I signed up on here awhile back and waited to post anything until now and hope I can give some of my experience. March 1st of this year I had my gastric sleeve. I went in with a weight of 363 pounds and am 6’1. As of today posting this I am 225 pounds. Definitely was one of the smartest decisions I ever made for myself. Everyone’s journey is different. I was met with immediate energy following my procedure, like waking up everyday and ready to take on the world. And it’s still like that. For whatever reason for me, my eating habits and likes and dislikes immediately changed. I hated fish my whole life and now find myself craving it. Once loved ranch dressing, not it makes…

Well, most frown upon donating plasma (my family) but the process is nothing like what I thought it'd be. The center I went to which is near where I live was very much the opposite of what I thought it'd be. I had the initial interview questions etc. it's a 2-hour process and not everyone is willing to wait what have you. The following visits are easy and take an hour. At any rate, I was told that because of the sleeve surgery that I'd be able to donate on November 1, 2018, on the dot. So, that is what I intend to do. It's easy money, and it helps those that need meds from the plasma. 20 for the first visit, 40 for the second, and 60 for the 3rd and so on.

Hi all! I had my sleeve done on 11/21/2023! I am finding that no matter how many protein shakes I am having I am still hungry! I have tried yogurt, cream of wheat, protein shakes etc. My Dr. has me on liquids for the next 3 weeks and I am miserable! I was told today if I follow the plan, I shouldn't ever be truly hungry Any suggestions?! Edit: I am currently eating 75-100g of protein a day

  5. Hi friends. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on November 14th, and everything went smoothly. Pre-up was a breeze for me, I was excited, and generally my mood was good and looking forward to the future. Today, Ten days later and physically I am doing well, I think. I am having a mind over matter problem when it comes to “eating” well drinking my “food”, you know what I mean. Nothing and I mean nothing appeals to me accept really cold water and ice. I hate to sound so dramatic but I am repulsed by anything else, protein shakes, broth, etc etc. it’s not that I can’t keep it down or the taste is that bad (even if it is) it’s my brain. I see myself and I look different, I have …

  6. Has anyone ever tried long distance hiking after having the VSG? it’s on my bucket list but I wonder how this surgery will affect my ability to hike 20 miles per day for 3-4 months straight. I’m also curious about anyone who has taken up extremely physical activities post VSG like marathons, long distance cycling, triathlons, things like this. Does the sleeve preclude sustained vigorous exercise like these? Thanks!

Hello. I had my sleeve gastrectomy on June 13. I lost 30 pounds prior to surgery and have since lost another 72 for a total of 102 pounds. I am ecstatic except I can barely eat anything. Initially, I figured my progress was just slow, so I didn’t rush the stages. Then it was discovered I had a stricture as I was throwing up any solid food. I’ve since had two endoscopy procedures, but things don’t seem much better. I am mostly on a soft diet as a lot of solid food, even if eaten in very small quantities and chewed very well, will cause me to throw up. Many foods cause diarrhea. In fact, I’ve had chronic diarrhea this entire time. My doctor says to wait another month before…

Hello, I was sleeved on 11/6. Everything has been great, but my outter thighs have been feeling like pins and needles. Today they started burning. It’s mainly when I lay down or sit. I had a very mild case of this before surgery, but never this bad. They are on fire right now.  It’s from my knees to my waist and strictly on the outside, both legs. Anyone have a similar experience? Sorry, I just started using  this app and can’t find a search result for this. Thanks

I am in my 8th month post op. I get sick after I eat. Sometimes it is random or I ate to much. But, lately it is everytime I eat. I just feel yuck, nausea and tired, and don't feel good. Even if I don't overeat. Why and does anyone else feel this?

Looking at October 2022 for my surgery (vsg) anyone else around that time ??? I am already making a lot of dietary changes and want to do a “trial run” of some of the presurgical dietary requirements so that my brain and food issues don’t sabotage my success when it comes down to go time. Soo…. Roll call for October ??

