I just recently found out that there is a surgical procedure that might be helpful for those of us who have a hiatal hernia and GERD after the sleeve to repair the problem without having to convert to an RNY. It is called "Cardiopexy with Ligamentum Teres" (basically they wrap part of a ligament from your liver around the esophagus to reinforce the lower esophageal sphincter) Here is a recent article that discusses this technique if any of you want to show it to your doctor and get their thoughts. https://www.americanjournalofsurgery.com/article/S0002-9610(20)30814-X/fulltext#gr2 And here is a video of a surgery performing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_SbDq…

Im just thinking of food constantly! i don’t eat large amounts of course, i have good restriction but i eat small amounts of different things frequently. i don’t feel I’ve fixed my relationship with food, i still am infatuated with food. I don’t know how to fix this. i don’t just eat for sustenance, i eat because i enjoy food. i feel like this destines me to fail!! And i don’t know how to fix it. My weight loss is good but i know it won’t stay that way if i can’t fix this.

Hi all, I am working my way through my appointments to get my surgery. I am planning on the gastric sleeve as the bypass concerns me about internal hernia and malabsorption issues. I think the sleeve is the best choice for me, but I am concerned about chances that GERD will happen and I will be forced to get a revision to a bypass anyways. Have a lot of people had this issue? I am also worried about some horror stories I have read where people can't eat or keep food down or even eat. Are there a lot of situations like this? I'm probably overthinking a bit, but I know this is not reversible and I want to make sure I weigh all my options. Thanks for any help.

Hi all, Just wanted to thank you wonderful people for your support and wisdom over the last 9 months. I've lost 100lbs as of today. My weight loss is really slowing down now but I'm so happy with where I am that anything more will just be the icing on the cake.

Yesterday was 29 days since my surgery and the first time I did something more than just going to the store. I went to a baseball game with my kids... WOW I was not ready for that. I felt terrible the entire time. Tired, sore, almost felt like I was going to pass out at times. I defiantly over did it. But I didn't want to deprive my kids of going to do something... Should I feel so bad a month after surgery? Im nervous now to do anything else like this... Any good ideas of what I could have eaten there to maybe get my energy up ? Everything I seen was fried and I couldn't bring anything into the stadium. I hope It gets better because I can't feel this way…

Anyone else? I napped 2 hours yesterday and then slept at least 12 hours last night. I want to start regular walks but I can barely walk 15 minutes right now. I’m on full liquids. Does it get better once you hit purée? Any tips?

How long did it take for your blood sugar to go below 100 at morning fasting? I had my blood work done today. My regular dr is also testing me for the antibodies to see if I could be type 1 diabetic because autoimmune runs in my family. (My mom got type 1 at 75 years old just last year) my sugar is still running around 150 in the mornings. I'm keeping positive thoughts that it is just type 2 and will eventually go down to a normal level.

Scheduled to show up for my gastric sleeve today at 11:30. I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be, but there's still time for that to change! Pre op Liver shrink wasn't so bad. But sticking to clear liquids only at the end (and I did) was a little tough while cooking for my family. Mag citrate was (and still is unfortunately) and adventure. But, I'm down 16 pounds from highest point now thanks to the pre op diet and can't wait to see what the next month brings. I have loads of trust in my surgeon however we all know the unexpected can happen no matter how rare and unlikely. Kind thoughts/prayers/positive energy welcome.

Hi I have been having nonreactive hypoglycemia at least I believe so. I will eat protein without carbs and immediately drops in less than an hour. The lowest I have dropped is 52 but I have needed to go to the hospital to get sugar IVS. I am not previously diabetic but I occasionally have had issues with low blood sugar in the past. My surgery was on June 17 so I don't know what my options are in dealing with this. The hospital suggested I meet with an endocrinologist any ideas?

i bought new clothes about a month and a half ago for my new job. they fit perfect. (pants, belt) Last night i noticed my pants where falling below the waist line which is not good because i carry a firearm for my job and it was sagging quite a bit and my belt was on its last hole and i could not keep it secured on my waist the way i like it. So time for new pants and a new belt. YAY lmao. lets keep this train going.

Good morning! How are you doing with your pre-op liver shrinking diets? I started mine a day early, I was so excited. (Yes, I'm a wierdo.) So today is officially day 7 for me! I have lost just shy of 10lbs, and managed to not cheat. I won't say it is easy, since I gave up Diet Coke after almost 30 years, and I am working on weaning off caffeine, which is my biggest hurdle. I go for my pre-op testing on Wednesday and then it's just shy of a week until surgery day, YAY! So what are your accomplishments and struggles so far?

