I am a 5’5” female and my weight the day of surgery with clothes on was 226 lbs. I’ve tried to look up a good height to weight ratio online and it said I should be around 110 lbs, which seems a bit low. What should my goal weight actually be or is there a good place I can look it up? It varies from website to website.

I weigh myself on the 4th of every month along with measurements. Little late on posting i forgot. But yea no big changes at all in the last month. Weight loss has slowed down by a lot which is expected this far out. I had surgery in April of 2022. Struggling to get below 200. I leave on Sunday for the Caribbean which sucks because well the big food down there is everything is fried lol. So i am bringing me a load of "snacks and foods" in my suitcase lol.

I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and finally joined today. I have gotten a tentative approval for VSG. Final approval is dependent on heart health clearance via results of echocardiogram, which is scheduled mid-February. Hopefully, I can set up my surgery in March. I view Gastric Sleeve and all bariatric procedures, as tools to help, not as a sure fix....it is not the easy way out as some would claim! I have been severely hypothyroid since I was 20 years old after having most of my thyroid removed because of Graves' Disease (autoimmune hyperthyroid). Although, I take thyroid replacement, synthetic drugs do not work as well as your own natural hormones. For t…

Hi all, I had the gastric sleeve done in 2015 and have lost around 100lbs (depending on the season) lol. Ever since I was able to start eating solid food I would get full really fast with little food (to the point of feeling sick and sneezing), after 10-15 min. It would feel like my food would drop and I would be able to eat the rest of my meal. Has anyone else felt this?

I heard that the weight lost from surgery day to the 12 week mark is most commonly half of what the patient will lose total by their 1 year mark? For example, if I've lost 30 pounds by my 12 week weigh-in, I will only lose another 30 by my 1 year surgery anniversary. For a total of 60 pounds lost in the first year post-op. How true is this for you guys? Are most of you done losing around the 1 year mark? I know everyone is different and each situation is unique. I'm just wondering out of curiosity.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I have regained all 40 pounds that I lost. The weight gain started with the pandemic, add to that some very serious health issues with my child, and menopause, and numerous other excuses, here I am. I just don't know what to do at this point. Every single day, I wake up and say it will be a brand new day, but again, here I am. Help me please...

I had my sleeve on 12/13/2022 and after 30 days I have lost 25 pounds. Where should I be with calories in? Right now I am averaging 400 to 600 calories a day with protein target 61 GMs (I don’t always achieve) fat 33 GMs and carb max 33 grams (which I never achieve). Water intake 32 oz daily. I just can’t eat or drink more. I know I know 25 pounds in 30 days is good but I guess I thought weight loss would be quicker especially at first. HW 255. SW 237. CW 211.6

Hi All, I am back! I am having my Lapband removed. The port has been an issue. I’m having the band removed and vertical sleeve revision on the same day, February 2, 2023. I have been dealing with Fibromyalgia since 2014 and take three different medications for it. The meds just for my fibromyalgia number 12 throughout the day. If I don’t take these fibromyalgia meds I cannot get up out of bed and function. And I work full time. I asked my Bariatric doctor can I still take my meds right after surgery and he said I could with liquid. ? Those 12 fibromyalgia pills, doesn’t include all the other meds I am on and the pain pills he will p…

I really can’t understand the science behind why this is happening. I was sleeved on December 19. Tomorrow makes exactly two weeks since my surgery. Yet, this entire past week, my weight has stayed the same. Makes me feel like all this misery is for nothing. I’ve been on nothing but liquids. Protein shakes, chicken broth, jello, and yogurt. I add a scoop of protein powder to my yogurt for added intake. I’m literally starving. This liquid preop and post op has been extremely tough. To the point where I didn’t wanna leave the house and celebrate the holidays with friends and family. What’s the point of going around food and drinks and people having fun when I can’t…

What has been your experience with going into surgery with a weight of 205lbs or under? My starting weight was 220 but I've lost 15 pounds pre op. I've heard people smaller will not loose any weight. Going into surgery smaller what is the recovery like? (I am doing this surgery because I've tried everything to loose weight and live a better lifestyle)

I am driving myself crazy with pre-op jitters but anyhow. I have a BMI of 35 and my doctor told me to expect to lose 55ish pounds from surgery. I read you lose 8 to 16 pounds first month so I am confused everywhere I read says it takes 18 months to reach that weight. How is that so if I lose 8 to 16 pounds a month? I don't know if weight loss is much slower than what I am reading because I have a lower bmi. Can anyone clarify?

