  1. Started by AnnParker,

Has anyone with a sleeve experienced malabsorption? I know it's common with gastric bypass, but not with the sleeve. I had a sleeve in Feb 2010 and have been having some problems (pain in right side, pain in back on right side) and my gastroenterologist did a fecal fat test which came back positive for fat malabsorption. My hair is falling out and I am exhausted all the time. I take my vitamins, but I don't think my body id absorbing them. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this. I sure hoe so. Thanks for listening.

  4. Started by Jdymitc,

I was sleeved on 7/15. I am having difficulty getting my protein in as I hate the taste of most shakes that I’ve tried. On my surgeons plan I on purées but am not hungry. I can eat like a Greek yogurt for lunch and maybe a bite or two later for dinner. I am doing okay with my water everyday. Now I am having problems sleeping I get like 4-5 hours a night. I am trying to get enough steps in every day. Anyone have any suggestions on things I can do better (I have an appointment with my team Friday and plan to discuss all this with them but am hoping for some help in the meantime)

I’ve looked every where for the costs associated with Dr. Liza Marie Pompa at LIMARP and can’t find what she charges. Can any past patients tell about their experience with her, as well as what they were charged?

Hey All! New here and have already found all of you so helpful. I stumbled across here a few days ago and I’m so glad I did. I am one week post op and had an appt with my doctor during the week but forgot to ask some questions. I know they told me I could only shower, no baths or pool, but I was never told how long this restriction is for. Does anyone know any specific guidelines you were told for this? I appreciate any information you have! Again, thanks in advance for all your help!

I am 4 months out and I genuinely have no desire to eat meat nor do I enjoy meals anymore. I’d much prefer snacking or snack foods. Sitting down for a meal isn’t appealing and most of the time I find it hard to digest a meal. When I snack on fruit or veggies, I’m fine. Anyone else deal with this or deal with food not being appealing? I’m so concerned because I know I don’t get my protein in, but the thought of meat and even protein drinks makes my stomach churn! I guess this is what happens to your taste buds after surgery? Any suggestions on how to make meals more appealing, especially protein?

Hey Everyone! I am about 7 weeks out and I am just curious how much everyone is/was eating around that time. My nutritionist had a goal of 1/2 cup for me at the 6 week mark, and I am totally full at 2.5-3 ounces. That is even eating slowly over 30-40 minutes. I really have no desire to eat, but I do make sure to get my minimum recommended protein (60g) a day. Most days I am disciplined enough to get over 75 grams. When will I be interested in eating again!?!?!

  10. Started by Honi,

My HW was 216 (I'm 5'3") and that's how much I weighted when I began my 1 week liquid pre-op. Date of surgery my SW was 209. Here I am 7 weeks post-op (surgery June 21) and I've been stalled at around 193. I'm logging on my fitness pal, same place I logged when I lost 30 lbs in 4 months a few years ago. I went back to look at that weight loss which had NO stalls and averaged 2 lbs a week. And last year I went to Weight Watchers for 10 weeks and lost average of 1.5 lbs a week (until I quit LOL). Again NO stall at WW, either. Both times I recently lost consistantly week after week, and not I had 70+% of my stomach removed & I'm losing ZERO. I just feel so disappointed. …

I am having a hard time trying to decide to have the gastric sleeve. I had the lap band and only lost about 20 lbs. I threw up all the time and the band slipped and had to have it removed. That was about 5 years ago. Has anyone had a bad experience with the gastric sleeve?

Anyone with the sleeve on zyprexa and lost normally? I had 1 dr told me to ask to get off it b/c it is a weight gainer, and another dr said if it works fine for me I should stay on it. thanks. FYI i'm taking it to manage bipolar symptoms.

Hello! I had the sleeve procedure on 07/23/19, along with a hiatal hernia removed. That’s 5 days ago, so I know I shouldn’t be expecting much from myself. I’m curious though if anyone else experienced these things? My stomach feels like I’m hungry, but I try to eat, and don’t eat much. It feels like my stomach is always in “growl” mode. My incisions are still sore. I’m nervous I’m going to pop them when I cough or sneeze. How long do they feel this way? How long does it feel like things are moving around in my stomach when I go from a lying down position to standing up? I was in the ER today due to dehydration so I need to work on staying hydrated Anyone else c…

Hi everyone! I am a February 2019 sleever and I'm down 100 lbs! Yay! But now at 6 months...the scale has been going up. It's about 6 lbs higher than what I weighed at my lowest. I have been introducing new foods and I recently got injured at the gym so I've just been doing cardio... has anyone experienced this at 6 months? A stall or weight gain? Also...what were you eating at 6months? I really just want to take this time as an opportunity and not go backwards. Thank you!!

So 2 years ago right now they were rolling me into surgery. My first ever time being put under and first ever overnight in a hospital since birth. Would i do it again? yes in a heart beat do i have Any regrets? No I believe i would be dead right now if not for this surgery. All of my health markers were headed down and the rate of decline was increasing. I owe Paula Duclo, Physician Assistant, my life for the day she walked in and asked if i would consider weight loss surgery. That started a nine month journey that she helped me navigate. Did the first weeks suck? Yes. Liquid diets and mushy soft food diets are not fun or interesting but those wee…

Hi All, Just wondering how many calories should I be consuming after 2 years post surgery I still have about 70 lbs to lose?

  21. I lost around 5 1/2 stone in a year, but in the last year I have slowly crept up and im so so worried about it. All week I have been having juices and soups but I cant seem to lose any, so I get upset and start snacking on silly things! I am so petrified I am going to put it all back on. Has any one got any food plan ideas? or suggestions?

