  1. Had anyone's surgeon recommend also taking injections? I'm at my 6 month post op, 115lbs down and would like to lose about 60lbs. I was surprised when he mentioned this without any reserve at all. Just wondering if this is the new normal?

  2. Started by fed-up,

I have one every 3 months .I got called into have mine and they wouldn't do it because they said there had been a mistake- it was 10 days too early .I asked her to double check with a doctor but she wouldn't so I have to go back next week .Would my body really know it was a bit early ? I couldn't see the harm .

  3. So, I work with a lot of heavy lifting (wine boxes and loading them into u-boats, etc) and work has been accommodating to me, but I noticed that I was scheduled for a shift to basically go back into that on my 5th week from surgery date and I was advised to not do heavy lifting until the 6th week; is it going to cause complications? Or do you think it'll be manageable? ?

Hi all, Per my last post, I have been having really bad nausea and vomiting 6 weeks out (dr says I'm part of the "lucky" 10-15% who experience this). I attempted to take my stomach acid pill along with Zoloft prescribed by my psychiatrist. About 30 minutes later, I threw this up. I am now having SEVERE burning pain in my stomach and I don't know what to do. I used to have GERD before the surgery and this doesn't feel like that.. The burning is *mainly* in my stomach, not my chest or esophagus like how it was for GERD (in my experience). I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to combat this? I am afraid to take TUMS or any other anti acids as I usually…

  5. Hey everyone! So I was scheduled for Gastric Bypass on 08/07/23, but after reviewing my medical history, my surgeon believes that Gastric sleeve would be a better option for me (due to Psychiatric medication I currently take and past history of addiction). I am a little worried because I heard the chances of GERD/gastritis are higher with the sleeve? I already suffer from occasional GERD and gastritis, but I agree with my doctor that the malabsorption of Gastric bypass probably isn't a good fit for me. Anyone get the sleeve and have issues with GERD/gastritis before? Did it improve or get worse? TIA ?

I’m about 10 weeks post surgery. At what point can you drink liquids with food? With the summer being here, after I come back for a walk, I’d like to drink some water and heat up dinner. Pretty frustrating I have to wait 30-45 minutes before I can eat and it’s already a long work day.

  7. Started by pamelacoa@yahoo.com,

This may seem silly. I’m 7 weeks out, really doing very well but today I felt like I ate way too much. I track everything in an app and I’m attaching it here. What are everyone’s thoughts? I only ate “good things”, but I’m feeling stressed like I “over ate”.

Hunger Pang Hey guys I need so much help. From about my third or fourth day post op VSG I have had a battle everyday. #1 Before my surgery I have never truly experienced hunger pangs except for when I was younger. After I got older and even eaten less I did not deal with hunger pang. Since my surgery and I was able to eat purée, the first day I went to eat my food the pang/pain became so great my esophagus went into a spasm. I researched and asked my Dr’s office about this. They ask me if I’m drinking enough water, am I eating slow, am I drinking enough protein? To all their questions was ‘Yes’ I think so. Why am I’m dealing with hunger pain and it’s not head h…

Its been a little more than 9 months since I had gastric sleeve surgery and not a day goes by that I am pleased that I made this decision. I'm down 141lbs and feel great. To anyone thinking about if it's worth it, absolutely yes for me! I've got about 40 more lbs to go but I know I'll get there. I'm greatful that I have great support from my bariatric team, family, friends and my exercise girls at the gym... you all make this easier for me.

Hey All! I had my VSG ON 3/13/23, so I’m nearly 3 months out. Weight loss is going well, slow and steady with the expected stalls here and there. However, I have had an IUD FOR 3 years with no issues and no periods. Now since surgery I’m having periods again! They are more regular than I ever was before I had the IUD! Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks in advance!

