Taking/swallowing pills pain

Recommended Posts

Hi,hope all is well.

I am new to group and just had surgery 7/26 and find it hard to swallow big pills they prescribed. I feel like everything only going down right side of throat, if that makes sense?

some surgeons have you crush pills, but fortunately, mine was OK with me swallowing small pills right away (anything the size of a pencil eraser or smaller). I had to wait two or three weeks to manage bigger pills. One of them they said I could hold off on for a couple of weeks, so I did. The other I cut in half (I bought a pill cutter at a pharmacy), so I was able to take it (although not all pills can be cut in half - well, *physically* they can be, but you're not supposed to do it). Just check with your clinic and see what they suggest

Definitely check if you can cut or crush what you have been prescribed, but I see you’re only four days out and may also have some soreness remaining from the tube down your throat during surgery. What you describe about only feeling it on the right side is exactly how I felt after my endoscopy and it cleared up after a few days. Good luck!

I opened up my capsules and I crushed my other pills for the first 2 weeks. My stomach was EXTREMELY sensitive for a few weeks after surgery. Around week 3 I was able to take everything without opening or crushing anything, but I had to take only 2 or 3 pills at a time. By week 4 I could take all my pills at once again. So since you're only 4 days out, it makes perfect sense that you're having pain taking pills. You're still recovering from major surgery and your stomach needs time to heal.

      Pre-op Liquid Diet - Day 1
Had my morning cup of 8 oz Regular Orange Juice. I am ready!!! I did have 3 bites of my fiance's cheesecake last night for dinner. It was so yummy but with my former sleeve it didn't allow me any more bites.

It's Saturday!!! My fiance and I are out doing yard work and I made the mistake of not staying hydrated before going out so now my body is shaking and weak. I have my pre-op appointment Tuesday, the 2nd and I am trying my hardest to lose another 2 lbs by then.
