Question: How long where you restricted from driving after surgery?

  2. Started by GreenTealael,

Considering my journey so far, I had quite a few dramatic moments (hope I've hid them well)... The most dramatic moment was during pre surgery - prepping my Green Binder, where all the instructions of how to handle my legacy were placed (from funeral prep to future weddings of my children) Sooooo dramatic, yes but I thought it was on tempo then. What was your most dramatic moment during this journey? It doesn't have to be serious, it can be comical too.

  4. Started by Rene' S,

Hello, Long story short, I had the band to sleeve conversion on 02/18/19. All went well and then last week Monday two week check up and again all ok. Then Tuesday I had a hard time breathing and chest pains. Dr told me to go to the ER to rule out blood clots, etc, all checked out ok. My Surgeon on Thursday bumped up my Prilosec to x2 a day since I didn't feel much better by Thursday. It has helped a bit but still have a bit of the tightness and breathing issues. I am scared to eat, that making eating it will make it worst but having soft foods for the most part. Not sure if stomach is still healing/swollen. Someone said it can take up to four to six week for …

I have a terrible addiction to sugar. I binge and binge. I don’t know how to get it under control. I’m working with an eating disorder specialist but I have only seen her once and won’t see her until next month after I have surgery. Anyone else go through this? Going through this?

Ok, I think I am normal, I think I am normal. Thursday will be 21 days post surgery. As a car passenger, visited my parents, one hour each way. Rested at the folks house. Just starting pureed food. Got home, super tired. Next day, one mile walk in morning and night decent energy. Today, in a fog. Also, when trying to do some work on the internet, (seeking new work) concentration is limited. Any thoughts? GREAT NEWS, for right now, my primary care doctor says stay off my diabetes and blood pressure meds. YAHOOO! For anyone on the fence, do this surgery.

I know I have to, but I don’t feel the slightest pleasure from eating anymore. I either feel full by the third bite, the food doesn’t agree with me or I end up puking cause I ate too fast (even though I thought I was pacing myself). It’s getting discouraging.

  8. Height: 5’2 HW: 210 CW: 123 GW: 115 So lately my daily calories have increased dramatically. I’m able to consume around 1250 calories per day, and I most definitely do. ??‍♀️ I’m 8 months out, I workout for at least 15-30 minutes a day (I know, that’s not much but ya know..). Haven’t lost weight in about a month and a half, and I’m starting to go kinda nuts. Is it the daily calories that’s sabotaging my weight-loss? I wouldn’t have thought 1250 is to much... perhaps it’s a standard stall...? Maybe it’s the excessive sodium...? (Lots of salted sunflower seeds) thoughts?

Hi everyone! I hope I’m not the only one but today has proven to be a hard day! I’ve been in a lot of pain (12 days post VSG) so I’m not walking as much and can’t go to The gym just yet. I’m also dealing with hunger - head hunger. I’m at my 4pm snack which is 1/2 skim milk and 1/2 Isopure shake and it’s been an hour and I can’t finish it! I HATE IT. So now I’m just completely sad and feeling defeated. And it’s only 12 days in! I’m trying to relax, meditate but being in this house all day every day is killing me! I want to go out but I’m so hungry that I’m afraid that’ll I do something stupid and get a pickle or something. I don’t want to fail! I’m so frustrated with …

Hi All! I wanted to start a thread for African-American sleevers (no worries I HEART all sleevers from the rainbow). I just thought, no scientific proof, that African-American sleevers may respond to the surgery different than our lovely non-African American sleeved sisters and brothers. I wanted to know if we had the same skin issue, hair problems, and other surgery related issues. Also, how to deal with the culture shock. African-American "soul food" may be something of the past... or not. So I was just looking for a space to voice culture related issues and concens. PS- I TRULY  ALL SLEEVERS.

I’m a week post op and I’m starting to get scared that my stomach wasn’t put small enough. I can drink the protein shakes without ever feeling full and I have to stop myself or I’ll drink the whole 8 ounces without feeling discomfort or full. I had a soup tonight that was from bariwise and I ate 6 ounces of it and still didn’t feel full even though it was a more dense liquid. Idk what to do. I’m scared that it wasn’t done right.

Was there much restriction? What are people losing say 6 month post op? I think VSG is less invasioe and easier recovery?? Tnx

I was sleeved 12/14/17. Everything went well, I recovered nicely and I have lost 99 lbs and my BMI is currently 23; weight 144lbs. However, I know for certain I’m not getting nearly enough calories / day. There are so many foods I can’t tolerate (mostly all meats) and I only eat 1/4 of what I put on my little kid plates that I’m still using since surgery. There is only one meal that I eat everyday that doesn’t bother me; it’s breakfast. Everyday, I eat 1 egg, 2 pieces of bacon, and 1 slice of toast and I feel fine. But anything else, I feel terrible after I eat. I get hungry but I feel so nauseous and bad after I eat, that I wished I hadn’t eaten. Am I eating…

Hi, So I had my surgery 6/27. My doctor has me on clear liquids for 2 weeks. I am finally able to drink 64 ounces of liquid but I despise the taste of the clear protein drinks. So I am not taking in any protein. Anyone have this issue? I'm tempted to start full liquids without his consent so I can get some protein and nutrients.

