I just got my gastric sleeve done 11/12/19, I am able to start my full liquid diet but when I go to drink my protein shakes, I can only drink about three sips, how do I force more down I have just been sticking to liquids. Because the attempt of broth or protein shakes make me fuller more quicker and I can’t have as much. I also have been getting this pain it feels like liquid is coming up my throat but doesn’t come back out I don’t know how to describe it.

I'm about 6 weeks out and just wondering if it's ok to have a whole protein shake at a time now for a meal? I've been just having 4oz at a time three times a day for my snacks. If anyone has any tips for me I'd love to hear from you?

My weight loss at first was on the slower end and now (thank G-d) it seems to have picked up a bit and I was curious if anyone else had this experience. Now that I can eat more foods and I have been having more carbs (so perhaps that is the change) the weightless is faster but I am still curious if anyones body seemed to take a couple of months to get used to the surgery and then bam... their metabolism and weight loss kicked in? Would love to know folks' experiences ...

My weight loss has slowed. I'm at about 8 months post op and have lost 70% of my excess weight thus far. I'm trying to celebrate non-scale victories until I get past this plateau. This morning I showered and got ready for work at the gym (I have usually just gone home to do this, unless it's a rare lunchtime workout). The tiny towel at the gym completely wrapped around me without a gap. I was so excited to see that! In the past when I've worked out during lunch I've had to bring a giant beach towel to completely wrap myself in after showering. What non-scale victories are you celebrating? I need inspiration to look for other victories in places other than the scale.

Anyone have their sleeve surgery scheduled for next month? I will be traveling from the MidWest to have mine at Blossom Bariatrics in Las Vegas on 10/9 ? Also will be my first time in Vegas! Starting the pre-op diet next Thursday and I have to admit...I'm just feeling like having a food funeral for all of my favorite meals. Scared I will develop complications and be super far away from my surgeon/medical team. At the same time, I am SO excited to have this tool to get ahold of my life! I would love to keep in contact with some fellow October newbies.....

Hi all, I am still struggling with dumping syndrome side effects. I was sleeved Feb 2018, and have lost 78lbs which I am happy with. I have 20lbs until target weight. So all going well with the weight loss. Once I started back on the diet, following high protein, low carb, low sugar.. My new stomach has struggled. I have daily episodes of diarrhoea (maybe up to 7 or 8 times), heaps of gas and flatulence. I can still only eat maybe 4 or 5 tablespoons of food. But what I'm just exhausted with is 14 months of dumping syndrome. Now everything I read and researched says it doesn't happen to sleeve patients, but can be an issue for gastric bypass patients. At …

I'll be having surgery on 12/2 - band to sleeve, by the same doctor who did the band 7 years ago. It's done as an outpatient and I will be staying at a hotel as I am traveling from out of state. Is it completely insane to think I will be able to be a passenger in a car for 8 hours to go home on day 3? Doc says yes.

I thought it'd be interesting to hear people's lowest points before surgery that led them to the decision of having surgery. My lowest was being at an amusement park with my wife and son. They had a waterslide area and we decided to go on. The bottom of the steps had a sign that listed the maximum weight as 300lbs, which I knew I was around 320 at the time. I figured I could get by. We finally get all the way to the top and I see a giant scale ahead of the slides with red and green lights. My wife and son had to look on as the light went red and I had to walk my fat ass all the way back down through the crowded stairs. That really cemented it for me that it was time for a…

Hi guys! I had my gastric sleeve surgery on Sept 12th. I finally weighed myself today (I have avoided the scale and focused on feeling good and getting familiar with my new stomach) and am officially down 50 lbs since my surgery date. Is that enough weight to have lost so far or should it be more? I just want to be sure I’m on track. I know I will eventually hit the dreaded “stalls” which is why I don’t really want to be a scale watcher. I have started to slack off on the super healthy eating I was doing and I’ll tell you what.. that makes me physically feel like crud! The high protein, no breads, pastas, sugars, ect diet plus my multivitamins had me…

I know many of you were following my story after Cigna denied me twice and finally after peer review surgery was set for Monday, November 18th. However because my case was already challenging, why not throw a bit more into it right?! I started throwing up and having diarrhea/ stomach and chest pain Monday the 11th. I have been having trouble on and off since I had the fundoplication takedown, hernia repair, and my LINX device installed. This went on until Wednesday morning at 6am and had to be rushed to the hospital. It was there they determined after lots of tests that my wbc count was through the roof, I had heightened liver enzymes and an enlarged liver, blood…

