New to the site and after years of disordered eating want to get some control back. 1. Dr. Zavalza - is who I am planning to go with. Anyone with personal experience? 2. Depression and it's effects post surgery? 3. Binge eating - post surgery? I am hoping it's a positive effect. 4. Biggest struggle post surgery. Thanks in advance.

Had my surgery March 23 and now I absolutely hate my life. I wish I canceled the whole thing even 4 hrs before I was supposed to fly out. All I think about is suicide now and that now life is pointless. I see my doctor Wednesday, but seeing so many be happy about the choice seems to make me even more angry at myself because I was never that big to begin with ..but my mental issues told me otherwise. I can't be the only person who had gastric sleeve to feel this way... so very alone.

I start my options classes next month and was wondering about a good surgeon, I live in Bakersfield but would like to get my surgery done in West LA, I'm just a little concern about my regular doctor's comments about if I don't lose the weight I don't get the surgery and I'm just above qualifying BMI with sleep apnea. So I have questions about which doctor isn't as strict about losing the weight before the visiting the surgeon. I'm also doing all the classes online, how does that work about weighing me? Thank you :)

I had VSG in February and haven't really lost that much weight. I started at 192 the day of surgery, and am at 172 today. I have been 172 for 3 weeks now and have not seen any change I wonder if I'm not getting enough calories. I only eat about 1000 calories a day. I struggle to get my fluids in as well.

Hello All, So, I had my gastric sleeve done about ten days ago. Had a lot of pain in the day or so afterwards, but that dissipated fairly quickly. However, with the physical pain reduction has come something that's also painful. Food cravings. Food cravings more intense than any I've ever experienced in my entire life. Multiple times a day, and my mouth literally waters. I haven't been eating stuff besides protein shakes, broth, and sugar-free Jell-O for obvious reasons, but there's no question that I would be if I could. This isn't just "in my head" either. My stomach is definitely involved as well. I can feel it empty (although certainly not as empty as 500 calori…

So I had a stall. An eight-week-long stall. And I'm pretty close to my goal weight, so I figured maybe this was it... they say N% of your excess body weight, and I'm way past that N%, so this must be it, right? I know it seems early (seven months out), but maybe my body's reached its new set point. Yay, no more meds, yay, normal sized clothing from the middle of the size range, not the top end and oh please God let it fit. So I bought a bunch of new clothes. I've been wearing hand-me-downs and Goodwill thrifting specials for months now, and I wanted some new clothes. I had some belts made, too. Finally I can start to look like an adult! Ha. Ha ha ha ha ha. My bo…

I meant to make a post for six months, but then life happened. So here I am exactly seven months out from surgery. Current weight: 268. Down 128 lbs. from my measured high, down 98 lbs. since intake, down 89 lbs. since surgery. 17 pounds to goal. It's gotten a lot slower, and I expected it to. I hit a major stall for more than a month right around the six-month mark. I'd lose a pound, and then I'd retain water or work out hard and cause inflammation, and those gains would be erased. My week-over-week average did drop, but by fractions of a pound. Then this week—whooooooosh, I lost five pounds in two days which just means my body cleared out the water, the ?, and…

I have noticed lots of people coming to the forums in distress because they regret having the surgery, I too was one of them. I wanted to share some of my own experience to reassure those going through regret that for some of us this is completely normal and part of the journey. Its awful, you feel like crap and wonder what the hell you have done to yourself and for some we wonder if we will even survive this life changing decision we made. You may feel like you have ruined your life, you may feel like you will never eat or drink your favourite things again. You may think you will die of thirst or even starve to death, I am here to say you will get through it, you wi…

Can anyone walk me through their day of surgery? What all took place before and after the surgery (sleeve)? I was told by a nurse when I had my EGD done that they require 2 IVs (one in each arm) and she asked if I was aware of that and I said no. Her reply was they really should let people know this stuff so they arent surprised by it all. So just wondering if there are any other things that transpire that maybe was not disclosed ahead of time?

I originally joined BariatricPal in 2009 while researching Lap-Band. I never followed through with that procedure. I've struggled with my weight since then. I did lose 120lbs by diet in 2016/17, but have since regained it then some following an unexpected pregnancy. I finally had enough when I saw the highest weight I've ever seen staring back at me once we installed a new scale in my office. I waited to tell my mom that I was going to Mexico to have surgery because in the past she's been negative about traveling for the procedure. She surprised me though when she not only was happy for me but decided to have it done herself as well. We will be traveling to Piedras Ne…

So I'm hoping to hear from anyone with a high BMI that got the sleeve and had a lot of success. My current BMI is 63. My goal weight is 200 pounds, which means I need to lose 190 pounds. For various reasons I chose the sleeve over the bypass, and I know bypass patients lose more than sleeve patients do. BUT...I have no issues following the diet, and once I lose some weight I will start working out again (I did keto and lost almost 100 pounds over 7 months, but then it just started creeping back up and no matter how much I restricted my carbs and worked out, I couldn't keep the weight down and I got frustrated and quit), but I worry that I won't be able to hit my goal eve…

Posting in a few places in hopes of getting more responses. I have MS and I'm set for surgery on May 3rd. My neuro cleared me, but I only just found out that wls can actually aggravate MS and bring on a flare. I had no clue. Now I'm really nervous about the surgery. I wasn't until I read the articles online this morning. I was hoping that having the sleeve would present far less issues with taking my pills (I'm on Tecfidera, Baclofen, Celebrex, and Gabapentin) but then I read about people who had a harder time with the nausea and keeping anythng down and struggling with their pills. I think I'm in a bit of a panic now. Hoping there's others on here with MS and wls t…

