Protein HELP

Ok. I had my 4 week check up (via phone call). I told my surgeon that I didn't feel like my weight loss was going good. He agreed that it's not as good as it should be. After talking with him. I realize I'm not getting in my protein. I've been so focused on eating 4oz of protein. I wasn't thinking of getting 60g of protein a day ?‍♀️ What do y'all eat to get the full amount in? The shakes are making me nauseous now. I'm still on soft foods. So stuff like 2 eggs only give me 12g of protein. 4oz Refried beans only give me 6g. Im not sure how to get the protein in with out over eating. This is so confusing to me. Im a picky eater so this makes it even harder for me.

Protein powder is the worst. I'm still in pureed stage so I've been buying Fairlife shakes; expensive but they taste good and are 30 grams each. I figure it's an investment until I can eat more foo

Skyr, a type of yogurt, this has been my go to protein food item and has been for the last 6 months being vegetarian and all. I don't consume protein powders or shakes and get most of my protein from

I used Isopure unflavored powder and mixed it in Lipton Cup O Soup Cream of Chicken flavor. Couldn't taste the protein powder and it tasted good.

I tried making Protein Jello with unflavored Isopure. I didn't like it and I'm still pre op, so I can't imagine liking it post op. How much Protein Powder do you add to a box of jello? Maybe I added too much...

With jello I use protein water! I can’t drink it plain but in the jello it just gives it a zing.

On my plan I can't have beef or pork for a year?. I'll start adding tuna in to my diet more. It's not something I love because I'm don't like fish. (Very picky eater)

Oh my gracious no beef or pork for a year??? I would have been struggling. I eat them a lot. I wonder what the reason is?? What about trying some plant based protein options. Besides beans what about vegetarian meat substitutes?

This may be a good opportunity to broaden your food preferences as your taste buds can be a bit off. Things you didn’t like before may be more palatable & you may find you enjoy them more now. Worth a shot.

I hated fish too I didn't even like the smell. But I found that cod is good and not fishy tuna is more fishy. It will really take on the flavor of your seasoning.

Wow !! did they say why ? Mince and eye fillet Steak was my saviour in the early days. Can you have chicken ?

I have trouble with protein shakes being too sweet post-surgery. My savior is now my Nespresso machine!! I put ice in a glass, shake in some cinnamon, brew a decaf espresso (or 2!) into the glass, and then pour the vanilla Premier Protein shake (30 g of protein!!) on top. The coffee really cuts down the sweetness and it is delicious! Of course, you could use whatever flavor you like best, but the vanilla is really nice with the espresso.

Honestly I haven't asked why. Yes I can have chicken and turkey.

Do the shakes taste too sweet post surgery? That was my issue and I found that premiere protein clear drinks weren’t as sweet. Also once you are allowed caffeine their caffe latte is so delicious I still have one a day at 15 months out.

I dont think my plan is that far out with beef and honestly at 3 weeks out I have tried ground beef and did not have any trouble with it. Now that being said it was probably a teaspoon and a half only. I dont want to rock the boat lol

Forgot to mention, I cant seem to stomach the premier protein anymore too sweet. I can tolerate Fairlife but prefer the whey protein isolate zero creamy vanilla powder. That is alot better for me as far as getting past the sweetness. I do and have bought the ratio protein yogurt....those things pack a powerful 20-25g of protein. It is thicker tho so as long as you can tolerate that it should be good. I also buy the keto protein of the same brand not as much protein but still a decent amount. Cod, Tilapia and Mahi Mahi fish are good (no strong fishy taste) and dont forget you may hate fish before surgery but after you may like it. I eat mine (after cooking) with fresh mild pico de gallo. I actually eat more fish now than I did in the past and I have put the fish on a small handful of baby spinach.

Quest chips = 19-20g Protein per bag (140 cal), Clear Premier Protein fruit punch = 20g protein (90 cal), Unjury pre-made Protein Shakes = 20g protein (110 cal). You just have to make sure you’re spacing out your protein enough so your body can actually absorb it all.
I try to make sure I have a variety on hand with me - at least 3 per day. I need the variety so as to not get bored with it. Any other protein consumed is just a bonus.

A serving of Fage 0% has 18g protein. I have to be intentional with my protein in order to get it in - we all do.

Yes they are too sweet. I've tried it with coffee but right now I don't drink a lot of coffee. I guess I just don't enjoy it anymore ??‍♀️

Yea our tastes change its really weird. Some people say the fairlife shakes are not as sweet to them. I never tried them but I suggest going to gas stations and trying what they have so you can buy individual servings instead of a whole case you won’t drink.

im 7 mos out and still use the fairlife shakes as my replacement. i agree its sn investment till you can eat more, but thats my issue. It causes too much pain.
