Hi all, I am still pre op - my date is April 2nd... I have accepted that a period of hair loss is heading my way and that's part of the parcel that comes with the sleeve. That said... is it just hair thinning or do some people have bald patches? Thank you Shelley

Not sure it's the best title, but I couldn't think of how else to phrase it. On Sunday, I had an allergic reaction to a bee sting (I'm a beekeeper) and as I learned, vomiting can be part of the allergic reaction. There was nothing in my stomach, but that didn't seem to stop my stomach from trying to expel itself from my body. It went on for quite a while before it stopped. Now, I find that my stomach is extra sensitive. I can't eat as much as normal and it just doesn't seem happy with anything I put in it. It's nothing extreme, I just can tell nothing is sitting well. I'm not surprised after what it went through on Sunday, but I was wondering if anyone else has had t…

I know y'all are probably tired if seeing my post lol. But I'm struggling at losing weight. It's been 5 weeks since my surgery and I haven't lost anything in 3 weeks. My dr said it's sluggish. I'm going to call my nutritionist but not sure how much help she will be. I'm not cheating at all. I'm completely on the plan. I thought maybe it was my protein. (Not getting enough). But even with getting 60g or more. I still haven't lost. What's going on with me ???. I'm still under 600 calories. Geez how can I not be losing on eating 600 calories or less. I need to get this figured out.

Hello. I was sleeved Dec 28, 2021. I have reached my personal weight goal. I had been eating about 800 calories per day. I talked to my nutritionist on Wednesday and she said go to 1200 calories per day. I will say this is really hard. I didn’t realize how hard it would be. It seems all I do is eat and then I’m trying to get fluids in. It is so uncomfortable. I have never been able to get 64oz. Of fluids. Probably 40oz. My nutritionist is ok with it at this point as it has been such a struggle and hard to get to that point. I weighed myself and down 2 more lbs since Wednesday. I honestly don’t want to lose anymore. Any suggestions and meal plan ideas would be greatly appr…

Greetings! I'm a newbie here. I was approved quickly for gastric sleeve surgery. I have a surgery date of June 22nd. The doc wants me on the liver shrinkage diet for 3 weeks so it's T minus 5 days until I need to start. I would love to find hints, tips, and advice on ways to make it more tolerable. I would also like to find & chat with other RA sufferers who are utilizing VSG in hopes of remission, like myself. Thank you!

I was told by my bariatric nurse to book in for my B12 injection as I am three months post op, so booked in at my GP surgery today with the instruction to have one every 6 months. Get to my GP surgery today and they think I should be having injections every other day for two weeks - both sides are holding firm on their stances. Just wondered what everyone else's experience was?

My surgery was May 18th. My first week was ROUGH to say the least. The gas pains, constipation from the pain drugs and dehydration made it hard to recover! I walked about 1/2 mile a day, but didn't get any relief until I stopped the Hydrocodone and relied on chewable Tylenol - the liquid burned the new tummy. I ended up having a couple of days of laxatives and gas-x along with the Tylenol-Worked like a charm. During the second week, It took forever for the stomach cramps to go away - especially the ones that hurt as soon as liquid hit my tummy. Figured out that hot/warm water was the best way to go. That helped get me hydrated, at least. The protein shakes I had were …

Well, as the title says I'm about 21 months out and now starting to gain. I got down to 143 (my goal was 130, but I was comfortable in the 140s). I'm now back up to 155. Over the past year, I've also developed a bruising issue and have multiple bruises on my arms and legs, mostly on the left side; random but moderate/severe aches & pains; brain fog; severe fatigue, and other idiopathic symptoms. I have a physical scheduled for mid-June, but I'm wondering if any of these things are common after surgery. As for my weight gain, nothing has really changed. I still eat very clean, limit myself to two low-sugar/low-calorie alcoholic beverages a week, and really try to take …

I'm posting this here for traffic in the hope that some of you can advise and/or reassure me. I had my VSG on the 4th April (around 6 weeks ago) I am very worried that I am eating too easily so early out. Especially as I keep reading posts about people who can barely eat a postage-stamp sized piece of ham. An example day this week was: Breakfast - 1 x protein yoghurt pot (100 calories) Snack - 2 hard-boiled eggs (120 calories) Lunch - 100g / 4oz of pork sausages and vegetables (250 calories) Snack - 50g / 1oz of chicken pieces (150 calories) Dinner - 130g / 4.5oz of salmon fillet and creamed spinach (200 calories) TOT…