To those of you who have had your sleeve for a while, how much hair have you lost? Is it sudden or gradual? Is it in clumps or shedding? Did you find biotin helped? Do you have any special shampoos or hair masks or supplements you use to help slow down the hair loss and/or speed up regrowth? I have PCOS, so I'm used to hair shedding (many women end up with very thin-to-balding hair with it. I have had moderate shedding but my hair is thick enough that you can't really tell). My surgery day is May 3rd and I'm just trying to prepare myself. ALSO, did anyone notice any drying of their skin? If so, what do/did you use to help with that? How long did it last? Is it really bad,…

Hello, Before I begin if you are male you can exit the post. Soooooo ladies I was sleeved 12/16 I began taking low birth control about a month before. Periods have been pretty normal until this month. I've literally been on my cycle for about a month now and my OBGYN doesn't seem concerned saying it's the birth control regulating......what from 5 months ago?!?!? So my aunt brought up that it could be the surgery so has anyone experienced anything like this before???? I'm just a little nervous because I've never experienced this before? [emoji28] sorry this is tmi but someone give me some online insight.... I've been to the Dr already

Sorry, I already posted this in two wrong parts of the forum! Hopefully I'm in the right place here. I had my surgery on Monday 4th April in Manchester, UK. The first 2 days were awful (lots of pain, nausea and vomiting) The 3rd and 4th days were better (threw up for the last time, had some lovely hot showers, pain manageable) The 5th and 6th days have been amazing! (out to cafes and shops, no nausea or pain, even drove for an hour) I am experiencing a brilliant recovery, I think. BUT... I'm worried - only that I can take in much more liquid than I expected. I have just eaten a whole can of strained roast chicken soup with no probl…

Just curious of things you ate or drank before surgery that you cannot stand or stomach now? I hear alot of people say they dislike the Premier protein shakes after surgery but loved them before their surgery? I heard someone say they tried Ratio Protein yogurt from Walmart? Anyone tried this after they were off liquids in order to get the protein goal met? I did try one Key Lime and tasted ok but I found it to be a bit thick lol.

4.5 months after my sleeve and I am officially overweight. It's the best thing I have ever done. I cannot believe the speed with which I have lost all that weight. I know that I want to lose another 40 pounds or so and I can only hope that I do, but honestly if I stopped losing weight in the morning I would be happy with what I have achieved right now. Best of luck to those of you starting out on your journey - it's a wild ride.

At some point I'm going to have gastric bypass and i want learn portion control ( if you will) therefore i want to get ahead of the game , how do i know my portions are either too much or not enough i try to ( eye it ) guess but i know i eat fast and i almost never pay attention to what is on my plate which must be a bd move , is it , even my wife tells me i take huge bites and i don't chew my food enough and a lot of the time i choak i don't know where i am going with this i guess i just want to be prepared for SX so there are no surprises when i sit down to eat and i "think" there's not enough food so i add more to my plater i eat too much and the end result is i get s…

Today marks day 4 of the pre op liquid diet. Its been rough at times but not as bad as i thought. One thing i have learned is the shakes that you have to mix yourself seriously suck. Prefer the ready to drink shakes so i bought those instead. Which have been the Carnation breakfast ones, Boost glucose control (which are delicious), and fairlife which i drink just 1 of those a day. My paperwork says if i do get too hungry that i can have 4 oz of lean meats like chicken or fish. So i have been having Sockeye Salmon once a day (which i eat in place of a shake) One big thing is to keep busy. sitting around all you think about is the hunger. spending lots of time out on the wa…

I just had a king size chocolate bar with nuts. I feel so stupid and I'm really scared. Did I start a slippery slope? It was my first time to eat this much candy/chocolate. But I don't feel physically great about it. I feel like lately I've been in bad shape. I have been eating too fast, and I find it really hard to eat slowly. So I am thinking maybe that has something to do with it. Question for you guys too. How long did your doctors prescribe Nexium/Prilosec? And were any of you prescribed Ursodiol?

I am 8 months post surgery and have hit my ideal weight. But I still can't eat like a normal person. 2 spoons of anything and I feel full. I have to wait another 15 minutes to eat another 2 spoons. I'm losing more weight than expected and I'm worried that I might be underweight soon. I don't wish to eat like I did pre-surgery but I do wish I can eat at least half the portion I used to eat at half the time. A normal portion of food takes me an hour or two to finish. I'm worried that I'll be malnourished and losing a lot of hair because of it. I've seen that some people have gained back some weight after a year into their surgery. I just want to eat like a normal…

Hi! I am 7 days post-op and I’ve been walking around at home. But I haven’t been having protein and I’m up to about 30oz liquids a day. I’ve noticed my left calf feels sore or bruised when I touch it. I’ve been wondering if it’s a blood clot possibility or lack of protein and dehydration. Has anyone experienced this?

Random inflammation every now and then on the middle right side of my stomach. It’s a year since I did the surgery and am consistently losing weight but I always get inflamed randomly. Is there something I should be doing differently to help with the inflammation. I don’t eat much but it’s concerning since it always happens and lasts a couple of hours then goes down. Usually when I wake up and sometimes at night. It feels bruised when I press down on it lightly.

Hello All! I had VSG a month ago, and since then, I have noticed that my pee smells rather fruity. I know this can happen with diabetics, but I'm not diabetic. Maybe it's because my body is in ketosis. I'm not sure what's going on. I guess I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Thank you!

After a forum from yesterday. The worry I had about getting GERD is a lot stronger. The thought of it happening to me scares me. When I do do acid reflux (which is not often ) it does make me sick. This is a out of pocket surgery for me. My insurance doesn't cover wls. So I can't afford this surgery and then have to pay to get bypass if I get GERD. My mood now is so different. I was so happy I made the decision to get the surgery. And after yesterday today I'm scared and sad. I need positive thoughts ❤️