This post is really for the folks who are considering the sleeve, wondering if it will "work" for them, if they should take the leap... This post is for the folks who just returned home from surgery or are several weeks out..the people who are starting to feel discouraged...didn't realize it would be so "hard". And, this post is for the folks that have a bit to go before they reach that goal they set thinking the weight they REALLY want to be is unattainable! First, the sleeve alone will not "work" for you unless you are willing to WORK with it! It's a tool not a cure. And, yes, it is often hard, especially in the beginning when you are creating new, succ…

Is 40 lbs 8 weeks after VSG good progress or do most people lose more by this stage in the game? I have rheumatoid arthritis and I'm having terrible issues with constipation more than anything. I see my surgeon this Thurs and I'm worried he's going to think 40 lbs isn't enough. ??

I had my surgery in March 2019 so I’m 8 months post op. The most I’ve lost is 65 lbs. I thought I would’ve lost more by now. I’ve been at the same weight for a couple of months but I need to lose to 15 more to get to my GW. I walk a few miles every day and I still meal prep/3 small meals and a snack per day; although I can definitely eat more. Thoughts? Advice?

Hi everyone, I got a vsg in late May 2019, so it's been 6 months or so now, and I feel I did not make the most of the first 6 months. I healed remarkably well, and was able to tolerate all foods , and I had no discomfort or complications. My problems started when shortly before surgery, I started to worry that I would not get enough nutrients, and would become ill. I have young children and my main reason for wanting to lose weight is to be around for a long time for them. So for this reason I put more of the focus on eating healthier things. I did all my protein shakes, but I also spent a lot of time making green juices with no fruit and blending up greens. I took…

I'm at the end of day 3 of my pre-op diet and these protein shakes are constantly filling me up to the point where I've missed one today. But then the kids wanted pizza, and I was sipping beef broth in another room. And now my stomach is roiling and I'm legit hungry for the first time all day and want to go raid the fridge. Good thing I have to drink another protein shake instead... On the flip side, doc had me cut out diet soda, coffee, and alcohol back in early September, and this morning I actually weigh as much as I claim on my driver's license. LOL. Surgery is this Monday!!!

Hi All, Had the Gastric Sleeve done on Monday morning 11/11/19 at NYU Medical Center in NY. I’m super pleased to report that everything went extremely well and that I was really surprised with how manageable the discomfort has been post-op. For those of you considering it and nervous about the pain and suffering after surgery, don’t let it be the reason you cancel of postpone. Go through with it and take your future health in your own hands. My procedure was at 7:30 am on Monday. It lasted about 1.5 hours. During the surgery the doctor fixed a hiatal hernia and also took a biopsy of a small growth on my liver which thankfully turned out to be fine by patholo…

Hi everyone. I’m 4 days post op, home from hospital and venturing into this new world with a mixture of apprehension and excitement. If anyone is wondering why I’ve chosen to join in the chat with people so far from home I honestly don’t have any one particular reason I lurked around a few sites and felt drawn to here primarily because it has a nice feeling; one of mutual respect, and a big dollop of honesty. I feel like I’m in a bit of a surreal world right now as I mourn the loss of my best friend, food, and celebrate the demise of my mortal enemy, food. Maybe demise isn’t the best terminology to use as I still face its ever present place in my life. For no…

So I know we had surgery, the body needs to heal. Yes, and it takes 6 weeks for the stomach to heal. Got it. But what does lifting more then 30lb do? Really what happens if we lift ? What would happen badly to us say we lifted more then 35lbs. Here’s the reason I’m asking : I work with kids with cerebral palsy. Tomorrow is my first day back. Saturday I’ll be 2 week post op. The main client I work with is a 2 year old and she’s no more then 25lb. I’d have to be moving her from a couch like surface, to her chair to do feeding therapies with me, move her to get changed, move her to a soft surface to do stretches and so on. She can’t lift herself so I have to…

So I am down nearly 100 lbs. now, but I am suddenly experience severe cramping and then the explosive need to poop. It starts normally and slowly over like 1-4 hours gets worse and more frequent with more poop than I thought my body could hold! I don't do sugar, and have mostly cut out all carbs that are not from veggies. It definitely seems worse on days the I work out a bit more intensely (running instead of walking, etc.) Has anyone else had this problem? Like I literally just spend an hour at Starbucks afraid to get back on the road. After 3 trips to the bathroom, afraid people were wondering WTH I was kept doing in there, I finally l left. But really?? This sucks.

