Just packed my bag for the hospital. I have to be at the hospital at 8am, so glad that it is so early. This clear liquid diet is a killer and I was afraid I would be waiting around till the afternoon. I was really nervous but I just got off the phone with a friend that I don't see very often, she said "the next time we get together you'll be a skinny Minnie" .... Just the thought of that being a possibility made me very excited!! Still so glad I found this forum a few Weeks ago, I,have learned so much and knew exactly what to put in my hospital bag!!

I will be getting my new sleeve in two weeks! A bit nervous as the surgery will involve undoing my previous Nissen Fundoplication surgery from approximately 6 years ago. My surgeon is being extra cautious and has stated I will be in the hospital with a drain for about 5 to 6 days post op and the surgery will take about 6 hours. I'm also having all kinds of extra imaging tests done. I am wondering if anyone out there has gone through this and what there outcome was afterward? Did it take you longer to recover after the surgery? Do you think you had a harder time with recovery? Any information would be greatly appreciated! My surgery is scheduled for 10/6/11 at Sc…

34yo married and a mother of 2 (14 and 11). i have had a weight problem my whole life but it seemed to have gotten worse once i had my tubes tied. what motivates me to want the surgery is the fact that its had for me to do things with my kids anymore. i am tired of having to take the "fat" seats on rollercoasters or my back hurting so bad i barely make it out of the theme park. I know it's time for me to make a change but what change do i make? My sister and I had our first appointment in April and while she's able to have her surgery in July, I'm having to wait 6 months due to insurance requirements. i thought we would be able to go through this together for support bu…

I'd like to hear from anyone 8 months out or more please. I was sleeved on 12/12! I've lost 58 lbs and have 40 more to go! I have not lost anything for at least a month. So my question is, what can I expect going forward? Is this it? I have done my share of "cheating" and eat about 1200-1300 calories a day, but before my surgery I ate 2500-3000 a day! I am so grateful for this but I want to lose more. So what has your experiences been after 6 months? thanks everyone

Okay! So I want to keep this as short as it possibly can be (not very) so let's get right to it!! Basically I'm 25, a mother of two (6.5 & 3.5). My highest weight was 241 and I'm 5'1" tall. I am a text-book "healthy" person who's fat. I don't smoke, I rarely drink, I had no co-morbidity in addition to the obesity. My blood pressure and cholesterol are both fine. I'm not diabetic or pre-diabetic. The point is that I knew that this health wouldn't last for long and it was time to do something about it once and for all. I started with my initial surgical consult in November 2011. On January 30, 2012, while in Orlando with my family at Disney, I was on my laptop at m…

Hello everyone!!! I am a newbie, I have been thinking of getting this surgery for about 7 months, been doing my research and going over my options and I have decided that the sleeve is for me:) I am so ready for this life changing journey! I was wondering, especially for any self-payers how long did it take for you to get a sugery date after your first inital visit? Or seminar if you attended one?

Thursday I'm going for a WLS information session. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing, but also anxious. I'm very lucky that my insurance covers WLS after the 6-month prep. In fact, where I work I can't throw a stone without hitting someone that's had it, but usually they opt for bypass. My preference is to have an implant as opposed to removing part of my innards. Plus I know a few people that had the bypass and wound up stretching their stomach back after a few years. And I don't want to lose my ability to digest sugar, cuz I'd still like to eat a small piece of cake on my birthday! My breaking point has been the weight gain from a recent pregnancy putting me h…

IM addicted to watching all of those YouTube blogs. They have been very helpful to me. It exciting watching people shrink before your eyes. It's also encouraging to see all the success. I was sleeved on May 14th and I've lost 19 pounds. I'm super excited, but this hasn't been a walk in the park. I started a video blog on YouTube under gacrowder and I think it is going to help keep me accountable. Does anyone else video blog?

My goal is to be obese. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for being healthy but for me I think being “obese” would be healthy. The reason I think this is because I’ve gone from being categorized “super obese” with a BMI of 56.3 to currently being “severely obese” with a BMI of 37. My goal is be just “obese” which would be a BMI of 30-34 and a weight of 229 lbs. I am 53 years old and only remember being less than 200 pounds once in my adult life; I was on Weight Watchers at the time and stayed at that weight for maybe two weeks. I’ve gained and lost hundreds of pounds during my lifetime. During the spring of 2011, at 370 pounds, my knees hurt so badly from arthritis that…

Hello everyone. I'm new to the site and super excited because my first appointment to discuss lap band is 06/13/2012. How long after can I expect my surgery to be scheduled? I'm self pay so I don't have to wait for insurance approvals. Any ideas??

I am just getting started learning about Lap-band surgery. Both my husband and I are over weight and have obesity related health problems. I was wondering if there are any other couples out there who have been banded at about the same time. I am sure I want to have this done but my husband seems to be a little hesitant about the surgery. He has never had a surgical proceedure done before. I would like any advice you have.

