  1. Hi all!!! I hope you are all keeping safe and having a great school year! I started going back into work this year (I was remote last year) and boy I am starting to fall back into old habits! Its so easy to go the day without eating anything and then pick up fast food on the way home. I cant just go to the bathroom every 30 minutes so I drink way less water than I used to. When I get home I still have work to do so I don't work out as often I used to. And Im so used to having a drink while I work at home that its hard not to want to stop at my local liquor store after work (especially after a trying day dealing with parents who refuse to send their kids to schoo…

I thought zero alcohol beer was a solution. Now understand that carbonation might be a big challenge. Can I hear about your experiences with carbonated beer. Does it ever get normal? What month post surgery did you try? Will I be able to drink a cool beer at the beach?

Hello everyone, I'm 14 months post op (sleeve) and have surpassed my weight loss goal. I've noticed over the past few months that I find myself constantly eating and snacking. Now this has not affected my weight loss but it does make me worry if my grazing brings a potential to gain it all back. I snack on a variety of things but mainly natural nut trailmix with raisins or cranberries. Sometimes the occasional bag of popcorn, fruit, or jerky. Part of me thinks its a mental thing in which I have a need to be constantly chewing, but idk ?‍♂️. Has anyone else experienced this or is experiencing this?

I have a question. I had my surgery Dec 28. I had lost 60 pounds before talking to surgeon but I had hit such a plateau or I was only losing about a pound a week that I decided to try the surgery . The first three weeks I lost 28 pounds and doctor was thrilled. But since then I seem to be stuck again losing a pound or nothing each week. Ive been so concerned about the number of calories Im eating, but I realized I'm not getting even closee to the 120g of protein they wanted me to. I'm getting about half of that or maybe a little bit more, like 70-75g. My question is...could it be I'm not eating enough? Do I add protein to hit 120 and not be concerned with calories? Basica…

So i just got back from a trip to Puerto Rico (work trip) and man that place is not for people who had weight loss surgery. 1st there is no sugar free anything. especially drinks. No sugar free gatorade, powerade ect... Nothing low carb. Bread is a huge huge part of everything. I even went to a walmart and nothing. just some protein bars and such. Only protein shakes i could find were just regular ensure and some other strange brand i have not seen. Best part was i finally fit in a coach seat without issue. before i would spill over to the next seat or be so tight it would be so uncomfortable. Now i fit perfect with plenty of room to spare. Got to say i am happy to be bac…

I am scheduled for the sleeve next week (Feb 23). Looking for ideas on documenting this journey, i.e photos, videos, ect. A few years ago I saw someone that had taken a picture once a month in the same spot, same clothes, then put them into a video and you see her literally shrinking. It was very cool. This is for my own self, NOT for social media, but wondering what others do? I'm not a journal writer, but I'm sure that would be tremendously helpful to go back and read where your head was at!

Curious if anyone else has experienced decreased libido in the months immediately following weight loss surgery? Im just under two months post op and I’m also recently 40 so I’m not sure if it’s age or surgery related though it’s only really been prominent since surgery. While I’m feeling increased body positivity I’ve noticed a decline in the intensity of my craving for sexual gratification in general. Not sure if it’s related to decreased predictability in how my body handles or the semi frequent nausea. Is this normal? I’m hoping it’s temporary.

How did you know it was time to up your calories? I am 3 months post op and averaging about 750-850 calories a day. I am hitting my recommended protein and fluid goals. I recently started working out regularly and burn about 250-400 calories a day from exercise (according to my Apple Watch). I am starting to wonder if I am not eating enough and it is hindering my weight loss. I am still losing, just slowly, and it is more of a yo yo type loss. I am worried about not properly fueling myself and wrecking my metabolism. I am not feeling overly hungry or deprived. My dietitian/surgeon won't give out calorie goals. They take the approach that if you follow the prote…

I think I've settled in on getting bypassed, so I'm trying to gather all the information I can. Dumping doesn't sound pleasant and I want to get as much information about that as I can. I have read sugar and fat is the biggest contributing factor to dumping. I get added sugar and fat, but what about items that have natural sugars, like fruit? Or natural fats like avocado or nuts? What about sautéed vegetables in olive oil? Or is Dumping more of a personal trigger? What are your go-to alternatives for sugar and fats (oils and butter for cooking) Thanks all!

