I'm finding that lots of folks are horrified that I am going to Mexico for surgery. I live in Los Angeles, we practically are in Mexico, it's only 2 hours away. I can't take the naysayers.

Tomorrow I am allowed to start mushy foods I was so excited about this a week ago, now everytome I think about food it makes ms sick. I tried eating this morning and my second really, really small bite I got sick and had to run to the bathroom. I dont know what is wrong with me and the way I feel now I would be happy if I never had to eat food again. Is this normal or should I talk to my nut?

After much juggling and such by my doctor's office (who must employee miracle workers!), I am officially having my surgery tomorrow morning! I am petrified and excited and nervous and anxious all rolled up in to one. There's a different route that I had to take, though. I have to have the gastric bypass because my insurance has decided they won't pay for a sleeve. I admit I was bummed and off kilter for a little bit. I'm going to go ahead with the bypass because that was my first decision before I discovered the sleeve option. I have an amazing doctor that I adore and I just feel okay with it all. I suppose I'll have to leave this board now (after I check and make sure th…

Hey everyone, how is everyone doing? Time is moving fast, 8/15 is 2 weeks, i can't believe how quick it has come and the difference. I am down 20 lbs, this is just so exciting to me. I have not been under 300lbs for some years now and I am 6 lbs away! I am ready to be off the full liquid, I still have my need to chew! I am having a hard time getting in more than 13oz of Protein a day. I can drink crystal light, ice tea or Water all day but i have little desire to take in the allowed items. My follow up is on 8/16 maybe they can give me some pointers on the protein. So that's all with me, whats going on with the rest of the all stars!?

I have been around all kind of boards lately !! ALL WLS boards! and I found out that 99% of those who had their band to sleeve revision where having band complications (slipping etc etc) and none had it for too long like my case! without complications! and ended up having their band to sleeve revision. So I am wondering is there anyone out here who can share their reasons why they had the revision beside complications? Thank u

First follow-up earlier today. Doing just fine. Down 7.6 kg (16.72 lb) in 11 days. Practically no nausea. Slight residual discomfort around one incision only. Back to work. No hunger. Switched to semi-solids today Was apprehensive about staple removals - did not even feel 12 of the 14 - just heard the clicks - slight tug (not unpleasant) on two. Quite a relief! Good luck and best wishes to all fellow sleevers.

I start my pre-op diet on Monday and thought it would be nice for us to have a tread where we can talk about our pre-ops if we have them. I have to do 4 Protein shakes a day. 64oz Fluid and unlimited non starchy veggies. I can also choose 6 of the following - v8, oatmeal/cream of wheat, low fat yogurt with no fruit, no sugar added applesauce and sugar free pudding. My plan is to make a huge pot of veggie Soup tomorrow to eat as lunch/dinner, also planning salads, sauteed veggies and fresh veggies in a plain greek yogurt dip (hidden valley ranch). I figure the oatmeal and cream of wheat will do me for Breakfast along with a Protein shake when I get up. I love sugar free…

Hi I am now 5 weeks out. I am getting enough Protein, but liquids seem to be my problem. I used to love drinking water, now I can't stand it. I have tried it ice cold, room temperature, filtered, bottled, flavored, but it just all seems to make me nauseated. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get more liquid in. I am supposed to be drinking 64 oz, but struggling to get 40 oz. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks Karen

I am one year post op from having my lap band removed due to erosion. Now 49 pounds later I am looking ready for the sleeve. I was just curious if anyone else had an eroded band and now has the sleeve. If so, how is it working for you? Better than the band?

So I've been an insomniac for decades and like 10 years back I went to the doctor and got a scrip for anti depressants and anti anxiety drugs, slept pretty good for a few years. Then it started again. Then he gave me a scrip for a sleep aid - which worked for about 6 months. Now I'm off EVERYTHING - and BTW - it is HELL ON EARTH coming off both Paxil AND Xanax reliance! Then WLS and a massive drop in weight. I slept pretty well for a few months afterward, even got off my CPAP after dropping 100+ pounds. Now I get 2 or 3 hours a night if I'm lucky. I started taking 3.5 ounces of red wine every evening for heart health and in hopes the slug of alcohol would help me sl…

Prior to WLS I was borderline hypertensive, the doc put me on different meds and both made be immediately and suddenly nauseas - not fun. So this is one of the many things that gave me a kick in the a$$ to go forward with WLS. Now 8+ months out and nearing 160 pounds loss I seem to be swinging the other way - HYPOtensive! I use the BP monitor at the gym and it consistently reads low, I pretty much disregarded it because who trusts a clunky old machine the size of a breadbox that gets used and abused and never calibrated? Well after about the 4th or 5th low reading in a row I finally broke out my own home machine. Idle since shortly after WLS. It's one of the typ…

After I received my official date today, I really got pumped for us September sleevers! But you know what I realized? We don't have a name.... So it is time for us to throw some ideas out there and see what sticks! We can totally do this. *fist pump* I am feeling kind of fiesty right now, so I am especially partial to the idea of being a Spitfire.

