Hello All, I’m kind of freaking out right now. I am 10 days post gastric sleeve. I was so excited for finally being able to sleep on my side last night, but then in the morning when I tried to turn, I felt a POP on my right side and the pain hasn’t gone away. I needed to hold my abdomen to alleviate the pain and put on my abdominal binder. It does not hurt if I am sitting down, but there are certain movements that hurt like hell. Does anyone have any idea what could it be? My doctor’s office is close and I am not sure if I should go to the ER.

My nutritional consultant talked about reprogramming my swallowing center with surgery; learning to chew more thoroughly to process foods into a paste before swallowing to get the most nutrition and satisfaction from meals. since then I have been trying to pay attention to my swallowing while trying to begin my preop diet changes (no surgery date yet but I will do 3 weeks at 50 carb hard limit) . It really i difficult to do properly without paying 100% attention to your mouth’a actions!!! I like to gulp drinks and take only a few chews before swallowing. It is making me even more mindful of my eating process. what was your experience with reprogramming your swal…

Greetings, how long before surgery did you inform other people of your plans t get gastric sleeve surgery? I am currently looking at a flurry of doctors appointments leading up to a surgery in October. I work in a small office so my absences are seen. Getting the surgery isn’t a shameful thing, but I see it as private for now. I don’t know how much closer to time I should wait. I am concerned about other people’s reaction. I know there will be judgements and gossip. (I know they already are!) Once I tell, I want to be open and honest because I hope the results will be noticeable. I just don’t look forward to dealing with the people. Getting the …

How many days off work did your dr suggest? how many days did you take? Do you think you should have taken more or less or go part time to start? my surgeon has said he recommends a few days off after surgery. I plan on at least a week off and then part time for a week or two as I go through the first part of the recovery. My job is mostly in an office. I do go out in the field to do some work, but will be putting that on hold during the first part of my recovery. I would love to know real experiences!

I am one of the lucky ones, I don't feel hunger yet. So do I have to eat a meal if I still feel full after an earlier meal ? At times I feel as if I am forcing food down just to make my protein quota. Is it ok to just have a drink of milk to get to my quota ? I would ask my team but I am a month away from seeing them. Any help is appreciated, thank you

Hello everyone. My name is Steve and on the 30th of August I'll be having my gastric sleeve surgery done. On the 9th I start my pre op diet. I've built it up in my mind that this is truly going to be a life changing surgery. I've struggled for much of my adulthood to hold down a job and have a balanced social life. I am currently 374 pounds and 6'2. I know the surgery won't be a magic ? if you will, but I'm hoping it will serve as a catalyst to a better quality of life. I'm a bit nervous about the pre-op diet which begins on the ninth of July from the standpoint of how hungry I envision myself being. I live in Northern California and am traveling down to Tijuana for…

So i had my 3 month blood test for vitamins and such. I got the results early this morning and everything is in the green. Only small issue is my iron saturation is just 1 point below normal. But iron total levels are good. Other than that every other vitamin, protein, calcium ect... are good. I thought this blood test would have had my cholesterol checked as well because it was high before surgery but i guess not. I will go ahead and order my own cholesterol test here next week to see how it is.

(Sorry for all the questions.. as my possible surgery date comes up my mind keeps thinking of new and interesting worries) Married people post surgery: what changes to your relationship did you experience ? how did your spouse adapt to change to that comes with weight loss or well, did he/she not adapt? I know that my husband will be there 100% right before and immediately after surgery. Unfortunately, a week or two out I don’t know how he will be (he will be “done” with it and wanting to “go back to normal” which won’t be possible.) and I really don’t know how he will cope when hopefully my confidence continues to grow and my self esteem continue…

I am sure this question has been asked before, but I didn't see it. I am looking for how many calories we should be taking in during the early post-op timeframe after being sleeved. From the handouts I got from the dietician, it says I should be shooting for 1,000 calories a day, but it didn't say when I should start. I am in week 3 post-op and was talking to a friend this weekend that had the sleeve a few years ago. He could tell I'm confused and a bit frustrated. He thinks I'm starving myself and should eat more if my stomach is ready for it. Here's some numbers: - Week 1 post-op, I was on clear liquids. I probably took in about 400 calories a day and lost 12 1/…

