Hiatal hernia discovered during gastric sleeve surgery. I chose the sleeve because of a rare disease that I have. When the surgeon went in to perform my surgery 2 days ago, he discovered the hernia. Has anyone one else has this happen? And then NOT had problems with gerd, reflux after surgery. The surgeon was bit worried that I may need to get the bypass. No GI problems at all in last couple days. Crossing my fingers.

Wondering what is the normal or average experience. I most likely will need a gastric bypass revision surgery, because of stricture issues after sleeve. I’m wondering what I should expect as normal after What is a normal bite full for you? (I currently can only eat a portion similar to a is your limit for food, 1 cup? Currently I can maybe do 1/4 Anything off limits? I currently can’t eat meat unless it’s a crumb size, pills stick, more than tiny sips hurt. Hoping there is a light at the end of this and I can be someone normal. I’m ok with eating less, and also no junk....I just want a normal meal...veggies.,,,meat...... a salad would be heaven

I FEEL HORRIBLE today. I can feel congestion in my chest building up and I have a sore throat. I also very sleepy. I called my surgeon to ask what kinds of meds are ok and he told me it's 100% safe for me to take any medicine now that I am 3 months out. I feel seriously run down. Normally, the rare occasions that I've gotten sick, I've been ok, like able to work through it . Has anyone noticed this themselves? Any advise on taking care of myself with my new sleeve- besides fluids! Lol that's always a rule when you're sick.

O.k, I know this may sound dumb, but I just realized that for the past two months I’ve been taking Calcium carbonate instead of calcium citrate - how bad is this? (I was sleeved 6/12, took calcium citrate for a month then calcium carbonate from then until now)

Over the last two weeks the same issue has occured. If I'm in direct sunlight either walking around or sitting in my yard for only 20 - 60 minutes I feel so sick to the point I feel like I'm going to pass out. This happens in temperature ranges of 70 - upper 80's. Has this ever happened to anyone? I use to have this issue when I underwent chemotherapy. I would get dehydrated very fast. That being said I drink water with electrolytes all day long. Could it be from how little food intake that you can dehydrate faster? I was looking into the product Liquid IV. It helps with dehydration. Has anyone tried it?

I started the bariatric program a year and a half ago, and bailed out at the time for a handful of reasons (excuses.) Recently I decided that if I keep waiting for the right time to do this, it will never come, and I took the leap and asked to join the bariatric program again. They called me yesterday and scheduled my nutrition class, and my support group meetings. I already did the orientation, So I don't have to take that again. I'm nervous. Not necessarily for the surgery itself, but the possibility of regain, cosmic life changes, and how it will change the way I live life daily. What is/was everyone's fears prior to surgery? If you've had the surgery, how did you ha…

Hi! New to this but hoping this forum will help. I am 3 mos post op VSG and I am the worst loser! My starting weight on surgery day was 286 lbs (my heighest weight was 312 lbs). At 8 weeks, I had lost 16 lbs. That doesn't seem like much? I did have a 10 period of constipation that put me in the ER for 7 hours one day. And I didn't eat anything at all for 3 days during that time. But since then, I've actually gained 3 lbs at my 3 mos. checkup last week. My surgeon was genuinely disappointed and surprised. One of my problems is that NOTHING bothers my stomach - I can literally eat anything. And quantity seems to be a non-issue as well. And I've definitely fallen …

Hey everyone, I'm glad I found this forum. I had my gastric sleeve on the 5th of August, so I'm 6 weeks post-op now. My healing went well, not much pain and fast recovery. But there is one thing that's stressing me out a bit - I'm able to eat quite a bit of food. I average around 1100-1200 calories per day since 4 weeks post-op, on one day I was even able to eat 1400 calories. I can easily eat 7-8oz (200-220gr) of food per meal, even if it consists of chicken with veggies. From what I read about what others eat, my amount seems to be quite a lot in comparison. I eat very healthy foods, so not filling up my calories with junk. I eat apples, bananas, kidney beans,…

Sorry to be dramatic, but I recently lost my job & I have found myself binge eating... I'm almost a year post-op (sleeve), so my binges are smaller/less drastic than they were, but this is terrifying behavior for me. Please, please, does anyone have any suggestions? I am trying to be cognizant, trying to "avoid" those foods I know are not good for me.... I hate seeing it, but I religiously log EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth, so I feel like I am not completely giving up. Please, anyone been here? Any advice? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!! I searched through gummy vitamin posts, but couldn’t seem to find an answer. I’m 15 months post-op from gastric sleeve and just wondered if it’s ever safe to go back to my gummy vitamins I used prior to surgery? Are they ok if you chew them to death before swallowing when you’re this far out from surgery or is it a never again sort of rule with gummies? Thanks so much for any advice!!!??

Hi! I was on here long ago just after post op. I got away from it and then after some not so wonderful life events I'm back! I have lost 140lbs! But I have about 100 left to lose. Wondering if you might be able to give me some tips on getting back into the right way to eat. I have some major digestive issues and I know it's cause I'm not eating correctly. I don't eat alot or anything like that. Last year at checkup after 5 years they confirmed all is well and my stomach hasn't stretched at all since surgery. So I'm good to go! So hit me with your tactics if you don't mind! I can do this and I will be here to support you as you are supporting me in this life long journey! …

I’m a month out tomorrow and I’ve lost 51lbs. I’m on stage purée but I can’t bring myself to eat any of it. I tried drinkable yogurt but it makes my stomach all gassy and gurgle-I’m afraid I’m lactose intolerant now. Same thing happens with SF popsicles and SF jello. I thought those things were supposed to be a given ??♀️ Can anyone inspire me with something to enjoy eating err drinking? I bought a fancy mixer just to be able to have things but I’m not about to blend tuna like my binder says ? Help!

