Sorry guys but I have to ask. I am struggling to get in my Protein. I was told to up it to at least 60 but more like over 100. So ONE day I decided to drink 4 of the Premier Protein costco drinks that have 30 grams each of protein. I got in 120 grams and the very next day I literally thought I would DIE. I had major bathroom issues like never in my entire life. Nothing would work. And I mean NOTHING. I thought I was going to have to get a stick of dynamite. Sorry for being so out there but it was horrifying!! I had to go to the doctor. They told me a lot of protein like that can really mess you up. Maybe my body wasn't used to it or maybe that brand of shakes wh…

I have been sleeved for 4 weeks and am now on regular food. While I am happy that my portion size is smaller than the band, I feel like I am constantly hungry. A meal only lasts about 90 minutes and I have gnawing hunger, not head hunger. I have incorporated good Snacks into my diet, but didnt have to do this with the band. As you can guess, I am frustrated.

Since getting the sleeve I've found that my medications are all screwed up. I need to crush them for 3 months. One was a time release medication but I crushed it up anyways without knowing and now feel like I haven't been taking it. I'm going to call the doctor today and get another kind that is able to be crushed up. Make sure you get your medications switched so they all can be crushed or compounded in syrup if you have this surgery!

Hi all, I had my sleeve done 9 days ago and feel brilliant. I have just been reading the info supplied by my surgeon and it occurred to me that there is no clear info on the time that we are at risk of a leak. Does anyone know if this is a short term risk or something we are always going to be at risk of. I would really appreciate feedback on this one... Many thanks, Fiona

I finally decided to have the sleeve surgery. Im just real unsure about telling people. I dont want to have to explain my decision process to anyone. Ive told my husband, kids, and a few close friends because I knew they will support me. How do you handle the negativity toward WLS?

Alright, I just need to vent.... In the last 2.5 weeks I have lost exactly .06 lbs. I am exercising, eating right, etc. and it is SO frustrating to continuously see the same numbers on the scale. Last night I weighed before I went to bed and I weighed 191. I was excited because I thought I might hit somewhere in the 190 or even 189 range this morning (I usually see a few lb loss in the morning). Nope - 191 exactly again this morning. I've been bouncing around there since before Thanksgiving. UUUGGh. I know all of the vets say "keep doing what your doing" and it will come off but it is painfully slow. I am frustrated!

Still losing steady! Down 1.6lbs. Have not stalled since the 3 week stall. Just slow and steady and that is fine with me! I would rather go at this pace than the roller coaster of previous weight loss attempts. It is soooo nice to be on my feet and walking without the pain that the weight was causing me. I have gone from the bottom of the Obese BMI scale to the bottom of the Overweight BMI. Now I am knocking on the door at the top of the right weight category!!!! Wow! I could never have done this without the sleeve. NEVER!

Ok, I've read about the stalls (especially the third week) but for those of you who have lost a lot weight, what was it like early on for you? I think my expectations were that I had so much to lose and was eating so bad before surgery that perhaps I wouldn't have a stall for awhile and lose 7-8 lbs a week for the first 6-8 weeks. Maybe my expectations were too high but when you have 220 lbs to lose the quicker the better. Here has been my weight loss per week over the last 6 weeks. As you can see I had a great pre-op week and first week after surgery but the last two weeks things have really slowed down. I know better than to ask for a pity party on here so what I'm re…

Ohhh boy...the buyers remorse is not letting up. My energy is so low that when I walked in my GP's office, he took my stats and threw me on a table to take, heart and blood tests. My energy is so low that I can't walk more than a few feet without needing a break. Pulse was at 176 p/m! My blood sugar was low as well. I've been trying so hard to be text book with the diet, but it's hard to get all the fluids and food they ask. With all the things I'm dealing with...how is it possible to be happy right now? I've lost 16 lbs by day 11 and I could care less!!! I just want to feel normal again! Somebody please give me some motivation right now.

I pose this to everyone. I have noticed alot of posts, blogs or mentioning (here and elsewhere), that post operative pain and persistent conditions are beginning to trend to MD's, their staff and other MD's post op - and even sleevers - that pain and discomfort is typical. If it is not easily diagnosed or found in a test it is "probably ________", fill in the blank. Gas, bloating, settling (wtf you aren't supposed to "settle", they took out a part of your stomach, they didn't detach it and leave it to float around)! This alarms me. We are taking this big step, and the improvements on mortality are getting better everyday for post-op sleevers, but there seems to be a tre…

I would really appreciate some honest feedback from all of you. I went to my 5 month follow up appointment today at my surgeon's office. I don't see him at these appointments but rather a nurse or a PA. She went over my labs, bp, bmi etc. All good but then she says "94 lbs in 5 months...hmmm...that's not good..what is going on here?" She then proceeded to tell me that I should have lost at least another 20 or so pounds by now but if I can start losing at LEAST 5 pounds per week from now on then "maybe" I can "get back on track". She then asked if I wanted to get squeezed into see the nutritionist while I was there to try and figure out what's going wrong. Ok needle…

So this may be a silly question, but I'm a hefty sized girl so I figured it doesnt hurt to ask. I heard that they wheel you into the operating room and you have to scoot onto a super skinny operating table. Does anyone remember the "waking up" part and having to scoot off of the skinny table back onto the bed, or do they somehow lift you? I dont even know if this question makes sense but in my head it is lol.