Greetings! I just had my first surgical consult and am working my way toward an October 2022 surgery. I want this to truly be a success, so before a knife touches me I want to get in a better place in my own head and face some of the things which got me to this state of super morbid obesity. Over the past few months I have worked hard to work on my issues with food. I have issues with emotional and binge eating, eating too much fast food, too much processed food and too much sugar. I have used a lot of techniques. Always shifting to try to beat take care of me. Some things I have done include mental health journaling, making no foods “bad” or off lim…

Hi guys! I’m new here and I just had my surgery on 5/26/22. I’ve been overweight for the majority of my life, and I’ve been eager to start this journey by getting to know others who have done the same. My dad got gastric bypass and was able to keep the weight off, but he got it done a long time ago. So his advice is a little outdated. One thing I’ve noticed is that people keep emphasizing how good I’ll look once I lose weight. And it kinda sucks bc I didn’t do this for that. Sure, it helps. But I did it because I want to be healthier. Rambling aside, the only issues I have right now are maintaining my fluids and protein. And the gas. How was everyone else’s first co…

Hi Everyi e me again with another stall question. So for the past 3-4 months I have been at a stall. I keep gaining and losing the same 1-2 pounds. I have 20 more pounds to go to reach the doctor’s weight loss goal. I will be one year August 16. I also changed my exercise routine. My eating changed also as I am eating more foods as opposed to drinking my protein. Is this normal?

I'm here to tell you all how to cheat Not that you need to know this. I had a family dinner last weekend in a fancy restaurant that only does a 7 course set tasting menu. I have panicked for weeks about this because none of my family know I've had surgery and I don't want them to (long story featuring lifelong judgementalness, LOL - I know that's not an actual word). I had hatched all sorts of plans where I hid food under other overhanging food, dropped it on the floor, and put it onto other people's plates when they weren't looking. Anyway - turns out I worried for no reason - all you have to do to cheat on your pouch is to reverse the rules you were given. So…

Hello this is my first post. I wanted to try to get a better understanding as to what is possibly going on. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on the 24th Jan of this year the first 5 weeks i lost a lot of weight fast, 20kg. Now i'm at a stand still the past 2 weeks i'm bobbing up and down 1/2 kg. i'm now down to 146 kg. I have no access to a dietitian until 16th May so i can't ask whats going on. I was at my local GP on Friday to get a blood test ordered as i have anemia on and off since surgery i felt like rubbish no energy, tired all the time and it's an effort to get out the front door. I'm suppose to be making all these fantastic changes exercising and honestly i just d…

Hey y’all. I scheduled to have my surgery Wednesday. I’ve done great on my 10 day pre op diet. But it seems the closer I get to THE DAY, the more I’m trying to talk myself out of going through with it. What if I’m making a mistake and I don’t recover well? What if I can never enjoy food with my husband again? What if I’m wasting money that could be spent else where? Did anyone else experience this before their procedure?

I was prescribed Pantoprazole before surgery (after my endoscopy) and after my VSG for 30 days. I was advised I will probably not need it 30 days after my VSG but I beg to differ. I forgot to take it one day before work and boy did I feel the acid bubbling. Any suggestions on the best OTC acid blockers - just in case they do not refill my prescription - just thinking ahead. Thanks

Hi People, I had a gastric sleeve done exactly a week ago and I still haven’t pooped! ? I’m not sure there is anything to poop as I spent the first 5 days vomiting a lot. I was in hospital till yesterday and they tried a Microlax on me but we only got bubbles. ? How long did it take you to get your bowel moving again? Any suggestions that won’t make me feel nauseous again?

Has anyone tried the new GENEPRO, 3rd generation, sold in the orange canister? I was disappointed the old one (sold in white bags) is gone, as it was the only unflavored Protein Powder I couldn’t taste nor smell. Others make me nauseous. I read bad reviews of the new formula on Amazonso wanted to see if anyone here has experience with it. Thanks! Edit: upon reading the fine print, the new version has a larger scoop and only a third of the protein of the old version. Not just bad volume wise (yuck), but also nutritionally and pricewise. Looks like I will need to find the old version or use a different brand from now on.