Hi there, I’m 3 weeks post op today and 52 years old . I did not do a great LRD and probably didn’t lose anything . The day after surgery I was 14 st 9 and today I am 14 stone 5 lb!!! I have been working hard to get my protein in averaging 80g per day and now I’ve managed to increase calories up to 700-800 per day as my fatigue was so bad. has anyone else had such a poor initial loss? thank you

Would you consider that a full liquid? I was so sick of everything being so sweet, that I bought some and mixed with skim milk. Know I should have called NUT, but think I'll just stop as the gurgling and rumbling is insane. Anyone else try it?

  20. Started by Longview Lady,

I'm wondering what ideas everyone has for pre and post surgery liquid diet meals. I'm finding 'bone broth' is quite expensive for a mere 2 cups worth in each package. Yikes! Any ideas? What else do you use for your liquid diet - what has worked for you, and has a nice taste too? As for movement, I just love this guy, Adam. His youtube videos are free and the movement is gentle with guidance, 10 to 15 minutes. Check it out... *Didn't realize the picture would be so big. lol.

No cramps or full feeling. I'm worried if this is normal. Why am I not getting "that's enough" feeling now when I eat or drink now

5.5 Years Out Hi all - I used to be very active on these forums, but as I continue on my journey I have found myself relying less and less on this platform. I do like to check in occasionally to provide insight, encouragement, perspective, and more to those who are about to begin their journey or in the first few chapters. A little about me- I had VSG surgery in May of 2018. My highest weight was about 260 and I was put out on my body and my weight affected all aspects of my life. I lost a total of 140 pounds and have maintained (most) of that weight loss. I am up about 10 pounds in the last year or so, but mostly muscle as I have begun weightliftin…

My job takes me into peoples homes, and I go house, after house, after house. I'm worried about having an 'accident' due to the liquid diet. I know it's not even November yet, but has anyone been on a liquid diet and did you experience any accidents? Thanks. 2) I'm working on getting prepared in advance. It has got me thinking about what my goals/ hopes for the future are and I was wondering what things others are wishing for. For me: 1) Regaining my fertility / becoming a mom 2) Being able to shop for non-plus sizes 3) Being able to hike / bike without foot or knee pain 4) Getting rid of my sleep apnea / not being tired all the time 5) being able to comfortably sit in stadium seating 6) Lowering my cholesterol

  31. Hey all, I have a bit of a dilemma. According to the FitBit watch I wear everyday, I burn on average around 3000 calories a day. I eat no more than 1,300 calories however, and drink my 2 litres of water but I'm unable to lose any more weight? I've been at this plateau for about 3 months now (which is annoying because I'm a stone away from my goal weight), either staying at exactly the same weight or adding 2/3 pounds a week and it's so frustrating. I can't find any info on why this may be the case, so I thought I would ask you guys to see if you could shed any light? If I'm burning more than I'm eating, surely I could be losing weight instead of gaining? I know …

I was sleeved in March, and as of last week, I have officially lost 81. I started at 309, I'm currently 228, and I've noticed my progress has slowed down a lot. I'm anxious that I won't keep losing weight, because I'm only halfway to where I want to be. It sucks because I know I should be celebrating all of my hard work, but I'm scared I'll be stuck where I'm at and that my progress is over. I'm still tracking my calories, and I'm averaging about 1200-1300 a day. I walk at least 30 minutes a day, strength train 2 times a week, and I try to stay active on the weekend (5 mile hike & 1.5 hours kayaking yesterday). I struggled for so long to lose weight, and I'…

Hi All, I’m almost 2 weeks post op and struggling with hitting my protein goals! Mainly because I don’t like sweets and most shakes have sweeteners. I have tried pea protein with “natural” taste but tastes like raw flour added to the food! Is there no protein powder that is just tasteless and can be added to any food / drink without compromising the original taste? Thanks ?