I am about 12 weeks out from the sleeve. I have more variety and fewer restrictions. However, I have noticed I stopped eating slowly. I still use a baby spoon to keep my bites small but stopped timing my bites 1 minute apart like suggested by my team. I think I stopped because I was tired of my food being cold after a few nibbles. Also, I would stop eating not because I was full but because it took so long... I'm a busy mom of 4 kiddos. So I really picked up the pace. I've noticed it's easier to overeat due to delayed hunger signals but I still have never vomited or been in pain. My full signal seems to be pressure in my stomach/chest area.. almost the same signal I had i…

I had my sleeve 8 days night I woke up screaming because of pain. Which is something I never have done. I have an extremely high tolerance for pain. But my whole body ,from shoulders to feet hurt when I moved. I called a 24 hour nursing service I used and they asked if I had ibuprofen. I said I couldn't take that but my Dr said I could take my meloxicam rarely as it's only the 7.5 tabs. She said take that with a cup of hot chamomile tea if you have that or other hot tea if not seep it for awhile. Then she started looking up info on the sleeve and said this is something that can happen for up to 2 years. The reason I'm posting this is not to scare you but to say the tea a…

Hi, I'm 5 day post op and have ZERO energy. On a clear liquid diet until Tues, complete with a min 60 grams of protein from shakes. I am now able to get 60-70 g protein daily and drinking all the water I can tolerate.. I also have 1/2 cup diluted 100% grape juice to get some carbs. Is it normal to be WIPED OUT even after naps and the daily recommended protein and water?? I almost feel weak like I have the flu but know I don't.

I've done a lot, and I mean, a LOT of research so I don't really have any questions, (not that I'm a know it all, just a Googler.) I'm considering the sleeve but I'm concerned with increase in GERD symptoms. I already have reflux that is controlled with medication. My doctor keeps saying once I lose weight that the GERD will improve. What are your experiences? I've considered the bypass, but absorbing the correct amount of medication and dumping syndrome are holding me back from that procedure. Thanks!

I've gone in 3 times to get my sleeve the first they found a MASSIVE haital Hernia. 1/3rd of my stomach in my chest. So fixed that. 2nd time they sent after waiting for hours because they had no beds. ( I have to travel 1 1/2 hours to get there) on Feb 1st we got it done. I'm home, with such minimal pain that it's wonderful. I hope and pray for all coming g up for surgery that you have as little di omfort as I have had.

Hi all, I’m 6 weeks post op from my VGS. I take 9 pills in the morning and 7 at night, plus vitamin chewables and calcium chews. Taking meds takes me FOREVER every day with taking one pill at a time and then the 10 min wait in between each one. By the time I finish my morning meds it’s lunch time and half my day is gone. Will I ever be able to take all my meds at once again? This is killing me!

I just wanted to share some Costco finds that are Bariatric friendly. I found these this week and they have made my meal planning super easy! -Sukhi Chicken Tikki Masala: 1/2 cup is about 145 calories with 17 grams of protein. The box comes with 2 bags. One bag provided me with three 1/3 cup servings and one 1/2 cup serving. I’m freezing the other bag for another time! -Sous Vide egg bites: one egg bite is 145 calories with 9 grams of protein -Paleo Chicken Sausage: 1 link is 160 calories with 16 grams of protein -Fairlife chocolate protein drinks If anyone has any other great Costco finds to share please do!

  39. I had the gastric sleeve on Nov. 29th. I am doing well except the constipation is horrible! I take colace twice a day and today is day 4 with no bowel movement (sorry for the TMI). I am wondering what others use to help with this? I am feeling so bloated. I have milk of magnesia, and some generic laxative pills i got from CVS pharmacy, also have miralax in the house. Monday it started more like a burn. Saw my dr and he said it was normal. Tuesday when I got up from the coach I left my insides literally rip and a burning sensation. It kept happening everytime I would walk and get up from sitting to standing. I went to the ER . They did xrays, ct scans, blood work and everything came back good. The er dr called my surgeon. I apperantly ripped an internal suture. It is the worst pain I have ever felt. I am now on bedrest and pain meds to heal. Has anyone ever been throu…

Hello, I was wondering how soon after your insurance companies approved you for surgery, did you get a surgery date? My insurance company only requires documentation of the procedure, documentation of failed weight loss attempts (i have a letter from my PCP for this), a psych eval, and nutrition eval. I feel i can have all of that in the next month or two. Is it possible that i could have surgery this year?

  43. Started by cut.the.VS,

Summer 2022...I started researching, or should I say, obsessing over all things VSG. I was watching YT and researching doctors. In Nov I had a consultation with Dr Lee from Birmingham, AL. I decided to go with self pay. As far as health goes I have high blood pressure. I was informed I needed to submit my labs and clearance from my PCP. I was unaware of how fast I could have the surgery done. I have not set a date because my PCP told me my insurance would cover the procedure. I was referred to Dr Copperwheat in Georgia. I have my seminar with him tomorrow. I honestly don't want to go through the rigorous process with Medicaid but I can keep my 10995 in my pockets!!

Hello, My name is Tiffany and i have my consultation for VSG surgery at University of Virginia (UVA) on the 30th. I have insurance with Cigna and i was wondering if anyone else has had surgery at UVA with Cigna Insurance? Does UVA have requirements before you get surgery or is it just the insurance company? I"m also wondering how soon after approval can you have surgery? Per my insurance companies requirements, I only need to get a phych eval and a nutritionist evaluation. I already have a letter from my PCP. I'm anxious to start the process.
