  1. So, I wasn't really planning to start dating just yet, but well, it happened. Met him online, and so we met at a local restaurant which was cool. Since we met at 7:30 tonight, we just sat at the bar area (Grill and Bar restaurant) and talked about an hour. Every so often, he kept looking around and such like he was seeing someone he knew or something, had what appeared to be a nervous tick with his legs which annoyed me. Anyways, I knew pretty much right off there was no chemistry. I noticed him looking "at" me a few times which was fine. He then asks if I want to go somewhere and do something. I said sure, what do you have in mind? He was like, I'm not really su…

My job recently started overtime back up. With the Holidays here how could I refuse. So, here I go again with working 6 days a week. Did this over the spring and summer which didn't leave me any "real time" for my exercise routine. Which I believe kind of slowed my loss. I strongly feel that I could've been at goal by now. Had I not worked the OT it would've gave me more time to concentrate on my weight loss. Then again, I took advantage of it. I guess it will be a give and take. I will give (and take) the OT and take what I can for my loss with what time I have to devote to exercise. It is what it is. And I will take it. It will be just a bit longer than I had anticipate…

Hi I finally joined this site after lots and lots and lots of research and reading from here. Well here is my problem...Im 22 and I live in Georgia...well technically Alabama lol and I've been thinking about getting sleeved for a looooong time. Im in college so of course i dont have a lot of money, so I was going to try to self pay and either go to Louisiana to Dr. Borland or drive to Mexico for Dr. Kelly (I HATE flying). I've kept trying to throw clues to my mom that i really need this surgery but she always says "girl you dont need that. Just cut back and exercise." Im actually growing a wee bit tired of her saying that. Ive been trying basically my entire life. So obvi…

I have been posting lately about how terrible I am doing and this post is nothing different. I need to vent. I just dont undertsand why I cant seem to get my head in the game? At first it was "ok" that I felt this need to eat my emotions, but now, it's not because I know I have stretched my sleeve. I had not been hungry in MONTHS and now, I am hungry all the time. I used to eat a few chips and feel full. A few bites of ice cream, felt full. I was thanking God that even though I wanted to over eat, I just COUL NOT do it. Now, I am feeling little to NO restriction, I feel like I can eat a whole hamburger. I havent tried yet because I know that if I am actually able to, I wi…

  11. Hello freinds!! Sorry if this has been brought up before but i couldn't find it anywhere on here. I have BCBS federal and I'm in my second month of my 3 month required supervised weight loss management. I haven't really lost anything during these 2 months. I started at 220 and am at 216 right now. Is that going to affect the insurance's decision to approve me? I'm really trying to lose weight!!!! If I go any lower, i'll be below a 40 BMI. I'm so confused and I don't know what to do. Has anyone ever been denied because they didn't lose weight during their weight management??? my paperwork gets sent to the insurance company next month and I'm freaking out that I can'…

Hi All! I had my last pre-op class yesterday in South San Francisco. Just one week till surgery and I am getting SO nervous! Luckily I have plenty to get done at work before then, and an early Thanksgiving dinner for my family this weekend, as I will be in hospital on Thanksgiving (hopefully going home that night, I will be thankful indeed!) I'm an emotional rollercoaster right now, and it looks like a LOT of us are enjoying that particular ride! It's SO helpful to read about the rest of you, makes me feel like I am not alone!

Hello All, I have been really researching for a while and decided to make the jump and get the Sleeve my only concern while researching I have read that people are not loosing as much and the Duodenal Switch is better because when you get the sleeve you hit stalls...Is this true? What are your honest thoughts..what made you choose the sleeve and not the duodenal switch or lap-band ect.. thanks

I went through the whole process on Monday. Doctor, class, set up appointments for pre-surgery. I was impressed with the sleeve. The first thing I asked , Is the sleeve covered by Medicare and he said no. Maybe spring, late March. Not enough data they are saying?

  15. Sooooo, have not lost a pound and have 2 weeks left...this is so hard because I just want to eat everything that I feel I will never be able to again. I am taking my vitamins and have gotten everything I need for surgery. Not seeing my surgeon before the surgery...but could he decide not do it the day I go in????

Hello Everyone, Some of you know my mother was sleeved on November 3, 2011. Her surgery went well, and she was a textbook surgery. However, there were many problems experienced in the hospital where she received her post-operative recovery care. Many of the nurses and doctors there were not knowledgeable about the difference between the VSG and the RNY in receiving medications. My mother has chronic medical conditions for which she has been treated for years that require extended release (ER) medications. She was seen by internal medicine doctors and pharmacists alike while she was there, but none of the physicians wanted to give her the medications her body needed to…

I am 4 weeks out from surgery. After sleeping a max of 7 hrs, the reflux / burning that's churning up into my throat wakes me up. My gut gurgles at that time like a mac truck and I feel the acid bubbling up. If I open my mouth, I can hear it in my throat. It's like having exploding Pop Rocks in my throat! Feels like gaseous foam bubbling up. Eating a couple of bites makes it subside for a VERY short time, but not for long. I take prescription Pepcid twice a day and use Gas X strips. Is this temporary (I hope) or a long term thing? Anything I can do to lessen this burning & gurgling? Thanks in advance!

