Today I’m starting my first day of week 3 post op (2nd week of purées). I had hoped by today I would have achieved one of my specific mini goals. I was hoping to end the month under 300 lbs. Seeing that “2” in front of my weight for the first time in nearly 20 yrs. was something have have dreamed about but always fell short of since crossing that 300 point. The closest I got to that on my own was 309. Started out strong loosing about 23 lbs my first week, only to hit a big stall during my second week. I’m having surgery on the 8th. Gastric sleeve and hernia repair. I’m terrified! I was approved for the lap band many moons ago and chickened out the night before. Here we are again and I’m going to need some positive reinforcement in order to go through with it, which sucks because I want this surgery so badly. Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone can help me out. I am 11 days post vsg. I need to start taking my multivitamin ASAP but its a capsule. Opening the capsule and taking it with clear liquids was a fail. Does anyone take their multivitamin capsule as is?

Tomorrow morning is the big day. I'm so nervous now. I've been emotional today and almost 2nd guessing my decision. Anyone else feel this way before surgery?

I've heard that VSG can cause heartburn and GERD. I used to have severe GERD, painful esophogeal spasms, and an esophogeal stricture before I had a Nissen Fundoplication (hiatal hernia repair). I'm afraid those problems will return after surgery. The Nissen Fundoplication has to be undone and the surgeon will repair the hiatal hernia in another way. My surgeon assures me that if he repairs the hiatal hernia, I'll be unlikely to have acid reflux. Does anyone have experience with having a hiatal hernia repaired while undergoing a sleeve gastrectomy? Has it worked for you? Have you experienced much acid reflux and heartburn?

Hello everyone! I am 20 months post VSG and for the most part I would say its been successful! I was able to donate a kidney to my daughter in January and she is doing GREAT! My hubby is 3 months post VSG and absolutely killing it! I am very happy for the most part. I have changed my goal weight a couple times and really wanted to get at a 125 or 130 but my body is just holding on to the last 10 pounds! I have tried all the tricks to get things rolling, upping my calories a tad, more exercise, less exercise and even did a three day protein shake restriction just to see if that would bump me out of this. I know this isn’t a new topic but I’m in a lot of distress about this. I woke up from surgery on July 28, 2022 literally with my stomach growling. I started out weighing 203lbs, had taken the online classes a year prior and gotten a call from the surgeon on a Monday asking me if I’d like to have surgery that Thursday. He had an opening. I was not prepared at all but decided to do it. I wonder if not having done the liquid diet ahead of time contributed to my hunger? Regardless, I eat about 500 calories a day and small meals every 3 hours or so to kill the constant hunger I do take the PPi and even Prilosec as recommended on here. Does the hunger go away? Hello, I'm 6 days post-op from the sleeve and outside of terrible pain from my big incision. Normal, from what I've read. Anyway, I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has watched people in our lives go through the dark side of WLS with unfortunate life changing experiences like transfer addiction. Seeing this happen to someone close to me really discouraged me for a long time from taking the leap. Hello community, I just had surgery on the 16th of August. I feel like everyday I have a concern about something related to my surgery. If I am doing too much around the house, I start thinking I am not healing properly. If my incisions are okay. They have gotten itchy and my doctor said that I am allergic to the glue. What do people feel if they have a gastric leak? If I am walking enough? If my legs hurt...I can go on and on and it's very disturbing. Am I normal, it has been just 8 days.

Hello all, I am new to this forum but I think it is great to have something like this where we can communicate and get advice from one another! I had my VSG surgery on April 4th, 2022. So that means as of today I am 16 days post op. So far things are going alright. I am a little worried about my 2 incisions on my left side since the liquid bandage has come off and they are still open. They crust over, but any movement or showering makes them open back up. I think they are slowly healing(one of the incisions is the one where they pulled my stomach through), went to the doctor today and he said they were fine. But of course when I returned home the scabs had come …

I cannot lose weight which I'm told is likely because I have PCOS. I don't mean I can't stay on a diet, I mean I can eat very small amounts of food and not lose weight. Supposedly surgery will change hormones enough to allow weight loss, but I'm terrified that I will have surgery, eat next to nothing but still not lose weight.