Its really hard not to be in full regret mode at night. Im 2 weeks out and during the day I'm fine no pain or anything. However, when I go to bed I get about 2 hours sleep and then wake up in excruciating pain under left ribs that goes around to my back. I have been to the ER and they checked my heart and lungs, they checked my sleeve for leaks, they checked me for clots, and nothing. This pain is really unbearable. All I'm eating is thinned out greek yogurt, drinking protein drinks, Jello, drinking gatorade zero, water, and gatorlyte zero, and broth. I'm taking a ppi, gasx, stool softener, and laxative. I dont have a gallbladder, Im sleeping sitting up. I don't know what…

I need help from some long term post sleeve people. I am about 10years out and over the last 2 years have gained back 75lbs. I am still 75lbs down from my high weight, but I am not in a happy place with my weight and eating. I feel like I can eat almost normally now and that is not good. Has anyone gone through this and got their restriction back? What did you do? Thanks Devon

Hey pals looking for some tips and motivation… i had Vsg April 10 and i was progressing in my food stages good until 3wks ago, i can’t keep anything foods or liquids down… i was suggested by the surgical team to take a step back into liquid and purées but nothing has been staying down. I know I’m not eating or drinking fast, back to using the medicine cups and even trying different temperatures but the end result is always vomiting… I’ve been to the er 2 times and gotten ultrasounds and ct scans but told everything is normal…. I feel so weak and dehydrated and i want to get back to normalcy

I've returned from the land of those out of it. I was severely dehydrated a week after the surgery and I'm back on track drinking and eating soft foods. I had to up the water game since were going to the beach this weekend. My sister is also taking me to Disney in October . She purposely made sure I was in the next level for eating. I am thankful she had the surgery before me.

Hi All - My name is Kay. I am scheduled for my gastric sleeve surgery on 8/2. If I am not mistaken, I started the process in the first week of June. I never considered WLS because I never considered myself obese. I guess I was fooling myself. No one in my family is overweight; however, most have diabetes and HBP. I have HBP and am pre-diabetic. I went to see the gastro doctor out of curiosity. The appointment was an hour long. I met with a dietician, an insurance navigator, and a nurse practitioner. This was the first time I heard my weight out loud. I usually turn away from the numbers on the scale and instruct the person taking my weight not to tell me. I just usua…

  21. Hi, this is my first post, although I've read a lot on here and found so much helpful info. I was sleeved on 7/7/23. During the pre op diet and continuing to present, I find I get colder easily. It's actually kind of nice with it being summer and all. But is that common? And if so, does it last? I've always joked with my students who complain about the temp in my classroom that I have a lot more insulation than they do! Glad to say I've lost about 40 pounds of "insulation" since I started this process in May.

I’m 5 weeks out from surgery, and I have been stalled since 1.5 weeks. I’ve been trying to stay positive and remind myself that this happens and that I just need to stay on track. I know I need to stop weighing myself, but every day I wake up so hopeful to see a change, and every day I’m disappointed. At this point, it just feels like it was all for nothing. I’m just sad.

  23. Started by pickayla,

I’m a few days away from starting the regular/chopped food stage and I’m worried about getting enough protein. So far, I’ve been hitting my goals and about 4.5 oz of purée/soft food makes me comfortably full. This has allowed me to get a decent amount of protein at each meal. I’ve heard from a lot of people that you get full way faster when eating solid food, and I’m worried that this will cause me to not be able to get all my protein in. Is this what happens? Does it get harder to get your protein in once you start eating regular food? I’m just so anxious. Any advice or anecdotes is helpful.

  24. I thought they were kidding when they told me they have a discount card for me. It's an actual card that says I'm a bariatric surgery patient ,and as a result of having a small stomach,I can only eat small quantities. Please let her adjust her portions and price it accordingly . We haven't gone out to eat in over 10 years , but I think I'd feel silly using it ! Have you gotten one ?

I have two questions. #1- I went for my two week appt and told MD I was taking multi vitamins occasionally as they make me nauseous. I have been faithfully taking Calcium and B12. He suggested and gave me some patches. The nurse said they work well for some people. Anybody used them? Second question is does everyone get a Medic Alert bracelet or necklace or something? I know it’s important, but I feel kind of embarrassed as it’s not a terrible disease. I am probably being silly, but just wanted some input. Thanks!!

  29. Hi all! I’m a new member of the group - I hope you’re all well! I had gastric sleeve surgery on 31st January 2023, after losing 13lbs on the pre-op diet. On the morning of my surgery, I weighed 281lbs. I lost no weight in the first week even though I was drinking my required water intake and having between 60-80g of protein a day. Today is two weeks post op. I’m officially allowed to move onto purées and so first thing this morning, I weighed myself and I’ve only lost 4lbs?? I try not to compare myself to others, but I’m so disheartened and even low key regret having the surgery now. I keep seeing people reporting a stone weight loss …

Hi everyone! I’m 2 weeks post sleeve surgery. I’ve lost 11 lbs which is great and less than I expected. With an average 300 calories per day I thought the number would be higher. Im staying positive and I’m grateful to be rid of those 11 lbs!! I’m starting the purée diet and appreciate all tips on how to manage the texture. I’ve had some dumping and from what I’ve read it’s from eating too fast and maybe the sugar in my vanilla protein powder (5mg). I wasn’t expecting this! I appreciate your support!!

