Food Aversions After Surgery
It’s funny how my old favorites are now my aversions. Eggs, tuna, fries, meats, broccoli, pasta.

Curious About Post-Op Days
The first two weeks I was achy, gassy, and slow moving. The binder helped a lot. I set a timer and sipped liquids slowly from small 1oz cups. The liquid goals seemed impossible to reach at first. I walked as much as I could several times a day albeit very slowly. Lived in fear of constipation but miralax daily helped as did a 1oz swig of prune juice. As I drifted off to sleep I would think of the non liquid foods I would have eventually like fish, meats, and eggs in a dreamy over the rainbow way which is humorous now as now much later I much prefer plant based proteins. Good luck take it one day at a day and be gentle with yourself.

5 months post op hair loss
I just chopped my hair off from a sassy Bob to a sassy pixie cut. The hair loss is getting on my nerves. I said I wouldn’t mind as my pre-surgery hair was so thick. But yuck. I’m tired of it. ?

What made you decide to have a WLS?
My reasons are similar to many listed here. Knee pain, so many meds for high blood pressure and diabetes. When my doc suggested it I enthusiastically said YES

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Buying a pair of pants according to my measurements. Getting the pants home and looking at them and thinking these will never fit. Trying them on. Shocked that they fit. I would fit into those school desks now. There was one building at school with the worst desks that were attached to the floor. I suffered in those classes!

What Health Changes have you seen?
My diabetes numbers have fallen dramatically. Before surgery my highest a1c was 9.5 and now it’s 5.9. My daily blood glucose numbers are in the 90-110 range. No more snoring! No more knee or ankle pain. Blood pressure has improved. Medications have been stopped or cut. I feel great.

My First Binge :(
I had my first dumping experience yesterday. I got some refried beans at the taqueria. 1/2 cup and ooof! So nauseous and I had to go lay down with a cool washcloth on my forehead until it passed.

To count or not to count (calories)
Whenever I haven’t tracked food or weight then I’ve crept up in my numbers. Im going to keep tracking to my goal and beyond. I used to have a travel heavy job and my go to was those little packs of nuts. And those awful clif bars but I don’t recommend those!

May Surgery Buddies
I posted some good palatable recipes from my Complete Bariatric Cookbook and Meal Plan by Megan Moore on the foods thread. I just finished the Green Machine Shake made with green apple, spinach, avocado, and stuff and thank goodness for a break in the sweetness. How ironic that lots of sweets got me to my highest weight and now all the sweet flavors are making me wretch. I had a bit of bleeding from the biggest incision site yesterday when I woke up so I contacted the doctor. They say it’s normal when that adhesive stuff starts to wear away. Did anyone else experience this?

May 2022 Surgeries
May 16th surgery. 3 weeks post op. Yesterday where the biggest incision is the adhesive they put over the area is coming off and it’s bleeding a bit. I called the doctor and they say it’s normal. But it’s creepy to me. I covered it with gauze sponge like advised and put my binder back on. I haven’t checked it today yet.

Not sweet full liquid options!
The book is by Megan Moore. I bought it before surgery and looked it over but didn’t really use it until I was at wits end with those horrible sweet protein shakes.

Not sweet full liquid options!
I found this recipe in complete bariatric cookbook and meal plan. Thank goodness because I can’t do those sweet shakes no mo. Green Machine Protein Shake. It’s lightly tart and tangy. I taste the green apple essence and it’s creamy. Yum!