Hi sleevers , I had my blood tests checked post operatively as is the norm .I received a phone call from my G.P. to tell me the liver ones had come back looking not within normal levels .He said he was writing to my Surgeon to ask what my pre-surgery levels were in comparison to the ones just done BUT if they were the same , I should never have had the operation . He told me to take it easy , try not to worry and I have them retested tomorrow . Meantime the Surgeon hasn't replied to his request for the pre-op blood tests ,and I am a bit concerned .When I asked the surgeon what my liver looked like after the surgery (I knew I had a non alcoholic fatty liver ,it was…

Hi - I’m in my 6th week post op for gastric sleeve and I was wondering if anyone had sashimi/raw fish this early? If not how long did you wait post surgery to try it? Did you have any problems/sensitivity with it? Meeting a friend for lunch and scoping out the menu. I had rare seared tuna without issue over the weekend. My nutrition team did not call it out as protein to avoid at this time.

If you’ve seen today’s news, the American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending WLS as an option for teens who have struggled with obesity. The comments online are mostly negative. If you were obese as a teen, and surgery had been an option for you as a teen (money is a whole other story…), would you have taken it?

Last couple weeks i have felt a lot bigger than usual. Like a lot more fat than usual on the stomach i am like wtf am i gaining more weight? But i check the scale and its the same as it was a couple weeks ago. almost 9 months out the weight loss slowed down dramatically. For the previous 30 days i have only lost maybe 3lb which sucks but it is what it is. I am taking my first flight since weight loss here in the next 2 weeks and i have always bought first class tickets because well coach seats are tiny and horrible for overweight people. Now i can fit in them and my wallet is so happy not to buy a first class ticket lol.

I saw my surgeon today for my 3 month check up. I'm down 92lbs since starting my journey 8 months ago. He says I'm doing great but I kinda expected to be over 100 lbs by now. I'll just keep doing what he says and he assures me I will get there. Patience!! (what's that) LOL I also had a recent non-scale victory... bought 2 pairs of regular knee high boots and they zipped! Woohoo.

Wow! i formally started this process on December 27th, doctor submitted my info and psych eval to insurance on January 4th, and my insurance approved me January 5th. I definitely thought i would have more time to prepare but now my surgery is January 30th and I have a lot to prepare for before then. They wanted to do it on the 16th but that seemed too soon! I did research prior to my appointments but I didn’t expect it to move this quickly! Wish me luck!

What inspires you to do this? I have been thinking of doing this for the last 5 years after seeing co-workers go through it. Some, I have to shake my head about. I realize that I must 'remind' myself however many times a day my reasons for doing this. It is for me, I want a better life in which I can enjoy what life has left for me. I want my total independence back, be able to walk and run and go do all the activities I never felt strong enough to do. YOLO. Good Luck to all of us.

Hi all Hope you all had a great holiday break. I'm 2 months post op, and I can chug water very easily, I've had 0 issues with liquids this past month. I even made one of my proteins shakes with 500mls water and drank it all in about 30mins. It's weird because I can't eat egg, like at all, half an egg, instant regret, start foaming right away. Rice, same, a table spoon or 2 of rice results in foaming. As for other foods, I've been fine, I can eat meat so easily. There isn't any meat I've had an issue with. I'm even eating Beef jerky, but obviously there's a limit to how much my stomach can hold and it's about 1/4 -1/3 a cup of food every 2hours. Water or…

My surgery is Tuesday! My question is about protein drinks following surgery. I know in the beginning with liquids they suggest 3-4oz an hour. If I'm having a Premier Protein for a meal, am I only supposed to do 3-4oz of it, or can I have the whole drink? I keep forgetting to ask this at appointments and I know I can next week, but I figured I'd ask here also.