I started this journey last spring. I did everything by the book but did not loose weight through the process. Part of it was I had to have a major surgery a couple months back before I was eligible for the sleeve. So going into the insurance submittal, I thought for sure that was what would hang me up. I got my first denial 3 days in. They said my surgeon wasn’t in network. However they sent me to his office and his partners in the same office were . That brought appeal 1. I was then denied again after 2 weeks. This time they said I didn’t qualify because I didn’t do all of the steps. Turns out some person at Cigna forgot to look at the whole packet of paperwork…

One month out and started taking the H Pylori treatment. (positive pathology test at the time of surgery). It is not easy to tolerate as it makes me feel bloated and slightly nauseous. This can very well be because of the infection itself but I am behind on hydration as it feels like I am never thirsty, slightly nauseous and have no room for water in my stomach. Plus the amount of pills I need to take every 12 hr for this are the size of a meal but harder to get through the stomach. Did anyone had to do this post surgery and how did you feel during the treatment? I hope it will get easier.

Good morning all! I'm 2 weeks and 2 days post-op and things seem to be going well. Much less pain daily and really only when I sneeze or cough does it hurt. Incisions are healing nicely. At first I lost fast, like 4 pounds a day. After a few days of that it slowed to 2 pounds a day, then 1 and now it's 1 pound every other day. I was 299 this morning, same as yesterday. It's been 28 total since surgery day (327 that morning) but the slowing down worries me. Am I still losing like a I should? What weight can I realistically expect to be at in 6 months? My 10 year anniversary is in May and we want to go to New Zealand and Australia for that but I'd LOVE to be under 25…

Hello, I just now found this place. Better late than never I guess. on July 9th 2018 I weighed 508lbs. I am a 38 year old male who is 6'1. At the end of my rope I didn't know where to turn next. It was during one frustrated exchange with the CEO at my work during lunch that he asked why I didn't consider a weight loss surgery. I quickly replied I had, but the companies insurance didn't cover it. He made a promise to me that if I gave it my best shot he would make sure it was covered. I began working with my primary on the referral while he began working with our health insurance. Our plan year rolled on January 1 and the Sleeve and Bypass were included. I started wi…

Scheduled for gastric sleeve first thing tomorrow morning at NYU. Must say, I’m a bit nervous about the recovery process and not being able to eat/enjoy certain foods, but the alternative is decreasing health and things breaking down over time. Ballooned up to 311 (5’7) and decided it was finally time to fix it. Pre-op has gone well and I’m down to 280. Did think for a second that perhaps I could just continue with the pre-op process and avoid the surgery, but I know it’s not realistic. Hoping that everything will go well so I can be on my feet and back to work for some travel I have scheduled in December. Made a point of not telling a lot of people. Mom is supe…

So after doing lots of research I believe I found a great doctor to do my VSG. Only problem is that he doesn't do single incision surgery. When I asked him about it, he stated the scars are tiny- and with single sleeve incisions you have one big scar at the belly button vs. 5 small ones so it's better to have the 5 small ones. The thing is that I have dark skin so I'm pretty sure I will have these scars for life and they won't fade well. I would really love to show off my body in a bikini after surgery but I'm thinking I won't want to with the scars. So I'm thinking about find a new surgeon who does a single incision-which I'm not happy about as I really like my surge…

This is, admittedly, very silly, but....has anyone else noticed this...? I've lost a shed-load of weight and I have an apron of skin up front. It's truly flop-tastic. ? However, when I'm in the bath, it magically begins to float up into a rather endearing little pot-belly. ? I know that fat is less dense than muscle and so it will float, but to see it in action is a bit of a giggle!

Hey! Looking for a Sleeve Sister or even brother to talk back and forth with! Here's a short story about me- I was banded in 2005 when I was 15 in Tijuana by Dr. Ortiz. Over 13 years, I lost about 70 lbs but by 2018 I had gained it all back. I found Dr. Udelhofen in Cincinnati, Ohio (working under Trace Curry) and he determined my band was slipped. I had no idea, but I believe it. So he removed my band in July of 2018 and initially I wanted to get the sleeve done the same day but decided against it. I didn't want to quit smoking and quit drinking. March/April 2019 I decided I wanted to go forth with it. I stopped smoking and decided to put my alcohol consumpti…
