I know there are a few threads that address devious to tell family and co-workers but for this of you that chose not to tell, how did you explain your rapid weight loss? I’m scheduled for October and trying to get my ducks in a row from a leave standpoint at work. I have a close group of friends and I’m on the fence about telling them. I attempted to once and chickened out. I am not one to be overly secretive but just don’t want to address the “easy way out” neigh sayers. But after being out of the office for the procedure, followed by a rapid loss - I am sure the rumor mill will start churning.

I read up a lot on post op depression, I’m only four days preop but I feel like I’m in the muck of it. My significant other is seeming to have a lot of challenges with my new focus. Everything has been very difficult with numerous nods on how selfish I’m being. I feel like an impending doom is after me no matter how positive I’m really trying to be. On the topic of being selfish I’ve had to be home obviously recovering and haven’t been able to help out to much at home. I have been super exhausted these last couple days I’m not sure if that’s atypical ethier. For most I’ve made some boundaries at home with good, such as keeping it in the kitchen and being vocal on when see…

Hi everyone this is my first post here. I am having surgery on Monday at 8 am. My stats are 48 yrs old, 5'7, HW 280, CW 265, not sure on a goal weight yet. I would like to stay in touch with others who are going or have gone through this procedure. I am feeling excited and nervous. Is there anyone else here in Canada who has gone through Smartshape in Toronto? Anyone here with stats similar to mine who have gone through this? What have your results been like?

Just sleeved on 8/12/19. Everyone talks about moderate pain, but holy moly, mine's not moderate when I try to stand or sit or bend or do anything that requires core muscles. It burns behind the 'big' incision, and I have to use my arms and other people to stand up. Tonight, the stabbing pain had me in tears as i tried to stand up from the couch. And coughing??? I feel like someone is stabbing a knife in my abdomen. I told the surgeon this on Thursday, and they seemed unconcerned--but it feels odd that I'm seemingly the only one who is experiencing this. (Fwiw, I've got a hella high pain threshold.) It is getting a little better each day, but then something will happen th…

One of the things I’m looking forward to during my weight loss journey is saying good bye to my skin folds/creases.I have skin folds on my arms and thighs. I’ve already lost over 50 pounds since my VGS in May but the skin folds are still there! For my BariPals who have already accomplished your weight loss goals when did your skin folds (if you had some) go away? I’m just praying that they will naturally go away, even if with exercise, because I really don’t want plastic surgery.

Can we talk about weighing/measuring your food? I recently just finished my second month and I am down 48 pounds. (woohoo!) However, I have never measured or weighed the amount of food I am eating. I typically just use a small bowl and eat all of my meals out of it, and work to take 30 minutes to eat each meal. However, a family member who also got VSG said I should be weighing and measuring everything I eat, and I should work to understand the volume at which I can consume my foods. I'm not sure I understand what this means and why I have to do it. I suppose I am seeking out advice into what you all do, and how it has helped with your weightloss? Or do you guys think I'm…

When did you start buying new clothing? I’m finding that since I keep losing weight what I buy today may be too big next month. This has already happened to me, I bought a suit just a couple of weeks ago and now it’s too big. I’m not complaining but just wondering how everyone else handles their size changes in regards to clothing?

So I’ve been having severe right side pain. It is not surgical pain. I can’t even walk without pain. When I lay down the pain is gone. Has anyone else ever had this pain? I was sleeved 8/27/19 pod 6. I might go to the ER because this does not feel normal. Also, I don’t think it’s gallbladder since I don’t have fever, nausea, etc. Also, I’m wondering if it’s just muscle pain.

Hi all. I just got my pre-op testing done on Thursday. Exactly three weeks before my surgery. I’m pretty sure all is good but I’m just curious and a little nervous. Did anyone here fail their pre op? And if so what caused you to fail it and what happened after? We’re you able to get the surgery? Was it postponed? I just really don’t want to have my surgery delayed in any way.

Today I woke up around 9am ish and I still have no appetite just so you know. I Grab myself a Atkins chocolate protein shake for breakfast (first time trying the chocolate kind and i felt fine after my first couple sips so I continued) and I still can only drink half at a time. When I was done it was around 10:00 and Had a few sips of Gatorade zero At 10:30. At around 10:45 I decided to go for a walk and made myself a task to walk around my court for 10 minutes since last week I would do you 5 minutes 2 times a day. Well today during my walk I felt fine I didn’t think I pushed it until I came back inside my house and sat down. I felt slightly nauseous. At about 11:00 The …

My surgery is in 3 wks and my preop appointment is Thursday so I am getting excited/ anxious. I would like as much detail about the day of as anyone can remember. Did you just have an IV? Did you have to have an injection before surgery? Basically I am a giant baby when it comes to needles. I’ve worked up to being ok with blood draws and ivs but still freak about regular injections. So advanced warning might help. After surgery did anyone have a drain? I think I read something that some people have them and others don’t....anyone know the reasoning? thanks!!

