Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums

Gastric sleeve (VSG) support. Ask about the procedure, the sleeve diet, weight loss results, recovery, and complications.

  1. Started by Nicnak,

Hi everyone. I was a cash pay in Vegas for gastric sleeve. They haven’t really followed up and I keep having to ask them for more info. They seem really relaxed about everything (outpatient surgery). I asked when I can exercise and he said I can begin anything I want now and I am only three weeks out. I’m just wondering if anyone else has been told that? I see 6-8 weeks most places.

I need to lose 15lbs before getting to the next step for the surgery on my sleeve. I am just feeling discouraged about it. I weighed myself this and I am down some weight but not as much as I would like. I know this is a lifelong thing and I will always struggle with this. Can you guys give me the pros and the motivation because right now I feel like I cant do this.

When I got the band I had been planning on getting a diamond band as my "reward". I got within 7lbs of my goal. I never got to goal and just started gaining almost to my band pre-op weigh. I revised to a sleeve on Thrus 02/09/12. I think I'm going to go ahead and get that diamond band as a reward for going through with the surgery. I think I deserve it! I was really scared. Afterall, I know I'll get to my goal with the sleeve and it'll serve as a reminder to follow the sleeve rules and that my sleeve won't fail me like the band did.

Hello new here. I’m scheduled for my surgery in August. Anyone out there scheduled for August? I am into affirmations and any positive thoughts and vibes. All vibrations will help you feel more confident and calm in the process of this new life journey.

  5. I'm in need of a new camping chair for this camping season. I know the kind I'd like and have found a few with a heavier weight limit but I'd like to hear from "real" people if they really hold up to the hype. Currently I'm just over 300 lbs. The chair that I'm looking at has a 500 lb weight limit (pictured below). Sounds good, but I've noticed these types of chairs have mixed reviews (partiularly saying that they don't really hold that much weight) Anyhow, here's an example of the type of chair I'm looking to get. Any suggestions? Maybe something different?

How long were you out of work? I have 3 children and was actually hoping to get this surgery shortly before their winter break so I can stay home with them. Not sure if my doc will sign off on me having 2 weeks off for FMLA. What was your experience?

Any over 50 sleevers? Did you find the weight after surgery came off faster/slower than someone younger?

Hello everyone...i wanted to make this post in the hopes i can get some ideas of my new lifestyle change. I finally got my surgery date for 11/13/2023. One of the main reasons for the surgery is i was diagnosed with Lympodema back in 2016 but was never really informed about how bad it would get throughout the years. with also being overweight it has made my mobility extremely difficult these last few years but i have to make the most of it to provide for my family. so my PCP and cardiologist said the surgery would help me in the long run. i was wondering if anyone also has/had lympodema that had the surgery if they saw any changes at all and if so what kind? have a blesse…

  9. I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any shows on Hulu or Netflix on Bariatric Patient's, Weight Loss Surgery, etc? The ones I've heard of are: Hungry for Change Fat Sick & Nearly Dead The Big Ward (watched) Pre-Op patients undergoing process of surgery. Obesity: The Post Mortem (watched) Dissection of obese person and how it affects the body. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

NEED TO GIVE CONTEXT I am wondering if any one experienceD this my starting weight was 139kg before surgery on the 15th of January 2023 on day of surgery it was 131kg 2 weeks post-op i was stalled for 8weeks which was not a bother to me at the time i healed quite quickly with no complications and was moved to solids within 3 weeks by the dietitian too. between January and April i lost some weight down to 111kg Since april i have not lost anything. I have gained and lost 3-4 kg since April till date which is September 6th 2023 I do everything many people say on every platform which had never been a challenge namely Monitor what i eat…

  14. Started by AmberFL,

So I had my surgeon appt he gave me a weight loss goal of 15lbs, which is very doable. I feel like my surgeon was annoyed with me, he had his MA called me 4x and even at my work to reschedule for earlier but the nutritionist told me he would need me to lift up my shirt and see my body- that’s not something I’m comfortable with at my workplace! So I told them I needed to keep my appt for later in the day. Then he arrived 25min early on our zoom meeting which I answered when I was 5min away from home and told him we can start if he was in a rush or I can log back on. He said to log back on- I get back on and I had my 18m old who was screaming because well he’s a baby! Idk h…