Hi Everyone I'm starting a new thread so we UK sleevers can share our progress. For me, it will be 3 months since my surgery next week. I weighed myself this morning, and worked out that I've now lost 5 stone 2.8lbs! The difference it has made to my life has been incredible. I was in a size 30, I'm now in a size 24/26. I seem to be losing about a stone a month now. My hair isn't falling out at all at the moment but I am quite careful about taking in Protein. I had my first piece of chocolate the other day and it was nice, but I don't feel like I need to eat lots of it anymore. I get compliments left, right and centre about how much I'm changing and my friends tell me…

OK so I had surgery on July 25 20011. The weight is shedding off of me very fast, thats a good thing. My concern is that with the fat lose there is also muscle lose. While I am on this journey of losing the weight and reaching my target goal, I still want to maintain fitness. I do not want to be a sucked up frail 41 year old man that reaches his target weight! I don't think it will be possible to gain muscle mass while losing weight at this pace? I also want to focus on cardio fitness strength and muscular fitness strength and size. Can I please get some feed back from you guys on how you went about achieving these type of fitness goals???? Thank you!!! ; )

Yay! I heard from my primary care doctor, therapist and psychiatrist today. They all are in enthusiastic support of my decision to get a VSG, and with the doctor I've chosen in Mexico! Wow. Didn't expect so much positive feedback from them. I'd been worried about how they'd react. It's fantastic! Full steam ahead now

ok here is my story......I had lap-band surgery in July 2008 and I lost about 75 pounds, granted I was throwing up most of my food that I ate, so I am sure that’s why I lost the weight. In my mind throwing up and losing weight and having a little bit of port pain and side pain was outweighing not having to take blood pressure meds and having sleep apnea and getting heart disease, (which runs in my family) so I just dealt with it up until March of 2011 when I got to the point where I could not get any food or water down without it coming right back up and I starting having really bad reflux and pain in my stomach and port area. I had to go to the Dr. and he removed all my …

Help!!! I am only 4 weeks out from my band to sleeve revision and I can eat anything and everything. I feel hunger all the time, and started my nexium after reading on here that it helps. When will that kick in. I reread my paperwork and I am only supposed to be able to eat 1/4 cup of food 4x a day... I am eating at least 1 full cup at a sitting. This is so different from the band, I almost crave that "one bite too many" feeling back.. I feel like a failure.. have I stretched my new stomach out already... what am I to do?

Well, my insurance has approved both surgeries, but I am having trouble figuring out a good window to take a bunch of time off from work. I am also having some scheduling challenges on the homefront I am so looking forward to having the band removed, but I am still pretty nervous about the sleeve - I have decided to proceed, but I feel like I want some things in life settled before taking on such a major thing. I have been gaining weight (up 5 pounds in 2 months) ever since I started seriously investigating the sleeve, so I absolutely must do something! I am having some challenges on the homefront due to my husband having a serious health issue he simply refuses to…

Folks, my 5-day update, for whatever it's worth... Summary: Feeling GOOD, and getting BETTER each day... Weight Loss: 3.3 kg (7.26 lb) in 5 days! Diabetes: Off my medication since the surgery; blood sugar levels are currently in the normal range. Waiting to see what happens once I move to the pureed, then solids... Energy Level: Great. Am up early, and do not feel the need to nap during the day (1-2 hours daily, earlier!). Some phases of feeling dehydrated and low, but learning to adjust diet accordingly. Am walking 2-3 times a day. Pain / Discomfort: No pain. Just some residual tenderness around 1-2 incisions. Some nausea / gas, but learning to adju…

Finally a chance to sit down and do this - I started my pre-op diet on 7/25, had it easier than most as I was allowed to have non starchy veggies and a limited amount of more carby items such as hot Cereal, applesauce, v8, sf pudding and light yogurt as well as all the liquids. Had to drink the magnesium citrate on Sunday August 7th - not as bad as I feared, added a limeade mix in to it and was able to get it down. I had to do this at 4pm and was only allowed 1 Protein drink and Clear Liquids that day so there wasn't too much to "clear out." Monday August 8th I had to be at the hospital (Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL) at 9am. I was ushered in to the …

I am proud and excited to say that as July 18th I have officially joined the 2 century club! I am now down 204lbs since the start of this journey. I still can not believe it's gone as well as it has. I thank God for the success he has allowed me to see with this process. For the first time in at least 23 years I am under 300lbs. This takes me back to my early days in high school. I have never been at my current weight as an adult. I still keep expecting to wake up from this dream and find myself still carrying around nearly 500lbs of mass. For all those that have 200+ to lose and question if it can happen for them let me tell you it can and will. I started th…