I’m 5’6 and 220lbs! Female, 30 years old. Surgery is Aug 29th and I’m SOOOO excited but so nervous that I won’t lose weight because nothing has worked for me in the past. Hello everyone, I’m scheduled for the sleeve on December 10th. Two of my family members had the sleeve done and they both complain of developing acid reflux after getting the sleeve and they both said they never had problems with the sleeve before. I was told that if I never had issues with acid reflux I would be okay but now I’m concerned that I will have this issue as well. Any thoughts? Has anyone had the sleeve done and developed reflux issues? Has anyone been told they wouldn’t develop reflux after getting the sleeve if they haven’t had it before?

Hi all! I'm having my VSG surgery the first week of September 2017 at UCLA. I had my Pre-Op appointment and actually gained 3 lbs and my doctor asked me to do a liquid diet to shrink liver and lower my risk of complications or a difficult surgery. I would love to meet other sleevers in Los Angeles and have some local support, especially if you are on a similar timeline. I'm really worried I won't be able to stick to the liquid diet...it's giving me juice-fast flashbacks (I've done every diet there is). Please feel free to comment here or PM me!

I had my band removed in 2011 and soon I'll have surgery for the gastric sleeve. I had my pre-op appointment with my surgeon on Friday and he mentioned something I didn't know or realize - that my surgery will take more time because I've had a band, due to scar tissue. And because of that, I have a higher risk of developing a leak near the top of my stomach where the staple line will start. He said that when band surgery is performed, they sew part of the stomach over the band (pars flaccida technique?) but when it's removed, it's not 'undone'. And that area has scar tissue? Or maybe it's the band itself that causes the scar tissue but he also has to undo that area s…

I am about 3 and a half years post-op and have gained about 30 pounds back. I can't get mentally disciplined back to where I was. Nothing works. I can't seem to get off the weight. Has anyone tried WW? I need a solution that is not eating 800 calories, because I obviously can't get back to doing that. Thanks!

I am a little more than a year out from my gastric sleeve an initially lost around 75 lbs. I recently started back on my antidepressant and seem to crave carbs. I have put back on about 20 lbs and really need to get my snacking under control. In the past being on antidepressants was a major cause of my weight gain and I am trying to tame the carb monster since I started back on the meds. Any suggestions besides getting back to religiously tracking calories. I still work out about 4 days a week. I think focusing on my protein intake may help with the carb cravings but I thought I would see if others have any recommendations.

I have been trying to find the answer to this and some help would be appreciated lol I am almost 6 weeks post op and I'm afraid to drink or try news things as I am afraid of getting this infamous "Dumping Syndrome" how long after having the gastric sleeve are you at risk of having this? When can I drink juice, coffee with creamer, etc without the fear of getting this ? (I don't care about the calories or lack of nutritional value in these foods, I am going to do what I am going to do lol )

Having been here a few months now, it’s become obvious that it’s so different for people having weight loss surgery in the UK. Procedures here before WLS is different. Most of the people over the pond have it through their insurance and this means a lot of pre operation meetings/assessments/work, over many months. In some ways I feel this is good, as people get to learn so much before having their surgery. However that’s not the usual way here in the UK. You tend to learn ‘in the moment’. If you are eligible for WLS through the National Health Service, you may have to wait for a long time, 2 to 3 or up to 10 years unless you are at the stage where your weight is li…

I keep losing around 1lb a month. I am 5'9. My BMI is 28, so I'm still classified as overweight. Hi! I am 2.5 weeks post VSG. I’m in puréed stage and following everything to a T - HOWEVER, I ate an ounce of hummus that had poppy seeds in it before I realized OMG these are seeds! I told my Dr who told me to watch for fevers etc. But I’m wondering if anyone has done this or similar.

