I can't believe it's already been 2 weeks! EGD today was a breeze! 14 day pre-op diet wasn't too unbearable. But I gotta tell ya - the Chic-Fil-A chicken biscuit was a real temptation yesterday as I drove around town buying yet more protein drinks! LOL. I stayed strong though and went back to my hotel room for yet another protein shake. Good luck October sleevers. See you on the other side!

I dont know if im the only one that feels this way and I would like somebody to talk to plz. Here it goes........I'm 21 about to be 22 and I've been fat a majority of my life. Since I was 8 I've been picked on, taunted and all that jazz. At the age of 13 I lost 60lbs. So when I started HS i was 150lbs and was still made fun of but not as much. Also I had to deal with this new found attention i was getting from boys because I was thinner and had large breast (14 and was a DD). It got to the point that I got punched in the head because I 'thought I was cute." By prom I was 189lbs. Now I'm 239 and I'm on the journey to getting the surgery but I'm SCARED OUTA MY SHORTS!!!!!! …

Hi hi I was soooo excited to see a San Antonio group on this site! I'm hoping to connect with other local "sleevers" to create something of a real-life support network for us all... A little about me: I recently had my knee 'scoped to try & figure out why my torn meniscus wasn't healing (after 5 months) --- once inside, my knee doc saw that the cartilage was completely shredded (the pictures looked like cotton candy) & gave me the news that I needed total knee replacement. He also let me know that he wouldn't be able to do the surgery until I lost a significant amount of weight & referred me to Dr. Ramiro "Sonny" Cavazos, a bariatric surgeon at The Texas…

Had a nice 3.4lbs loss this week! Yeah!!!!!!!!! Just now starting not to have so much nausea when I eat dense Protein. Still using Protein drinks to up my levels. Saw my Bari this week and he is very happy with my progress. Said I was right on target and to keep up the good work. He said I was his lowest BMI patient he had ever performed the procedure on and that he was looking forward to seeing me to find out how I was doing. Now he is considering getting the sleeve done cuz he has now hit an obese rating on BMI. Interesting huh? Today the family is going for a 4 hour horseback ride so I will get my excercise in that way. And now that I am healed up from my falls I can…

  7. Okay, so I have seen this mentioned on the side in a couple of places around the forum and am starting to put 2 and 2 together. Just 10 years ago, I was clearly and no doubt 5'7". A little over exactly. I was measured for my BMI the other day (and in a couple of different places) and I am 5'5". I am wondering if being heavy long term makes our "gravity" stronger and pulls us closer to the ground. This could sure account for the joint pain overweight people get. My husband is shorter from years of jumping out of aircraft. The constant impact compresses your joints and drops your arches if you do it enough. I wonder if it is the same for us?

Has anyone been in the position when the people of opposite sex in their life started to pay more attention to them because they were thinner? How did this make you feel? I've always kinda hoped that someone would like me for who I am on the inside, not what I look like on the outside...although I know that is unrealistic. I'm also worried about people asking me how I lost the weight so quickly. I've only told a handfull of people, and I really don't want to lie, but there are reasons I haven't told everyone. I feel this is right for me, and I don't want to hear other people's negative opininions. I know this may seem a little silly, but it's just been on my mind lately. …

So today I started my 2 wk pre op diet. 3 shakes and 2 protien bars a day and I can have lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, celery and bell pepper with FF dressing if I need. Today I needed the veggies. I am so hungry. I have been drinking my water all day and have in about 96oz, but I'm just hungry and making dinner for my family was torture. I thought I would get a pizza crust and make homemade pizza for them and it was so tough to not pick at the toppings. It smelled so good. I'm reading that day 2 or 3 it will get better? I sure hope so cuz this is HARD!