  18. I am 2 months out from surgery and I know this was wrong and I'm so mad at myself but I tried eating chips and it was no problem at all. I could have continued eating them too. I ate quite a bit more than I would have imagined I could have. In addition to this, I ate half of a bagel with cream cheese. I'm also finding that I can drink normal gulps of water. I'm not trying to push the sleeve. I want it to work. I was PMSing and hungry and felt like I was going crazy. I ate this stuff and now I'm shocked at what I can physically eat. I wonder now if the surgery won't work anymore.

And no, my clothes aren't getting bigger which would indicate inches and not pounds. What the heck! I am one week into the soft foods phase. I have been very good. Maybe not getting in all my liquid every day, but close to it. If anything I am under the calories that I should be, probably about 800-900 per day. And starvation mode is a myth so its not that. I have tried to be very patient, but it's really starting to get to me. The only thing I can say is I lost a decent amount of weight quickly. I was on the pre-op diet for 4 weeks and lost…

  31. My surgery was on the 7th, in Little Rock, Arkansas, with Dr. John Baker. I got to come home yesterday afternoon. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired at time of surgery (didn't know I had one). Everything is going so much better than I expected, with exception of one thing. I have lots of allergies, and they were supposed to take all necessary precautions for this in the hospital. But it seems I was either exposed to something while there, or may possibly be allergic to the pain medicine. My entire back is covered in a rash, and splotches of rash on my arms and stomach. It looks kind of like a bad sunburn. My surgeon's nurse said to stop the pain medicine (oh joy) and se…

Hello to everyone, longtime reader, rarely a responder. I had my VSG on Monday the 3rd of October-everthing so far has gone very smoothly, stayed in hospital until Wed. and once at home started to feel even better with yesterday, Thurs. being the best day yet. I felt wonderful and was trying to get fluids, meds and vitamins in and doing such a good job accidently took one to many vitamins at one time. All of a sudden I felt this awful wave of nausea and I must have looked bad as my husband looked worried and wanted to know what was wrong with me. Made my way to the restroom where I almost vomited-almost, just heaved an couple of good heaves and started to lose the nausea…

I feel so shameful, I know I shouldn't, but do I tell the truth or make up something?? It will be over 2 week Christmas break but I will be gone a few days before and then more? I think it might have something to do with how I failed to lose weight with the band......so what if this also fails or something happens. Thanks!

Granted, it is a bit baggy, but I was wearing a 2x top, and now I wear a 1x or XL. Not a great change. Same thing with my pants. I see commercials on TV where a woman loses 40 lbs. and she has changed 4 dress sizes. What's up with that? I just wonder if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.

  41. When I started this journey I could only think about the good things. I would feel better, look better, I could buy cute clothes. You know the normal stuff. I never really thought about the down side of it. It wasn't until I had the surgery did I realize that food, which was a huge part of my life, would not have the same comfort for me, had people put me down because of my choice, and my weight loss, alienate my friends, and my weight loss would ulimately end my relationship. So, to date I've lost about 95 pounds. I'm down to between a size 6-8, and I feel pretty good. I'm still the same person. I can't eat as much and can barely eat any meat but chicken, but hey…

I started walking more everday 2-4 miles. Plus an extra 30 min walk on my lunch at work. I started drinking more Water and making sure I was hitting my Protein goals. I HAVE HIT A STALL. Not only did I flat out stall. I actually gained a pound. I am 201 now. Weigh in Day is Sunday I am going to be a pound up again! What the heck!?? Each time I tried since June, I slowly started putting on more weight. After more than a month with no cigarettes I still suffered every day. Thanks to some of the posts on this forum, I finally broke and bought an e-cigarette. I bought the 0 nicotine fluid and went through withdrawls the first few days. However, I am now one week down, do not feel deprived or cranky in any way. The best part is that I haven't gained any weight this time! I even stood outside with a smoker friend of mi…

So this is not new to me. I plateaued for months 8 and 9 and lost a bit in month 10, then I've been plateaued again for months 11 and 12. But I attend a support group and know a couple of RNY'ers and they have said "oh, go on a good old fashioned carb binge...it always works for me." LOL. I tried explaining to them that sleevers KEEP THEIR CALORIES, and therefore I don't know if it would work for me or just result in a gain. I haven't tried it yet, and as I said this is not new for me. I have tried plenty of things (more Water, more exercise, more intense exercise, less calories, more calories, etc.) and my body will drop when it's ready. Not my favorite time schedule…

Part of me says that they really don't need to know as they aren't really in my support circle. And as far as my boss is concerned, all I really need to give is about a month notice of time off, I don't even think I need a medical note because I'm part time.
