Hi guys, I’m almost 3 weeks post op and when sleeping at night experience a pain or discomfort like something is expanding in my chest. It comes back and forth and sometimes is minor, but last night was more uncomfortable. I don’t know if it’s because my spouse sleeps with the air conditioner really cold, or I sleep with my mouth open but it keeps me waking up. Anyone else experience anything similar?

Struggling with shakes. My surgery center requires the new directions brand of shakes. Plus that you’re only allowed water, broth, and decaffeinated tea. I am struggling with the shakes which I have struggled with the entire time with the program for the six months. I just cannot get over the taste. They are horrible to me. And it doesn’t matter which Friday I have tried they are all just bad. She said to get in three a day. I am struggling to get one in a day. How doable is it to get to that goal weight? Current weight: 280 Goal weight: 150 DREAM weight : 120-130 My psychiatrist out of all people said that you should aim to see 60-70% weight loss of excess weight. But all the stories that I see, and experiences that I read, the majority of people are able to hit even 80-100% of losing excess weight. What can I do to be one of those? If you are one of those people who has lost all of their excess weight, please do share details on what you did. I plan to be a copy cat and do the same thing, my surgery is next month.

I need some straight talk. I'm considering getting the sleeve, but I'm worried about whether or not I will be able to live with it. while I do want t lose weight, I can't even imagine it so it is hard to have an attitude that I will sacrifice anything for it. One concern is the food. If you are a foodie like me (I love food but I'm good with small amounts of it), how hard is it to live with this surgery? There is a lot of confusing information around. My potential surgeon says after 2 months, you can eat "normally" just smaller amounts. That sounds fantastic, but it doesn't jive with a lot of what I've read/heard. Some people indicate that they can't have carb…

I've been struggling with the slowest weight loss and longest stall ever in history (being a little dramatic, but still...). I'm not very close to my own chosen goal, and my therapist suggested I compare what my goal is compared to my program's. I dug out my paperwork, and the program's goal for me is 18 pounds heavier. I see a lot of people here with a similar height to mine that have a goal weight of 50 pounds or more less than mine. So I'm just curious, where did everyone's listed goal weight come from? Thanks everyone.

Hi everyone! I’m new but I’ve finished all my requirements for Cigna. Now just waiting for approval. I’m 42 years old, mother of 2 girls and 1 grandson, they are my world. I finally made decision to have this surgery. Have lots of health issues. Thyroid cancer, Hypothyroidism,Type 2 diabetes, severe sleep apnea, Are just a few, other than of course my inability to keep the weight off. I’m nervous and excited all at the same time! Anesthesia scares me as I’m allergic to one type of it. Kinda been just watching the posts and reading everyone’s experiences. Anyway super excited that I get to share this with people that understand!

On the 19th of this month I will be 4 months post op. I only weigh myself once a week just so I won't become obsessed with the numbers but I did notice that my last few weigh ins have been the exact same weight. Pounds and ounces. Exactly the same. Is this yet another stall or at 4 months am I through losing? How is it possible to weigh exactly the same down to the ounces for weeks?

How many of you have done one or more of the following? Not that I want to share or promote any bad habits, I just want to know that it will be okay if we don't live our lives like a schedule making sure we do everything to the dot each and every single day for the rest of our lives. Sometimes things come up, or we fall off track for short periods of time, but that it will be okay if it occurs sometimes accidentally....any thoughts? For example Skipped taking vitamins everyday because they forgot etc... Drank while eating a meal Took an NSAID here or there for a particular reason Didn't get in their daily protein intake Ate out for most of th…

Question: Would you enter a brand new car you purchased into a Daytona 500 race? No So why would you start going to the gym shortly after getting a new stomach? If that worked for you (going to the gym) before surgery, why are you still obese? I haven't had surgery yet but I was into fitness/exercise before my slip/fall injury 2.5 years ago which has brought me to my August 27th VSG surgery. I've seen several posts of individuals wondering why their weight loss has stalled after 1 month because their lifting weights and going to the gym almost every day. Ask yourself, "What am I burning off?". You are taking in during your first month less than 500-600 calorie…

It has been two weeks and I've met my first "mini" goal! Yes, I've missed food but I also want this very bad. I had my follow up and staple removal yesterday and was told no wine for my birthday, in September, but a small glass for my husband's in December would be ok. I have to remember I didn't get in this weight mess in two weeks and it won't go away in two weeks. It is a journey, I know this as I made this trip with the lap band 10 years ago. I also realize when you are as large as I was no one will notice until I lose a lot! The little victories that I have noticed, both feet easily go on the scale, I can go up the front steps without pulling myself up, my knees …

This question may sound a bit weird but, it's more targeted towards people who have had sleeve for around 5+ years now: Do you guys feel like you have a "physically" normal life, day, feeling? I mean a day like it was before you had the sleeve. My main concern is that I will feel like I will need to remind myself that I have the sleeve every single day for the rest of my life. Not that I want to forget about it, or it's precautions/healthy habits, but just that I feel normal and fine, but just eat less than I used to. Does anyone feel like their normal self like they did before surgery? Or is everyday another little issue that goes on with GERD, Dumping, vomiting etc. …

Howdy sleevers! My weight has stabilised at about 69kg over the past 5-6 months, and an opportunity came up with my plastic surgeon to take a cancellation surgery place (with 1 weeks notice) for last Tuesday 6th August for my first planned skin removal, FDL tummy tuck, and I went for it I had been set to get this operation at end of November. I got home late yesterday after 5 days in hospital, and with 1 central drain still in place until I see my surgeon for follow up on Tuesday. Very happy with how my tummy is looking so far, and post op pain is being managed with panadol and some endone still. My waist was quite small before the op, but looks REEAAALLY ti…

