After a long journey of medical tests, visits with a psychologist and nutritionist my surgery has been scheduled for July 16, 2012. I still need to attend a pre-op class and see the surgeon a few days before the surgery. The date is coming up fast and I'm getting nervous and excited. I've had lots of surgeries in the past and pain relief wasn't an issue afterwards because I would just get a prescription for pain meds after I was discharged. But, how do you take Percocet or Vicodin pills after a sleeve? Can any one tell me what meds were prescribed for pain and how you got them into your new, tiny stomach?

Hi everyone New to the site. Long history of yo yo dieting, pills, plans, yada yada. Never really heavy as a child or teenager. Entering perimenopause (46 now) and it's a lesson in futility to lose and keep it off. The 30 lbs I lose keeps hunting me down, finds me and brings more friends! Completely frustrated. I have a 2 1/2 year old grand daughter now and I want to have the energy to continue to enjoy our times together. In addition to being heavy (okay, obese according to BMI chart), I was born with congenital hip dysplasia and now I need a hip replacement (putting off as long as possible). I am hoping lowering my weight will help with delaying this. I am not try…

Hello :] My name is Kaylee, I am 20 years old and am 9 days post op from my RNY gastric bypass. My heaviest recorded weight was 276lbs and my weight before surgery was 263lbs and as of today I weigh 252lbs. Still in a decent amount of pain and am relying on my pain killer every 4-6 hrs, but am finally able to walk around a bit without holding my left side (my most painful incision) Required to consume a minimum of 80g/protein and 64oz/fluid a day, is that similar to your experience? If I didn't drink 2 Protein shakes a day (20g/protein each) I'd never make that protein quota. Can't wait to get off pureed foods, but am thankful for eggs and sugar free popsicles :] Ca…

Hello there...I've just received my phone call today that I've been approved by my insurance for the surgery. While I've been on this journey for months, I'm now getting a little anxious. I figured the best way to help myself through was to take a look at some success stories and came across this group. I'd be very appreciative of any feedback, comments, or anything else.

I was talking to my baby brother today and was telling him that I had decided to go the lapband if I can. I told him he really should look into it. He weighs about 400 lbs. He said his doctor was very much against it. He told him that 1 out of every 250 people die from the surgery. I answered that that couldn't be right as both my cardiologist and my GYN are advocates and are supporting my decision whole heartedly. They wouldn't have recommended it if it wasn't safe. I guess I will just have to be the example for him. If my cardiologist, who first recommended it, feels that it is safe despite my having Aterial Defibulation then I'm not going to worry about it. Beside…

Hello everyone! I am a bit tired here, so please excuse any major problems with what I write. My surgery was this morning and I happened upon this group after I got home. I am so excited now, with people just like me that I can ask all sorts of questions to. Thank you for this chance. I will be navigating my way around so please excuse me if I ask some questions that others have already asked and has been answered. Thank you!

Hi. I'm from Macon area and attended a seminar today and really think this Lapland route is for me but dread facing surgery again. Gallbladder surgery last year caused me many very severe complications and I worry about yet another abdominal surgery. Anyone faced lapband surgery within a year of gallbladder, pancreas, and liver surgery from gallstones? Any bad side affects? Recovery reasonable? Quite worried that this will keep me down and out for long recovery. Thanks.

How many have had their bands for 10 years or more? Just remembered another comment from a doctor. He said that the band worked fine for some people but most people gained their weight back after about 10 years. Since I don't personally know anyone with a band I'm curious about his statement. Fact or misinformation? Deb Sorry to ask these questions but that is a lot of money when you are on a limited income and I don't need something that will quit working after a few years and needs to be replaced.

Its started and I was really hoping to be one of the lucky ones....lol. But I noticed MANY strands all over my clothes, brush, drain.....I wouldn't be so concerned if my hair wasn't already thin. So after reading some blogs I ran out and bought the most promising talked about items,......Nioxin hair care, biotin tabs (obviously my chewy bites aren't helping) and silica tabs. I also increased my protein.....side my surgeon recommended 60 and others say 80 figured it couldn't hurt. Does anyone have any other suggestions that helped them? Thanks

Hello I am a 38 year old man. I have always been overweight even as a kid. Some due to a slow metabolism but mostly because I like food way too much. I have never had any lasting success with dieting either. My ex wife had gastric bypass 2 years before she left me. We both couldn't afford the surgery and she was heavier than me and it always bothered her more than me so we agreed she would have the surgery and I would try to lose weight on my own. She lost 200 lbs and I didn't do very well. She of course changed since she had always been big and now she was getting lots of attention. She left me so she could live as she put it. So I am no stranger to bariatric surg…

My Journey began in November of 2011 when I decided on the RNY procedure. I had to attend 6 months of dietician appointments for my insurance approval and had my surgical consult 6/13/12. I was set on RNY but then my surgeon was sort of leaning towards the sleeve for me. I initially said no because I hadn’t researched the sleeve at all. After leaving his office, I spent the next 2 days researching the sleeve and then had a change of heart. I am scheduled for surgery on 6/28/12 and have decided to go with VSG, mostly thanks to this forum and all of the positive things you all have to say about the sleeve. I started my 10 day liquid diet yesterday and feel like I am g…

I had my lapband surgery this past Thursday, 6/14/12. It has definately been an adventure already! I am here to have a place to ask questions. I have found myself wondering lately if certain thing are "normal." I am already losing weight, so I am excited about that. I just want to make sure I make the most of my new belly and take care Of It well!

