I'd welcome opinions! I am 364 days sleeved today (surgi-versary tomorrow yay!), I am 5'8 and had initially set my 'realistic' goal as 189lb, as I was that on my wedding day, and at 235lbs could not imagine why I'd originally been unhappy at 189! I did however set an aspirational 'dream' goal of 154lb, which I last weighed age 11 (obviously at 235 I NEVER thought I'd get there. So in due course 189 came, and went, and on 23rd December I got to 154! Goal - I danced, I cried, I facebooked, I texted friends, I bought a scandalous mini dress, and then I cried a bit more. I mean, seriously goal? Me? Wow. It was great, but I recognise that what I thought was going to be t…

Hello, fellow December Sleevers. So all of us are sleeved. and we're all in various stages of recovery. For this week how about a couple of questions -- What has been the hardest part so far? What has been the best part so far? How is recovery going?

Here is an article I saw on MSN this morning. Doesn't surprise me. It would be interesting if some university would do a study of formerly obese WLS patients to see what our CD36 gene profiles were. I am going to see if I can find the entire study and read it. Sharon Your Taste for Fat May Reside in Your Genes Individual sensitivity might influence what and how much you eat, small study suggests -- Robert Preidt MONDAY, Jan. 16 (HealthDay News) -- Variations in a certain gene can make people more or less sensitive to the taste of fat and affect their risk for obesity, researchers report. The team at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. L…

So I found out about a month ago that I'm going to need surgical correction for my band that slips with any sort of fill. I don't want a reposition of the band, I think I want to go for a sleeve. When I was banded, I had 100 lbs to lose. I lost 90 of them with the band, and have gained back about 20-25 with this slip business. Anyway, I find myself incredibly sad about this whole process. As in, I was doing fine with the band, had a bit if reflux, but was managing it ok. This need for surgical correction basically came out of the blue, and now I'm trying to wrap my head around all of this. I feel like I'm mourning myself. Mourning the person that I was for an oh…

I'm so excited! I thought this day will never come. I have to get my pre-op labs on Monday the 16th and will be ready for my surgery on the 24th. For the first time I am certain that my new years resolution will finally resolve this year. Yeah!

I am worried and would like to calm myself down. I understand that my question may be to private but I really need to be able to relate to some one. So here it goes. I have chose to have this surgery because of my diabetes and the health problems that come with it. It has taken me a year to get my doctors to approve me for surgery. While I was looking for the clearence I was geting more problems and now that my surgery is a go I am worried about my out come. Who else out there have many problems before sugery. My list is as follows: I am diabetic on a insulin pump I had 4 TIAs that I know of and a stroke that I did not know I had until my MRI I also have a narrowing …

I am asking this question because I am concerned about my SIL. She had Lap Band surgery a few years ago and has done well with her weight loss. The problem is that she told me over Thanksgiving that she sometimes goes as long as 6 days without being able to eat anything because something will get "stuck" and she just can't take in any food only liquids. She also vomits on a daily basis... so much that the enamel on her teeth is being to erode. She refers to her Lap Band as a medically induced eating disorder. She has some bad habits... too much alcohol and smoking. I am quite concerned about her. I encouraged her to go back to her surgeon because I don't believe it …

The doctor unfilled my band to get me ready for surgery. I guess to give my stomach a break. I've gained 6 lbs in about a week and half. I still have about 3 weeks to surgery! I wish they'd give you diet pills to help until surgery. Any suggestions?

I was told that several people have to have their gall bladder removed after sleeve surgery. I am only 2 weeks post-op but wonder if there is a way to prevent this. Has anyone had to have the surgery? How long after your surgery? Do you know what caused the gall bladder to fail?

I hope this is the right place for this question. Does the hipaa law apply to members of the church? I'm in CA if that makes any difference. I'm wondering because there is this retreat my mom's church does every year that I enjoy going to. BUT I want to pay the kids price since I eat so little now. What you get for the cost of the retreat is the same no matter what age you are, I've gone a bunch of times pre-op. I'm wondering this because I don't trust the clergy members to not let slip that I've had surgery. Especially with how gossipy this specific church is. I'm pretty private about the fact that I've had surgery, and I have family issues, so it would be very bad…

Hey Everyone- It is hard for me to talk about this but I need to know if anyone else has experienced this.....I assumed losing weight would increase my self esteem and then in turn increase my sex drive. I have found quite the opposite....I have lost quite a bit of interest in realtionships all together and sex is the furthest thing from my mind. I know I am suffering some post-op depression....but has anyone else experienced this?

I only seen two people that had there's done via the navel. Who has done it that way? If not how many incisions do you have. Does the doctor in advance tell you he's going through the navel/open/laproscopically?

OK, so I have 30.6 to lose, well thats close enough. I am at 5 months, and tomorrow is my 58th Bday. I can eat almost anything, and tonight at my Bday party with my folks, I think I did! I went to a salad bar, and ate up, then my folks brought a chocolate cake, and I had part of a small piece, then ate some more when I got home. I was feeling pretty cheaty...and decided to man up and write everything down and keep accountable even if I was going hog wild. 1178 cals. You know, I think I can live with that kind of hog wild once in a while. I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!! My Protein was only at 60 and my carbs were high (like 110!) but tomorrow is another day, and I will take the left…

Hi. I have been researching WLS for some time now. I originally wanted the RNY, but have been considering the sleeve more, due to everything internally is left the same, just the removal of a LARGE part of the stomach, which is something I am still wrapping my head around. Anywho, I have been considering the band, Rny, sleeve, and recently DS, but narrowed it down mainly to the sleeve and bypass. Can anyone provide me with a link that compares the two (bypass, and sleeve) with as much information as possible. Also can someone tell me what are all the negatve side effects. I know that with the rny there is the dumping, more chance of hypoglycemia, etc. I read that dumping …