I am in the 3rd week puree phase and from the binder I was provided I am supposed to be in this phase for two weeks, then move on to the soft food phase. Is this how everyone else's phases were ? Every time I drink water or protein shake my stomach makes noises and it's like my stomach flips, so I can only drink small amounts then my chest hurts like I drank too much or something. I am very behind on liquids. I am only drinking 1 bottle of water and 1 bottle of protein shake sometimes that's even hard. I sometimes squeeze in a broth or Jello. Yesterday a cottage cheese but it made me feel nauseous. Does anyone else experience these stomach flips or noises ?? I …

Did you throw out your big clothes as motivation to never return to your pre-weight, or did you keep your old clothes 'in case' you regained your weight? I am tempted to throw away my clothes as I (hopefully) lose weight post-procedure but I am worried I'll need them again in the future. What are your thoughts?!

I was sleeved 04/21, today is my 1 month post op and I’ve only lost 16lbs. I know, I know, everyone is different but it is super discouraging to see others losing so quickly and I’m just here struggling. I struggle to get my protein in, I hate the taste and have tried several different kinds, even the “unflavored” kind is awful. I have severe smell and taste aversion post surgery and have been on purées for a week now and can’t seem to feel normal again. I have no desire to eat, and drinking water makes me pretty nauseous. I walk 2-3 miles every day… Did anyone have these issues? How did you overcome this? Also, every time I eat or drink something other than water, my hea…

Not trying to sound dramatic or anything but I've been on this forum since 2016 and I've been fantasizing about having this surgery for the past decade and I always knew in my mind that the day I do it will be one of the happiest days in my life especially from watching all those YT videos of people speaking about their positive life changes after the surgery and all... now I know that that there are truly positive and beneficial changes which will come from the surgery especially when it comes to health and life expectancy apart from the visual aspect of it and I know that in a few months once I start seeing the difference and losing weight I will feel differently too BU…

Hello to all. I am new here… Any advice / suggestions would be great! My surgery is in 3 days and I cheated TWICE on my 7 day liquid diet ? I started my diet on Nov 30th. I cheated with a fast food meal on Dec 1st, got back on track - but then cheated again today with another fast food meal. I told the nurse about the first meal and she said it was okay I had a slip up. But I didn’t get to tell her about the second meal as the office is closed now. I know I can do this - I’ve just been under extra stress lately. My question is - If I strictly stick to it for the next 3 days, should I be okay? Has anyone else gone through this?

I was scheduled for Feb 2, everything was on track… but then I got covid the beginning of January so I was feeling rather rough. I got a call last week from my surgeons office, they needed to reschedule my pre-surgery consult due to the surgeon having to shuffle his surgery schedule - originally scheduled for this week (no big deal). When talking to his office scheduler I mentioned I needed an end of day appointment - I understood that may push me out a bit but my husband wanted to come and as he had just been in quarantine he wouldn’t be able to take off for a day time appointment right away. Our original appointment was at 4, we were asking for an appt after 3:15 if…

so today i had to get dressed up for a job interview, getting really bored just sitting around the house all day so i figured i would get a part time job to keep me busy and the only nice clothes i have are some i bought in late March for a funeral. At that time the pants did not fit. I could not close the top button so i used a belt to keep it closed. Today i wore it for the interview and they were too large and even using the belt at the last notch they were not secure and the shirt i wore was one that was too small in late march fit me perfectly today Gotta say i love that. LMAO.

Anyone else have boundless energy after surgery? I’m a little under a week out and my energy levels are through the roof. I haven’t felt this energized in nearly five years. I have had very little pain or soreness since getting home from the hospital. I feel kind of weird, like maybe my surgeon is a wizard or something?

Hello Everyone, I am new here and just had my sleeve surgery on May 11. So far everything is going well, however mourning a little the social aspect of eating with family and friends, being able to grab coffee from a local coffee shop, etc. I was wondering at what point could you eat a ‘normal’ meal again, of course smaller portions. What is dinner with family like 3 months, 6 months, 1 year post surgery. Do you eat what they eat but smaller with focus on protein? What is eating out socially like? I have heard many veteran sleevers say they can eat everything but now with greater portion control. Is this true? At times i feel there is mixed message…

Anyone cheated on the pre op and everything was still ok for the go ahead of surgery? I got told I need to do a 3 week pre op diet , eat anything I want aslong as it’s within 800-900 calories. First 4 days went great but slipped up last night and cheated. still got 2 weeks and 2 days until my gastric sleeve surgery, do you think this will effect anything? Or if I stick to it 100% from now I should be okay? I know I shouldn’t of cheated but I’m only human