I've finished my first month to my new life, one more week of soft foods. Any advice when I reach next week and I start regular foods. I'm almost thinking I'll stay with what I am familiar with. I've never eaten really healthy, Maybe I'll add some salmon and tuna to the mix but pretty much stay with the food I know. I am so missing my collards. I never thought I'd say that having been born in the north. I'm so happy with my choice, the first few weeks are tough, the stall will drive you crazy, it is hard not to get on the scale daily but will drive you crazy if you do. I could not have gotten through this without all of your posts and all of your collective wisdom. …

Hi, folks. You might read this off and give it a pause for seconds while understanding my post since English isn't my first language. So, please be aware of that some of the expressions I use here might be easier for you to understand in your language as you guess. I've been 11 days out and got the gastric sleeve surgery. I was a 6"2' tall 291 pound man, which is about 132 kilograms, and wasn't involved in any sort of sport games. Being a sedentary man who walks less than 5000 steps a day has got me trapped in a vicious circle that I couldn't manage to get out of it by myself, which has given me high levels in a liver test, cholesterols, and blood pressure while gett…

Hey everybody. Just found and joined this forum tonight (Awesome Group??). I'm curious to know how you handled your incisions. I had my surgery 8/19/19 and my surgeon used this blue-colored "second skin" bandage on top of the stitches. It's starting to peel off (more like flake off) and I don't want them to come off too soon, because moisture helps tremendously with healing. What have you all done for yours?

Hello! My name is Grant. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 11/13/2017. At that time, I weighed about 450 pounds. Since my surgery, I've mostly followed the program, changed my lifestyle and worked out. I've met with my personal trainer at least twice a week since 01/2018 and made it a point to go to the gym at least 3 times a week separate from that. About 6 months after my surgery, I switched to an insurance my surgeon didn't accept. So I haven't seen him since then. As of today, I weight 217 pounds, meaning i've lost somewhere around 233 pounds. It's absolutely changed my life and I am a totally different person now. But i'm concerned because...well...I…

Has anyone have a BMI of 35-36? What made you all decide to go with the surgery rather then to just do it on your own? I'm at BMI of 36 and cw 203. I have already lost 47 lbs. I just having a hard time loosing more. I just have to think if its worth it to go with the surgery or keep trying on my own. Which is why I wanted to ask for those that did have the surgery at a low BMI. How much have you lost since surgery? Was it worth it to you to go ahead with surgery? My surgeon told me he wants me on their program pre-op diet and to maintain the weight I am at for 1 to 2 months. He will do the surgery, if I do decide to go ahead with it. The psychiatrist said tha…

Hello Sleevers, has anyone revised their sleeve to a bypass surgery? Can you explain how it went and how was the journey? I am seriously considering this due to a major increase in reflux after my sleeve. I went from taking a prilosec once in a while or when needed (before sleeve) to 2 doses everyday (post surgery) to stay reflux free. I feel I would had been a good bypass candidate due to my Gerd history something my surgeon did not inform me of nor did I know until further investigating. The bypass surgery disables gastric juices from flowing back up instantly relieving the need for PPI. I am overall satisfied with the sleeve however I am not too thrilled about th…

I had gastric sleeve done on March 2019... and down 63 lbs as of today. I had a TPN and Upper GI procedures done to see why Im still not keeping down solid foods. However, since the surgery no matter what I do and went to dentist and all, my breath smells awful now!! I client face and have to work with the public all day.. this is embarrassing!! Has anyone else experience this? If so.. please help me with a solution! ? The weight coming off is a success, however the hair falling out, bad breath and not being able to eat anything hasn’t been a good experience. Does it get better?

Before surgery, I drank A LOT of water. Like, an obnoxious amount. I drank it fast, cold, and rapidly. Obviously, with the new sleeve, I am down to sips. My question for folks here who have gone through surgery, and are happy with the results ----- can you chug without crumbling in pain? Photo by Julia Zolotova on Unsplash

I hate being the negative individual in any sense but my anxiety is currently ruling my life. I’m two days out from surgery and the panic is real. My concern is with surgery itself and going under. Im so afraid of complications and having to be alone in the operation room with strangers. I struggle with serious anxiety and ptsd normally. They are just completely revealing their ugly heads this week. Any advice?