Today is exactly 8 months since my VSG surgery. I haven't lost as much weight as I had hoped to be this point, but I got back my first lab results since having the sleeve done and I am reflecting on how much healthier I am now than 8 months ago. Since having the WLS I have gotten rid of several co-morbidities: no more high blood pressure, no more sleep apnea, no more GERD, no more acid reflux. These are the best lab results I have EVER had! My triglycerides 18 months ago were 353 and now they're just 104! I'm not pre-diabetic anymore! I'm having no trouble absorbing vitamins . . . in fact they're way above the range where they should be, so I'm super-a…

Hi, my name is Tammi and I am new to the group. I had my sleeve surgery on the 31st of July. So far everything has gone pretty good. I was just curious, I was told I would have a lot of nausea after the surgery and the Dr prescribed meds for me. However I have not been at all. I'm very happy about it, but is that normal?

Hello...I'm so thankful that there are resources out there for us. I look forward to getting advice from you all. I'm doing pretty great so far. That "lump in my throat" feeling I had when I swallowed from the air they pump into you is pretty much gone...thank goodness. That was the most uncomfortable thing but smaller sips pretty much took care of it. I'm excited about this journey.

Ok, I am being serious. At the end of my first week on pureed foods I was craving the Chinese food flavors. So I ordered Chicken and Vegs in brown sauce and asked the lady for extra sauce (I told her I had to put in blender so she laughed and said no problem) Other that it looking strange when all blended it tasted heavenly I'm only eating 3 ounces in a meal so I have to put over half of it in the freezer as it will last me over a week. I figure since it's just 3 oz, it can't be too many calories, any thoughts ?

Question: Do you have a WLS team once you are recovering back in the US? How does that work when you have your surgery outside of your insurance? Does your insurance allow you to have a specialized WL team in the US through your paperwork from Mexico of your procedure or wherever you went to continue long term care/support? Just curious & asking for a friend whose insurance would not cover her but she doesn't want to be denied a support team here if needed. Thanks!

So I had my surgery 12-31-18 and I have lost 110 pounds so far. I’m still about 40-50 away from my goal and I haven’t lost any weight in about a month. Im not gaining but I’m not loosing. I’m drinking all my Water. Taking all my Vitamins and working out. I’m also still losing my hair pretty bad. I guess I’m in a stall. How do I resolve this y’all?

Hello everyone, After being on the outside looking in for this page for the past few months (gathering info and people's reviews and such), I decided to sign up for the forum and just wanted to introduce myself: I'm Greg, 36 from NJ, and I am 5 weeks out from having gastric sleeve by Dr. Abkin in NJ. I had been thinking of the idea for quite awhile (as I've had trouble losing weight my whole adult life with a combination of anxiety/depression, and regardless of how much I exercised or how little I ate), and decided to take the plunge in March. I'm down 27 since the date of my consult and 18 since by surgery. It's a process and I'm battling hunger and …

Today was my first day of "full liquids" and I had a 1/2 c. of fat-free cream of chicken soup. I heard the angels sing. I'm going to try some tonight as I still can't sleep. I've averaged about 4 hours a night. Horrid dreams and just restless. Last night it took 90 minutes to go to sleep. This too shall pass.

Shortly after my sleeve almost 4 months ago, when I first started eating solid food, I got "the foamies" where I would get an uncomfortable rolling cramping feeling in my stomach and have to throw up foamy mucus. I learned about "the foamies" here on BariatricPal and knew it meant I was trying to eat a food that I wasn't yet able to tolerate, like soft tortillas or steak. But today I was just having salmon, which I've had a dozen times since surgery without incident. Maybe I ate too fast? What causes you have to have "the foamies?"

I ended up sick a few weeks ago and threw up for a couple of days. I've noticed since then I get this occasional spasm-like feeling in my stomach. I can literally see it jerk. It's almost like my stomach gets hiccups. It can last a few minutes to maybe a half hour then goes away. Its happened a good half dozen times. Its not painful just odd. My illness may not of had anything to do with it, but I worried with the act of vomiting maybe I pulled something or god forbid, damaged something. Have any of you ever experienced this?

Since I have been on full liquids, I have been starting to crave real food and creating my own creamy soups with straining out the bits of food. I hope this helps some of you who want something tasty besides protein. 1 can Campbell’s 98% Broccoli and Cheese Soup 1 package of Bear Creek Potato Soup Mix 1 quart of chicken stalk I mixed the broccoli and cheese soup with 1 cup chicken stock for a creamy soup, then added 2 tbsp of the potato soup mix and brought all to a boil. Once it was done, I strained it and enjoyed my easy and tasty dinner. There should at least be a cup Leftover for tomorrow. This was quick, easy and helped with craving home cooked meals.

So, I just had Surgery last Monday 7/29/19. I had a hiatal hernia repair, removal of lap band and sleeve gastrectomy all at once. I went home Tuesday, vomited blood and foam all day but was much better Wednesday-Saturday. Yesterday, was the worst! I could not urinate without my bladder convulsing or going into a spasm. It was so painful because since I was already constipated, the spasm cause my stool to force out as well leading into more pain. I know this is a lot of information but feel that it could be helpful to anyone who cannot urinate, and when they try have a spasm that forces the urine while in horrible pain. I went to the ER since my doctor’s office was cl…