Hi all! I'm Erica. I have not been banded yet. I'm researching the procedure to determine if it's something I want to do. That's why I'm here! I'm married with 3 boys. I've been overweight since I was a teenager. I've tried to do it on my own. I've lost some, but I gain it back. I have diabetes and arthritis in my knees...and I'm tired of all of that. So here I am...to learn about this. I look forward to chatting with you all.

I had my surgery on June 5th & had my 2 week post-op dr. visit yesterday. I have lost 25 lbs so far, I almost cried when I found out because I was so happy. I don't have a scale at home so the number was a total surprise. Other than some pain at the incision sites, I have had no other issues. I totally expected to feel nausea or feel tired but none of that has happened. This was the best thing I ever did for myself. I am doing lots of walking, so off I go for another walk!

Hi everyone! I am new here.... So trying to get used to navigating.... My name is Jenn and I am 29 years old. I had gastric bypass surgery in Buffalo NY on May 8 2008..... So just a little over 4 years ago. I lost 200lbs in all, but had a slight bounce back...... So my current totally weight loss is 170lbs. Hola everyone!! I am 28 5'4 and 260 pounds. I am still trying to decide what operation is better the RNY or sleeve. My goal is to get to 120 and I have seen a lot of people reach goal faster with the RNY however so many people have said that the RNY doesn't work after the first 2 years. Needless to say I am confused. I am willing and wanting to work out before and after my operation and I truly am excited to change my life. Oh another thing is that I've heard if you have the RNY you get hungry more often and after the fist 6 months you get full on hunger back. Is this true and can someone give me some insight? Thanks guys.

I have decided to stop worrying about the numbets on my scale. I love my scale when the numbers go down, but hate it when the numbers do not move or go up. We all know what this is like. However, I am super excited because I am losing inches!! The jeans I bought 3 weeks ago are getting baggy! I wish I was under 200(207.4 currently), but I'll take inches lost over a number on the scale any day! Take it from me folks, those scale numbers do not mean a whole lot.

Hello everyone my name is Steven and I am 52 originally from NY and now living here in Northern Virginia since 2001. My weight-loss journey is similar to many of yours as well. In my youth I was "Stocky" and I have progressed to obese by definition though I hide much of my weight and people never guess I am over 200 pounds. Like most here I have tried with limited success every type of diet and fad, skipped over a few like the growth hormone and starvation diet. Slim Fast for sure, Weight Watchers, Nutri System (several times) and always stayed with it for a short while, once I lost 26 pounds and kept it off about a year and a half. In the past 11 years I have…

Hello I am 56 years old and I am doing this for me. I know that it will be a complete life change. I am worth it. I have been on just about every diet/food plan and lost and gained many pounds in the past 16 years. I have not always been obese. I weighed 108 lbs when I graduated from high school and even lost weight when pregnant with both of my children and only gained back 10 lbs with the first child and 11 lbs with my second. The weight just crept up on me. After my first marriage ended, I gained 70 pounds, then joined weight watchers and lost it. Then I got married again. That lasted 4 years and I didn't immediately gain weight, however, a few years later I…

Well it is officially 2 weeks since surgery. I am doing good. Had a problem with ripping my mucsle-OUCH but other than that its been good. I have no regrets. I don't get very hungry. My stomach growls and I know I need to eat. I get really tired. Like today, came home from work and said I was going to take a nap. I slept from 3:30 to 7PM!!!!!!! Dang!!!! B12 is not working....does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get some energy? My scale said 265. So that means that I have lost 18 pounds since my surgery. I am not going to focus on this damn scale so much. I have read so many posts where people are obsessed with the scale. I do not want to be obsessed with the…

The past 2 weeks have been so hard! I haven't had surgery yet it isn't until september or october but I am trying to stay on track with weight loss and working out and I've been cheating several times ....like last night I went out and got a huge ice cream Sunday and felt horrible afterwards. I feel like a failure. My husband has been laid off here and there for about 2 to 3 days a week for the past 2 months and it has been very stressful. I decided to let my gym membership go because I couldn't afford to pay for it anymore. I have a horrible problem with binge eating. I use to be bullemic (sp) a long time ago and every now and then I binge eat and want to do it again...o…

Hi VSGers! First of all I've been here a little while but haven't properly introduced myself or told my story. I've been overweight my whole life, struggled with dieting. I've been over 300lbs since I was a teenager which was tough. I've looked into WLS on and off since I was a teenager but never went through with it- which I am glad for because the sleeve wasn't an option when I was looking into it and I'm sure this is the procedure for me! So I finally had my consult today- I got the appointment back in April but there was a long wait. Everything went great and things are moving along fast! I have a bunch of appointments scheduled already- Nutristionist this Friday (1 o…