Do people drive you nuts by trying to make you eat more? Can you “hide” that you aren’t eating tons so other don’t ask nosey questions? Just wondering - thanks in advance!!

  28. It's been so long since i've made a post. Im almost 6 years post op, and about a year ago i decided to get into powerlifting. i've gotten some gains, muscles AND fat. now im trying to lose the fat, and keep the muscle. i also dont eat a ton of meat. in fact, i prefer not to. i know one person who started bodybuilding after wls, however they eat meat. They also told me that they take in a lot of calories. is there anyone else here who powerlifts and understand my dilemma? i feel like i have to go back to the very basics and watch every single thing that i eat. that is so annoying and time consuming.

I am 11 days post-op. I cannot tolerate Protein substitutes. I’ve tried everything and all of it makes me sick. Even Genepro... I can smell it, taste it, it gives me horrible gas & makes me nauseous. I’ve only averaged around 30g of protein a day since surgery. Yesterday I had to get IV fluids for dehydration because the protein makes me so sick. I can drink Water just fine until I start trying to get my protein in. Staying hydrated needs to be my priority right now & the protein is affecting my ability to do that. So what are the consequences of not getting enough protein at this point? I’m starting soft foods next week & I feel like it will be eas…

  30. I started having GERD about 1 month out of surgical. I've been instructed to take zantac 2x a day and carafate 4x a day- which is horrible because of the time restriction. Can eat an hour after taking , or 2 hrs after eating. It restricts how much food you can take in. I was wondering has anyone started with Gerd and it get better eventually?

Hi. I hit week 3 Thursday. I’m on the soft food diet and having a hard time getting my protein in. Today I was eating kidney beans and had to stop because I got the absolute worst chest pain. I’m worried about gaining my weight back and I’m worried about not getting my protein in. This sleeve has turned me into a neurotic mess. I’ve never been like this before. I hope calm down

  36. I am 19 months post-VSG and in recent months have had very few problems and very much in maintenance phase. Happily living with my sleeve without too much thought (and by that I mean my routine is so ingrained that it has just become my new way of doing things). Off on holiday yesterday, and had the normal last minute rush in the morning making sure we were all sorted, so didn’t have much to eat then had a boiled egg at the airport. Got on the flight late afternoon and had some champagne (naughty), small tub of pringles and some of my son’s haribo (more naughtiness) all while thinking I am on ‘holidays’ I can have a slip! Got up to go to the loo, and the queue wa…

I was recently told to up my calories to 800 to 1000 per day, and I tend to hang out on the low end, but on the rare occasion that I hit near 1000, I see a loss. Since my loss has slowed down/stalled, it has me wondering if I should be hitting closer to 1000 on a more regular basis. But the problem is that I'm usually satisfied with my 800 calories per day, and with that I can get up to 90 grams of protein and keep the carbs low (under 50, often close to 20). And I like that. I don't want to add more protein to my diet because if I do I will probably never poop again. Constipation is still a bit of a struggle for me, and I want to stay low carb (but not necessarily k…

My doctor's goal weight for me is 165. My personal goal is 150 (my vanity goal is 135). I've been stalled for about a week now at 167, and I'm freaking myself out that this is it. (Naturally, I have thought that about every stall along the way, but knowing that I'm basically at my doctor's goal weight makes me think this REALLY is it.) This is compounded by the fact that I appear to be going through a hormonal shift of some kind, making me fear that my hormones are going back to how they were before and I've reached my new set point. But I don't want to be here. I want to be at least 17 pounds from here, preferably 32 pounds from here. Logical me knows that if…

In the last couple weeks I've had two NSV's- one was pretty amusing and the other kinda made/makes me sad. The amusing one was when a male friend of my husband and I came by unexpectedly. He didn't know I'd had surgery and hasn't seen me in about a year. (I'm about 8.5 months out of surgery and down 107 pounds, only 18 pounds from my goal weight.) He was shocked and thrilled at my progress. He was over for a couple of hours and probably hugged me 7 times and commented positively on my appearance just as many times, even using the phrase "you're so hot". (He's a bit brash, but this did not come from a disrespectful place, and neither my husband nor I took it that…

  43. Started by egs93,

Everyone's journey is different and nobody should compare themselves to others, so this isn't meant to be a competition. I'm just curious as to how long post-sleeve it took people to reach their goal weight (either your personal one or the one your surgeon set for you, if those were different). I've seen a lot of people both here and in my real life say it took them around 6-8 months, but I don't know if this is "average" or just the number I happen to have seen most often by coincidence. Oh, and people who have reached their goal weight - how good did it feel when you did? ?

Laying in bed on my back hurts, sitting up hurts, taking a sip of water hurts, and taking pain medicine hurts. The incisions hurt, my intestines hurt, and everything inside of my chest cavity hurts and feels wrong. I had an appendectomy a decade ago and recovery was maybe 1/10th of the pain that I'm experiencing now.