I went for my EGD last week due to all the GERD I have been experiencing for over 5 months which has got worse and no OTC or RX medication is touching it. Results of EGD: - Localized mild inflammation characterized by erythema and linear erosions was found in the prepyloric region of the stomach. Moderate bile reflux into sleeve. Chronic Gastritis. Doctor has me on RX Pepcid and I see him in 6 weeks to discuss revision to Bypass. Personally I wish I would have went with the bypass instead of the sleeve when I had my WLS. How was everyone's experience who had the revision to bypass that experience GERD. Was it gone after?

  16. Guest

I am 31 female weight 368 5’4 - I’m in the stages of deciding which surgery I’d like to do and I’m concerned about the sleeve being a newer option and not having long term studies as well as I worry about GERD with the sleeve, and the worry of having to get a revision eventually to the bypass if I went with the sleeve

  17. Greetings, So as most people do from time to time - I fell off the wagon for about two weeks while on vacation and in the process of that, I noticed that I was able to eat more without any discomfort. I wasn't gorging on food like I did to gain the weight that I had, but I was able to handle bigger portions or that 3rd slice of pizza. I screwed up and I know that. I actually feel guilty, especially considering all the weight I have lost. It was just the first time where it was harder to stay focused as I wanted to enjoy my vacation. I know next time I have to plan better. Now I am aware that the stomach does stretch again, but it is my understanding that it…

  18. Hello! I am scheduled for my sleeve procedure on September 26. I have yet to purchase a meal replacement shake for right after my procedure. My hesitation is the Bariatric Advantage samples I’ve tasted are absolutely disgusting. I love regular protein powder, but these are way too sweet and the flavor is so synthetic tasting to me, it’s hard to get down. I know you’re not supposed to take capsule or chewable vitamins, right after surgery, but am I able to take liquid vitamins and a different protein right after surgery? Thanks for any help!

Gastric sleeve on 01/06/23, Loss a significant amount of weight the first few months but only about 12 lbs in the last 2 months. I have less then 30 lbs to get to goal but I feel like this may take awhile. Any suggestions besides the obvious (consuming recommended protein, drinking water, counting calories, weighing/measuring food, exercise, etc.)

So, I had a screening phone call from the nurse and surgeon weeks ago and got the go-ahead for sleeve surgery on sept 12th. I had my in-person pre-op appointments yesterday. I am self-paid, mind you (18 000$), and already gave my 3000$ deposit. So, I meet with this nice dietician that starts asking questions about my past, about how I got to the weight I am now, etc. So, being an honest and open person (and also being already very nervous about the surgery, so, yes, I'm crying profusely during this appointment, which makes me look even worst), I explain that I have been suffering from Binge Eating disorder for the past 25 years and that, yes, it's still an activ…

  21. Hi everyone, there's so much conflicting information on the amount to be eating per meal. I am 5 years post op and I believe was severely under eating for a long time. Is 220 gm per meal / 8oz too much food to be eating, as in 1 cup? Some people say one cup is 128gm and I am just lost.

Hey all, I had my GS done on 6/21/2023, and I feel like I’ve been going through hell ever since. My surgery went great and the healing process went normally. But the weirdness started happening around 3 weeks post surgery. SEVERE nausea and vomiting 3+ times daily. My Dr has me on Zofran which only works sometimes and I’ve been living my day to day barely eating or drinking ANYTHING. My body REJECTS water (tried all different kinds and temperatures of water, along with different flavorings; nada), and it comes right back up. Food stays down a bit easier but even the thought of eating most things makes me gag. I’m prepared for the backlash on the comment I’m ab…

Hello! I’m expecting to get sleeved in late September, but I also have a big trip planned in December that’s been planned and delayed since pre-COVID. Did anyone travel long distance shortly after surgery? I’m not worried about what food will be available, moreso the physical and mental stress of a trip that soon after. I’m expecting to be back on soft food and the doctor said I can fly if I’m up to it, just curious if anyone has actually done something similar and how it went!