I have been a thick girl my entire life. I had the lap band in 2012 and lost 80 pounds but gained 30 back. The band has been nothing but a complication. So I am having it removed and replaced with the sleeve. I am nervous ? that I will loose too much weight and become skinny. My husband and I want me to be healthy. I’m am in tears over being skinny. I know this seems weird but I am really nervous. I have always been thick and afraid for how I will look after. What I I don’t like what I see what if I hate myself. I even cried today due to this fear. This is me now the second picture at 230 and the first one is at my lowest weight 186. My doctor wants me down to 130 I j…

I got the call this afternoon from my surgeon’s office with my surgery date - December 2nd! I will be on the preop diet on Thanksgiving, but I’m so excited right now, I could care less! It just occurred to me that we’ll be on vacation with several couples for New Years, and I’ll be on the purée stage, how interesting is this going to be?

How is it going for you? Have you had any problems at almost 3 weeks post op? How much is your intake and what stage are you on? Have any of you tried Protein Bars or Protein chips/crackers? It’s going ok for me, since i been advanced to soft/solids foods I haven’t felt or seen a difference. I can only eat up to 4oz. Not sure if I’m having too much or what. It also depends on what I’m having it’s 2-4 Oz. Do you weigh or measure with measuring cups? I was just curious on how i was doing so I stepped on the scale and I gained 1.6lbs, hoping I’m just retaining Water. I also have been having trouble with bowel movements since on stage 3. I know stay off the scale, …

Hi all, It's been 3 weeks since my sleeve surgery and I have only lost 11 lbs (260 to 249) I have been vigilant in my diet and everything I've read says that most people lose around 30-40 lbs the first month. I have been walking and tolerating everything ok except the one laparoscopic incision that they put stitches in (lower right hand side) has healed on the outside but has continued to burn when I get up from sitting or laying down. Has anyone else had these issues?

Alright so, I'm a 29 year old female, I suffer from High Blood Pressure at this age (so upsetting), Diabetes. I have gone through the 6 month program at my clinic and I'm approved for surgery. My A1c is above 8 right now, so I'm just working on getting that lowered to ~8 at my next blood test, and I'm good to go to get sleeved. Now call me an idiot or a coward, but I am scared to get GERD after the surgery. I know, it sounds so stupid, for Christ's sake I have high blood pressure and Diabetes already, but I feel like if I go through something so drastic as to cut out 70% of my stomach, I just don't want to accumulate other diseases like GERD and still be bound to take med…

Good Day folks, Yesterday afternoon I had half a handful of cocoa roasted almonds as a snack. Normally, no issue eating these, but after I did so in a hurry while rushing out the door, I've had this "stuck" feeling in my stomach/esophagus ever since. I had dinner normally and I drank a ton of water, but yet this morning, the feeling still persists. I know most of you are not medical professionals but thought I'd reach out to someone who may have had a similar experience going through the same process. If it persists, I'll call the doctor, but it's annoying as hell. Think I scratched my esophagus or something? Thanks

As with most overweight people I suffered from hypo thyroid. However I am now at 205 lbs instead of 343 lbs and my hypo thyroid is now hyper. I got off the synthroid for a week. I wasn't sleeping at all and quite jittery. So then cut the tablets in half. Here I am tonight again and feel like I am on speed because everything is racing. Anyone else experience this? Do any of you wear a shoe size smaller than what you did before surgery or at the start of your weight loss journey? I'm a size 10 right now, I'm hoping that after surgery, and I lose all my weight (130-150lbs - which is a strict goal of mine) that I will drop a shoe size to 9 or 8.5. Was wondering if this is possible, I am 5'7, and feel like size 10 W is not feminine for a woman Hoping to get down to a more normal size feet wise. Would like to hear your stories.. thanks

Before I had the VGS surgery I was lactose intolerant and would have to take Lactaid supplements before eating dairy foods. Post-surgery I seem to tolerate dairy foods a little better but I still experience bloating. I sometimes feel my sleeve expanding after I eat dairy foods. Dairy foods are a great source of protein so I refuse to give it up! Anyone else have a similar experience?

I'm a bit over 2 months out, and moved to college a few weeks ago. This means I have a lot easier access to unhealthy foods, including some of the foods I used to binge on (pizza, hero subs, cake and ice cream, burgers, etc). I'm not doing too bad with eating protein and resisting, but it's starting to wear on me. I want a burger! With a big fluffy bun! and i want cheese pizza! warm and gooey. I want barbeque chips and breakfast sandwiches! How do I handle these cravings? I feel like if I go and have some I might eat all of it. I'm scared if i eat any of this it'll make me sick and I'll dump. HELP

I am 6 weeks post sleeve. Today I had extensive hemroid surgery. My hope is that I will heal quickly and my body will get back to loosing weight. I am getting water and protein in. First 2 weeks post sleeve I lost 15 pounds. Past month I have lost 3-4 pounds. Does this seem low? Could constipation be contributing to slow lost? GVS 210 7/23/19 CW. 192 New_Me 2019

It is near the end of my first day of the 14 day pre-op liquid diet for VSG. My boyfriend is making hamburgers and eating hummus and it sucks. I am continuously reminding myself that yes this will be a stuggle for 2 weeks but I re-remind myself that I have struggled for all of my adult life. 2 weeks is nothing on 7 years or on the rest of my life that I will live. Is there any advice or tips/tricks that will make this a bit easier? Anything is helpful, thanks!

I'm just exploring new foods and tried tuna yesterday. It tasted great and went down just fine, but this morning I couldn't leave the bathroom for about an hour. I had the runs really bad. Does that mean that tuna should be off my food list? I know some folks will get nauseous or throw up, but does it also cause diarrhea if it is a food you shouldn't eat? Not eating tuna today will be waiting for some sage advice.
