My surgery is on monday oct 17th . Im ready to get this part over with. Im nervous that I might get sick and throw up alot after surgery. Did most of you have that happen? The pre op diet was a breeze for me. My Dr had us eat 800-900 calories a day and I bought high protien foods from him. They did not taste great but they did keep me full. I lost great on this. Not sure why the other Drs dont do this . Im feeling nervous over what Im going to feel like when I wake up. Say a prayer for me that all goes well.

As my date approaches I am not too fearful about the surgery itself. OR going to Mexico but more of not drinking with meals anymore! lol HOW am I going to remember that?? I have always drank at least 2 glasses of water or other drink with my meal. Guess I better start practicing not drinking. What are some of you concerned about??

Hey October Sleevers, I really need to vent right now. I sense that this might come across sounding like I'm a nut case, mamby-wamby girl baby, or an oh-poor-me-aren't-you-just-a tragic-little-flower type. But the truth is that I am feeling absolutely frozen. Maybe this where the term "frozen in fear" comes from?! I am basically living my life on hold. I am due to be sleeved Oct 17 - next Monday. I am soooo tired of waiting! I find myself not able to concentrate or live my life in a meaningful way right now. I am ordinarily a pretty energetic person who goes out a lot and participates in the world. I am not a cliff diver or mountain climbing marathon runner by any me…

  7. I know this is a little off topic but I need to vent this. I'm just back from clothes shopping. I've been undecided about the VSG and this is about to push me over. I have nothing that fits so off to shop in the fat girl section, yuck. Only to find nothing that fits there. I don't understand the buyers and why they think that fat people only want to animal prints! I mean seriously I look like an elephant with zebra skin, lovely. My arms are so big that even a 3x doesn't work anymore. I can't tell you the self hatred I felt looking in the mirror. My gorgeous teenage daughter pick out the cutest little top with cap sleeves. I had my final appointment with the surgeon today. I walk into the office and talk to the office manager first and I get more info on the surgery date, I already knew it was 10/11 but he told me surgery is at 7:30am and I need to be there at 5:30 and all that other stuff. I thought I was handling it all well. I thought I had everything under control ... I guess that was where I made the mistake! After telling me about the day of surgery he brings me back and takes my blood pressure (which is always low). He didn't tell me what it was but his response was, "ummm are you feeling ok? Are you nervous or excited or something? I'm going to need you to take some deep …

I'm scheduled for October 14th in Grinnell, Iowa with Dr. Stephen Sundberg. I'm past being nervous now, I'm excited!! I am getting a little tired of my pre-op diet, but it's a means to an end-the end of the UNHEALTHY me!!! I'm in love with this forum, and since I will be off of work for 6 weeks after the surgery, I'll probably be one here quite a bit out of pure boredom if nothing else lol. Wishing everyone well!!

My surgery is one week from today. Really, all of my nerves should be about that except we may be facing a potential strike from the airline. It is taking me 4 different flights to get to Seattle for my surgery. And each on of those flights is with Air Canada that may be going on strike. ARRRGGG! So frustrating. We just have our fingers crossed that government intervention is able to delay the strike until we get down there. One week.... unreal. I cannot believe it is happening! kara

I have finally started the process of getting the Vertical Sleeve. I don't have a surgery date yet but I have already had my Lab and EKG work done and a consultation with the Nutritionalist and my Surgeon. I would love to hear from anyone in my area that has had the procedure done. I am going outside to Puget Sound to have the surgery done. So if there is anyone that has gone to that Clinic to have their procedure done I would love to talk to you too. First question - What do we do for clothes while we are losing at such a fast rate? I am now into my second week of the pre-op trying to shrink that liver before my 10/18 surgery! I don't mind the fast so much except I do have moments when I feel very weak. I think the shakes will be so much better with skim milk! My treat is V-8. We are allowed 12 oz/day, but a couple of days when I felt especially I weak have had double that. That is my only "cheat". Trying to get things lined up for when I am in the hospital. Got some meals ready for my son (senior in HS) and tomorrow I am getting a pedicure. Also getting a perm today. Don't want to be worrying about my hair in the first couple of post-op weeks. Also, given how damaging surgery can be to hair…

Just wanted to say hi to all in the October club! My date is 10/11, 2 weeks from yesterday and I just can't wait to be sleeved. I am in the midst of a 4 week doctor ordered liquid diet. Yup, you read that right - 4 weeks! Don't know why but that is what my doctor wants of all his patients for liver shrinking. The first week and a half was pure torture and caused me a lot of meltdowns and tears, but the last few days have gotten a lot easier. I guess my stomach is shrinking because I really don't feel that hungry anymore, but I do crave certain foods. Did anyone ever notice how many commercials have close up pictures of food in them!!! Good morning all Texans. I am from GA but joined this group b/c I'm hoping I can find someone who has used this practice TLC Edge out of Dallas. I was supposed to have Lapband surgery in ATL, GA tomorrow but at the last minute my financed loan crumbled and left me to try and come up with $5000 at the last minute, so I had to cancel. I have been researching VSG for several weeks now wondering if I should take that road instead of the Lapband (mainly b/c of maintenance issues and a foreign object being in my body). I started reasearching VSG doctors and stumbled across this practice. They offer the VSG for $9,990.00 right now. Everything included. I asked why it was so rea…