Ugh my first bad eating day. I am just under 2 months out I’ve been cleared for everything except a small handful of things like steak. ive tolerated things fine, everything is good. my uncle made some salsa and i had a couple chips and salsa and i was a gonner i couldnt get enough! I could only eat like 3 chips with salsa at a time. But throughout the day i kept going back for 3 more. it was so good. i didn’t actually eat any real food today. i had my two protein drinks i feel guilty and im still thinking about that salsa. i wish id gotten some protein chips instead ? im not here for any real reason but to vent. ive got to get so…

I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I’d lose weight and then boomerang right back. I recently had a baby, and I just cannot get over the hump. I am terrified that I am not going to be able to play with my children because I get so tired and worn out doing every day things. My concern, however, is that I won’t qualify for gastric sleeve surgery. My BMI is 37. I had high blood pressure but only during pregnancy. I have evidence of apnea as recorded on a sleep study, but it wasn’t bad enough for intervention. No diabetes. I do have joint pain, but no RA or anything like that. It’s miserable because I’m miserable but not enough for the doctor’s standards. Has …

I had the sleeve done in July of 2014 and the first 2 years were great. Lost 85lbs and kept it off, reflux was gone, diabetes gone, hbp gone. I went from 10-15 pills a day down to 2. After 2 years I started noticing reflux issues coming back and had to have my gall bladder removed. I have slowly started gaining some of the weight back and my craving for sugar is ridiculous...mainly my fault. In the process of trying to reset my pouch right now and trying to curb the sugar cravings by reducing my carbs. My main concern now is my dental health. For the last 2 years my teeth have been falling apart. They keep breaking, the cavities are ridiculous. I’ve had my b…

I’ve committed to getting gastric sleeve in April but I am barely 30 BMI. My logic is that I can pack a few pounds on ( who’s kidding- I love to eat and could easily eat to gain forever) but I’m starting to struggle mentally and I do some extreme exercise so burn through calories on occasion. Feeling like I’m almost “sport eating” when I’m not hungry because I want to make sure I don’t get down there only to be turned around for BMI under 30. I also would love to do a proper liver shrinking pre op diet without risking going under 30 BMI so right now enjoying some indulgence to put me well into qualifying range. Am I nuts? No I don’t think so, I am doing this because I w…

I'm just a few days away from getting to finally eat food, ?. So what do y'all recommend? I know I can have scrambled eggs, can tuna, can chicken and refried beans. I'm so over this liquid diet and I'm ready to plan a meal lol. Also, right now I can drink my weight in liquids. Will eating be different? Will I get fuller faster? I'm just trying to get a idea of how I'm might feel after actually eating.

Ok. I had my 4 week check up (via phone call). I told my surgeon that I didn't feel like my weight loss was going good. He agreed that it's not as good as it should be. After talking with him. I realize I'm not getting in my protein. I've been so focused on eating 4oz of protein. I wasn't thinking of getting 60g of protein a day ?♀️ What do y'all eat to get the full amount in? The shakes are making me nauseous now. I'm still on soft foods. So stuff like 2 eggs only give me 12g of protein. 4oz Refried beans only give me 6g. Im not sure how to get the protein in with out over eating. This is so confusing to me. Im a picky eater so this makes it even harder for m…

I drank a few sips of ice tea and vodka and now I feel like there a lump in my throat and my stomach hurts! I REGRET THIS Surgery so much... why did I do this I wasn't huge the scale said that but I had a flat stomach big legs, no HBP, no Diabetes, just IBD, AND GERD! WHY I have no identity now. Eating out, at home, drinking gave me so much pleasure. I feel so stupid. I can't even eat more than 2 bites, I don't want this anymore. I even quit my job. I hate it here! My throat hurts so weird

So just about 10 weeks post op. No issues at all. No pain, I have had zero issues with any foods i have tried, zero issues with any drinks i have had. scars have healed up very nice, Vitamin intake has been good. only causes nausea once in a while. still taking medication for at least a year to prevent gall stones. Heart burn has been zero after the first couple weeks (which was very bad) My daily meals typically consist of either a chicken egg or 2 quail eggs with onions, banana peppers and cheese (Or if i am not feeling like food, i have a core power protein shake) Lunch typically either grilled chicken or tuna Dinner for most days i have gr…

Hi! I've been reading through the forums and I've learned so much. I'm so excited/nervous as I start the pre-op diet today. I have to do 10 days of liquids, which I'm prepared for but still incredibly nervous. I'm really ready to just pay my money and get the surgery over with before I back out. I'm ready to start the next chapter of my journey. I'm so thankful for my husband who is incredibly supportive. I think my biggest fear is still being unhappy with myself after surgery.