Hello, I am new here. I have been researching WLS for a couple of years and I am finnally going for it. I have gotten the referal from my doc. I have had the blood tests and appt that are required from my insurance. (chess xrays, ekgs ect.). I have my first appointment with my surgeon on the 13th of July. I am very excited. I would like to lose 150 lbs. Currently 315ish and would like to get down to 165. I am having a hard time getting the PSYCH to sign me off. I had marriage issues in January and she does not believe that enough time has passed for me to go through such a change. The marriage is doing fine and is back on the right track, if not better. I ha…

Hi, I'm 6 days post op and will be turning 60 next month. I try pretty hard to hide the silver on the top of my head but after hearing all the stories about hair lose I may be grateful for any strands, no matter the color, in a few months. Think this group is a great idea. I know one thing I've noticed this week is I don't bounce back surgery like I used to. Had a knee repaired 8 years ago and was back at work in a week. I think I will be putting in a few hours each day, from home, next week. Looking forward to hearing from all in the group

I haven't been around in a while, just now able to really sit at the computer for long. Congrats to all of those on the losers bench and to those joining us soon. I'm still having pain and needing Tylenol every 4 hours, but I am getting around well. I was up and walking a lot right after surgery. They called me their star patient, but I seemed to have a lot of pain and bruising. sleeping is a challenge, but I have no hunger and have not regretted this once. I actually gained 12lbs overnight from all of the fluids. It took quite a while to lose that, but the pounds started melting off within the last 3 days. I am 8 days post op and down 7lbs even with the 12lb w…

For the past month I have been weeding through my closet. I have found some old clothes that I can now wear to work. My can wear pile is way smaller than the can't wear pile. My size has went from a 16 to a 14 (I'm guessing) in about five weeks. The 16's are baggy in the butt and waist. So I'm going shopping. My vacation starts Sept. 1 and will be heading to the beach so need some cute capris and tanks. Love that feeling. Deb

My husband and I went to the vitamin store on post/base (he's retired military) and got what I needed for after surgery. Got some protein powder, chewable adult multi-vitamins, liquid B complex, and dissolve-in-your-mouth B-12 strips. Went ahead and got chewable fish oil (they taste like orange starburst!). Already have my chewable calcium ready to go. Tomorrow will be personal stuff for the hospital. My children are embarrassed I plan on taking my Crocs to wear to do my walking in the hallways. I told them I fully intend to be comfortable since I'll be in some pain. They're not coming to visit me as they are in school and my youngest might have issues seeing me in that t…

So havent been on in a while but im hoping to get some advice from anyone that might have some. It seems like lately iv found that im eating less and less.... about 2months ago i was up to around 600 cals a day, Since then Iv found that iv been eating less and less now im down to under 200cals a day. Its not because I am trying not to eat,(or i dont think thats what it is) its because I am not hungry, and when I am hungry, such a small amount fills me that im full after eating very little. I rarely feel hungry and when I do I usually eat something very small (100 cals or under) and then im pretty much full for the rest of the day. I think maybe some of it could be phyco…

My surgery was Tuesday (Aug. 9), and it went well. During the surgery, my doctor also fixed a small hiatal hernia that I didn't even know I had. I was in the hospital for two nights, which is normal for my surgeon. I was pretty groggy the first evening, but I felt good. I wasn't good company for my visitors. The second day was long. I learned how to take care of things like my drain and did the leak test. I got worried during the leak test. I had been told constantly to sip when first consuming liquids, and the radiologist was telling me to take large gulps and swallow them. It was freaking me out a bit, and I think that helped me overlook how bad the stuff tasted. …

This a.m., 180 lbs. Goal, 150 lbs by Nov. 1. Workouts--running, swimming, or weights 4-5x/week, which I should really bump up to 6 days. Tweaked my knee running a couple of days ago so swimming today and no lower body weights until the pain goes away. Low-carbing, carbs are usually around 30-35 (my calcium gives me 10, so not much room there). Calories between 500-700 most days, usually around 650, protein between 60-80. I have lost my hunger so I usually eat by the clock, but some days my stomach doesn't want any food until the afternoon so I have a protein shake.

I have been researching WLS for a couple of years now, knowing that my husband and I could not easily afford it. It wasn't until a few months ago that I found out I could get the sleeve done in Mexico for 1/3 to 1/2 of the price. I was denied over and over again by the medical finance companies that work with the surgeons. So, I sat down and made a budget thinking that I could probably have enough money saved up in a year. I was disappointed because I just turned 29 and wanted to be near my goal weight before I turn 30 (no real reason, just a goal I had set). I told my mom and husband about the going to Mexico idea, and even though they were afraid of going there (be…

I posted this over at OH too but figured someone here might could help too... I'm currently searching for a registered dietician that specializes in bariatrics, if anyone knows someone that will do phone/internet consults, please send them my way. I do have a great lead from my trainer, but throwing that out there... I had an appointment last week with my surgeon. He wasn't thrilled with my weight loss so far (not disappointed, but wanted to see more). I've lost 32 pound since surgery, almost 7 weeks ago. This week, so far (tomorrow is weigh in day), I've lost only 1 pound. The doctor doesn't think plauteaus should happen this early out and I should be losing 4…