So I did not believe that I was losing anything during this stall. Today however I decided I needed some new jeans as mine were literally falling off. I went to a store and grabbed a pair of 16s. Which I could not get into at all for years. (I was a 18/20) needless to I did not buy that pair because they were $30 and I have a rule about pants. That they have to be around $20. Then my husband convinced me to go to old navy because they were having a sale. I tried on more pants and found 2 pairs for $18 each (Size 16!) and a shirt. Which by the way I got a large to fit!!! It was a dressy top too! I ended up buying a top for $8 that was an XL!! Before it's was a really stret…

I had my surgery on Dec 11, 2012 and thus far I have lost 30 pounds. I just arrived in Chicago and it is my very first time here. I came to enjoy the city a little and also to attend a conference at which Dr F Garcia who is doing my surgery in Tijuana is speaking tomorrow. I never thought I would see him again and just wanted to come and see him to thank him in person for giving me "My New Life". I am just wondering what might be the best place for me to eat while I am here and what I should eat. I can not believe that I am in Chicago with all of the fantastic venues and I can not eat much. On the way here I stopped at a Subway and just got the meat, cheese and some ligh…

I posted a few weeks ago that I was having some stomach issues. I had posted that I can't poop, and that I was having a pulling pain in my stomach. Well, this week, I have been to 5 different doctors, including my surgeon, primary care doctor, emergency room twice, and the gastro doctor. I finally got some answers and feel much better, but here's what they think went wrong... Okay, here's the whole story. In December I went on a cruise to the Bahamas. I'm one of those sleevers that have a very temperamental stomach. I can't digest a lot of foods, so I have to be pretty picky when it comes to what I eat. On the cruise, I ate Protein bars, cheese, baked chicken (wh…

Hey everyone!! Check in with your weight lost so far, or even some non-scale victories (NSVs) you'd like to share! I'm down a total of 56lbs, and my biggest NSV is that I was able to avoid the post-Thanksgiving food coma, by sampling a little of everything and not stuffing myself. I didn't even eat any of the Desserts, and that was a big deal to me

Well I had my first bout with what I will call "head hunger". Of course this occured when the forum was down and I needed some help. I was sitting watching tv and could not get the forum to come up so I guess I was a little bored. I was watching tv and it seemed that every commercial that came on was for food. I think this triggered something in me that said "EAT". It got to the point that I just knew that I had to get up and get something to eat. Well I did get up and eat but then my stomach told me that I was full but my head said that I should eat more. I guess I did eat a little more than I usually eat but then it was not a total bust as what I ate was Protein. At lea…

Has anyone else heard about this Seminar in Northwest Indiana and Chicago in January? A girl on the forum mentioned it but I cannot find the post. She mentioned the Courtyard in Merrillville, IN on Friday evening and the Marriot Midway in Chicago on Saturday afternoon but I cannot remember anything like the times. She said she was going because they were giving you $200 cash towards your airfare and giving you a change to meet the person that would do your surgery. I am looking all over for this. Does anyone have any info? I know I want to go, I need a revision.

I'm not eating very many calories per day b/c I'm not hungry most of the time. I am trying to get in my 60 grams of protein by drinking these shakes that have 30 grams per shake . each shake is 160 calories. If I drink 2 per day that is still only a bit over 300 calories. In addition to that, I usually eat maybe 1 or 2 pieces of very thinly sliced deli ham and a piece of thin deli sliced cheese which may throw in another 200 calories. I was told I need to eat way more and that this may be the reason I'm losing slowly. But I don't want to force myself to eat when I'm not hungry.Advice?

So, a couple of days ago I got an offer in the mail from Omaha Steak Company- looks pretty interesting. The potatoes and scallops are something I will likely give to someone else or maybe just keep a small amount for myself, but trying to stay away from the carbs. They are offering the following items for $59.99 plus $17.99 shipping. Talk about lots of protein!!! Enough food for weeks of meals for one person (with a sleeve of course- LOL)!!! * 4 (5 oz) Filet Mignons * 4 (5 oz) Top Sirloins * 4 (4 oz) Boneless Pork Chops * 2 (4 1/2 oz) stuffed Sole with Scallops and Crabmeat * 4 (4 oz) Omaha Steak Burgers * 4 (3 oz) Gourmet Franks * 8 Potatoes au Gratin…

I used to have lots and lots of dandruff for 4-5 years, and nothing helped. I used to wash my hair and 30 mins later, when I combed it, I could see the little white pieces of dead skin falling off it already. 6 weeks post-op and it's 100% solved, no more dandruff. I've no idea what was cause, and I'm not sure if it's PCOs-related and whether the change of food following the surgery helped, but I'm quite thankful. (Still waiting for regular menses and less facial/neck hair, doesn't look like either will happen any time soon).

Okay, so I'm sure this is TMI. I'm almost a year out, and recently, like in the last month, I've started having some stomach issues. First, I can't poop. I started using Benefibre because I thought that I wasnt' getting enough Fiber or maybe it was the Iron pills. That stuff just makes me bloated and gassy. So, I stopped taking the iron pills. Still can't poop. So, now it's like I can't go unless I take a laxative. I don't know why. Just all of a sudden I can't go to the bathroom. My other problem is I think I've developed a hernia. I blame crunches! I notice when I clinch my stomach, it feels like something in my navel moves up into my stomach. I don't se…

I am 3 weeks post-op and have lost 25lbs but am wondering if I'm going to be able to lose much more weight due to the Hypothyroidism. Any body else have experience with this or know information that can give me hope?