I was so happy this morning, I have been at 200 lbs. for the past 3 days. Yesterday I gave blood (a pint's a pound, but yesterday was my 22nd pint over the past 10 years here in California) and drank tons of Water to make up for the Fluid loss. They make you stay 15 minutes after you donate in case you start feeling unwell, and there are Cookies and juice besides water. I had a water and took a package of snack-size Oreos. They were my first cookies since...Christmas, maybe? Anyway, I ate a cookie, looked that the other three in the package, and threw the rest away. They didn't taste all that good and I didn't feel like I needed to eat them all. I drank my water an…

Hi all. I had my surgery on October 11th at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Kansas City under the care of Stan Hoehn. Day of surgery: Surgery at 10:30 am. I woke up in a lot of pain in my abdomen. The original recovery room pain meds didn’t help. The next meds they tried caused an allergic reaction - rash, trouble breathing, inability to focus, nausea. It took hours to convince the nurse that the Dilaudid was a problem. In retrospect, as I am allergic to morphine, I can’t believe they gave me a morphine derivative and then denied I was having a reaction, but that is having a bad nurse vs. a good nurse, I suppose. For the record, all of my other nurses and CAs were t…

  15. Well, I feel like a true initiate now. Got a little too complacent, I guess. What with being in the mushies stage and having no trouble whatsoever with tuna salad, egg salad, chopped liver, unblended lentil Soup and the like, I thought I give some lovely fresh king salmon a whirl. Maybe not a mistake in itself, but maybe I was a little too nonchalant when I actually ate it? There it was, a lovely little 4 oz. chunk of filet. I cooked it nicely seasoned with salt, pepper and dill, in a little foil envelope in the oven. Came out looking delish as could be. Squeezed a little fresh lemon juice on it. Got busy. Hi There! I'm Jes. I'm twenty four.. from Baltimore, Maryland. I had my sleeve on December 20th, 2010. So I will be ten months out in just three dates. I started my journey at 317 pounds, day of surgery I was 292. And, today I'm at 175 pounds. To date the brings me to a total f 142 pounds lost. My original goal weight was 150 pounds. But, even then at 5'5 my BMI would be considered over weight. So at my last visit my surgeon and I jokingly agreed my new goal weight was 147. So either way you look at it I have 25lbs or 27 lbs. I started wearing a 24/26 and a 2/3 x top. I'm now in a 12/14 and a Medium top. SUPER…

I want to tell you guys about the realization I made today. Its kind of a personal story but I think there may be a few of us that can relate to it. Before surgery, I asked my husband what kind of eater did he think I was... emotional, stress, volume etc... I thought I was just a volume eater. He immediately said stress and emotional. I argued with this and was very defensive about it. He said when I seemed sad and depressed, i ate more. I just thought, no way and that he was wrong. I said I dont get hungry when I am upset! The story began yesterday when I got a voicemail from my 17 year old son's school that he had been arrested and taken to adult jail. I panick…

I am a little over 5 months out from my VSG and I am thrilled with the results. However, I am having crazy issues with my blood pressure. Before the surgery I was averaging 130/80 taking lisinipril and metoprolol daily. Around the third month post-op, I started feeling extremely sluggish and would come home from work and go straight to bed. I never said anything to anybody because I thought I was being a wimp and I should keep feeling better everyday and not feeling worse. Eventually, I decided to check my blood pressure and it was 90/60. My PCP had me try different combos of my meds to see what worked. When I went off the metoprolol, but took the lisinipril my diastol…

I'm finally home from my surgery!! I went in on Friday and had my surgery at about 7:30 a.m. For the first several hours after surgery I was in soooo much pain it was pretty much a blur from all of the pain meds and anesthesia. By Friday night I was doing alot better, still had alot of gas pain and pain in my shoulder from my drain pushing on my diaphragm. I still had alot of fluids going in and a catheter too, but I got up Friday evening about 12 hrs post-op and walked around the halls. Saturday morning I got my Upper GI done, and that didn't go so well. The bottom part of my sleeve was pretty much swollen shut, and the gastrograffin was barely trickling thru. The dr.…

Hey everyone! I was sleeved on May 17, and I've been doing great with it, but a week after I went back to college in August I began having an unusual problem: I started burping all the time. It happened basically overnight; one morning I woke up and realized I could bring up a burp whenever I wanted to and I could not rid myself of it. Gas-X did nothing, and both the Reglin and some other medicine my surgeon had me try did nothing (and that Reglin made me feel really bad!) On top of that, I just didn't feel right and knew something was wrong.