So my program is against chewing gum? Even sugar free gum??!! I have not asked why because when I was in the office for my 3 month follow up it was mentioned and I really didnt think anything about it as I am not a chewing gum type of person only on occasion and if I do chew gum its usually sugar free. I'm at a sort of midway point after the 168 pounds weight loss and still have more to go. I'm at a point were i'm making my way back into society starting a new job, I feel human again. I can do so much more than i ever use to be able to do. Just to feel the wind on my face and the grass under my feet. Being able to stand on my feet for hours at a time without the need to sit down or feel the burning sensation under my feet. I feel in a sense "normal". Hi. I've been suffering from pcos since teenage, having all the symptoms like weight gain, facial hair, irregular periods etc.. I have had my gastric sleeve in november 2020 and lost 25 kg in total. I have seen improvement with my pcos symptoms, for example getting a regular period cycle, less facial hair and obviously weight loss. Now, almost after 2 years my period cycle is getting irregular again. Increasing 2-4 days every month. For example, 30 days cycle in June, 34 days in July and 36 days plus (still missing) in August, and I'm definitely bot pregnant. Has anyone else had the same problem? So I'm at a restuarant just drove to another county got an airbnb and now at Lunch, now what? Everyone is hungry ready to eat. Our drive consisted of bickering and upset feelings mostly led by me. I am very sad, I can't drink anything without feeling pain. I miss eating a full meal with my family. I don't want to hear I will be better for it, I don't want to hear I'll be happy in the end!!! Has anyone else been given a script for injections of blood thinners for blood clots? Just had my 2 week appointment before my surgery and she said I need to give myself injections to help reduce the risks for blood clots postop and I am freaked out. I hate needles and now I have to stick myself for a month. My daughter already said no way in hell is she doing it for me.(she has a needle phobia too)

I have had my cholesterol checked, Blood count checked, Even checked for tumor markers. Some of us are self pay and or dont have insurance. Hey Y'all! Brand new to Bariatric Pal, and three days post op! I am already down 30.3 pounds since starting the pre op diet, which is super encouraging! Yesterday was probably the hardest pain wise after waking up in terrible pain, on top of acid reflux from hell! Thankfully, got on some antacids prescribed by doctor, and the pain meds helped with the pain immensely! Most of my pain isn't actually from my stomach, but from my biggest incision by my liver. I start my PreOP diet Aug 27th, and its only 3 protein shakes a day...no chewing at all! I've seen some that are 2 protein shakes a day and then a small amount of chicken and nonstarch veggies for dinner. What's your PreOP diet like and how long do you have to do it?

Hi. This is my first post, though I have been lurking in the shadows for a few weeks now. I am scheduled for my VSG this Wednesday the 3rd of August. I started by pre-op diet on the 20th of July. The first few days - maybe even out to the first week of my pre-op diet were tough. I was constantly starving, especially at first. Hello All. The scale moved again this morning and my BMI also moved: down to 30. What does this mean? Well, according to the CDC, I am no longer obese. I am just OVERWEIGHT! Who knew that being labeled overweight would be cause for celebration? I may have some extra chicken. ? So now the goal is to lower my BMI to under 25. This is the healthy range. Surgery is on the 16th, tomorrow is day one of my high protein liquid diet. We had 4 options to choose from … I’m going with the option that is 3 Fairlife Shakes, 72 ounce of no sugar added juice and 64+ ounces of water and sugar free liquids/jello/broth. Greetings, my nutritional consultant suggested I get my B12 level checked prior to surgery. So far my surgeon has not suggested any additional blood checks. is there any helpful blood screenings I should request during my annual physical next week? Vitamin screenings or other non-annual physical standard (lipids, CBC, A1C, vitamin D) I am looking at surgery either late September or early October.

Greetings, Post-op people - what was sleeping/resting/moving around like in your immediate post op time (first two weeks)? I have read some people couldn’t lay down for a bit and other similar issues. what was your experience?

I was sleeved a week ago yesterday, and my steristrips are starting to fall off. Most of them look like normal incisions and are healing nicely. This one is my drainage incision and has a weird indention and looks like an open wound. It doesn’t hurt and isn’t leaking anything, so maybe it’s just stitched down under the skin, but seeing a gaping hole is very nerve racking. Is this something I should go in for, or is this type of incision normal for the drainage incision? Thank you!
