Hey y'all! I've in finally got the junk to join y'all in your chatters!! Cliff note verison of my story. I've been thinking about WLS for February 2012 on and off, until May 2012 when I started to slowly research things. Search out websites, books, and everything. So with the support of my handsome hubby we went to an info session at MUSC, Tuesday June 5. Asked him which surgery he liked the best. He was leaning told the vertical sleeve and so was I. But I was teetering on the edge of RNY or Sleeve. So I turn in my paperwork, get the ball rolling on that end. I got a call yesterday, June 7, saying they got my paper work and were going to pass it. And today I spok…

Yaaayy! I'm so excited! Finally heard back from dr office today (after being impatient, it's just been two days) and my insurance covers the surgery. I have to see a nutritionist and have a psych eval for when they approve it. And criteria bmi >35 with one or more co morbidity! My bmi is 38.4 and I have hypertension, so I hope this process goes fast! And I have a scheduled surgery date by July.

Hi everyone! Just joined the group and I'm so excited to be part of such a wonderful community! I am pre-surgery, hoping to have my sleeve this summer. I am currently finishing up all my "pre-reqs" and working on losing the 5% of my weight that the MD requires. I am getting very excited to get it done! My story is probably similar to a lot of yours. I was thin until college. My "freshman 15" was more like a freshman 50 and it just went up from there until I was 100 pounds overweight. I have tried every diet I know of, including a liquid diet I did about 6 years ago. I lost 100 pounds then and was so happy! I thought it was for life, but you know the ending to…

Hello everyone. I am a new user, however, I have been reading the posts for a couple of weeks now. I, like some, have went back and forth with whether or not to undergo surgery for weight loss. After a visit to my doctor's office (I avoided him for a whole year), and finding that I was borderline diabetic and had hypertension, along with tipping the scales at 346 pounds, I decided enough was enough. I was sleeved on 4/23/12. Since I started my journey, I have lost 51 pounds My goal is 180-190 pounds, given I am 5'11". I am still struggling with my protein intake and I'm just incorporating semi solid foods into my diet. I realize I needed support from those who ha…

Hey all, Been lurking for about a week, had some issues creating an account, but that finally over and I'm ready to get started. (a little background about me first) I've had weight issues all my life, I'm a male, currently 21, and if i had to guess weight i'd say around 450+. Ive tried many types of diets, most of the times it will work until about 20 lbs, then i start gaining again. I currently have 2 jobs, and spend most of my extra time working with music (I'm a musician), but am looking forward to putting in the time towards a better me. I've not yet consulted with a doctor, to be honest, my current doctor has ruined my view of most doctors. If there is anyone…

hi fellow sleevers Awful awful awful I had surgery recently (NSV)taking my important medicine daily, the dosage should have been adjusted due to weight loss of 65 lbs. Spoke w/dr. prior to surgery, he said all would be fine. He was aware of WLS, apparently not aware of how much i had lost. Day after surgery, i started having delusions. They lasted about 4 days, subsiding each day. My medicine levels were WAY too high for my new weight, causing the problem. (had nothing to do with anesthesia). It was really terrible. Due to the fact that my dr. did not take into effect the amount of weight loss i had, it conflicted with my other med., causing these terribl…

My husband is in a wheelchair so doing things around the house was hard and lets just say being home was very stressfull to say the least. There was no one to go walk with or go to the gym and for some reason i really dont like doing things alone )Food wise At first my husband was very supportive emotionally which was great. I have struggled with my weight for mot of my life. I learned how to cope with life and issues by eating junk food. It was the only stable steady thing in my life. My mother died from cancer when i was 4 and my father passed a year later by ways of his own hands. At the time I didn't understand, but as i grew older, i missed them and couldn't process why I had to be the one little girl without parents in my school. So i ate. Candy, ice cream, cake, cookies, chips, etc. I started dieting when I was about 12. I weighed about 180 pounds. I tried the typical diets like weight watchers and those 3 days of starvation diets. Nothing ever worked. By the time I was a senior in hig…