I just did my consult with my surgeon in 7/6/23 and met with the Dietitian today. She suggested this app as a good resource, so here I am! I am planning my surgery for January 2024, so I have time to set up good habits for myself. While I get myself “settled in,” hit me with some of your advice for newbies. I am looking forward to progressing in this journey and look forward to reading about your adventures!

Hi there, I was sleeved on March 7th, and I am happily 4 months post-op today. ? My question is to those who are post-op in regards to the surgery scars. I was given a scar cream that I try to use, but I was wondering how long it can take for scars to fade / lessen in appearance. I know they won't go away completely, but mine are a deep purple, and as I'm very pale, super noticeable. I am wondering if there is anything else that I can be doing to help the fading process, and, for those who are farther along in their post-op journey, when you found the scars lessened the most in appearance?

My sleeve surgery was 3/13/23 and I've been struggling with constipation ever since. I have been taking colace twice a day (approved by my doctor) and benefiber powder (recommended here) At a prior appointment, they said the benefiber would be ok. My PA approved the colace but mentioned yesterday that the Benefiber could expand and stretch my sleeve. So she told me to take Metamucil Fiber Thins instead. While I love the addition of a cracker to my day I am a little worried it may not work. Plus I'm going away for a week and hesitate to try something new beforehand but I'm scared about stretching my sleeve with the benefiber! Thoughts??

I am almost 11 months post opp and the last 2-3 month I have seen a dramatic halt in weight loss. It's to the point that I feel like I should have went with bypass instead of sleeve. At what point did you see the slow down? Did anyone plateau before they were even close to the goal? And did you do anything in particular to get the weight loss going again?

Hi all, I just had the gastric sleeve done on 6/21, and I am having so many feelings of loneliness and regret. I know this is a normal thing among people who have received bariatric surgeries, but even that thought doesn't bring me comfort. I stayed up all night the past 2 nights feeling like I just made the biggest mistake of my life, wondering why I didn't just exercise and eat healthier and spare my body and mind from this irreversible change. The first 4 days after surgery were the toughest for sure. Physically, that is. The pain was unmanageable even with the pain medications my doctors prescribed. Now the pain is (mostly) gone, and the liquid diet is kil…

  41. Greetings, So I finally had my sleeve surgery 3 weeks ago and while there has been weight loss, it hasn't really been what I expected. I don't have unrealistic expectations, but I expected to lose more weight than if I just did it on my own without the surgery with little calorie intake and some activity like with doing Optifast prior. Or just eating healthy and going for a walk everyday - which I wasn't doing prior. Perhaps it takes a month to really get things going, but I am hardly really eating anything when compared to the 4,000 calories+ a day I was eating that got me this way. I do eat a breakfast, lunch and dinner, so I am not starving myself - but …

Only now am I feeling like I am meeting my goals. I found it hard to drink that much in one day as my stomach healing directly after surgery. I'm on day two off of my liquid diet and on my pureed diet. I have tried a scrambled egg (could only eat half) and peanut butter (1.5 tbsp) but I find that eating food is hard. I feels hard on my stomach and takes a while after eating that I even feel comfortable enough to go back to drinking. (45 min to an hr). I feel like I've only just now star…

  45. After being back in the ICU for 5 days we finally discovered what the issue was. The 3 surgeries had caused my cortisol to drop severely low and I had been in remission of adrenal insufficiency for 2 years. They pumped me full of steroids and now I’m on 100 mg a day feeling better. They discovered my stomach was twisted and they need to widen the sleeve mouth so I will be undergoing 4 dilations so I can keep down my food. I want to point out that I have read some medical journals that say adrenal insufficiency is a very rare side effect of Bariatric surgery so if you have had a history of your cortisol dropping please be cautious. I was able to get down to 197 a few months ago but I have gained some back. I’m battling constant hunger.