Hi all! I had Sleeve surgery 1.5 years ago and I lost 120lbs and hit my goal weight! Wahoo! I'm now maintaining. I have a child already that I had before surgery but I'm finding myself wanting one more. I love being able to move, play with my current child as I couldn't do this before. I'm VERY nervous that I will gain all my weight back that I worked so hard to get off. Or that my nutrients will be low ( I have to eat a multivitamin very very slowly because the iron makes me sick). I feel more confident than I have in years. I love the idea of two children but I do not want to risk my health.. Has anyone had a child 2-3 years out from surgery and not gai…

  26. So, this coming Tuesday I'll be 6wks post-op and I still feel like I'm suffering when I try to eat. I've been having my popsicles and shakes fine, but every once in a while I feel clogged up in my chest when trying my soft foods. I tried having a quesadilla earlier this week that was alright, but today I tried doing a poke bowl since it was soft foods via fresh fish, soft veggies, etc, but it felt uncomfortable going down that it took me 30min to digest it and have it be comfortable in me; does that ever get easier? I can totally be fine with the full filling, but eating is still unenjoyable for me because of this. I was told I should be able to eat normally by now (or at…

So I was wondering if anyone is diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and has gotten sleeved. I have been diagnosed for over 10 years and I still work, I push myself everyday and I am one of the busiest people you would know. I don't ever let it define my life or get me down (often) When I have a flare up it is usually very brutal. If I can't push through then it is BAD. So I was sleeved on August 12th. I think I am doing Ok, I did my first week with Water, broth and sugar free Jello, then on Tuesday added some Meal Replacement drinks, cottage cheese, refried Beans, and egg. I thought on Wednesday that I was doing well but the last few days I have felt really just "icky." I am tire…

  30. I know stalls are normal, but man I am getting pissed at this point. I hit 7 months on March 17th, but I have been in a stall for almost 2 months. I have tried eating carbs then going back to no carbs. I tried upping the calories. I upped my exercise(and gained 2 lbs). I have no idea what else to do. So what other things have worked for people to get over a long term stall. ?

  31. Started by Connie88,

Hi everyone! I am scheduled for my gastric sleeve for August 17th. I am 5'3" and 230 lbs so the doctor said I need to lose 100 lbs. Honestly I am super nervous and keep having thoughts of excitement but then I think well maybe I will just cancel it. Is it normal to feel this way? I would love to meet other people that are scheduled on the same month or around so we can somewhat do this process together.

I am 34 yrs old and 5'0 and 225 lbs . My surgery date is Oct 1st and I am soooo nervous. My fear is being too skinny. ( Crazy right?) Before I had children, I was 103 lbs. Looking back that was too skinny. I looked horriable. So my question is has anyone else started out around 225lbs and how much did you lose?

  33. Started by LMorales,

I'm 3 weeks post op and have only lost 14 lbs and now have hit a stall for almost a week. I was losing like a pound a day during full liquids. Now I am in soft food stage and haven't lost a lb since starting soft food. How do I break this stall. I've only lost 14 lbs and almost 4 weeks post op.

  34. So I got my surgery on June 22nd - about nine weeks ago. I am 5'8", 35F, and started out at 320, I'm currently 288 for a loss of 32 pounds over about two months. Is that okay? For the last week or so, I've had a really rough stall and barely been losing anything. Some days I'll even gain a pound. This is my second stall. I normally eat between 600 and 1000 calories (mostly about 800) and almost entirely protein really. Is there an issue with me? Is my weight loss rate okay or is it too slow? I feel like I should have lost like 50 pounds by now. What about this stall?

