risk my life than live like this forever. I feared that my parents would bury me in 20 years and that my sister would become an only child. I knew I had to do something. I had tried everything. Between the ages of 8-28 I had tried everything under the sun. I could not lose/maintain the weight loss. On June 26, 2017- I had gastric bypass surgery. I have lost/maintained 180 pound weight los…

I feel silly asking this. I love fruity lip balm & I use it a few times everyday. Has anyone found that fruity or other food flavored (cinnamon roll, etc.) lip balms make you crave food? I’m wondering if I should switch to unflavored.

I had my Sleeve surgery on 11/25/2020. I am writing to see if anyone has had this pain I had recently. I had a bowl movement almost 10 days after surgery. It was somewhat painful but got through it. The next next weeks movement was more painful. It took 2 days to move all of it from in me. This weeks movement was the worst pain I have dealt with ever in my life!! It was like passing rocks! I have never been so scared about hurting myself, like my suture inside or straining to hard. I drank some Dulcolax and it didn't help. I drank a ton of fluids thinking that it might help, but sadly it did not. I had gas that I couldn't pass because it was even painful. I finall…

Hey ladies, I discovered a really wonderful and unexpected side effect of surgery. I used to get horrific PMS cramps. The entire week before my period was me using machines, pain killers, hot baths, heating pads-anything and everything to stop the pain. I saw dozens of doctors and they all didn't know what to do. Sometimes it would be so bad I would be feverish and couldn't even go to work. Post surgery this stopped. I now get very minor pain that a painkiller can stop. If I had known that bariatric surgery could stop this I would have done the surgery years ago. I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced this?

Has anyone had an abdominal hernia repair and tummy tuck at the same time? I had abdominal hernia repair 4 months before my VSG and it’s not right. My lower abdomen has been extremely distended since the surgery, even with a 66 pound weight loss. Just want to hear anyone else’s experience. Thanks!

I am a just over two years out and I have gained 40 pounds back. After surgery I had no complications. Nothing made me sick, there was no food that I couldn't eat or that I couldn't tolerate. I did good for a little over a year then I hit a rough patch in life and went completely downhill. I was craving and eating sweets like it was nothing, I was drinking again and often, I quit taking my vitamins regularly. I was taken off of my depression and anxiety meds and put on Vyvanse. It seemed to be working for a while. The transition from my regular meds to Vyvanse happened right before I had surgery so of course, it helped me losing weight. I lost 114 pounds. Then all of a su…

I started the pre-op diet on 9/2 and ever since then I have been fighting with myself to not go put one of the frozen pizzas in the oven and eating the whole thing before my husband gets up for the day. I feel sick about it because I am doing so good on the diet, but that craving just won't leave me. What would you do? I can't get rid of the pizzas cause my husband will want them soon.....

  27. Hi, I apologize in advance if this is TMI. I had my sleeve done December 2105. Prior to my sleeve I wanted to have sex anytime, anywhere, etc. Since my surgery I have not had the desire. I am dry and it takes a while to have an orgasm sometimes I do not reach climax. I have seen topics on the board in which other women are having this issue but not seen where anyone indicates there was resolution. This post is meant for women in which their libido has decreased and has not returned. No offense it is not intended for women in which "oh my sex drive is through the roof since surgery". 30. Started by kc892020,

Hello to all my fellow ladies! OK, I'm not entirely sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this, but I thought I'd try. I've been struggling with PCOS for several years now. As far as WLS is concerned, I'm being told two things about PCOS. On one hand, my surgeon is telling me that in his experience, PCOS goes away in women who successfully complete and keep the weight off after surgery. On the other hand, my OB-GYN is telling me she doesn't think it will change anything other than I won't have to take Metformin anymore. She says I'll most likely still have to take Aldactone, Progesterone and Inositol even after WLS. However, it's also worth noting she's menti…

Ladies, I need help! I am afraid that I am due to get my period right around my scheduled surgery date next week! I have been off the birth control pill that is used to control my heavy flow. Will this impact surgery (please tell me it won't prevent moving forward with the surgery)? As it is my PMS and cycle time is a horrible mess of hormones and emotions, what should I expect?

I am concerned about my hair loss I had thick long curly hair before surgery and now I am loosing so much of my hair that is more upsetting than loose skin. They become brittle and Matt. I am taking all my vitamins and I was taking them post op too. I dont know what else I can do to help my hair. Any advice?

Hi my name is Jennifer i am new here. I had my gastric sleeve surgery done on September 11th of 2018. Well since this stay in home thing, i have gained some weight and i am not liking it one bit. And my husband is home all the time now since his disability got approved, and i dont like doing things in front of people no matter who they are including my mom, i am weird i know. But my question is how can i lose weight, should i do high protein drinks for a week and nothing else or should i do the post op steps all over again?

  35. I have been reading online a lot about this. I have been taking Dyflucan, and it only goes away for a couple of days. There seem to be a bunch of home remedies like taking garlic capsules, and grape fruit extract. I take Probiotics and eat the yogurt with the live bacteria. I am about to lose my mind. I do everything I am supposed to including going without underwear at home. The over the counter creams and suppositories don't seem to help at all and actually seem to make it hurt worse. I am just wondering if anyone else has had one they can't get rid of?

It’s been almost 10 months since my gastric sleeve surgery. I’m really excited that I’ve lost almost 90 pounds! Oddly enough my skin seems drier and Even more sensitive than before the surgery. Before the surgery I used to get rashes and yeast infections under my breasts and behind my knees. Now behind my knees are so itchy and dry. I will admit that I need to drink more water and this probably why my skin is so dry. Has anyone else experienced this? Even the skin on my belly is itchy.

My periods have always been irregular. Before today, I hadn't had my period in over 150 days. I was diagnosed with PCOS around August last year. I was told weight loss and exercise were my only hopes of salvation. I get pretty bad back pain, so I don't exercise very much, but I try to here and there. I've been really working on my weight loss since December through dieting. This past week, I have not lost ANYTHING. My diet is all the same **** I normally eat and I may even be moving more now than previously. Went to the bathroom today and found out I had a surprise visit from Aunt Flo (on Valentine's Day, no less - perfect timing, as usual). Now I am sitting here, …

I'm crying one minute, pissed off the next then laughing hysterically. I'm wondering if I'm losing my mind or if it's the beginning of some hormonal changes. [emoji20] [emoji4]

I keep thinking about this topic and where to discuss it even though it’s not directly related to bariatric surgery at the same time it is in a way connected. I always waffle between trying to think about something and just not being able to think about it until it happens, I guess I’m just a cat ... you know how for cats it’s whatever is in that moment is everything and they don’t really perceive tomorrow. I don’t think I am even worried about it, I won’t know until the day arrives how I will feel. But I do need to at least confront the issue. Right? I guess a brief backstory is in 2010 (age 35) I had a hysterectomy, they took everything except my ovaries. I …