Hi guys! I‘m sorry if this is offensive or if this has been discussed many times before on here (I couldn‘t find any threads) but I feel like I’m going crazy and I need to talk about it. I‘m aprox. 7 months post op lost aprox. 120lbs and I‘m nearing the „goal weight“ I had 6 years ago. Logically I should be feeling amazing and I somewhat do. Like I‘m physically able to do a lot more again, which I‘m very appreciative of but somehow I feel fat. It‘s so odd. 120lbs ago I knew I was fat and I wasn‘t able to do certain things but I never felt fat. I felt fine. Now I have a „slightly overweight“ bmi and I feel super fat. Whats going on?!? I didnt do this surgery beca…

Tell me the one thing that made the sleeve work for you that dieting never could. Was it the structure, the physical inability to overeat, the decrease in hunger from hormone changes or something else? This is just a positive inspirational post to spark conversation. I would love to hear your sleeve success story and how it changed your life style.

Hello all, I'm looking for a memoir or fiction to read that will inspire me as I go through this journey. Do you know of any good memoirs, biographies, or novels about weight loss, WLS, or overweight characters overcoming adversity? Here are a couple of suggestions from me: Weightless: My Life as a Fat Man and How I Escaped by Gregg McBride. This is a memoir. Gregg lost over 100 pounds without WLS. I found his story inspiring. He also underwent extensive post weight loss plastic surgery. A lot of it all at one time (ouch). Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. This is young adult fiction about a quirky overweight teenage girl in the 80s finding a boyfriend and overc…

Hi everyone, this is my first post, I'm a 50 year old mother of two from Canada. I was just about to pick my June surgery date when it struck me, what will happen when I'm really old and can't really manage eating/drinking every 30 minutes? Now I'm a bit scared. I have already noticed that I'm not as good at organizing and planning things as I used to be when I'm younger. Is it true for post-surgery, you basically need to either be drinking or eating every half hour or so to get in all your protein and water? Is this just in the first few years? I can't imagine when I'm in a home or over 80 (god willing!), that I or my care provider will be able to manage that type of sc…

How many post sleeve or bypass have the dreaded loose skin? Did you get it removed? Im sure its added weight still there and I imagine it could be a few pounds lost if removed. Im almost anticipating it to be bad for me. Im not sure if my insurance would pay or not. Pretty sure its considered cosmetic. I may pay out of pocket just to finally rid myself of it. Good thing is my Dr who does the sleeve also removes excess skin from weight loss but you have to maintain weight for 1 year before its even considered.

Tomorrow is the day for my VSG surgery! I’ll be staying overnight in the hospital. I haven’t had any surgeries that weren’t on an emergency basis so are there things i should expect? Any tips to get through the jitters? I’m excited to get to this point but just having those last minute jitters. I’ve kept busy today by cleaning the house and getting the couch set up with a sleeping wedge for when i get home and have stocked up on protein shakes, protein water and some yogurt and cottage cheese since my surgeon goes right to the puréed stage once I’m home.

So I am aware that sugars and high carbs can cause dumping syndrome but what things cause anyone issues? For instance on a whim last night I tried about 6 small bites of mashed potatoes and some carrots. I do not believe the carrots were the issue but I suspect it was the mash potatoes. They werent thick but when I ate them I felt like I took a punch to the gut so I stopped eating them. I am 2 weeks post op. Maybe it was too soon for mash potatoes?? I did try scrambled eggs today with shredded cheddar cheese and I didnt have a problem with them I only had 1 egg. Interested to see what foods cause ppl problems and what they felt like when they had a bad reaction …

Hi y'all! I'm 3 weeks post op and feeling great! I'm still learning and mastering how to properly eat during my soft foods stage. Currently -- I can't help but wonder: Down the road -- does it still take, or should it still take, 20+ minutes to eat your food? Also, do you not eat and drink at the same time? Sometimes when I am eating my food I feel like I need to take a small sip of water to just help me to get my food down. Prior to surgery, I've always drank my drinks before my meals and during my meals, and I would run through several cups of liquids during a meal...so it's a big adjustment for me to not drink and eat at the same time. I'm trying my har…

Hi Everyone, I had my sleeve procedure in December and everything has been going well, except for the gout flare up. Since week 2 post op I have been experiencing an on-going gout flare up on my toe which is just about preventing me from walking. After googling, I know its a known possibility and should go away slowly, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Any remedies, drinks, or pills you've found to help? Timeframe yall's lasted before subsiding? Normal uric acid levels are 7 or below, mine is sitting at 13, so any help or advise is appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone!