Hi Everyone! I'm new to this site. I was actually told about this site by a person (who is now a 'band buddy') who was attending my behavioral management class (that was required by BC/BS IL). I found this past Monday (June 4, 2012) that I was approved for surgery. And I'm ecstatic!!!! My concern: toning once the procedure is done. I know the weightloss is 'low' compared to bypass...about 1-2 pounds a week. I'm still concerned about excess skin/saggy skin. Does anyone know of any simple toning exercises that will help minimize the sag (I keep thinking about the movie 'Click' when Adam Sandler lost all that weight due to illness and he was playing with his belly f…

Ok, so I go to my surgeon's support group and last night someone said something that struck me emotionally. A lady was talking about how she wants the sleeve and her husband, who was with her, was against it. After she was done talking another lady, who also didn't have the sleeve yet, said ".... but you're not that big". Seriously???? We're at a sleeve support group and you bring that out??? Yes, the lady who said that was larger than the one with the unsupportive husband, and I think that maybe this lady was just trying to make the other feel better (compliment??), but I got so emotional and had to call the lady out on what she said. I was told alot by friends and fam…

Although I suppose, given where I am, I could say the journey of a thousand years. Hi there, My name is Chantel, and I am very fat. And yes, I've tried dieting. And very recently, I came to the realization that I needed more help. Funnily enough, that realization came to me the day before I called my endocrinologist's office to cancel my next appointment (not only is she rather a not-great bedside manner kind of lady, but she's in a really inconvenient place. According to the rating site, there are better doctors closer to me), the receptionist let me know that she had the appointment for me that the endo had referred me for... And in our last appointment, she…

Guess it's normal, but I keep second guessing. I know I want the surgery and don't think the food will be a big deal as I was on Topamax before and it made you forget to eat( I dropped it as it gave me a poor memory and I'd be driving and 30 minutes later not know how I got there). I guess this scares me as it's permanent. Just needed to vent I guess.

i had my sleeve in mid 2010 and lost alo of wieght since i wasnt eating anything. i was literally living on very low calorie liquids, because of the very restrictive nature of my sleeve and the pain i got when i ate. three months ago all of a sudden my sleeve is able to accomodate any type of food in any ammount at any time, i also have hunger pains back and i can eat and eat and eat its soo weird, i only eat healthy food, no bad carbs and very low good carbs, lots of veggies and good Protein (soy, i dont eat meat) and stuff like that, i dont eat sugar or drink sugary stuff often. i started gaining back weight by the day its very frustrating, its like i wont stay thin unl…

I went to my surgeon's office for an educational seminar and for a consultation today, and I am scheduled for surgery for FRIDAY! I have so many feelings all going on at once. I'm not afraid of pain or of recovering--the anaesthesia has me a little worried (I have trouble giving up control to anyone!) but that's why God made sedatives, right? I'm so thrilled that I'll have this surgery over and done with so I don't have time to get anxious which is why I deliberately chose the earliest date. Making the last minute arrangements is a bit of a hassle, but I didn't expect it to be any different. Hopefully we'll be able to get the hospital forms ahead of time so we can…

Just wanted to introduce myself. My long history at weight loss and gain loss is similar to most everyone here. I was divorced 4 years ago after 20 years of marriage. It was the most painful thing I have ever endured. That loss of a family unit was devastating to me. Although he never came out and said it was my weight I always knew in my heart that it was some of the reason. But still I did not try to do anything about it. I am an RN and it was seeing the illness of my obese patients. In addition the difficulty moving them and the ability for them to move themselves not to mention the odor that made me realize this could be me one day. I don't won't to live the last 20…

My story begins nearly 6 years ago when I went to see doctor for routine checkup. My routine checkup turned out not so good, she pretty much told me it strait you made yourself this way by what you eat and lack of exercise. Hearing those words morbidly obese did hurt. She also explained that weightloss surgery would be needed because I wouldn't be able to do it alone, I was enrolled in nutrition class and fitness class which I'd have to do twice a month. I felt bullied I knew I was big but I was content with myself no real health issues. After a few classes I decided this wasn't for me but I did need to change but it had to be on my terms, I quit smoking and drinking sod…