Hello All, I started my journey in April 2012, finally got my approval last week and it was a breath of fresh air!! I am now waiting on my surgery date hopefully I will get the call some time this week. I'm getting kind of nervous though. I am 36 years old, when I started the whole process I was 217 and 5'1 with a small frame. Now I'm 212 and I have lost a couple of inches with a change of diet and exercise already. With the loss of both parents over the course of the past 6-7 I have gained about 50-60lbs. Not really paying attention and taking care of myself I have basically let myself go. I am diabetic (no medication needed), fluctuating levels of high cholesterol a…

Sleeve done Fri May 11th, 2012 by Dr. Mark Dominguez in Louisiana. So far all is well and much better than I anticipated, so I could not be more pleased. I was 240 at time of surgery and have 100 pounds to lose to get to goal. Last Summer I weighed about 275 and felt horrible. Through doctor visits and tests learned I am insulin resistant and began my own lifestyle changes resulting in some weight loss. This along with high blood pressure, asthma and other health risks led me to the sleeve. I can see already, this was a wise choice. Reading through posts on this forum helped me to prepare. Hopefully my experiences, help someone else.

After starting on a bumpy ride, I'm excited about my appointment on Wednesday. I started with one surgeon and I had to pay a huge bill I had from 3 years ago before he would see me. I made payment arrangements but that would have put me into next year to get my surgery so I opted to see a different surgeon. I had to go to his seminar (similar to the other surgeon's but MUCH more informative)and I was glad I did because I think I like him better than the other surgeon! I had already started my 3 month mandatory supervised diet and I see my PCP on Friday. It's been kind of hard to stick to a diet this time and I don't know why...I've done it many, many, many times befo…

Hello! My name is Jennifer. I am 33 years old and fat! I was banded in Miami, FL when me and my husband were stationed there in Oct 10. My starting weight was 232 and I am at 221 now. I have the realize band and it's sitting at 8cc now so no more cam be added but I am still fat. I think I went into this surgery thinking it was a cure all and I didn't have to do anything...man was I wrong. I started out on the wrong foot and was eating solid food 3 days after surgery and now I just can't get my brain to reconfigure. I work out now 3 times a week doing Zumba but its not helping. The nutritionist that I paid for was no help at all. I never got like a meal plan so I know what…

Well... I am 3 weeks post op and doing ok. History: Had lap band in 08 and it was a mess! My allergies are severe and I would experience post nasal drip and the band would clog... then I would be sick... then my stomach would swell.. then I couldn't eat (or barely drink) for 2-3 days! I messed around with the fill for 3 years and decided I was done! The same doctor took out the band in March of 2012 and did the RNY in May 2012. I still struggle with my allergies, but I am finding that if I take a Claritin D before bed, I am LESS nauseous in the morning. Current condition: I have a bit of nausea. I am never hungry or thirsty so its a struggle to get in all the liquids…

Finally the wait came to an end of June 7th. I am now 3 days post op. Came home yesterday. For some idiotic reason I thought I would not have post op pain. Lol!! I'm an RN. I know better. The pain was immense for the first 2 days in the hospital. I'm not really sure the morphine worked but the toradol certainly was my best friend:) Now I'm having a hard time taking in all my protein. Any one else have these issues? Also my doc said cut my daily insin to 15 units. My sugar is hanging in the low 110's. I'm not comfortable taking the insulin. I'm across that I'll become hypoglycemic and be unable to respond because of the pain. Any one else have similar issues?

Hello group! I'm new to the group. My Dr. (on Friday) suggested the surgery to control my Type2 diabetes. I have been unable to control my BS level or get it down with meds and many failed attempts to lose weight for the past 5-6 years since being diagnosed. My close friend since childhood had the surgery and is doing GREAT. I was excited when when Dr. actually recommended it for me. I made the first appt for the initial seminar at Cedars Sinai, it's this Saturday. Naturally I have a lot of questions but I'll save most of them for during the seminar and to the group later on as I get more info on the process. Not sure what else I should mention at this point of the …

I was banded in March 2005 and had really great success. I lost about 40kg and was happy and living a life that I loved. In 2008 I had a slip. My surgeon and I tried to work with it and see if it was manageable but by January 2010 pretty much the only foods i could keep down were the chips and chocolate. I was unhappy all the time, would be vomiting with every meal and had heartburn like no ones business (turns out I had a hiatus hernia). So I decided to have the band removed. Since then I've put on all of the weight i lost and then some. I've never felt more low. I've been dealing with depression and bi polar disorder for years and years and this added weight ha…

Hi, I was "sleeved" in May 2009 and even though I still experience some pain if I eat too much, I am stil able to eat alot!!!! I wish that I could get my tummy tight again. I gained weight and I am really getting desperate.....again. Does anyone know if I can continue with the gastric by-pass procedure even though I have only about 50lbs to loose. If so, do you know if the surgery is any cheaper being the first phase, vertical sleeve, is already done? Thanks.

I don't know if it is the fact i have been on a liquid diet now for three weeks or if it just the heat. But i couldn't get down a shake today i even tried to make jello with protein and no luck i did get all my fluids in just not protein. I hope either the heat dies down or on Monday the Dr clears me to go to soft food.

Just wanted to say hello! My husband is scheduled to get his surgery 7-25-12. I'm excited since it will be a possitive thing for his and my life. But I do not see any forums on what I need to expect. Plenty of help for him, I was wondering if there was anything I need to know. How hard is it to find recepies? good sites? eatting on the go? Please help me get ready.
