OMG I can't wait till my surgery! I'm so ready to b a normal size just like everyone else in my family, to b able to sit in a restaurant chair without worrying weather it is sturdy enough to hold me or not, to fly somewhere and not b so uncomfortable because I don't want to take up room from the person beside me. I'm just so sick and tired of being the fat lady!

I start my options class with Kaiser tomorrow. I am excited. I know that I have lost a little weight since my orientation on the 17th, but I am going to weight to update my info until after my weigh-in at my class. I can not wait to be through this class. I also got good news today. After my surgery I will be getting more hours at work because one of the girls is leaving and I will get her position =) I was expecting to hear that news anytime, so I am so excited. Things are finally starting to look up. This also means that I may have to push for a sooner surgery date to make sure that I am healed before she goes. Lets hope my insurance works with me xxfingers crossedxx

I'm only seventeen years old so not many of my friends have accepted my choice of operation and I've not had many people to talk too, especially around my age. Does anyone else struggle mentally? How did you overcome it? Please help x x

I've been reading through the threads, and I think I may be the oldest one here. I'm post-op May 15th and have had some ups and downs, like everyone else. Surgery was a shock. I had GERD for years, as well as an abdominal hernia that was worsening daily. My PCP sent me to gastro. Many tests later, gastro sent me to a surgeon in Pittsburgh. I failed his test, too (manometry). He referred me to Dr. Awais, at Mercy Hospital, also Pittsburgh. This was on a Thursday. Dr. Awais scheduled me for the following Tuesday. He was very upset that I hadn't had surgery earlier. And he was doing the RNY. There was no option with the hernia as large as it was. My weight was 228 and I h…

Was a little bummed it couldnt happen in March, but I have 2 reports to do, so it was a blessing in disguise! lol I will start the dreaded liquid protein diet on the 26th. I hope everyone is doing good!! Thanks for all the support while the insurance process was happening. It was a great thing to be able to have this forum.

  11. Hey, everyone. Ok so, i am new to this. On my 21st birthday, which was June 2, my dad gave me the surprise of a lifetime. he said that he would pay for me to get the lap band if i qualified. I am 5'7" and 230 pounds. i have been overweight practically my whole life. i do not have any major health issues NOW. But i am worried about my future. My dad had gastric bypass done about 7 years ago. He weighed over 500 pounds. Now i believe he is down to 275. He HAD sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and was borderline diabetic. All those problems went away after his surgery. i do not want to have to get to the point of weighing twice what i do now, nor do i want to wait until i ge…

  12. Hi Everyone I am new here and have trolled the site and I am so glad there is a place for my questions. I had a gastric bypass 10 years ago and I am now back up to 280 pounds. I was denied a lap band by Kaiser or any other secondary surgery for that matter. My questions is, I am actually starting work at Healthnet tomorrow and my primary goal has been to have band over bypass. I will have all these choices of their insurance to go with and not really no which one is best from this stand point, weight loss surgery I mean!! If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it. Hi, my name is Shannon. I am also participating in The HeadsUp obesity study though Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, LA. My surgeon is Dr. Andrew Hargroder. I have not always struggled with my weight. In high school and throughout my 20s, I remained between 130-140lbs. After the birth of my third child at age 29, I failed to lose weight. I remained around 195-205lbs. Then it seemed each year, I packed on a few more pounds, in addition to health issues (high blood pressure and acid reflux.) When I was accepted into the study, I was at my highest weight of 254 lbs at 5'3". During the initial phase of the study you are placed on a two week liquid di…

  17. I have my sleeve tomorrow morning. I'm still sorting through my feelings, but I'm glad that the day is finally here! God, I'm tired! Like, bone-butt tired. I woke up at 8am without an alarm. My mother in law is very unwell in hospital, and is not getting better. We had to spend a lot of time sorting through her hospice care options today with her care team, and it was a bit emotional. We had to leave early to get to the surgeon's office to finish up the last of the business end of things for my surgery tomorrow. Then we had to find a grocery store (not easy in this town, lemme tell ya). I'm having surgery in Pontiac, MI by the way. We got a bottle of clove, cardamom, …

My doctor, Dr. Seger, and his team at BMI have helped me significantly through the process, and were so great to me. Last year i had everything done getting ready to make appointment with surgeon and.........my insurance changed and the new insurance did not pay for bypass. I was so devastated. I have type 2 diabetes and high blood pressures. Being over weight doesn't help but i have both very heavy in my family on both sides. All I could think about was the years that the insurance was denying me years of my life with con't diabetes and struggled weight loss. Now we have insurance that does pay for the bypass and I am so excited to say that my next step is to meet with the surgeon.