  35. My surgery date is 09/25/17, and I do not have a lot of support. I am 29 and do not have any medical conditions except for asthma and the fact that my BMI is 44. My parents feel like I should not have to be "cut open" in order to lose weight, but they do not understand my every day struggle. My dietician (outside of the bariatric program) reminds me that if I get this surgery I can possibly develop esophageal cancer because you apparently get GERD after gastric sleeve. I only have one supportive friend, and she's sad because she feels like I'm going to become a different person because of hormones and that i won't be able to drink anymore. I just support from someone and …

  36. I’m approx 24 post surgery and the pain is intense. I’m in Norway - they don’t seem to believe in opiates or strong pain meds here so I’ve been getting infrequent doses of IV paracetamol and some sort of paracetamol suppository a few hours ago. The IV helped to sleep a bit, but the pain is way more intense than I was expecting. I’ve got a bad headache and feel dehydrated but drinking causes a lot of pain and discomfort. They gave me some sort of strawberry nutrition drink to go through before they discharge (no leak test planned) and it’s really rough. Hard to get down the tiniest sips, causing nausea and hiccuping which is painful on the incisions. I’m feeling awful and …

  38. hello everyone!! I thought since this is brand new to me, and I just joined today that I would introduce myself to everyone since I've seen other people do that. My name is Ross and I am 34 years old. I was born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas, and last June moved to Tuscaloosa Alabama. I moved to Tuscaloosa with my little brother who is a student at UA and a member of the coed cheer team. I also cheered for many years of my life, so it must run in the family. haha! While in the hospital (Sept 21, 2023 for me), my surgeon has said I'll be walking 5 minutes once an hour. For those of you whose surgeon recommended a similar regimen, for how many days do I need to carry on this onerous regimen? I don't mean the walking is onerous; just the having to set the timer for every hour. How can I get any sleep? If this goes on only the first 24 hours post-op I can surely deal with it. But if I need to keep this up for a few days or longer, I'm wondering if perhaps I should get an elliptical or treadmill for home. The only reason I'm all wigged out about this is because my living quarters are very tiny and I can't walk for 5 minutes inside …

Hi, I'm considering the gastric sleeve. I am 55 years old and 270 lbs. No diet is working for me. I'm so frustrated. I am on a lot of medication especially psych meds. My psychiatrist thinks I will run into problems being approved for surgery because of these meds. My appointment with the surgeon isn't until the beginning of October. Did anyone else run into problems getting approved for surgery because of medications they were taking? Were they able to work around it?

I had Gastric sleeve with Hiatal Hernia repair on June 1st. I've had a few different issues like a skin rash, numbness in my legs, but the biggest one is the Acid Reflux. I've had it on and off for a few months. The last 2 weeks it feels like a lump in my chest and throat as well as feeling like there are chunks rolling around in my stomach. The heartburn is truly awful. I'm on omeprazole and take tons of Antacids. During my endoscopy they found out I had gastritis but without h pylori. My doctor is having me go back to liquid diet for 5 days and double my omeprazole during that time but it's not working. Has anyone experienced this? I need advice or things to ask my surg…

  44. I was discharged from the hospital Friday after having gastric sleeve surgery. The first afternoon after having the surgery, I had a strange observation. I had my phone with me in the hospital and noticed that tones I was used to hearing were lower in pitch than normal. I have no idea what caused this and it hasn't happened before. Luckily, this is the first major surgery or procedure I've had requiring an overnight hospital stay. I was wondering if this could be a side effect of the narcotics? I was on a Dilaudid PCA while in the hospital then given a Loritab Elixir Rx for pain, taken every 4 hours. It's been two days since I was discharged from the hospital and I still …

Hi everyone. I am 33 days post op and lost 16 pounds. I’m so frustrated bc I’m doing everything they told me to do and the scale is barely moving. I’m walking 1.5- 2 miles a day. I am literally weighing and tracking every single thing I eat. I am getting my protein 95% of the time. I am getting my water in. I know it’s about more than the scale, but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t depressing to see it move so little. This week I lost 1.6 lbs. last week it was 1.2. When I went back for my 2 week check even my surgeon looked surprised that I had only lost 7 pounds in the first two week. This has me feeling so defeated. ?????

I in my most recent trial to do it on my own have gotten down to 235 which took about 8 weeks to do so starting at 250 pounds. I have no gained 11 pounds back and back up there which has led me here to finally considering gastric sleeve.