I had the sleeve done on Aug 19 2011. Age 55. Start weight was 380 pre-op. At date of surgery I was 342. Today I'm 238! and still loosing for a total of 142 lbs. While at JH I was treated better than any hospital at home. My hat off to the team and Dr. Almanza for giving my life back. Long gone is the high blood pressure pills. I/2 of my diabetes pills gone with my doctor telling me that within 2 months I'll be off them totaly. Gave ALL my clothes away --went from size 52 jeans to 38. WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO SAY!!!!! Follow the pre-op and post-op rules to the letter, trust the team (I'm sorry I forgot to mention Louise Johnson and thank her) and start living the life God me…

It's my transition week into real food (yay!) and per my surgeons instructions, no Fluid intake 1 hour prior to eating, and no fluid 1 hour after. Why? What is the purpose of this? Is this rule forever? I have my work holiday party coming up, and I find myself negotiating "do I want to eat? Or do I want fluids?", I have Breakfast with a friend every Friday and I'm also worried I'll have a lifetime of choosing between coffee or the eggs each week. Im guessing there's a direct reason why, but I'd love to know why I'm spending hours a day avoiding hydration.

Well it has officially been one week since my sleve surgery! I have been so lucky with the ease of this whole process. Dr. Aceves and his team were wonderful. I had no gas pain and very little pain at my incisions. The worst part so far was trying to choke down the nasty blue stuff for the leak test! I am still on Clear liquids for a few more days. I am doing my best to get all the liquids and Protein in, it seems to get easier every day. I have been very lucky! The best news is that as of this morning I have lost 21 pounds since surgery! I could not believe my eyes! I am glad to see that everyone is doing well, and I am so so so glad to finally be o…

Hi guys! I'm Bcole and I am 24 years old. I just recently found this forum and have been lurking for about 2 weeks. My VSG was scheduled on January 2, 2012, however after my last appt. today, my surgery has been moved up to December 21, 2011. YIKES!! Right before Christmas. I was not prepared (mentally) to have my surgery this soon. The nervousness is really starting to kick in! I have been dreaming about my hospital stay and I even had a dream that I was drinking a sprite and it just game right up and squirted out of my mouth! LOL so weird! I don't have to do the 2 week liquid diet before hand, so I am thankful for that! I'm really hoping that the pain won't be too b…

I'm at a month out now (woohoo!), and I have not gone #2 in over a week (boohoo!)- I've tried everything to be recommended: Miralax, Sodium Ducosate, coffee, lots of Water, olive oil, hot baths, massage, jogging...nada. It's there, but it's not moving..if you know what I mean. My surgeon is 3 hours away, and I cannot go visit him. I can see my general MD (I do not have insurance though), and I figured perhaps a colonic may be the best option. Has anyone else done this with success? I'm so happy with my weight loss, but being this backed up has me fearing for my life. I don't know how else to get things moving.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I am struggling with something and I dont really have anyone else to talk to about it so I am hoping that you have some words of wisdom for me. My sleeve is working great and I am following all of my doctors orders (except 64ounces of fluids-just cant get them in). So what is the problem...I am proud of my self. I am proud of how I look. Now keep in mind I still have a ways to go but from where I started I just feel like I look good. I do not want the devil to have a foot hole here you know what I am saying!!! I praise God that He has seen me through the surgery and recovery but I need to attribute my success to Him and I need to find…

Hey August All Stars! Let's keep the updates going! It is great to see how everyone is doing and kind of gives me a gauge as to whether I am on track or not. This week was flat for me - no loss. It was funny though because everyone seemed to start noticing my weight loss this week - people I work with, parents of my children's friends, people at church. Everyone is asking me about it... maybe I lost some inches this week. I finally had to break down and buy some new pants. All of mine, even the ones that were tight at the beginning are hanging off of me. I could still wear them with a belt or safety pin but decided to treat myself. Fashion Bug had a huge afte…