Hi All, I am 4 months post GS and I have been falling back into old habits. Like eating out of boredom. I thought I had addressed that behavior earlier prior to surgery. But now it has reared its ugly head again. I feel like I have a little demon in me telling me to eat that muffin, eat that cookie, try that cake. I can't seem to shake it off. I have I have been trying to drink water or tea when I get the need to eat. It works sometimes, but I have had 4 days where my little demon had full on control and I didn't loose any weight for two weeks. I guess the good part is I didn't gain any either. I am trying to figure out where this negative eating is com…

Looking for folks to follow and build with who are o a similar surgery timeline. I’m getting the sleeve on December 5. Let me know if you’d scheduled similarly and would like to share experiences and support here. Please feel free to introduce yourself in the comments. I’ve included my own intro below. ABOUT ME: I’m Sarah, a 40yo woman from nyc. I have a senior level professional job as a consultant and work from home most days of the week. I hate failing and I think that’s why weight has been such a hindrance for me, it’s feels like a personal failure. Im pretty active and close my Apple Watch rings most days. I had VSG back in June of this year and at first I thought the acid reflux was going to be a temporary thing. Unfortunately the acid reflux is awful, I am on RX medication for it that is not working and nothing seems to be helping at all with it. Has anyone else had major acid reflux and found anything to help with it. I guess I will be sending a message to my doctor regarding this to see what can be done. TIA.

I have 5 small incisions from my VSG. For the most part, I wouldn't even know that 4 of them are there - they have caused almost no pain at all. But.... the one where they pulled out my stomach... is crazy bruised and is still very painful 9 days PO. It doesn't hurt all the time, only when I engage my stomach muscles, when I stand up, get out of bed, and OMG the pain when I sneeze. I haven't really seen anyone comment on this. Anyone else have this? To be honest, it's more painful than my c-section incisions were.

I have had a rough emotional first month. I knew it might come, but it is different when you actually go through all the stages you read about. I have had a very slow start which added fuel to the fire. The good thing is, I finally see the numbers on the scale move and I can actually get more than 300 calories in one day...yay! But I am still having some unexplained emotional moments which lead me back to my doc. She prescribed 50mg of Zoloft. I took one pill, as prescribed, and totally felt wired out! My co workers told me to try and switch from using Zoloft bc of the side effects and withdrawals. Anyone else out there know anything about this antidepressant? Is my d…

I’m wondering how you guys satisfy a sweet tooth in this phase? I have things like sugar free werthers and mints, but it’s just not cutting it today.

Hi! I know this is obviously different for everyone but I am curious how long it took you to reach goal weight? I started at 303 in March and I'm down to 202 at the moment. My goal weight is 160 and I was really hopeful I'd get there by the 1 year mark but the loss has slowed down so much I'm not sure I'll make it. I think I'm more curious if anyone had a slow down around this point in time and the weight loss picked back up? I've heard from others that it tends to slow down after 6 months and stay that way. I actually mainly starting to worry that I won't hit my goal at all and maybe I need to change my expectations.....

Just want to recommend a lovely tea brand .. Tazo teas are lovey! It has great quality, simple ingredient tea bags that brew up well. i sometimes put monkfruit sweetener in it to enhance the flavor. My favorite is wild sweet orange. It smells and tastes heavenly. the glazed lemon loaf is pretty good and tastes naughty but i believe is no calories brewed - just a tasty way to hydrate.

Hi Guys, I'm scheduled for Gastric Sleeve surgery on 12/28/22. I am reading all these threads where people are stating that they are on pre-op diets/liquid diets for 2 weeks or so. Neither my surgeon or nutriotionist said anything about this. The only instruction I received was clear liquids only the day before surgery. They didn't even say it has to be sugar free. After reading through a whole heck of a lot of pre-op threads, I'm kind of freaking out & feeling like I'm doing something wrong or jeopardizing my surgery in some way. Am I wrong here? Should I postpone? Did anyone else not have to do a pre-op diet?