Hello to all the October Sleevers. Here is my experience from Oct. 4. (I know that before my procedure I wanted to read everything I could about what to expect, so I hope this helps) I was scheduled to be at Good Samaritan Hosp. in San Jose at 4:00 pm for a 6:30 pm procedure time. I personally didn't want to be the last surgery of the day, but you take what you get. It was a 3 hour drive to the hospital, so my parents picked me up and drove me. We checked my parents into their hotel and then headed for the hospital. The admitting nurse was ready and waiting for me to arrive. That was nice. I got setup in the admitting area and had about 50 pages to sign while th…

Some gas but not a real problem, finally released some from the south end if you know what I mean, I am on a full liquid diet and am doing ok same with the sipping of h2o I think I will get in 40-48 oz, not what they want but considering I am 2 days out I think that is good. I am just laying around taking it easy, getting up and walking around every hour or so. I find I feel better by the hour. Now getting ready for my daughters sleeve on 10/13/11

This is the start of my 4th week trying to sleep with a cpap machine because of the results from my sleep study. I *still* have not been able to get a decent night's sleep with it. I'm tired all the time, falling asleep at work, and I travel a lot... there's been a few times I've had to actually pull off at a rest stop and take a nap in my car out of fear of me falling asleep and crashing. In those 4 weeks, I've sleep (not counting naps) twice WITHOUT it, and they were great nights! I've *never* had an problem sleeping or feeling rested UNTIL I started using this blasted machine. I'm sooooooo done. So what do I do now? Do I just take it back and say no thanks?…

Has anyone else become addicted to sugar free mints or sugar free hard candies to prevent from throwing up? Also, I’m getting 600-800 cals a day and taking my Vitamins and most days I get in my 8 glasses of Water or crystal light. Doc says that the nauseous feeling should go away but I am starting to resent food period…lol! Hoping not to develop a non-eating problem here!

I have to watch my weight cause if I gain a couple of lbs from overindulgence, if I stick to Protein and veggies for a couple of days, it comes right off. Please share whether you're struggling cause you can't stop losing, or do you go up and down and give yourself a few lbs cushion?

  35. Hi all- I saw a personal trainer at Lifetime Fitness for a free session that I earned for my one year anniversary with the club. These guys are pretty well-informed (they only hire Bachelor's and higher degrees). Anyway, she took my bodyfat measurement using 7 sites for analysis. According to the trainer, I currently have approximately 40% body fat. In order to be at what she considered a healthy body fat, she wanted me to get down to 20% which would put me at about 190 lbs. This really surprised me. I know measuring body fat with calipers isn't an exact science but she really seemed to know what she is doing. I am now really interested in the Bod Pod Diva wrote abou…

Hi All, I'm new to the site and new to considering VSG. I have Kaiser SoCal and just recently graduated from their Options classes on this Thursday passed. All through the program, I was gunho about the LB until I heard from one of their nutritionist by week 11. I understood a little at the beginning that Kaiser wasn't too excited about the LB but I simply thought it was due to slower weight loss results. Then the nutritionist went into detail about problems with the lapband such as erosion, leaks, slips etc. My eyes were bucked open!! I must admit I was always curious about the VSG as a second option but never bothered to look into it due to being LB adamant. Howe…

Hi everyone, I just stumbled on this topic and I love it! I was sleeved on June 27th and I have really slowed down. I'm down 36 lbs in about 14 weeks, which is less than 3 lbs a week. But in the last month I'm averaging 1 lb a week. It's horribly frustrating, but I guess slow is good as long as it keeps coming off. Have any of you noticed that maybe you weren't eating enough? I remember that from Weight Watchers...so I ate a couple hundred more calories a day and broke my stall. I don't know, I just would love to be down 40 lbs when I go see surgeon on October 19th. I haven't see him since one week after surgery. Take care :-)

She had been trying to get me to have WLS for a year before I finally admitted to myself that it was the right thing to do for me. Every step of the way she has been supportive and encouraging. She determined that she would not be the fat wife. We had always been a heavier couple, me much more so than her. She has done a terrific job following a better diet and exercising. She has lo…

I'm 69 and five years out from my sleeve. Last summer (2010) I was highly motivated because my granddaughter got married, and then a couple of months later I attended my 50-year high school reunion. I actually lost enough weight that I was my high school weight at the reunion. It was great. Then, somehow, a couple of pounds here and a couple of pounds there, I picked up 30 pounds the following year. So I went back on the protein shakes, and am really frustrated at how slowly the weight is coming off. Is it just because I'm older? Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Paying cash in Mexico is still cheaper and with a lot less hoops to jump through.

I think I started this journey in spring of 2010 at about 480 pounds. I don't know for sure because I didn't have a scale that could weigh me. Neither did my regular doctor. My insurer required a 12 month diet/coaching program. I got down to a low of 416, but I was up as high as 450 late in the program. After the liver shrinking diet, I was at 420. The day after surgery, I was at 409. Things have been slow since August 11 in that there were a lot of days where I'd see no movement or maybe even a pound or two of increase. I didn't let it get me down because I'm getting smaller even if I'm not seeing scale movement. That changed today. I just stepped on the scale and saw:…