As a kids, I was a HUGE milk drinker. As an adult, I still liked milk but soda became more of my preferred drink. Anyways, I've had some milk a few times since surgery and didn't have any issues until fairly recently. I have noticed that my desire for different foods were changing which I expected from reading other people's experiences. I know lactose intolerance was also a possibility, but figured if it would happen it would have happened before now. Anyways, I've noticed over the past few months that my sweet tooth cravings were GREATLY diminished- great! Then, I started noticing that sometimes I would feel a little sick after eating a single size chocoate bar o…

I know many people list this information in sucess stories and such, but I was hoping to post a few specific quesions How overweight were you/how old when you developed yor co-morbid conditions? I am thinking most specifically diabetes, but mention anything you encountered. Asthma, inflamation, hypertension, hormone or lympic conditions, skin conditions, infertility, back pain, pain in legs, sleep apnea, etc. When were you able to notice improvement that went from emergent to noticeable, daily consistent improvement? Are you doing better, or did the condition reverse? Feel free to include anything I forgot...

OK, I need some help! Here lately, just after I eat, I feel like food is sitting in my esophagus. It feels like a lump in my throat and I feel I need to burp but can't, then I burp a lot, then I can't burp and so on until it finally dissipates. What is going on? I'm not over eating...this happens when I eat anything. Any ideas?

December 21st. That is the day I take the plunge. I am nervous, scared, and excited. My goal is 175 lbs. I feel that I will achieve, but of course, I worry about the finality of it all. Then I remember ho long I have pondered this and that I am ready. Ready for change, ready for commitment, ready for life. I am not going to be consumed by the claustrophobia of limitations. I am ready to go easy, be contented, and savor moderation. I'm not a dog in the pound. The food will not run out. I will have plenty. Plenty of life, love, and peace. Change is coming and I am prepared for it.

Thanksgiving is a little more than 5 weeks away. Is anyone interested in doing a Thanksgiving Day challenge?? For me it's kind of a cool day because all my judgemental family will be there and I'll be smaller than my always thinner than me nasty sister. I can't wait to go to that family get together and look sexy and amazing. She has put me down for years and has no idea that I had WLS. Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to showing her up??? Anyway, I'm more likely to work hard for a short term goal so anyone want to join me on this challenge?? Send a reply and tell us how much you want to lose before that fabulous day.... We'll encourage each other.

LOL......Has anyone lost weight while doing the C25K program? My weight has been bouncing for a what seems like forever. I read that some people don't lose weight, but inches as their clothes fit differently since doing the program. Then there are the ones that lose while doing the program. Just curious if anyone successfuly completed the program and lost weight while getting there. Thanks for any info! Deb.

I have been thinking of how to answer this question and cannot come up with an adequate response. People (i.e. my Mom) say "Just eat LIKE people who have had the surgery and you'll lose the same amount of weight". OR "If you can do the preop diet and lose weight, just keep that up". How can I put in to words what I want to say? I cannot keep the preop diet up forever OR "pretend" like I had the surgery. I know I don't need to defend my choices and I am 100% sure in my decision, but if someone else has a good answer to this question I would LOVE to hear it. Anne

Welcome to my personal thread. I will detail my journey here on my final countdown. I have 27 Lbs to my ultimate goal!! As I already mentioned in the other thread: So... here I go!! It's probably going to take me 4 more months to get to this goal, however I'd really REALLY love to reach it by my Sleeversary which will be on September 15th. Just at the tail end of Summer. *Sigh* Wish me luck!! To start off fresh I'm going to write myself up a new workout routine and ensure I'm eating as healthy as possible. I have 27 Lbs to lose in just a little over 3 months. Ugghh!!! That's 9 Lbs per month average!! Gonna be tough but I think I can do it.

DOS is 12/6/11. Can't wait but..... i hope its ok that i cry here. My DH I are going to CA. on Friday for 4 days. to see my 81 yr. old mother We're flying to the west coast to help her after she fell and broke her pelvis.... She has tickets for a play (she'll use a wheelchair) but i don't have anything to wear. Trust me, she wanted me to buy something nice. I went to Kohl's nothing that fit or whatever. i didn't want to spend a lot of money on an outfit i won't wear again. I don't really go out, so the outfit would be a waste of MY money since i hopefully shouldn't be able to wear that size again. it seems my mother has always been ashamed of me and my weight. …

Hey everyone!! My name is Sarah, I'm 20, and I was sleeved 11 days ago on the 26th of August. I'm really happy that I was able to do this young. My support group at the hospital is all people who are like 50 plus. Which doesn't really bother me, but it is very hard to relate to someone who has 30+ years on you, regardless of the experience you share. I am happy to know I'm not the only one who had this done in my 20's!!! I was just wondering, since we are younger, and for those of you who are further out, how bad is the extra skin once you've lost most or all of your weight? That is one of my biggest fears after weight loss, is having a ton of extra skin. Well let me …