Hey everyone!! I had the sleeve done in June of 2018. I lost almost 60 lbs. My start weight at point of surgery was approx. 200 and I got down to 143 within 4 months after surgery. I then got pregnant and successfully delivered my baby boy on August 1, 2019. On day of delivery I weighed 174. Since delivery I’m down to 147 and it hasn’t been a month yet. The sleeve worked during pregnancy and even now. I monitored my weight and continued to eat good while pregnant. But mostly I’m never hungry. I said all this to say that it is possible to be pregnant within the first year of getting the sleeve surgery and maintain your weight. Just monitor everything and remember to be a…

I am feeling really good today post surgery. After Initial pain for a couple of hours, I have been keeping all my water down and walking regularly and using the breathing thing. Going to try to get some sleep soon. But I will say the Toradol Really helped. Wish it was one of my prescriptions going home instead of Percocet. I was having trouble with a bit of pain with the water initially. After that shot I’ve had no problems all day. Anyone have a similar experience?

Hi my name is Marie and I am new to group. I am currently 1week and four days into my 1 month preop liquid diet and the struggle is real. I don't feel hungry .I just want to eat some food. I am counting the days down until my September 16th surgery date. I am anxious excited nervous and scared somewhat, After talking with my sister today ( who has had the surgery years ago) she is the one I thought would be the most supportive. She has me thinking that I shouldn't be so excited about my preop appointment and my upcoming surgery. I am almost second guessing myself, more nervous about the process ..I do understand this is a major surgery and maybe that's what she thought I …

It's been about 7 weeks since surgery and I've lost 45 lbs and now I've been in a stall for the last 5 days. Hopefully it will get back to normal in a few days., Nothing has changed, I'm still drinking lots of water, eating same foods.. keeping calories to 650/day as per Docs orders... I guess this is normal for the weight loss ? Your body just readjusting itself ?

Today I was experimenting with my morning shake and it came out so smooth and rich, it was as sweet and decadent as any fast food shake I have ever eaten that I thought I would share . First the statistics: 295 Calories 3 Grams Fat 37 Grams Protein 27 Grams Carbs Ingredients : 1 scoop milk chocolate shake mix 1/2 cup skim milk 1/2 cup plain yogurt 1 scoop Isopure Unflavored Protein Mix and 1/2 cup Ice. Blend together in your blender. I had mine between 8 am and 10 am (it makes 16 ounces so it takes awhile to get it all down) but haven't been hungry all day. I have been sipping on the Isopure Infusions throughout the day, striving to get 8…

Getting excited and nervous! Surgery approved and scheduled for September 4th with the possibility they may move it to the 3rd due to a cancellation. All my pre-op lab work and testing is done and without any concerns. Same for my psych eval, barium swallow, chest x-ray, EKG, and EGD. Did all my pre-op nutrition appointments (I was fast tracked, so there weren't as many as most of you had). Did the pre-op group class where they explained my pre-op diet and what to expect at the hospital and post op. Started my bariatric vitamins last week. Okay, this is gonna sound cheesy as all get out, but I’m so happy I found this site and forum. Just glancing around when I have the time the one HUGE thing I notice is how well this community does to support each other, and help each other up during slumps, or fears of backsliding, calming those questioning choices, changes, tips, etc. It’s becoming where I come at the end of the night after my 3 kids are finally sleeping to kinda get to know the site more and all of you. There’s so much incredibly helpful knowledge & support you all give on here, and that the site puts out there. I know I’m a totally giddy, nerdy, newb, not even close to a surgery date, but trut…

I just did my pre-op nutrition session and was given some instructions that totally caught me off guard. I am to do my pre-op diet up to the day before surgery (OK, no surprise here). Then the evening before surgery I am to drink 32oz of either apple juice, cranberry juice (or the two mixed), or regular gatorade: FULL SUGAR. Then 2-4 hours before surgery I am to drink 16 more oz! Being a nurse this is totally foreign to me. I was "raised" in a world where you are ALWAYS NPO before surgery. They are not worried about the fluids because they pump your stomach when the are starting surgery, so it is empty anyway when surgery actually starts. That is reassuring. The reason t…
