Hey everyone. Idk if its all in my head but I have been sooo hungry and I'm 8 days post op. Is this normal? Did anyone else feel hungry after their surgery? I feel like there's something wrong with me. If anyone can let me know their experiences that would be great.

  2. Started by MissBliss,

I was sleeved August 2nd...doing great! 45 pounds down so far, got the clearance to eat almost anything on Friday (nuts, alcohol, and carbonated beverages still no-no's). No nausea, no slimies, incisions all healed, no problems except an intense craving for diet coke that is only partly satiated by crystal light..sigh. I love that there is a forum for us August All Stars!!! I am going to have fun reading up on how everyone is doing!!! Glad to be here!!!! ~Jane

  3. Started by lorip,

I thought this day would never get here. I leave this morning for San Diego and I will be sleeved tomorrow. I am not nervous at all except the flight back. I hope I don't become to weak to handle the airports and the flights. Does any know if your allowed to take protein tubes on the plane? I really don't know what to drink other than water but I still want to get my protein in today?

Hi all, Just calling a roll call to check in on our sucesses or frustrations! Me...I started at almost 440lbs...lost 45 on 6 month diet for insurance and then between the 3 day pre-op and since have lost 36 more with adds up to 81 total. I have had a month stall but the scale began moving again today a bit. I eat around 1000 cals a day, 60-75 g of protein, drink the 64oz+ and try to stay under 50g of carbs....I'm thrilled with the progress but bummed that nothing happened for a month...how about the rest of you! 6. So I am due to check in at Trinity Medical Center in Mountain Brook, AL at 9am and I am scheduled for 11am. I took my at-home enema drink at noon and around 2pm, I became very nauseous and dizzy. This has past and at 4:30, it started to work.... just in time to start getting my daughter ready for her softball game, 45 minutes away. I have NEVER had a surgery before in my life so I am very nervous about the anesthesia... if I will have a reaction to it, how long I will be asleep for, will I have difficulty waking up, WILL I WAKE UP?? that's my biggest fear right there. As the mother of 3 young kids, It truly does scare me. My husband will be going with me and wi…

  7. So tomorrow at 9 am I will be getting my sleeve and for the past 2 days I have been on a clear liquid diet..... I am sooo hungry lol..... so yesterday my family and I go to Sea World and its great I got my water and Im tolerating and ignoring my hunger and by the time we get home Im craving food... so I get a can of soup and strain it... ok curves my hunger ,so my husband buys a pizza and when I walk into our kitchen and smell it, i turn around and leave... so i tell my hubby that I would love a piece but I can't so he tells me "Go ahead and have just one" ... uhhmmm nooo I tell him thanks for the support and wanted to cry .... soooo between being fiercely hungry and n…

Hi! (Sorry for this long post.) I'm nearing the end of my pre-op requirements, and as I posted in another topic, I found out I have Barrett's Esophagus, which is caused by acid reflux. I've now consulted with the bariatric surgeon and the gastroenterologist. --The bariatric surgeon strongly recommends I have a gastric bypass instead of the sleeve, but admits he's never had a sleeve patient with Barrett's. --The gastro says I should have the sleeve because he has had so many patients with severe complications from the bypass. --The bariatric surgeon says the sleeve may cause a lot of reflux and I'll have to eventually have a bypass to fix it. --The gastro sa…

I don't ride my own bike yet, I'm currently a passenger on my husbands Harley Roadking. But I enjoy riding a lot, and was wondering how soon I'll be able to go again. My birthday is next month, I was going to take my rider's safety course, and get a bike then, is that too soon? I was sleeved on the 7th, and am looking to ride alone on October 28th. I would love to go for a ride again soon, but don't when when it is safe. Thanks Sarah

After jumping through all the hoops this summer and spending a substantial amount of money, my insurance has denied my request for revision to sleeve. Reason: "excludes gastric sleeve procedure and , therefore, it is not covered benefit under your Presbyterian benefit plan." I don't really understand why they didn't tell me this in the first place. they would just say "we have to get the info from your doctor, then we decide". Anyone have any experience with this? I'm so disappointed. I was hoping for Christmas surgery date. Thanks all!

I can't believe that I have lost 70 pounds! That's so hard for me to wrap my head around. I hope that by the end of the week I can say that I'm just over weight. LOL.... Deb

Good morning All Stars! This morning I came in 180.4. Only shy of two pounds since the end of August. But that is okay. I have always been a slow loser and I figured even WLS would not change that and so far that has been true. I am starting to have less nausea thank goodness! And less trips to the bathroom. Been walking 3-5 times per week. Trying to get my strength back.It has taken longer than I expected. It is very comforting to not have that "hungry feeling" all the time. I no longer feel the need to chew my arm off all the time! Been doing a better job of tracking my food on myfitnesspal.com...same name if you want to friend me. Look forward to hearing from…

I know everyone is different but wondering if those that needed the extra time was because they just needed the rest or because they were really still feeling bad/sick?

As for my boobs, she documented that I have back pain and the excess skin pulls and is very painful. There is a rash developing. So this is a good start. She is in favor of the plastics. She was impressed that I lost 9 pounds in a month. I go back to see my surgeon next month. I'm hopeful that I will be at least halfway to goal by then. (Fingers crossed) Deb

  35. Hi, I just joined this site hoping to find someone else like me, and some good advice. I am 1 year and 1 month post op. My dr. does mostly gastric bypass surgeries, so out of the 40 people who attend monthly support meetings, I am the only sleeve. I am 40 pounds down pre-op (6)/surgery (34). I am now realizing that I can eat more than before. I am tempted by chocolate because it goes down so easy. Had some sno caps at the movie. Didn't eat the whole box even though I could have so was glad for the self-control for once! Slurpees also go down so easy Peanut Butter too! So these past couple of days I have wanted sweets which at first I never thought I could eat, but now things are a bit easier and anything that melts in my mouth that I don't have to chew just slides right on down. I am not feeling too bad about it, but I don't want to get out of control. I haven't started working out yet, but know I …

I was hoping to get 2-3 weeks of solid loss first, but it's not like I have control. I just follow the plan and what happens, happens. I did expect it to be slow since I lost 53 lbs pre op. Hope y'all are doing well and feeling good.

I thought that a % of your stomach was removed- I know with the band there were multiple sizes but I would think all surgeons remove the same amount. My doctor said he would remove 80-85% of my stomach so what "size" would that sleeve be?

I was on the lapband discussion forum three years ago. I was banded in October 2008 and was a "success" for nearly 18 months. I lost 106 pounds and felt great! Then the band started tightening and loosening for no apparent reason. It was incredibly frustrating. Each time I went in to have Fluid put in or removed, it cost me $250. I admit I lived with it much too tight for a long time due to finances. I vomited daily and had chest pain with every meal, but I kept trying to make it work! In May of this year, my band lost restriction completely. Fearing an erosion or slippage, I saw my surgeon. He repeatedly tried to put fluid in, but was never able to get any ba…

I spoke with the insurance coordinator for my new surgeon's office today. She says that even though he says that a revision to the sleeve is medically necessary, my insurance will probably not pay for it. Apparently, my insurance makes patients meet all the same restrictions that they had to meet for the first surgery, including having a high BMI for two years before the revision, regardless of whether the revision is because of complications from the original surgery (severe pouch dilation in my case). I'm ready to scream. My insurance is excellent except for this one clause.