At 7 months post-op, I finally hit 100 Lbs lost. I am scheduled for a conversion on September 1st due to the fact that a recent EGD revealed a kink in my stomach (the part that empties into the intestines). This kink has caused me to not be able to eat and has resulted in the rapid weight loss. My surgeon is going to convert my sleeve into a bypass to correct the issue. I'm supposed to have my gallbladder removed as well due to the fact that I now have gallstones also. It really sucks to have to go through this all over again (the pre-op diet, the procedure & the recovery). Everyone keeps telling me that I need to get myself better and back to 100%, which I …

Time for my monthly measurements and weigh in... Surgery April 18th. I weigh and measure myself on the 4th of every month. As you can see this past month has been very minor improvements. I was in a stall for a couple weeks and i think i am breaking the stall. 3 month follow up was last week. Went over blood work and my iron was just 1 point below normal. Otherwise all other vitamin test were in the green. I am hoping next weigh in i am at least in the 230's to 220's at least.

I had Gastric Sleeve surgery in January of 2021. In the 18 or so months since, I have regained about 10 pounds, even though I try to make healthy choices and exercise daily. In an effort to get this under control before it's too late, I have tried a variety of prescription medications to help curb my appetite. Initially, I used Wegovy, and it was a miracle drug, but with the side effects and the cost after the 6-month trial period, I felt it was unrealistic to continue. Then I tried Tomiramate, with terrible side effects. Finally, I began taking Phentermine, which has no effects whatsoever on my appetite. I have now begun to take Plenity, but I am skeptical that it …

Just got done with the nutrition consult. Another tick box down! I got a lot of information. Glad that I am already working on food issues!! my pre-op diet will be 3 weeks of carb control (50 carb limit) or meal replacement protein shakes for breakfast, lunch, snack and protein and vegetables for dinner. I believe I will do the carb control. how does this compare t other pre-op diets?

So I have a few friends that did the sleeve (I'm 3 weeks out) and I've been telling them my left side hurts alot especially when getting up/moving. They both had the same pain apparently the largest incision where the stomach is pulled from.....1 friend 2 years later still has some pain the other 5 years out and is fine now. So my question is how long did it take ypu to be pain free if you had this same issue? TiA

It has been soooo long since I posted here, probably not since I was a few months post op back in 2016. I am now 6 years post-op (July 26) and have found myself really really struggling. I have gained 15 lbs. I know that may not seem like a lot to some people but I feel like I have made it so far and damn, why is this starting. I mean I know why. I'm eating poorly, I am relying on my sleeve to trigger my full feelings but I am def eating whatever I want, dumping, and doing it again. I am going through a rough time emotionally and I have restarted therapy but man I am finding it hard to not to eat my feelings. And what I eat is what I call punishment or self hate food: an…

Hi all My surgery is scheduled this Saturday and one of my key concerns is my inability to have any kind of artificial sweetener including Stevia - it gives me an instant horrendous headache. I’ve managed my pre-op prep with Isagenix shakes which have no artificial sweetener. However all the post op advice focuses on sugar free items. Anyone else have this issue? Advice? TIA - Flikka x

I am a little over 3 years post op now. The past year I put no effort in to maintain or monitor and only this week got back on the scale for the first time and the results are what you would expect. I gained back 40lbs. The biggest difference in year 2 vs year 3 is the return of hunger. The sleeve prevents me from overeating at meals but it will not stop grazing and if you eat calorie dense highly processed foods you will not get restriction. This is a frustrating setback and I have no one to blame but myself. The honeymoon doesnt last forever and when it does wear off you will have a battle if you did not form good habits.

I've been on the full liquid diet like I should, but my daughters made a batch of tater tot coins in the air fryer and I took one. Just one. I feel guilty because I know it's not the best for my healing stomach. However, I can say that at least it was only one coin (not even a full size tot). There is only so much sweets one can handle (liquid diets are like 90% sweet and 10% broth). I don't plan on doing it again anytime soon, but wanted to know if anyone else has slipped? I have asked nicely that they don't make those foods in front of me while I'm recovering, and they agree. I clearly have more issues with food addiction than originally thought. I will continue workin…

Hey fam, New here and strongly considering gastric sleeve surgery. I found this site from a helpful youtuber who documented their journey and spoke highly on it. Been looking more into it to be sure my insurance covers or at least will pay for the majority as well. I'm mostly looking for thoughts/suggestions/pointers for those of you who have gone through it. Things you wish you had known before going into it to better mentally prepare myself (or anyone considering ) before making the leap. Currently, I'm 35 5'3 and a bit over 300lbs struggling with weight most of my life as I know many do. I know my stress eating is something I'll really need to work on prior…