  37. HELP!! I’m 2 yrs post op lost 130 lbs I eat pretty healthy trying to eat low carbs , low sugar . Recently I can eat anything but especially carbs , and not even 10 min after I have something on my stomach I absolutely go into these “episodes” I call them . Where I start sweating like I’m exercising, profusely dripping wet , rapid heartbeat, , and it last from 30 min to an hour and afterwards I literally feel like I’ve been through a battle . Hi has anyone had luck finding a good complete multivitamin? I’ve tried a few different brands and haven’t found one I liked. The ones I’ve tried at either really large tablets (hard to swallow) or taste awful (chewable).

October 5, 2022 was my surgery date. Forward one year and it has been wonderful. Got on the scale today and was at 198. So not only did I finally get to "onederland" but have lost 163lbs. My bmi is 28 opposed to 50+. I couldn't have done it without my bariatric team, friends and family cheering me along the way. I'm so thankful and even though I still want to lose about 25 lbs, I find it amazing with the tool of gastric sleeve, my life has changed so much.

A perspective on what it is like YEARS after gastric sleeve. I was sleeved in January 2018. Start weight was 265 lb, and I am now 174lb. I wanted to get to 160, but haven't got there. I am 5ft 9. Am I glad I did it? I'm conflicted on this. It's SO permanent. I get very tired of not being able to eat a normal size meal. Going out to eat is expensive and frustrating, cause I can only eat about 1/4 of what is on my plate. Cooking seems to take away any appetite I might have (it's like the smell kills my appetite), so by the time I am ready to serve a meal to my family, I cannot eat a bite. I still suffer nausea and vomiting, yes even 6 years down the track. Even if…

  42. Hi, I am nearing the 7 year anniversary of my VGS. I initially lost 102 pounds. Losing the weight was easy after surgery. A year later I started to feel too small. I needed to wrap my head around my new body. I felt that I was too small and gained 10 pounds. I was able to maintain this weight for years but then the Covid lockdown began, I ran into problems. Living alone, eating, & very little physical activity led to a 20 pound weight gain. Today I have gained 40 pounds and I am working towards losing the weight. Has anyone experienced the same? Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

I’m wondering how everyone is tracking at their 6 month mark. I had my surgery May 3rd this year. My starting weight before pre surgery diet was 309. I’m at 233 as of today and hopefully I’ll get to 225 by 11/3 I was hoping to reach 200 by the end of the year but I don’t think it’s possible. My goal weight is 160.

So I had my first meeting with my surgeon. She said that a bypass would be contraindicated for me for several reasons, the main one being because of my history of lower abdominal surgery (I've had nine stomach surgeries (counting my c-sections), and all but one of them were lower abdominal). But she also said it could turn out that the doctor would get in there, and there would just be too many adhesions from scar tissue, and they wouldn't be able to do it. A CT scan was done of my stomach recently, and they're going to evaluate that, but it has me worried now that I won't be able to get it. Has anyone else been told anything similar?

Hello all...I really do not know how this works. Anyway here goes.. I am over 50 and I live with and take care of my 76 yr old mother. She had back to back strokes approximately 10 yrs ago. Recently she had another stroke. She has to go back into rehab soon. (shes not released from hospital yet) During all this mess I have tested positive for Covid. I would like some help with questions i have regarding both our well-being. Scheduled for my last office visit for next week and don't know how this (covid) may affect securing a surgery date. Any information out there from anyone in a similar situation would be most welcome.

  50. I am absolutely terrified today after seeing my consultant. I had gastric sleeve surgery 26/07/2022 not for weight loss but to remove a stomach tumour. January this year I started getting stabbing pains under my left rib but wasn't really having any nausea, sickness or difficulty eating and drinking. After a CT scan in May and an endoscopy in August they found my stomach is strictured/stenosis. Today my consultant has told me the only option is to remove my stomach fully and sew my esophagus to my bowel. He said stretching it is not an option. I have an odd feeling (numerous reasons why) that they botched my operation and are trying to skirt around it. My c…