  22. Started by Jazzy1125,

Just plowed through my first stall! It lasted about 3 weeks and finally broke this past weekend. I am not sure what caused it. I know i should count my lucky stars for being this far out and just now hitting one. I am hoping i still lose this coming week but maybe it was a fluke that the scale moved. i did however lose inches.. I went down to a size 12 yesterday. Thought i was going to die LOL.

Looks like I'm going to have to have it removed. has anybody else had this issue post op? is it common? I started throwing up out of nowhere last week. and I have NOT thrown up at all since my sleeve surgery in December. what was your down time like? recovery? time off work? the timing could not be worse! I am supposed to start a new position on August 15th. I may now miss out on this opportunity. UGH

Is it ok to take a fat burning supplement after surgery? I’m 5 months out today. Im talking about ones from GNC or Total Nutrition, not anything like hydroxycut. Does anyone else use any? What is safe and effective? Thanks in advance!

Has anyone tried it? on paper it look ideal but it has only recently been approved for use as a sweetener so there is not alot of data on it. I use splenda now and its not ideal, it also doesnt make me vomit and pass a bad after taste like some others. If you have not tried monkfruit? what do you use as a sweetener?

I had my surgery May 1st. My beginning weight was 193 and I’m down to 150. I get in my protein and water. But, I’m addicted to the sugar free popsicles. I eat around 12 -14 a day. They are like an addiction to me!

  28. Started by Awesome1981,

So I am almost 5 weeks post sleeve and I am nauseous all the time. I can only tolerate clear liquids still and maybe a spoon or two of yogurt a day. I am getting no protein and no other nutrients really. I have tried every med for nausea known to man and even a sea band. Nothing helps. Has anyone had this experience this far out? I am beginning to worry and now really regret this surgery.

One thing I wish I would have asked my Dr. before my surgery is what bougie size he was using for my sleeve. My restriction seems really good but it would be nice to know what size he used and I will be bringing it up at my next visit. Do you guys know yours?

  30. i’m 6 months post-op and for the first 6 months i was barely eating. i got really full really fast but i never questioned it because that’s how it’s supposed to be, right? your body TELLS you when you’ve had enough, and i felt full and healthy so i never really thought twice. i went on a REALLY long stall (over a month), and i only started to lose weight again the week of my birthday when i just said f*ck it, it’s my birthday and i’m going to indulge! it sort of kick started my weight loss again, but i think it triggered my old bad habits of eating. i feel hungry all the time now, and i’m scared i might be over eating. i find myself snacking every few hours, and it’s …

Pre-surgery I was prescribed Pantoprazole by the gastroenterologist who did my endoscopy. I kept taking it through surgery and recovery. (I'm not almost 4 months post-op) Anyhow, even though I was still mindlessly taking the Pantoprazole, I assumed my heartburn had gone away because now I eat nothing compared to what I ate pre-surgery. But once my Pantoprazole ran out, I started getting heartburn again like the old days. Anyone else experience this? Will I have to take Pantoprazole for the rest of my life? I understand why I had frequent heartburn when I was 400 pounds and ate everything that wasn't nailed down but I'm confused about why I still have heartb…

Hey guys. So, my nutritionist said I can have absolutely NO carbonation again in terms of drinks. She said it stretches the sleeve and should not have any carbonated beverages again. My understanding was that it was just for the first six months. What have your surgeons or nutritionists said about it? I am not talking soda, just other carbonated beverages!

Hey guys, I'm new here and am 4 days post- op. Had a bit of a set back in the hospital and it delayed me starting full liquids until today. Well, I was super pumped for my Protein Shake. The hospital gave me a sample of Unjury. I mixed it up per directions and sipped it slowly and thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate flavor. Well about twenty minutes after I had finished half of it...I had to bolt to the bathroom. This has been happening all day now. Is this cause for concern? Do I need to switch back to Clear Liquids until I talk to my doc? Thanks for any and all help!

I had my consultation with surgeon, Psychologist and dietitian today. I was 100% decided about getting the Sleeve based on research related to my chronic disease and ghrelin. Now that I am home from consult I have all kinds of new questions. I am now just slightly concerned about the heartburn issue. I get mild to moderate heartburn 1-2 times in a 2-3 week period. Have any of you had mild/moderate heartburn before surgery and gone ahead and done it anyway and then been fine?

  42. Hello everyone, I've heard and read that with the VSG one can expect to lose between 60-70% of their excess body weight. Anyone here who lost more than that? I'm hoping to lose 80-90% of my excess body weight, and was just wondering if any of you had any words of wisdom or advice on how you got to that point. Mind you I'm about 5' tall and weigh about 210 lbs., and will probably have the sleeve done in September. Thanks much.

How easy is it to stretch out the gastric sleeve pouch? I am 3 1/2 months out and feel like I can eat more than 1/2 cup to 1 cup per serving. Some days I do have “small” pouch days though. Anyone else experience these sensations this soon?

  46. Started by Jwell1024,

I’m about 2 1/2 years post sleeve and I did nothing but sat back and let the weight fall off. And I admit I’m a very lazy person but now I find that I can eat more so I’ve slowly started gaining weight. And as I’ve gradually gain 10lbs in 3 months as I’ve noticed I’ve been pushing my limits, but the good thing is I stop due to that I get really sick when I do which stops me but I have noticed that I can eat more now. My question is, is the damage done? Is my pouch already ruined?

Could someone who uses this please tell me how much powder I need to add to 8 ounces of milk? How many tablespoons is your scoop. Thank you! -Melinda

Ok so I completed my sleep study and was told I have mild sleep apnea result is 6.1. I have kaiser insurance and I’m starting options aug 5. Hopefully having surgery in November. I know Bariatric surgery can improve sleep apnea should I even bother getting the machine? I’m hoping after surgery it’ll be resolved and then I have wasted money on the machine and equipment. Anyone else have similar?