Ok, ladies… this is the stuff many of us wonder about but don’t talk enough about… we all understand the impact of our hormones and cycles on our lives, but how does the presurgical diets, surgery and post surgical steps impact your hormones and cycles? Did it have little to no impact? Leave you a quivering mess? Make periods come more or less often? Or randomly? experiences from any stage of the process and stage of life is helpful!! I am pre-surgical but have been loosing weight and my cycles have gotten longer and less consistent when I have them (it also could partially be my age of 42). I also used to feel a hormone surge right before my cycle would st…

Per my insurance, my surgery will most likely be in January 2023. I’m having to learn a lot and learn to portion control everything! I’m having moments of sadness at foods I may never enjoy again. Will the “hunger” feeling go a way even just a little bit? My nutritionist recommended this site. This is my first post so please go easy on me?

In the UK we have a different medical set up than others have. Our normal needs are taken care of by our local doctor. My bariatric surgeon has no more input into my care. His team of dieticians etc, just look after diet and problems around it. I had my blood tests and they are good but my Cholesterol is higher than they want it too be. They want me to go on Statins. I want to know if I need to argue my corner and say NO to them, is higher Cholesterol a temporary thing ? Once I can eat a variety of foods will it go back to its good levels. Thanks for your replies in advance

So things were really busy at work, and they brought in lunch. I made myself a bagel with vegetables and brought it back to my desk. I was totally not paying attention when I suddenly realized that restriction hit-- I looked down and saw that I HAD EATEN THE WHOLE BAGEL, leaving over literally two bites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now yes, I know that I need to be more mindful, pay attention to what's going in. And yes, I was totally annoyed at myself for allowing that to happen. But I have a different, more pressing question! WHY WAS I ABLE TO TOLERATE THE ENTIRE FREAKIN BAGEL??????? Why didn't restriction hit way earlier??? Shouldn't my stomach have protested earlier?????…

One of the reasons I finally committed to surgery was the crippling, crushing lower back pain I was experiencing. I couldn’t work any longer. I literally couldn’t stand for more than a few minutes before surgery. I was basically trapped at home. I was fervently hoping that the pain would improve and I could go back to work after surgery. I've lost 75 lbs since I started the bariatric pre-op process, 25 of that since my surgery at the end of May. And the past two weeks? The pain is gone! I still get tired easily and I'm not running around by any means but I can walk through a store now or stand in line at a register and I just called work and told them I'll be back in…

Just an accountability check in/update. I’m so thankful I didn’t chicken out of this surgery. I’m 3.5 weeks post-op, still in the puréed food phase and down 26 lbs. the puréed stage hasn’t been that difficult as I’ve gotten creative with my options. I’m still drinking a couple of protein shakes as I can’t really eat more than a 3-4 “bites” before I’m stuffed. I am struggling to get all my water in daily. I seem to top out at 32 ounces, not including at least a small bottle of Gatorade zero and the 12 oz of 1% milk for my shakes. I started adding a collagen supplement and that stuff smells horrible. ? All in all, everything is going smoothly thus far. ?

Hi everyone I'm new to bariatric pal. I am actually new to forums period. Never joined one but was hoping to get some help with those who have done the sleeve surgery done in southeastern MI. I am currently researching different programs in hospitals in SE MI and am struggling with settling on one. The few individuals who I know have gotten the sleeve surgery have done so in Mexico, which is not an option for me. And one individual had it done at St. Mary's in Livonia, MI put developed complications and she's really struggling. So far I have started the process at UofM Ann Arbor and to be honest with you, I was not that impressed, especially with the sched…

I wanted to give an update since I'm almost a week past surgery. I've had my days of feeling like I'd made a huge mistake. I've had to have IV infusion of fluid already and I've had other issues that have made me highly emotional. I can't say I won't have a few more emotional days or that I won't have any more issues but I'm feeling like I might be ok. I think I probably had a dumping episode and that scares me because I think I drank too much protein drink at one half hour sitting (6 oz). I suddenly had diarrhea and didn't make it to the toilet before it started. I pray that this is not going to be a normal thing cuz I won't accept that but I feel like If I really …
